[Q] Are you happy with your phone? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

I am about to order a new phone in next couple days and still thinking between Xperia and GS3. I know there is new generation of both coming soon, but I would upgrade anyway at the end of the year.
1. How is performance?
2. Signal quality?
3. Build quality?
4. Rom development?
Thanks for all your input!

All of the above are true but if you want to get custom roms make sure that the bootloader can be unlocked!
My only complaint about my phone is that I can't

1) Great.
2) Very good for phone, average for wifi.
3) Great.
4) Good, hope it gets even better.

Carrier-branded phones usually cannot be unlocked officially thru Sony's dev site. Get it from retail store and it's unlockable easily.
Tapatalked from my TX

1. How is performance?
Using wifi connection at home I do not find using the phone slow compared to a i5 desktop, so I would say great.
2. Signal quality?
Similar to my work BB Bold
3. Build quality?
Good, but I have not pressed the (power) button(s) lots as the phone is new, so usage is still low
4. Rom development?
I have nothing to compare it to, but the chaps here are all knowledgagable and Greg maintains a useful thread with links to many ROMs
I could get the s3 £100 over 2 years and maybe I would go for that (got this phone last week, and the s3 offer came on the w/e). But now I am happy putting that money towards the next upgrade.
Also this phone is a bit smaller, which is good.

Thanks to all, seems owners are quite happy with it which matters the most. I have seen some unfavorable reviews on the net, so that was a biggest issue for me. The only thing about this phone might be that the development seems a bit slow. I am used to switching between stock/cm/miui roms and first and last are not updated that often (we are still waiting for Sony's JB and MIUI is outdated at this stage), and generally the development thread seems not to be very active.

I switched from s3 to TX a few days ago. Sony's interface is fantastic and is 100x better than Samsung's touchwiz.
A minimal amount of bloatware and is very close to vanilla android IMO, anyone agree with me?
Development of cm in s3 with exynos are suffering many issues due to Samsung not providing sources to developers.
I don't like the jump from ics to jelly bean in s3, it seems like Samsung can't implement buttery smooth ui and just kept adding bloatware. Even galaxy nexus ui is faster than s3. Although multi window is nice.
Build quality is definitely better on Sony and TX feels like a premium while s3 got too much plastic.

Yeah, also the exynos exploit which a simple apk can root which was discovered by xda poster. Basically, there's no support for exynos devices but US s3 is fine since it uses Qualcomm chip.
Slow update by Sony is worth it I'm sure. Not some fast update by Samsung and HTC but crippled os and can't implement jelly bean properly IMO. Ics is fine also in Xperia and satisfied with it much faster than touchwiz lol
You should properly get a T if you want more development but for sure TX will get cm10 also.

Razr i development future

Hi, i have a Motorola defy and i want to buy a razr i, But first i want to know if this device Will have cyanogenmod and active development.
And besides i want to know if it Will be a good purchase.
Thanks in advance and greetings from argentina
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
In my view, it will be certainly a good purchase, but the chance of the device receiving a 'non-stock-based' ROM like CyanogenMod, as things are now, is very low. The sources released by Motorola are broken.
Things may well change in a very near future, but that is my hope and nothing more concrete than that (again, considering things as they are now).
BTW, I must say I am having the 'smoothest' and 'closest-to-pure-android' experience in a stock ROM ever. I'm really happy with it.

Thanks for the quick answer But i have another doubt. What about the performance vs galaxy s3 for example, i was reading that the razr is faster than the s3 when you open an app. Is that True? Also understood that the camera isnt very good, what about that?
Thanks again

In raw performance, the S3 will surely beat the RAZR i. But it seems legit that the perceptive performance, mainly general usage of apps and system features, is on par with the S3. I haven't had a S3 in my hands to really attest it, though.
The camera produces lots of noise on dark photos. LOTS of noise. But overall it is fine, if you don't expect your phone to replace a dedicated camera for the most demanding situations.
AW: Razr i development future
Its fast at opening apps fast st browsing loading pages and JScript overall the best with the iPhone.
It doesn't bench bad, at CPU and memory its very fast while the GPU performance is bad, good enough for all games with some reduced details though.
If you want a fast phone with good battery life and compact size its RAZR I or iPhone 5.
If u can live or even want it big go s3, nexus4 they are good phones, the one x plus is good too but its expensive.

Stop doing this, then maybe at some point somebody will develop sth

All I know is that they did release new sources, but haven't seen anyone built it successfully yet nor use it to build a device tree for a custom ROM.
If you know something else, please share with us.

The problem was that at the very beginning the source packages / one of the source packages was corrupted, which means that it was not extractable. This was fixed in November or December according to the razr i sourceforge page. Now you can download and extract all files. The fact that nobody was able to compile it does not mean that they gave us bad sources!!! Its just not completely easy and needs some experience ...

[Opinion] nexus 4 vs S4

the nexus 4 is a great device, and im sure the Galaxy S4 will be nice also.
I realize this is a Nexus 4 forum, but my question is this; is the s4 a worthy upgrade from the nexus 4?
please shout off below, and I will give thanks to those who deserve it.
and there is a poll up top

I totally forgot about the HTC one XD
that device is also pretty slick (maybe) so also give opinions on that phone too maybe?
thanks!

By the time S4 becomes available the N4 will be over 6months+ old; this is a long time in phone tech these days.
For me the performance improvement isn't enough considering the time gap; just wait another few months for the real next gen.
Just ask yourself one question. Can you live without timely updates? Also, cyanogenmod devs are not going to be buying the s4. If I can find the source I will post it.

Agreed it's not worth it at all, I had the S3 and I am never going back to plastic. The only thing I would get is the One, and that's if it gets S-OFFed. Honestly, I am 100% happy with this phone, I'll wait for the next nexus before I even consider anything else.

Honestly I my self am not impressed with the new changes to the s4(meaning most of the "new" features could have been a software update on the s3). I've owned the entire galaxy line accept the note family and just switched to a nexus 4. Samsungs got a lot of bug issue within there phones as well as hardware issues Samsung has really began to become the iPhone of the android world honestly I would wait to see what Google has in the works in there upcoming press conference before making any decisions then you have the three to choose from being the HTC one s4 and maybe a Nexus 5. Coming from a previous Samsung user and the experience I've had with there products I would not go back and for me personally as well nothing beats stock android and always getting an update weather your phone is 2 years old or 2 months old. Well that's my 2 cents take it or leave it and have a blessed day.

Samsung needs to stop trying to re-invent the wheel. They are are adding too much crap to the phones in the form of Samsung made social media crap, media players and other proprietary software.
If they don't add clean simple features then people will lose interest. When I bought my S3 I was fumbling around trying to find out how most of the new features worked, only to find it cumbersome and counter-intuitive. What good are features if you never use them?

Will CM support the One?

Hello folks.. i'm thinking of getting the HTC One. I'm really in love with it but i'm a rom junkie. As you know HTC One X got the official CM support 6 months later what do you think about the One? Will it get the CM on time or like 5 or 6 months later as One X?
Ask to CM team as they are the only person who can precisely answer
Send from my S3 (2nd HTC one goes for replacement)
Yet they are the ones who push us back to this forum and say "if we will support something then it will be HERE in the forums"
So I think he should ask here and just maybe one of the cm devs will give us an answer

The real question is when will the HTC One gain S-OFF

I just saw that Codeworkx is getting the One... So yeah, I expect there will be CM love for the One. Though like many say, I don't think it's worth it just yet. But when Android 5.0/KLP hits us, it will be hard to resist a CM11 build if available..
source: codeworkx.de (3rd of 4th post)
Koush has ordered the unlocked developer version (x2), so he will be supporting CM for sure.
And as for the S4, team Hacksung has already said they *wont* be supporting it, so don't expect that to be better.
In the end, as many have said, both devices will get CM, whether official or not. But why you would want to lose great features like Zoe and the new gallery I don't know. Just install Nova or Apex launcher, and Sense will be out of your face 90% of the time while keeping access to the good bits.

It's not about JellyBean i won't even consider flashing another JB rom on Sense 5. But Key Lime Pie is on the horizon and i can't resist to give it a try. KLP is going to be awesome and most of us will want to get it. But we all know we won't be getting the official update before at least 6 or more months.
Yes HTC is a weird bird slow as hell to get official anything. ie thunder bolt. With this 4 Meg ultra camera I see the support for that being unrealistic ie 3d no one ever got that to work.
I am a fan of the hardware and once again do not like physical buttons like coming on the GS4 . I am spoiled from my g nexus.

[Q] Anyone considered getting an LG L9?

Been looking into this phone and it seems like it has some pretty impressive specs for the price. Also comes with ICS with a possible Jelly Bean update on the way. Have any of you looked into buying one? It doesn't have the most impressive development right now but with ICS and a dual core processor you might not need a custom rom if you just use stock apps such as Nova launcher. I have heard it is also really fast. Thoughts?

I would say no, you can get root but boot loader is locked and it looks like that it will never be unlocked, plus few/any kernel sources. Never trust they will bring jb. So wait for moto x phone I hear that's gonna be 200 and that much better of a deal. If you choose to get the l9 go in expecting to run the same software for the next 2 years. Not appetizing IMO

Yeah, I agree. X phone is supposed to similar to the Nexus 4 in terms of bang for buck and is also supposedly able to be customized to your liking similar to computers.
No development support on XDA means I won't buy the phone, period. I did some checking a month ago and there are no custom ROMs here or anything else. Guess I've been spoiled by the devs we have for this phone.
Yeah think I decided to wait until the X phone or until I find a cheap GS2 I can pick up or something.
I considered this one, but decided against it. The lack of custom development and having to cut down or activate a new SIM were the main reasons. I think my next one will be a Nexus phone of some type.

Only CM10.1 (and it is a mostly functional, with active development) ROM. That CM9 post is a fake. Anyway, the point is, there is some development with that phone.
Also I brought an L9 a couple months back, before TMO goes contract-less as a PREPAID, which is cheaper than it is now. :highfive:

No problem. It is still difficult to unlock the bootloader for L9, as it is a lengthy process. But it is possible, and people have been (after unlock the bootloader) make CM10.1 working on that phone. So in conclusion, I think we can say L9 is not XDA friendly, but still can be made to use custom ROMs. And things looks good as more people are coming to this phone and find new ways to customize it.
I remember when this phone came out a year ago, there really wasnt much development for the phone. Mostly just modded stock roms thanks to jocala. When I bought this phone as a backup/mp3 player I was utterly surprised at how much it has grown. The exhibit has almost just as much roms as the gs3/N2 minus the 4.1 touchwiz roms the exhibit has it all...
Point is that who knows the fact that this phone is cheap it may pick up

I just wish I could spend $360 on a phone and not miss it! Anyway as hard as it is to believe the Exhibit is running so good right now thanks to Exit_Only and Team Insomnia that a new phone won't be necessary for a while. Least for me. Ironic that it survived this long as I nearly got ready to smash it so many times in frustration over the last year. We've come a LONG way from the days of the Xquizit and CM9 ROMs.

How's the camera and screen dpi? I like taking photos with my phone but have heard the camera isn't the best on the L9. I am considering either purchasing an L9, picking up a used Blaze 4G, or waiting till they clear inventory of the 8gb N4. The blaze is nice but I like the screen size of the L9.

Is it worth swapping my S3 for an xperia Z

Hi guys
I'm currently a owner if an S3 and slightly peed off with the lack of sources, battery life on AOSP and etc.... So is it worth swapping my non dev friendly S3 for the dev friendly Xperia Z?

Just went from S3 LTE to an Xperia Z and couldn't be happier!
WHAT....... are you crazy. S3 has some of the best development. I don't know what ur talking bout. And if u like the xperia try jovy23's xtremeperia ROM. Its flawless and is as close to xperia as u can get on an S3. Also good on battery.

Its the i9300 just to be clear... To be fair there is a lot if development but I've tried all the ROMs on the s3 stock and AOSP and stock is well terrible and AOSP isn't great for battery life and still has other issues due to Samsung being tight with their sources

Cant speak for international S3 but from US S3 to XZ is not a big upgrade if any...
See this is the thing the US S3 is better (development wise) than the international.

if you looking for developement the XZ is not the place to go...there is like 5 stock rom, 1 kernel, and 5-6 AOSP, AOKP CM10.1 rom...
Get the Xperia Z!

Upgraded from an S3 to the XZ, only because I managed to drop the S3 and cracked its front glass.
Otherwise, I'd still be happy to stay with the S3.
User experience wise, it's not much different with the XZ, the S3 was fast and quick as well. The increased ppi, you can tell if you look for it..but in reality, it doesn't affect your overall experience very much at all.
The Xperia Z is supposed to be getting stock Android and will be sold in the Google Play Store. That I presume will lead to better development of this phone. :good:

anyone pay for that will be a fool, i'm sure sony will charge ridiculous price for it...the Dev can copy the system and post it on here.
That's pretty much what I meant. Our phone will benefit from this...if it happens.

As long as there is stable AOSP I am a happy chappy, and this is something that just isn't available for the Galaxy S3, neither I9300 nor I9305, and it literally never will be either. Mark my words. S4? Sure. S3? No. Don't buy an S3 if you are interested in ROM development... unless you are talking about ROM cooking I guess, but that isn't really "development".
Also there are like 2 usable custom kernels for I9300/I9305, neither of which run on AOSP.
While we're on the subject, you'll notice -if you look- that the actual developers that own an Exynos-based S3 all seriously hate it and have vowed not to buy any more pure-Samsung devices because of it. Speak to codeworkx on IRC about it if you're interested in hearing more about why the S3 sucks. Suffice to say that I am certainly not purchasing any more Samsung products without first seeing some sources for the device.

Agree with you. Owner of a exynos s3 and the major problem is they lie to costumers telling that s3 will be upgraded and are delaying this not to damage s4 sales. S3 is a unfinished phone. Samsung never get this beast to fully working. Lags overall do bad memory management. Even s2 sometimes works better. And if you have the chanxe buy instead a n4.

I'd love the N4 and I completely understand why the S3 sucks due to sources not being released properly, I've already spoke to codeworx and his answer was "every Sony runs AOSP better"
So I'm going for it!! Good bye S3 and hello XZ
Thanks for your input guys!

S3 international version may suck but U.S version is hard to beat...its what reviewer classify as an Iphone De-throner... and I was using AOKP on my S3...I still missed my S3. My main developer that I like are Faux and Task 650, any other Developer I am grateful for their work but I wont choose them over the two i have. Simply put they are the best at what they do and they are currently rocking Samsung and Nexus device.
THe only reason I am not using AOKP or CM10.1 on this device because A2DP sounds sucks (little bass or detail in sound, it sound like there is too much mid or treble)...I had to switch back to stock rom, not everything on CM10.1 here is fixed, but I imagine it would be soon, hopefully. again I would not advise anyone to buy this phone again, I gave it a try and I dint like it, never again. I remember using the Sony K850i and that was awesome quality stuff from Sony, I missed that phone too.

Well, we were specifically discussing the international version so I don't really see how a comparison to the US version (which is a completely different device) is useful.
Also K850i was a SonyEricsson device! (very important because Ericsson <3)

Krait dual-core, big difference. And yes, it is roughly on par with Exynos S3.
