Hey guys, I've come across a problem I've never had before. Recently I've had errors popping up of low memory and a lot of FC's of Facebook, messaging, browser, pretty much everything. I'll look for apps in the play store or browse games and can only scroll down about 2 inches before I hit the bottom. I've used various cleanup apps and still low on ram. Been running aokp jellybean build 5 for months without problems. Any suggestions?

what is actually running after you boot phone? settings, apps, running tab will show.
have you tried booting into recovery and wiping both dalvik and cache?
other suggestion would be to deny startup or else freeze various apps to see if that helps.

Perhaps a little update wouldn't hurt, there's AOKP JB milestone now. Little backup, clear/wipe and flash it.
But like laughingT mentioned, chances are that you have a app draining your RAM.
Well I updates to milestone 1 originally but when I did the lock screen theme never changed when I changed themes as well as other things (keyboards etc) so I went back to build 5.
After rebooting my phone and seeing what apps are running after starting up and its 3 Google maps, Google, voxer, gmail, OMC widget, Facebook, play music and stuff like that before I've even opened anything

Maps can be stopped (make sure GPS isn't on). I heard OMC Widget caused a lot of battery drain but might've been updated since then. And Voxer, you can stop it and only start it when you need it.
you could try System Tuner, available on google play.
the startups button, gives a list of all apps, system and user, has ability to selectively disable apps at startup.
I use it to prevent Google maps and many others from loading at boot. don't go overboard, say by disabling keyboard or settings, obviously.
I think OMC widget has been updated, but batt use may vary with which widget you select and how frequently you set it to update.
I'm using OMC with the clock weather batt bubble thingy widget, and from what I can see, it suspends updating when screen is off.

I own a nexus one, and after upgrading to gingerbread, some applications which are installed such as dolphin browser and soundhound are installed but are not listed as installed on the market and thus I don't get update notifications for them.
I tried to clear data on the market app to re sync the installed apps but it had been disabled on gingerbread
Can anyone shed some light please?
Thanks in advance,

Yes, I even re-installed the apps, still not showing in my apps though.

You might be able to use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor" function to re-establish the application links to the Market, though I believe that requires root.
Give it some times, they'll probably come back on it's own.
If not use Market Doctor like suggested, that might or might not solve it.
It has happened to me here and there and usually fix itself.
Another thing you can try is download an app, any app (something free that can be delete afterward) and see if that bring the missing apps back.
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone experience jerky performances.
I have about 10 pages of apps installed mostly games and stock apps.
When I use advance app killer, usually i see stock apps eg. facebook, browser, ebook, etc.. When I kill them all, performance doesn't improve much.
If the 10 pages are the reason, any way to know which is running in background and sucking up resources?
The performance of your Gtab is jerky coz of the apps that run in the background even if you close them they restart.. u cn use startup auditor app to increase performance... if all fails hard reset nd install only required Apps not the apps u don't use but run behind nd eat up RAM nd battery

I was in a similar situation until I last had to factory reset my Tab due to the whole issue with Google Apps Google Accounts not having access to Google Checkout on the Android Market.
Installed over 100 apps on my first day with the Tab (over-excited, I know ), and realized that my Tab started to lag when opening the app drawer. The problem became most apparent when I shut down or rebooted the Tab; it would literally take minutes to boot up, and often it would freeze and force close my launcher several times in a row.
I chalked it down to having too many apps, but later read that many apps start themselves up on boot even if they had no reason to (e.g. Amazon, Aldiko, etc.)
I've since only installed apps that I would really use throughout the day, but would you guys say that so long these apps do not run on startup (say I disable them using the Autostarts app), I can install a hundred or even two hundred apps without the boot up lag?
So there's no way to see which app is running in background and % memory used, similar to windows task manager?
When I use Advanced task killer, are those 'apps shown' considered as background apps or are background apps invisible?
From my RAM manager, I see like 180+ to 200mb out of 400+mb. I think that's the remaining RAM ?
Anyone knows the stock RAM out of the box?
It might be because carriers pre load crap on them

Installed the free startup app and found the culprits ... GAMELOFT games. They are huge in size and think they eat up the memory in background/at startup.
After disabling, all back to normal.

Why on earth would you want to detect it by trial and error when there is plenty of apps you can use to find it specifically?

After own my device for a couple weeks, numerous stock apps have started opening themselves. The main offenders are social networking, media share, maps, google search, Google+ huddle, mobile hotspots, email and gmail, along with a couple downloaded apps. This never used to happen. I did notice it was around the same time as I got the Facebook update, which also never closes now. Anyone know how to prevent this. I don't use most of these apps and don't need them using up my ram

factory reset, or root and install minfree and tweak it to your liking
auto mem manager doesnt work for crap
This is my first android and I've got some hesitation on rooting since I have the Canadian xt860 and the all the efforts of root and more importantly recovery, should I brick my device, are based on the Droid 3, or xt862

Open the Task Manager App and go to the Auto-End List tab. you can add apps that you want to be killed automatically after the screen is off for 2 minutes. It works well for social networking because i think different apps that you use opens it in the background and it never closes, and its constantly gathering your GPS info.
Also Juice Defender is good to turn off your data connection while the screen is off so apps running data like that will only be able to sync when you want. And not randomly turn on/continue running while your phone is in your pocket.
Not all the apps can be set on the auto end list, social networking and mobile hotspot for example. Although I think the biggest question I have is why is this happening?

my mistake i have social location on the auto end list not social networking i got them mixed up. a lot of apps are launched in the background by other apps or launched at startup. My understanding is it is the way that Android helps it open faster the next time you need to.
Ya except I don't use them ever so I don't care if they open faster. I know rooting would solve my problem but until there's a little more support for the xt860 I'm not willing to risk bricking my device. I just thought it was odd it all of a sudden started. Someone had said do a factory reset. What does a factory reset wipe. Would I lose all my paid apps?

I've been using DROIDs since DROID 1, then X, and now Bionic.
I have the issue on my Bionic: I'll get a notification that an App has an update. When I select the app from my notification pane, it opens Android Market and takes me to the My Apps view. However, no apps display as needing updates. (Yes, I'm sure it's a notification to update an app and not the notification that an app has been updated (auto updates)).
I can go through all my downloaded apps and none of them show as "updateable." Sometimes it displays, that there are more than one (like 3) apps that have an update, but again, when I go to My Apps, I can't find any app that has an update - there is no update button only Open and Uninstall.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this issue?
Have you changed the LCD density at all? That gives me various problems. I always have to grab an older version of the market place to update.

I know what you're talking about. I've found when that happens, it's usually tied to a system app or a preinstalled app, such as Gmail, YouTube, or Zumocast.
Annoying.

I concur, I had the issue as well and updating the pre-installed crapware seemed to remedy the issue.
This has been happening to me as well, and it's not always system apps. Yesterday I had the notification in the morning, with no app showing up to be updated. However, I checked the market later last night, and Swiftkey X was showing up. (I had read that Swiftkey had an update earlier in the day, as I recalled when I saw that.)
It could be that the apps are sending notifications before they hit the market, or it could be that the market app has issues. I think it's the latter. I generally used to check the market for updates when I plug in the phone when going to bed at night, and I may start doing that again.
I hate the new market - since the last few updates (when it got its current new look, with books and movies) the market has been pretty crappy.
Same thing here. I get the notification, but there are no apps showing as having update available. If I go through the apps one by one I can usually find some with updates. I also have apps mysteriously disappear from time to time. I went to open Gentle Alarm last night and it wasnt there anymore, I re-downloaded it and it installed and all my settings were still there. Strange.
For some reason, it keeps changing from your default account to a secondary account. I have two Google accounts on my phone; one for personal and one for work. If you go into Market and then hit menu, accounts-you will notice it changed your default account. I haven't figured out why it does this-my OG never did.
Could it, in part, be due to applications that were set to auto-update?

DeskClock from source code (shows up as "clock" in app drawer. a sort of lockscreen, put icon on the homescreen, press it, DeskClock comes up and you can turn off screen with power button and when come back DeskClock is your lockscreen. It is actualy supposed to be a "DESK CLOCK" for when you are at a... uh desk and want easy access to music and a clock. Gallery Slideshow option does not work with newest gallery, it does work with one from source but, you can not view 3D pictures with source Gallery. Trying to fix)

I suggest using Titanium Backup to make a full backup of all system apps/data BEFORE you install this rom. If there is something missing you want back or want to replace one of the switched out apks, you can use Titanium to do it
*************************************************************
On fresh install settings will FC on first boot. Just ignore it, it happens because of some of the things I took out. Will be trying to fix this. Settings will work just fine and FC only happens on first boot.
Install:
1) Download the zip from link below.
2)Put the zip on your external SD card.
3) Boot into CWM with Vol Down+3D Camera+Power.
4) BACK UP YOUR CURRENT ROM!!!!!!
5) Perform Factory Wipe
6) Install zip from SD
7) Reboot and enjoy!

How is the GPS on this rom?

For me it works great, can't complain... location based finds me within 20-30 meters and GPS locks on pretty quick to be on safe side I would say within a minute. You will have to install maps from a backup or from market it has been removed.

None that I can think of right now. It is stable and definitely ready for everyday use. You shouldn't have any problems. If you do post them here.
Sweet! Will be downloading and flashing as soon as I can get to work tomorrow and download it! Keep up the good work!

I would like to think it is faster than Thriller... It probably is because it is quite slimmed down there has been a lot taken off of it. The rom is actually based off of Thriller 1.0.3, I haven't had any restarts or problems and I haven't had anyone reporting any problems so I do believe it is pretty stable.
The best thing to do is to download it, go into CWM make a nandroid backup with the "backup and restore" option, then flash this rom and see how you like it. If you don't like, or you have problems just go back into CWM and restore your old setup. It will bring back all your data, sms, contacts, apps everything all of it.
I fixed a problem with the search capactive button and the search on home screen menu not working correctly.
You can either download and flash new rom, no need to do a data wipe.
You can also restore "Google Search" in your backup app (Titanium Backup) it must be a system app for the button to work. I thought it would work as long as it was installed but this isn't the case, it has to be installed with the system or into system/apps

BATTERY UPDATE: Been running this for a bit and I was absolutely shocked when I woke up.
The shot in OP with the widgets and icons is my homescreen. Turned wifi off and had music player open and paused, data network off as well. When I went to sleep, battery was at 30%, when I wake up... still at 30%. Here is a shot, notice android system is only 29% even right now it has only gone up to 30% usage as I type this. Starting to make me wonder if it isnt showing right.... which I am sure it is... just cant believe that after 8 hours it hasnt budged. Also, when I unplugged the phone, it wasnt even charged to 100%. Will give an update on what time it finally dies on me.
Do you have any Gameloft games? If so, was there any issue getting them to run okay on this ROM?
