[Q] Upgrading to CM7

Hello,
Was wondering if I need to do anything extra before flashing CM7 nightly through CWM. My Thrill is on Baseband Version L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00 and the Kernel is 2.6.35.7. Software Version V10E-AUG-10-2011. Can I just backup, factory reset, and flash, or do I need to flash anything else first?
Thanks for any help.

He/She's on a Froyo baseband.
If you are on a Froyo baseband, use the P925 version of CyanogenMod 7.
If you are on a Gingerbread baseband, use the P920 version of CyanogenMod 7.
I ended up going with Thriller instead because I wanted to keep the 3D framework. I'm undecided if I want to update to the official Gingerbread or not. Would it be a performance/battery life improvement over Thriller? If so, can I just run LG Updater straight from Thriller, or do I have to return to stock first?
If you are on v20p try this cm7.2 rom http://goo.gl/9D0Sy

upgrading baseband

Hi,
was just about to upgrade the baseband on my 2x, but for some reason it's not working.
My old baseband was 725 and wanted to try BASEBAND 1120 - P990 ( SU660 Porting )
I downloaded SmartFlashTool_P990.exe + drivers and installed the 4 files in order from biggest to smallest.
When the LG logo started to flash (after each SW FLASH install), i removed and reattached to cable+"volume down" to install next file.
R375_SIC.fls
AENEAS_FW.fls
slb.fls
psi.fls
When I was done with the baseband flash, I installed lasted RC of [CM9][ROM][MAR07] Nova HD Plus.
Checked "about phone" and it still say I got baseband version 725
what went wrong?

If you read the first post carefully, you will find that the author describes that he has compiled with his old archive....but that has to be 823 normally. Anyway, if your communications and other radio related stuff is working alright....why think about the information in the BB column.
thanks, didn't notice that.
Still don't know why I was not able to upgrade to 823

This is not true, I think. It just states this for the update script in clockworkmod. The about phone should state something like 20111120
?
What does baseband do?
by changing your baseband you can possibly get better signal, better incall voice sound, but if you don;t suffer from any of those problems than don;t change it
bb
IF your BB and RIL mach, then you might get better batterylife.
Check your stock BB and ril. it must work best

And to match you RIL, there's a great app called GetRil .
Baseband and ROMs
Hi,
I have 725 baseband. Can I flash CM ROM or MIUI ROM?
Should I have a specific baseband before I flash a different ROM?

725 seems to be the best for cm 9 (at least for me ) , so i would keep it

No you don't, in some case the author of ROM specify the better BB, also you can use Get Ril to match ril and bb, this is usefull for battery life and best signal too

Latest baseband version/question

Does it really matter what baseband version we have?
As I'm looking to update my phone as haven't done it in a while and I think it needs doing.
I currently have: S5830XXKPP , is this the latest/best baseband out atm?
Im obviously going to be putting custom firmware over this...
Does anyone know where I can find the latest/best baseband or what the newest is?
Ive tried samfirmware but since the site has been updated I cannot find anything for the Ace.
Much help would be appreciated, thanks.
In samfirmware you can find kt3 that is the last stock .. im using kt7 from germany and it is very stable.. no lags
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

Baseband should make a difference on stock and most stock based roms (depends on how custom the kernel files are). No difference on cm7 (that i know of).

Hi,
I've got massive battery drain when mobile data is enabled with RIL (0218 - 10b) that comes with 7.2
Baseband is from v20q stock rom, and ril from 20q is not working.
Any recomended BB/RIL combination with this near (voodoo sound patch in kernel please) perfect ROM?
thanx,

thanx for nice intentions, but I've read that post months ago, and obviously didn't find the solution for this cm 7.2 ROM that refuses to work with RIL from 20q... because on stock 20q with BB and RIL from that same stock ROM no massive drains.
EDIT: OK I'll try froyo baseband and ril and hope for even better stability/performance than stock GB bb/ril combination..

"Months ago"? I doubt that as I created the thread 5 weeks ago
But I see you already found the answer, yes you need a Froyo RIL for the v20 GB Basebands for CM ROMs.

Baseband please?!

I saw that thread with porting su660 basebands to p990....but the links are not working. It says that the file was removed or is invalid. Where can I get one of those basebands? I have CM10 wich baseband I should flash? (and please send me links wich can I flash with CMW) Thank You!

and it will wipe all my data?
P.S. I've flashed many rom kernels mods etc.....I know some things but this is the first time I flash baseband because I didn't had problems with this......I read some things about baseband and ril but I didn't understood too much just that the baseband is a bit responsable about battery life and voice quality or for the voice quality is responsible the ril?
