Hello,
My friend rooted his phone using superoneclick app( android version 2.2).
Then installed clockwork recovery mod successfully using Odin.. now he tried to backup stock rom but couldn't.. showed error cannot mount.. without any backup,he tried to flash a custom Rom... now it is stuck at Samsung logo...
Plz plz help!!!!

Tell him to read tutorials. You must be on GB before flashing CWM. Now flash stock GB using Odin, then flash CWM.

One more thing worth noting, you can't backup stock rom with cwm...
Now what to do?? How to solve??
Sent from my LG-P350 using xda app-developers app
flash stock gingerbread with odin, then flash CWM 5 with odin, then flash custom rom with CWM... no need to root first, as all custom roms come pre-rooted refer to yagyagaire.blogspot.com for details, when i first installed custom rom this blog helped me most

Samsung logo means you forgot to wipe before install. Actually if you can reach Samsung logo then your phone isn't bricked.

Have you installed CWM recovery? Sometimes users makes mitstake that they flash with stock recovery
You can start reading some guides into forum....
And if you forgot wipr cache and data can make this happen...
or the rom u havr downloaded can be broken... I recomend u download the rom again and repear the "installation" and if this doesn't work choose another rom

i downloaded new rom by newexperience
then i went to android recovery
wipe cache the wipe
wipe data/factory reset
then i did apply update from sd card
but then it goes till that home page of that rom and stops there ike 1 hr
See don't ever do a factory reset before installing a new rom... When you install a new rom it automatically formats it... Now, what do you mean by home page... Does your phone starts?? Or are you stuck in boot logo

If you install a custom rom via stock recovery, it will NEVER boot. You need odin 4.38 and ONLY this version, CWM file, USB drivers and a tutorial which is easy to find. Once you have CWM, you can install the new experience.

AW: [Q] Rom manager CWM recovery "golden"
I got it done manually (using dd, as root in a local console on my sgS3 mini I8190N), like its described in the develepoment threat (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2114182), but with the official CWM image for the s3 mini. so you dont even need the rom manager.
I already thanked his post and forgot to reply. The flash was successful although now I need my default recovery to install the latest firmware by faria lol.

Can I flash twrp recovery using odin without root?

Which android version are you on? For JB,there is only in CoCore-E kernel and you can flash by using Universal Kernel Flasher or via CWM.

I've heard it's not compatible in jelly bean. I'm currently on gingerbread, but if I flash Jelly bean, is there a risk of bricking or will the recovery be as it is??

Who said that TWRP is not compatible with Jellybean? And no there is no risk of bricking your phone if you flash or update to Jellybean (but don't flash the Chinese firmware - I've heard that some people bricked their phone by doing that)... Just be sure that the firmware you will be flashing is the "right" one... I suppose that you are running the Indian Gingerbread firmware - so you can officially update to DULP8 (but backup all you data, apps, etc . first)... And yes, root it and install CoCore E 6.2 or 6.8 kernel - it has TWRP 2.5 with it...

Ok but it is written that cocore kernel 6.8-or-something version is only compatible with jb. And I meant that flasing twrp when on jb is not supported. It was written on the thread. And by the way I am on JPLK2 firmware so is it safe to flash that kernel over twrp?.. I'm relatively newb to kernels but not custom roms, so it may seem like a noob question... my apologies

No. Galaxperia is jb stock based rom. You need to be on jellybean first to flash that. Once you're on jb, you can flash with either twrp/cwm. If you flash that while you're on gb, you're gonna stuck at bootscreen.

You need to stop worrying about "bricking your phone"... as long as you know what you are doing, nothing bad should happen to your phone... and Yes you will lose TWRP... but after updating to JB you can easily root it and install CoCore E kernel with TWRP.....

Custom recovery (TWRP in your case) is on the same partition as kernel is. By flashing stock firmware kernel partition is getting wiped and new kernel with stock recovery will be instaled. First try to understand what is happening when you do something, and you will not have anything to worry about.
Againg what is already said - you can't install JB custom ROM on GB, and you can't install GB custom ROM on JB. Flashing firmware with Odin will not brick your phone, but only if you use firmware for your phone. If you have I9070P, I9070 firmware will brick it. And otherwise, if you have I9070, I9070P will brick it. Hard brick.
If you want TWRP you have to install kernel with TWRP embended in side of it. Rooting will not harm your phone, it just insert SU file that enable having root permissions.

All right. I was doubtful because in my Micromax canvas 2, all I needed to do was to wipe /system,/data,cache partition and dalvik cache and I could flash just about any custom rom, so I was a little confused on this one. Thanks

For galaxperia you have to update to jelly bean
I want to flash one of the Maclaw's Custom Roms.
I saw there were download links for Odin. So I thought I don't need Clockworkmod Recovery.
Does it mean I don't need to flash Rooted Stock Firmware before flashing CM with Odin?
You don't need a rooted device for flash CM because CM is after flash already rooted

I have a Galaxy S with 10.1.3
But when I try updating to 10.2.1 it seems to fail
And I can't flash it with CWM. as thats when I get the error 7
Do I need to update CWM? or shall I just try another ROM like MIUI?
You can try to flash Stock 2.3.6 XWJVZ by Odin, root it by CF-Root or Semaphore kernel and then install clean CM10.2 by CWM. I think it should work.

For those following this thread
I restored the device to 2.2 Fro-Yo then I flashed it to Gingerbread before installing
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS which rooted and installed the latest CWM recovery
Then installed C-Rom KK 6.6
Device running fine
