Hi guys. My SGN is permanently freezing while booting. Suddenly the red lines appear and phone is stucked. It stucks on boot logo, or boot animation, or after successfull boot into system. It looks like this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61718936/IMAG0003.jpg
Phone becomes quite hot on the back near camera.
I bought phone with stock 2.3.6. It was running for about 2 hours and i made OTA update to 4.0.4. It started to reboot itself while i was using it. So thought, i might use custom ROM to get rid of this freezes and reboots. But no change. Even on 4.2.1. I reverted back to 2.3.6. I noticed, that these red lines changes and moves (or even whole screen becomes red) while i'm twisting or pressing phone on various places. So i think, there is cold solder joint somewhere on motherboard. Maybe on graphic chip, because i didn't notice this problem while in recovery or download mode.
Can anybody help me with this problem, or point me on right place to look at on motherboard? Thanks in advance.
Seems to be defective device. Check with service center.

If you're able to, run this app to check for errors, I take it you have root. If it crashes mid scan, you've got problems with your emmc.

Frozen Note
I hope you will find a solution for your problem.
But I have to admit I had to smile ("grinsen" in German is a much better word for it) when I saw your title:
Freezing even when >30°C
i'm not able to run device anymore but i already tried this app for checking emmc and this is the one with that bug. But it doesn't matter, because i was flashing only safe kernels, and i don't think this emmc is problem. I think the culprit is graphic chip, or CPU, or CfRF (Chip for Random Freezes)
I was not able to find any similar problem. Tomorrow, i will try to put device into download mode, flash any custom safe kernel with CWM, leave device in this recovery, and see if it freezes again. If yes, the only option is to get device warmer for a few degrees (300-350°C with my heat station haha ) and i will see if there was any cold solder joint. If not, device will be dead anyway so i have nothing to lose

guys i've made a small progress. I put a pressure on back side of the phone near camera, and i turned the phone on. It successfully booted to system. When i stopped pushing phones back, red lines appeared immediately and phone freezed. When i start to twist phone in hands, lines were getting bigger or smaller. When i pressed the back cover again, lines disappear (but phone was still frozen).
So now my task is, to find out, which chip is badly soldered.

You guys started having strange issues with ur notes. Maybe its something like a self destruct programmed on your phones so that after a year or two people will switch their phones. Besides the bigger the phones are getting the more issues they are having.
A phone should be like a device that shouod work flawless, in case of emergency one is needing to make a call and found that the phone freezed.
Sometimes i blame everything to android. Despite years of open development. Its yet not stabilizing, i guess because of it being open source vendors are putting crap in it making it more vulnerable to issues.
I dont rely on android rather i use a cheap phone for calls and text or iphone. Its just good for internet, ebooks, movies, music and camera.

Try pulling out the battery and then let the phone dry like a pair of wet socks. Clean the contacts and fit any loose thing that there may be.
Check your cable, if is loose or not, this way you could find if there were any unwanted sparks applied on the device.
Notice how it gets hot when is plugged in and you're using it? the battery reaches quickly 55 degrees which is not optimum, wait to cool to below this temperature.
My condolences in this sad event. Take care.

Well a little while now my phone been reacting on it's own. Keep going haywire as if some sort of bug/virus infected the phone.
Also i notice sometimes when i connect the USB it chimes like a bird for several minutes.
I been looking up to see if anyone has the same issues and seen that some call it ghost screen and only way to get rid of it is hard mod or replacement.
But i only seem to get this issue the day i install a process manager which had 3 processes which i notice that sort of vanished from the menu. So i'm not sure if this has cause the issue with the phone.
So i went ahead and installed GoT and CyanogenMod which boot up nicely btw.
But still i get the USB Chimes going crazy once in a while and half the screen is is no responsive . I can't even unlock the phone using touch screen. Cause the sec i swipe to almost the middle of the screen it stops. But at least the random ghost touch thing is gone i think.
Anyone know my issues? Before installing i did wipe/reset/everything.
Could it be my firmware is corrupted? But doesn't that get refreshed when i install the got/mod?
I wish to get my phone re-installed to a fresh status like go back to a fresh copy of 2.1 to see is that works how do i do this?
That was how my phone acted before I lost functionality of part of my touchscreen.
To go back to stock, flash a stock sbf using rsdlite. Sbf's can be found here. Use the non service versions.

Exactly my problem. Is it the left side right up to the top? I cannot use the back button nor any icons on that column.
It is a hardware problem.

I had my touch screen going crazy. Couldn't use my phone at all no matter what rom. Flashing it back to stock didn't work either. I put it in the oven as per other thread and it's been working over a month now.

Dunno if this is relevant, but had same issue when i was using cheap but extra small chinese charger
It is relevant, because if I use wall sockets without grounding (@countryside, par example) it goes nuts while charging. Same sh*t happens when connected to USB, no matter if the PC/laptop is plugged in a grounded wall socket.
I'm going through the same problem. There is like a line in the screen where nothing works, it's around the 5th home screen page (I can't select it). Since I have this phone for almost two months, I'll try checking with authorized support.
Hey guys,
I could need a bit of help! It's now the third time I'm having this problem, don't ask me why. I've got the feeling that I read the whole forum here, but didn't find anything similiar.
The 1st time I didn't change anything (ok, rooted it, but nothing else)
The 2nd time I overclocked it slightly (~850-900 MHz)
Now I'm using MIUI.
But back to the problem:
I'm unable to use the keyboard, every time I'm sliding open the keyboard (even when it's turned off), it "crashes". The screen stops working or it freezes, the only way to turn it off is taking out the battery.
However, the bigger problem comes now: I'm barely able to restart it. It tries booting, but is restarting all the time or the screen is just turning on (in some angles you see that it is turned on but it's black). After many retries, it starts working, sometimes the bootloop is running 15min or i have to manually restart it 10 times or more. The strange thing is that the keyboard works fine, nevertheless I have to choose between using it opened (taking it with me becomes difficult ) or closed...
...the main problem now is flashing a new Rom, I'm currently trying it through the android sdk and adb, but using the power-button + x is easier
I don't think that I can solve the problem, I sent the device two times back (warranty till may 2012), but maybe someone here knows a bit more. My guess is that one of the sensors is broken, or some parts of the display that should manage the sliding process...
Anyway, thanks for your attention!

Hi
I am new to Android world. So please handle with care
I used to use an iPhone. Recently (bout 3 weeks ago) I bought a galaxy note and am loving it.
I was going through a lot about Android system and found out 'rooting a phone'.
so I rooted the note and installed Rocket rom v22, GoLauncher Ex and few apps like Setcpu, Adfree, Bank, Xchange etc. I don't have games or many apps on my phone.
My phone turns itself off randomly every now and then. during phone conversation it rebooted itself once so far. and when my phone is stand-by, I found my phone is turned off.
I am not sure why it's happening. Is there any settings i shouldn't set?? or ???
Could anyone please tell me how to fix this issue?
If the phone is faulty, I need to make my phone as the same as when I first got which I am not sure how to :-( yet
The first thing to do is go completely stock. Flash the lastest stock rom and see if that fixes the problem.
When using ICS ROMs there's a known bug called Sleep of Death (SOD) that is similar to what you're experiencing. The phone simply won't turn on the screen and you have to press the power button for several seconds to turn it on again.
Almost all GNote users experience this issue so don't worry about it. Going back to stock will not solve the problem.
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Before the rom v22, I had v19. my phone still did turn itself off several times. after flash the room v22, it didn't happen as many as v19 so I am not sure that the ICS causes the issue.
anyway, I will try the one you suggested and see how I go.
Thank you

I am more worried about the alarm. if the phone turns itself off while i am in sleep, i won't be able to hear the alarm going off.
well if that happens again, i might have to get a alarm clock.
i was thinking of setcpu app might cause the issue... not sure though.
Thanks for your help
I experience the same issue when i was running stock. I've tried several stock versions but the problem still exists.

I have definitely never ever experience SOD when the phone is stock and lock.
The only time i did experience SOD is when i change to modded kernel.
I'm running stock with cf root and have never ever experienced this, so not all notes are affected. That would really suck!

Never had Sleep of Death on stock rom.
I am on stock ICS Rom n it has happenedwith me twice.
My GNote goes dead randomly and only starts up after pulling out battery.
Weird!
Install an ICS from Clean
Start from a Stock ICS rom using PC Odin, then follow my Post as follow :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26772618&postcount=12
Try another rom other than that you had, or a higher versionof it.
The MIDTEAM v1.4.2 is Good and Stable.
Good Luck
I had this problem most of ICS ROMs on my Galaxy Note. SO I guess it's an ICS related bug and it is very uncomfortable to have to reset it to unlock it .
I too have tried several Stock ROMs but it still gets into the Sleep of Death at least once a day.
I guess that it should help to have a Kernel that changes the Deep Sleep settings...
Of my 2 GNotes, one of them had this problem. Happens when you put the note on the table with small drop or whatsoever.
The problem disappeared when inserted 3-fold 80g paper between battery and the edge of battery compartment. The battery tolerance is not so tight so when small drop (like putting on the windowsill) happens, the phone shut down.
The problem completely disappeared after inserting paper.
Of course, more professional would be go to Samsung repairs and show it and ask for replacement - either battery or phone internal casing. You can reproduce the problem by turning the screen on and dropping phone 10cm into hard surface.
But I did not bother.
I won't say that yours has exactly the same problem. But check the tolerances of battery 1st. Sometimes solutions are too obvious to see 'em.
I upgraded from stock to CM9 3 days ago and my Note has turned off several times a day since then. Never before upgrade, so I don't think it has to do with battery being loose in its compartment - not in my case.
I am loving ICS, but I will have to downgrade to gingerbread to get rid of this irritating bug.
this is happening to my galaxy nexus!!! yeah it turns off at random like sleep of death and small drops can trigger it. if i knew this could happen i would have never rooted
lol root itself has nothing to do with it.
if small drops cause it, and paper adding in compartment fixes it. its the gap between battery and whatever should fixate it.
if it occurs during deep sleep, dig into logs what you can find there. Also check roms/kernels feedback if others have it with that version. Many ways to illiminate possibilities.
I miss some good analyzes in this is issue from those experiencing stuff. Android I guess is not user friendly that way.

Galaxy Note Sleep of Death on 4.1.2 JB
I'm still trying to figure this out... I had hoped that with Samsung Stock upgrade to 4.1.2 it would be fixed but its not... anybody still experiencing this problem?
Things that I have tried
Move all apps from Internal SD Card (USB) and format
Factory Reset
Paper wedge between battery
Opened and re-connected all connectors to Motherboard
Install CPUSpy (deep sleep is OK)
I'm at wits end now, and this problem is very apparent. I havn't wanted to flash to a custom rom, because I've seen reported that it still happens with whatever ROM whether stock or custom
Any more ideas on how to make the Sleep of Death go away?

I don't know if it is exactly the same problem, but my GNote keeps turning off every time, but not seem to be randomly. Looks like ti shut down every time a high performance is required. I tested several roms, ICS and JB, custom and stock, but the problem still goes on.
Please, any ideas?
Hey everyone, after going through a number of posts here on XDA

and another useful site like
http://www.fixya.com/support/t11929716-samsung_galaxy_tab_gt_p1000_charging
I haven't found what I am looking for yet. I kinda have the same problem like these guys on the posts above. I got my phone water damaged a while back and since then my phone whenever on charge gives me a message like "charging paused. Battery temperature too high or too low". I have been trying to fix this problem for a while but I can't seem to find any reasonable solution. Like I understand that this could be a hardware problem and I can't do much about it if it is but I still have to try different options before I pay Samsung to fix it.
Like what I am trying to achieve is that I would like to somehow root the tab and upgrade it using just the recovery system mode. I somehow believe that if I do that this problem will miraculously vanish :victory:. The galaxy tab that I own is this one here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0042D75TU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00. I never rooted the tab before this problem and I am sure I never upgraded it either. So all I am left with now is a tab that turns on only for few seconds and then switches off. Even when it is on the charge the tab switches off after giving me the message "charging paused. blah blah blah". The only time it stays on forever is when the phone is on the charge (AC and not usb PC) and on Android System Recovery <3e>.
There is no possible way of starting the tab and using the android system as the message pops up just before the loading up and switches the phone off immediately. If someone can guide on how to root and upgrade my tab through using my sd card or doing it in recovery mode, then I promise to buy a couple of pints (money will be sent via paypal) or else the money goes to Samsung and ruins the whole joy of fixing my tab with yourr help. Cheers
Can someone please help me with this issue? Cheers

It is water damaged.
What makes you think you can flash a recovery that fix it automagically?
It is too risky to flash anything to a device that can't hold charges.
Anything you flash to it, if it half way done, and the tab lose charges, then it is gone, especially if it were the boot loader that was being flashed.
I went through the trouble of reading the links you posted.
If you think the I9000 user that gets the warning got it fixed, that is because he overclock/undervolt, etc..
Not water damaged.
For the other link that is water damaged, he said it recovers.
How long has it been since it was wet?
If not dried, you should buy a pack of rice (grains, uncooked of course).
Put it in a big zip lock bag, and place the tab in it as well.
Let it be in there for a few days.
Or if your local chemist sell silica gel, use that instead of rice.
Thanks for the advice mate but the tab has been like this for over 3 months. I mean I was hoping to flash a new Rom as it might not have this message set on default. I don't think the water is the issue anymore it might just be a hardware issue but I want to flash a new custom Rom just so that I can verify that it is 100% hardware problem if this message continues to display on the new Rom.
It is simply not safe to flash while the tab can't hold any charges.
But if you want to risk it, follow my signature.

Hi every one this is my first post and was wondering if anyone has had this problem come up.
My wife has the I9000 and a couple months ago it started to show this problem of everytime the phone is in standby the screen keeps coming on or about a second or to then goes off for about a second the then on and it will keep doing this till it runs the battery down.
I have tried to do a complete ROM install fresh and factory resets and custom roms and the phone still keeps doing it. is there anything i can do or is the phone beyond fixing unless i take it apart??
Thanks
Andy
Hi,
This sometimes happens to me also. Reflashing does not seem to help.
The one thing that seemed to do any difference was to turn off the device, remove battery, sim card and SD card. Then plug them all back in and start the phone.
This sometimes worked or at least minimized the number of problems, but not a permanent solution.
Although your problem could be something completelly diferent.
No arm in trying this suggestion
Hi thanks for the reply.
I havd tried that. Atp the moment it has no sc card or sim card as she got a galaxy mini to use for moment and it still dose the same thing.
It is quite anoying as ya have to have it plugged into charge all time as batt drains really quickly.

One possibility is a hardware problem. Maybe one of your phone's buttons (home, power, or volume) is grounded and keep on contacting.
Another possibility is a program that is running automatically. If you're on ICS or JB, you can check your running apps in Settings/Apps/Running and see if there is a running app that can be stopped without affecting the system...
Just a suggestion.
is there a known solution for the "screen-turning-on-problem"?
friend of me has the same problem with non-rooted galaxy s+
The phone is on stock gb fresh install.
Might have to try and open it and see if anything wrong.
