Battery connection! - Nexus 7 General

I got home from work to find that my N7 had been delivered.
It would not turn on!!
After some googling and trying to reset from bootloader, and nothing, then came across a topic about battery connection being loose!
Ant it turns out that mine was loose!
Come on Asus, surely it coiuldnt have come loose in transit as when I popped it back on the click was quite hard, so it can't have been in properly from the factory, I hope this is not a sign of things to come?

Seems a common issue.
Had similar issue. And now case creaks after I opened it to connect battery properly.
I noticed that battery was all the way to the one side of the case and that cable to board was not long enough, so when I plugged battery in properly it moved battery slightly. Maybe this movement caused the creaking, as maybe battery is supposed to be flush against one side of case.
Never had this on previous nexus 7 tablets. This one is a 32gb model when all my previous were 16gb.

Have not had any creaking on mine, just a bit crap really, it should have been right to start with, can't get over how good battery life is though

I love this piece of junk.

I have to admit the build quality is second rate, but I really love this little piece of crap. Yeah, it has that weird cross-axis multitouch problem and the screen keeps wanting to jump out of the bezel (or at least peep over the edge). And I'm told if you turn down the brightness and read the mobi version of 'War and Peace' while standing on your head and humming theme song to Star Trek on the first Wednesday after a full moon with a pomegranate in your pants at some point you'll get some kind of screen flicker, but I haven't seen that yet.
I love the GPS on this thing. I especially love that fact that I could get a device with GPS and no cell radio (which invariably involves a wireless provider and either a contract or a ridiculously high price). I've used multiple Android phones over the last couple of years, and aside from an Evo 3D that worked fairly well, GPS on functionality was horrible to useless.
I'm still debating whether to RMA it for the multitouch problem, because I can see that being an issue with some apps (mostly games). But, considering the price, even if that never gets fixed, so long as it keeps working as well as it is now, I can live with the imperfections.
Same with me I love this little POS. Asus has a long history of making good products with lower build quality. My first laptop was an asus then got the eeepc then transformer tablet and how the nexus. The laptop broke and so did the eeepc, I sold the transformer after a few months so I don't know how well it would of held up but I still think all of them were great value for the price. Out of all of those the nexus 7 is the best in terms of build quality.

Whoa cowboy! Who do You think You are to interfere in such a way? If You have a problem with this thread, report it to mods, but don't act like a cnut.
Back on topic, I guess I'm lucky as my device (third...) is perfect. Gotta admit tho' , that it is one sweet piece of junk.
Gps is great btw. I get fix in seconds inside my place, while desire s barely can get signal even laying just by the window.
I have the multitouch problem too, and honestly I think most people have it but don't realize it. I've already rma'd three times for other problems so I'm not going to even consider it. Unless news starts coming in about new ones being perfect with no occurrences of multitouch issues, then I'll probably be tempted. Right now I'm seeing reports of people exchanging it for the multitouch issues only to get a replacement with the same problem. No thanks. And I love this thing as well, everyone I show it to is amazed at what it can do (nfc Google wallet, face recognition, gps, Google now, flash, etc)

First tablet for me. Long term Linux user but I can do most things on this and so rarely boot my laptop now. Have a sneaky feeling that Swiftkey on my phone is a little better, but not by much.

I have 100's of hours of usage on my N7 now, and I'm sure mine has no "multitouch issues".
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I still haven't seen any issues with multitouch, or screen flickers, or anything else people have complained about. I guess you hear about all the bad things but never about people who have no problems with it.
I really love the tablet too. I just love how fast it is and the streamlined experience I have with Google Apps syncing my mail and reminders. 90% of the things I did on my laptop are not done on my Tablet which is browsing the web, videos, music, and small games.
Since I'm having issues with this one, I think I'll get a refund and try the tablet some other time since I can't deal with these issues right now.
I think its far from a piece of junk but I luv mines too! No screen lift speakers sound good and screen works as advertised. Perfect little companion.

Owned a TF101 and Galaxy Tab 2 7" and this is by far my far my favorite. The speed is top notch and the 7" screen size is also great. The 1280 resolution kicks the crap out of the 1080 that the Tab2 has. Pretty much the perfect device in my opinion.

I have currently the HTC desire (in a draw somewhere), galaxy s2-exynos4210 (for alarm clock/ gaming), galaxy s3-exynos4412 (main phone), archos 70it (7inch 1ghz single core tab that I got in 2010 and is in my wardrobe somewhere and haven't seen it in like 6months ) and Samsung galaxy tab 10.1(alarm clock/ pdf viewer).
I also know my s3's cpu is more powerful, the GPU is considerably more powerful, yet I prefer using this less powerful nexus 7. I couldn't think of a better phrase to describe how I feel about this tab, the op by saying "I love this piece of junk" has just got it bang on. Out of all my devices, the n7 is defiantly my favorite at the moment. Although, I have just put a leaked Jelly Been rom (LH7) on my s3 and it is smoother than the n7 but stock android just looks sooooooo! much better looking than touchwiz, so when the s3 gets a stableish CM10 (as in all the elements which make "project butter" work are working properly as it isn't that smooth at the moment and the memory leak is fixed) , my n7 my have some competition. But at the moment, the n7 is just fantastic.
I had the Multitouch issue and screen lifting. I RMAed it and still have those issues. The multitouch isn't causing me any problems for now so I decided to ignore it. I'm watching closely on the screen lift problem (stable, for now). I also decided to enjoy my N7 and accept the fact that Asus can't do better than this at the moment....

Lol, that is bad. My niece got a cheap Android tablet last Christmas. I think it was selling for about $150 at the time. It was slow, had a horrible resistive screen and it lasted about a week.
The quality of junk is steadily improving. I always try to keep 20-years-ago me in mind when I'm feeling cheated because the glass on my $250 high-powered hand-held computer (with 24-bit accelerated HD video, super-accurate GPS, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, wireless broadband internet, touch interface, loads of cheap or free apps and games; which holds every song I've ever owned plus HD movies) barely perceptibly pokes out on one side. 20-years-ago me would be envious as hell and would slap me for being such a spoiled baby.
I love this. Thind and its in my opinion better than the iPad.

Fair enough, but considering you have to not be touching the tablet in any way other than the screen, not have it charging, not have it on your lap, and not have headphones plugged in, not have it sitting on any conductive surface, and use a multitouch app or such to see the problem, I'm sure there are plenty of people who have it who don't notice. I have hundreds of hours of usage too and had no idea till I saw the thread and recreated the conditions.
People in the thread are asking those that don't have it to post a video so they can be sure it's not standard. One guy didn't have it with two fingers, but was able to recreate it with four. But as soon as I'm sure that new ones are defect free, I'll probably try to get it exchanged,.

Again, before you say that, please read the thread, it's not a problem most would see under regular use. Not saying you don't have it, but I don't want people to think it's a huge obvious problem when it really isn't (like I said, you have to be not touching the tablet in any way other than your fingers, etc. Mine is in a case and even holding it in the case makes it work fine, but there may be some case materials that could make it so the multitouch issues show up as if you weren't there touching the tablet)
Honestly I wish I hadn't read some of these threads., I wouldn't even know these problems existed : )

Took the plunge

Just thought I'd make my first post on my new N7, finally gone and bought one, got the 16gb version.
So far so good, quite like the tablet and think it's a pretty good nose for a tab not as brick like and heavy as others.
No screen flex or light bleeds I don't think, any other issues to watch out for?
Cheers peeps.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The only issue i've seen was some minor screen lift but aside from that its been a phenominal tablet. I also recently picked up the 16GB and have been very happy with it! Very smooth/fast.
My tab has been terrific. Haven't had any issues with it. I do get a horizontal line flash every once in a while. It hasn't increased in frequency and doesn't seem to have any lasting effects. Left hand side, the screen is squishy but only if I consciously press down on it near the edge.

Check the speakers for crackling/distortion at louder volumes. Then check your headphone jack.
If you're still concerned about screen lift, here are my instructions for a simple visual test.
Linked for brevity.
Just love mine! I had a transformer tab but it was just to bulky and slow. Once I played with my wife's nexus I had to have one!
Mine is all good so far
I am in love with a 7 incher called nexus 7.I own a transformer and literally have not touched it since my nexus 7.It is just a little power house, and let me just say, rooting it is a must. The otg cable is awesome.I hated 7 inch tabs before this tablet,I'm now selling the transformer and hate 10 inch tablets, best money I have ever spent.I sleep with it every night, lol.

Nexus 7 32GB battery charging issues

So I bought a 32GB Nexus 7 like a week ago, and sold my 16GB one to a good friend because I found there wasn't enough space on it for my obsessive film habits, lol.
Anyways this problem didn't seem to manifest itself until I upgraded to 4.2.1. Now, the battery sometimes actually drains instead of charging, and this happens while doing anything but keeping the screen locked and doing something else (not easy!). Is there any way of fixing this besides unlocking my bootloader and losing all of my films and apps, then flashing a ROM? Thanks in advance, guys.

Negatives on Nexus 4

Seems like every time a new nexus seems like in the first three months you can't say anything negative about the phone. It must be better than everything else or bust. Its like the phone you own defines you as a person. Seems like if you think something is bad about a nexus something is wrong with you and a lot you guys attack people who are actually in touch with reality.
Apple does not give a hot damn about a nexus and it laughable to think the number 1 phone maker on the planet is worried about us. The fact that some think they have a hidden smear campaign is just nuts.
The nexus 4 is an awesome phone but it has some flaws like everything else. You can lie to yourself to make your purchase feel better but facts are facts. Here are some of the negatives so people thinking of buying this phone can now what is true and to expect.
1. This phone is very fragile ( more than any other phone I owned ). Its glass front and back so expect to own a case and screen protectors. If this phone is gorilla glass its the crappiest I have ever seen or the weakest. All these guys saying they drop there phones and not even a mark, come on. Common sense you can look at this phone and tell any hard floor and a drop over 1 foot something is getting marked or cracked.
2. After you crack the front the screen stops working and the phone is pretty much junk might as well buy a new one. This is not an iPhone so replacement parts will be hard to find and cost will be high. I can crack an iPhone and for 30-40 bucks fix it myself. Good luck on this its the same as the nexus 7. Once cracked it is pretty much worthless.
3. Phone does get pretty warm if the screen is on for about 20 min even on auto brightness. I know its a thin phone but even with a case its hot in the back.
4. Screen colors are washed and LCD is not great. Not saying its bad but its not winning any awards. Put this next almost any other top phone and you will see why people say its washed. Yes you can adjust but you have to root and flash custom and a custom kernel for best results. Then its a little better but it will always be an LCD can't change that. Viewing angles no good and blacks are not deep blacks.
5. Battery life is just ok, some may even say bad. I am on custom ROMs so its a little better but around 4 hours on screen time on average.
There are a few other minor things but for the most part these are the flaws. I still suggest this phone because its cheap, its unlocked, super fast, stock android, and its sleek and sexy. I am not a troll spent over 2 grand ordering nexus 4's, probably donated hundreds of dollars to devs.
Post what you think the negatives are of this phone.

And your stock right? I mean depending what you customize you can get 5 hours but a screen shot would help of proof. And the LCD I'm not saying is bad just not amazing. Its sharp but when I look at an amoled I start missing it again.
Yeah I didn't want to name the minor stuff, lots of people don't even know what USB otg is, could said lack of storage, yellow tint, no LTE, etc.
Main flaw is the whole scratch easy and breaks easy and don't break the front glass or it stops working. Has anyone found out why the nexus 7 and 4 have this problem. I am guessing its somewhere along the line of this how they got the cost down so much. After breaking a nexus 7 on carpet I kinda want Google to make the devices better builds or release some cheap parts to fix them.

Not too sure about the N7, but the N4 uses zero gap technology. I don't really remember the details but it's something along the lines of removing a layer from between the screen and digitizer so they can have a screen without a bezel.

when I got my nexus 4, I couldnt wait for it to come and try it out. i was coming from an htc one x. and no way in the world does the nexus 4 screen come close to the htc one x's. and my nexus 4 started having random shutoffs, heated up, battery was draining faster than i could charge. and the camera sucks on this phone. I got myself a note 2 its a solid device and I do miss the pure google experience, but tbh LG effed it up.
My biggest complaints:
-battery life is atrocious compared to my previous devices
-volume rocker gets hit a lot when pushing wake button one-handed
-google support, I feel like I was somewhat suckered into purchasing by having a Qi charging orb, miracast accessories, and the bumper dangled in front of me only to have them nonexistent, sold out and/or just plain silent when it comes to answers regarding future availability
-the flash on the camera needs to be toned down
-audio is pretty muffled when using speakerphone and phone is laying on it's back, thanks to speaker location
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I also have to disagree with the last three points
My phone only gets warm with intense CPU stuff (which is expected...)
I love the colors, and I can easily manipulate them to give richer, deeper colors through kernels and what not of I grow unhappy later
Battery for me is really good... 4+ screen in 18+ hours... On 3G with WiFi its 6+ in 20+

I am not going to discuss the other points but, you are right, the phone is very fragile. Mine suffer a falling from about one meter which cracks the screen. In any case, the replacement by an official client service costs near 150€, transport included, so the complain about the components cost its not fair.

@Fataldesaign what's the matter with you??
You've started at least 8 anti-nexus 4 thread in this forum, most of them which for locked. All of your thread are something negative.
I remember you ate the same guy from that thread where you started calling everyone your hater and all ... There's no need to start so many thread on the flaws of Nexus 4. One or two is OK.
Thread reported. Kindly do not make useless threads now.
I don't understand why people come in some phone's forum, and make a thread "faults of this phone". I mean, if you don't like this phone, at least don't turn those who spent money in getting the device against it? It may have its flaws, but we are OK with them. We don't need reminders about the bad things. I mean, constructive criticism is GOOD. But not pointless pointing out of flaws...
If you have complaints, kindly submit an error report to Google.
Hope you get my point.

Negative stuff

Hearing some negative stuff about reboots, inconsistent dock attachment and still stuttering, makes me think twice. This thing is damned expensive.
Keeping my tf700 and buying a new gpad or nexus 8 may be in the cards. Lol.
Per my other posts it is concerning that best buy has eradicated most of the infinity eee line from the stores. That and the fact that I feel a bit "rooked" by my purchase of the tf700 in that I thought I was getting a powerhouse device. Still love it though

Not forget you read specially here about the so called negative stuff because we are used to discover these things much earlier than "normal" users. Not forget also that the users that have no issues at all are at least a factor 10 more than the one that have one or more minor to severe issues.
In all the tablet is very good but go in the thread of the nexus 10 or latest samsung tablet and they have their own "negative" things too.
Tablet works flawless for me. Stable, stunning display and having come from a TF700 this is blazingly fast! No dock issues with fitment for me. The only complaint is that I wish Asus still made the more "premium" aluminum dock. The new docks just feel like a cheap toy by comparison to the tablet quality.
I have no problems with mine, too. Blazing fast. No hickups. Ok, tablet is a little loose in the dock, but mine doesn't disconnect... yet
Sent from my K00C using Tapatalk
Mine is wonderful so far. I haven't got the dock yet, but it's performing well with everything I throw at it. Chrome jitters a little, but it is the same on my girlfriend's nexus 10.
I'm happy I bought it. After the horrible tf201, I almost swore off another asus tablet.
This speed demon has my girlfriend jealous. I can't stop playing with it. Having had the TF700T this seems like a Maserati compared to the old Ford Escort..

The TF701T is running android JB 4.2.2. These sound like early bugs that Asus is still working out. This happens with most releases from them. They are pretty good at issuing updates to fix them early on in the life cycle. Hopefully they are also working on KK4.4 as it absolutely flies on my nexus 5 especially as Google are dropping dalvik just in time (JIT) compilation and have introduced Android RunTime (ART)
My initial TF701 had a problem with the dock connection - tilting the screen even e few millimeters towards me resulted in the device turning off. I returned it and waited until it was clear that this was an incidental rather than structural problem. I got a new one about a week ago and I love it! No problems to date.
I have noticed some strange graphic artifacts. Once upon boot, I had a black screen with white lines until I made it sleep and woke it again. Today I bought GTA vice city, and I see strange graphics that correspond to gameplay. Has anyone else seen this? I'm guessing it's software, which doesn't bother me too much, but after the tf201, I'm leery about missing my return window or unlocking early.

Just got mine. I had that same problem with black and white screen the first time I attached to dock and it updated itself. That was just a few hours ago. Otherwise all seems good. I do notice the screen does not seem as bright as my TF101 and the colors do not seem as true.
I am looking forward to rooting and getting upgrade to KitKat

Use the Splendid App that the device supplies to adjust your color palette. I have mine on - 6 (cool). Seems brighter and more true on that setting. At least for me.
