Trying to root my girlfriends Kindle fire HD, but ADB never seems to find it.
Any suggestions on what to do?
I've got the drivers installed on on two computers (win 8, vista). I have ADB turned on in the device.
She has a MAC, and when she tries to use the Root process here it asks for the root password. Neither of us know what that would be.
Any help here?

Thanks, didn't realize it was asking for root on the Mac and not the device.
Device is rooted, now just have to get the market on it and then decide if she wants a different ROM

I had to go into device manager, uninstall the kindle driver, and then replug it, and let them reinstall before mine would recognize.
have you edit the adb usb ini ?
Hi Folks,
i am completely desperate and really don´t know what to do. I researched the whole internet yesterday, read so many Topics regarding my problem, but i still can´t solve it.
My goal is to root my Kindle Fire with the Kindle Fire Utility but therefore i need the driver with adb and fastboot. So i downloaded the last version of KFU 0.96 unzipped it like recommended to c:/kfu and installed the drivers through the install_drivers.bat
Afterwards i uninstalled the "Kindle" Driver over the device manager and rebootet my system. I reconnected the KF but he used the same driver for my device again.
When i now try to actualize the driver on my own, i never see this Android or Google Driver in my overview and i really dont know why?
What am i missing? Why i cant pick this driver on my own? Any helpful suggestions?
Edit: what i am start thinking about is that i might have a wrong driver in the package? because when i try to pick the driver on my own i got an error message that this driver is not compatible for my windows. do i may have to change anything inside the code of the driver???

Did you try searching on YouTube? If you type how to root kindle fire there are a dozen videos for the original kindle fire. Which kindle do you own?
Okay, so heres my problem. I got this phone from a friend that he had rooted and had worked, and he wound up reseting it and such before handing it over too me. Im no noob on the rooting and even on installing custom roms.
The phone does not recongnize on my computer in hboot.
Now ive done my research and i know its not supported in windows 8 for the drivers, and the only other computer i have would be a windows xp (which gave the same results)
Anyways, my friend no longer has the computer he used to root the phone, and im stuck with no wifi and no service(was just going to use it as a game tablet like phone. which i was using with my samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket before that died.)
I do have drivers installed, ive tried multiple ways to try and create the adb stuff so i can do this but it always gets stuck on waiting for devices.
So i guess what im asking is, am i SOL or is there a work around on windows 8 to get this up and working. im willing to try any and every suggestion, even if it means i have to go and get a "copy" of windows 7 or if there is a way to get it to work on win xp that would be even better.

See thats my problem though, i cant even bring up adb to recongnize the phone. I have the unlocked status on the hboot page, but i cant simply make my computer recongnize the phone when its in hboot mode. Ive tried every single forum that search will bring up about fixing the issue, and most have simply put that its not supported by windows 8 (at sometime during the post, not in initial posts) My main problem is, i use the phone without a connection to a cellular tower, only through wifi, but without being able to boot img file of what ever rom i put on, the wifi wont work.
I cant restore to stock via the same problem being, the hboot or fastboot part, will not recognize on my windows 8 computer.

At this point I'd look into Linux...
I don't know if they have it yet... but wubi makes life pretty easy on past windows incarnations...

I have a better solution for you (IMO)
Download ubuntu .iso from the ubuntu website.
burn the .iso to a disk.
set your machine to boot from cd before booting from HDD (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130425190900AADNjgh)
now, when you boot, it should take you into ubuntu. On the screen that pops up, select english, and then "Try Ubuntu" or whatever the equivalent is.
now, set up adb and fastboot for ubuntu using any method you like ere is a link to a guide: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/08/install-adb-and-fastboot-android-tools.html don't worry, it works on 13.04 or any other new version of Ubuntu.
Your ADB and Fastboot should work in any terminal window now. If you get an error like "insufficient permisions for device" then read on below:
Normally, you would type "adb devices"
instead, now type "sudo adb devices"
the terminal window will prompt you for a admin pass. Use the pass you used when setting up the trial. if you didn't use a pass, just press enter. for all your following adb or fstboot commands, use "sudo adb..." or "sudo fastboot..."
If this helped you, Thank me
Well that was a waste of a Skyrocket

Hi Team,
I feel like I'm pretty close to being able to root this thing. Never used ADB, telnet, or any of the other random things I've spent several days reading about, but I think I've got it lined up to give it a shot.
I wish I could do this on my mac, but it seems the MotoWpNoMo step requires a PC. I do have an old laptop running xp (sp3), so for that step I'll use it. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the drivers to work. I've installed the motorola device manager's newest incarnation and still no luck getting it to pick up my device.
Any advice on how to get windows XP to recognize my device?

what do you mean by your computer won't pick up your device.
like when you plug in your device nothing happens no driver's start to install or on your phone does it say USb debugging enabled or MTP.
or when you computer trys to install the drivers it fails.
if you not getting anything at all when you plug your phone in i would try a different USB port if still nothing then i would try a different USB cable
if you are having issues getting the drivers to install you can try downloading the Moto X toolkit, it has a option to download the drivers plus it also comes with ADB and everything else in the folder it installs to.(location is C:/Program Files/stillthisguy)
here is the link for the Toolkit for PC

Hey there folks,
So I unlocked, rooted my Nexus 6, and then flashed Cyanogenmod12. So far pretty happy, but I was thinking about switching back to play around with Marshmellow, but ran into a problem. My nexus doesn't seem to want to connect with my pc anymore... kind of.
I did the normal thing, USB debugger is on and I updated drivers through SDK but then when I plug it in I'll still occasionally get an automatic prompt that tries to install drivers and stalls. I do cannot find my device listed anywhere when it is plugged into my pc, but I do here the beep that let's me know it is connected (and the device is charging).
I CAN get it to connect via PTP but cannot get anything to happen with MTP.
So I'm stumped. Feels like the hardware is working but I'm running into driver issues, but... well I don't know.
Help? Please?
You need to tell us what OS you're using, what software you installed prior to plugging it in, if you made a TWRP backup before you jumped to CM12.1, if you have an understanding of ADB commands or if you used WugFresh to do all the unlocking and installation steps. Just list anything you think would be pertinent. More information is always better than less.

So, I've been on stock until I switched over to CM12. I do have a twrp backup but apparently only did that after I moved to CM12. I have only the most basic (read basically nonexistent) understanding of ADB, and can follow directions I find online but no real knowledge as to how anything works. I also did not use wugfresh, but unlocked via ADB and rooted via chainfire. Honestly, I followed most of the direction I found on youtube via a creator called wwjoshdo (I'd link but I'm not allowed).
Otherwise that feels like the info. I didn't fiddle with my nexus until I started have battery issues and then decided to unlock/root/flash, and that was about 6 weeks ago. I'm also running what standard apps for a rooted device on CM12, flashify, cyandelta, setcpu, and, Titanium Backup. Help?

Are you using Windows 10? If so, I have that same issue with MTP, however, fastboot/adb commands will still work.

Yup, should mentioned that. I am on 10. (And I'm just realizing that's what AlkaliV was asking about!) I'm on 10 home, 64 bit.
Well good to know that I'm not alone. So here is a question, if you are getting abd to work and I don't know how to use abd really. Anyone have a tutorial you'd recommend to help me figure out how to use it?
Or care to help me figure out how to use abd?

So this link will get you up and running with ADB (if it isn't already working): http://forums.team-nocturnal.com/index.php?/topic/1362-how-to-adb-fastboot-in-windows-xp-7-81-10-updated-9-11-2015/
These are the most common commands that are used with ADB once you get it installed. Also, an excellent way to pull a log from the command prompt: http://developer.android.com/tools/help/shell.html
Assuming you can see the device once you pass the command, "adb devices" it means you are connected but the MTP driver hasn't been loaded properly. I had to fix this by cycling Android debugging and ADB notification in developer's option until Windows was like, "Hey! There it is!" Also, MTP works properly for me when booted into TWRP so if you desperately need to transfer a file you can do it from the TWRP recovery menu.
Noob Tip/Reminder: Make sure that when you plug it in the first time you change it from 'Charge Only' to MTP and if things still seem quirky reboot Windows. It's all just a game of getting it recognized at this point.
