[Q] What to do when I soft brick. - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

I was installing the DA Statusbar mod. Before I did that I back up my phone using CWM and Titanium Backup.
installed with no problems, I then rebooted. Home screen froze for a second and then showed me that my system.ui crashed. It kept doing that for a good 5 minutes. I decided to go back into CWM and restore my last saved state. I recieved an error installing the back ups (I have made 5 so far).
Now I don't really know what to do. I know I have to basically start from the beginning via flashing stock rom on odin. But how would I go about doing that? I can't seem to find the thread that explains this. =/
Thanks in advanced
SOLUTION HERE

You need to be much more specific. What's your recovery version? How did you backup/restore? Have you done this before? What's the error?

Use the unified tool kit to flash the stock rom.
I strangely cannot find a thread for the 9305 for stock roms =\

The stock firmware can be found on sammobile

To shorten the question and answers... If you could still boot to Download mode.
Flash your stock original firmware trhu Odin on your pc or download an exact model for your phone in SamMobile. From there you start a new... Root then re flash the cwm and so on...

If I understand this right you can boot to cwm and you can boot into the phone but the systemui fcs.
You can do a couple things here without having to reflash anything through odin. If you have your original systemui on the phone somewhere you can try and navigate to it with a root explorer then copy it into your system/app reboot and it should be as before, this can be tricky with constant fc's.
If you have a zip which has a systemui in it you can flash that in cwm and should fix the problem.
If you have a custom rom on your phone you can boot into cwm and flash it.
The fact that you have access to cwm and the phone boots but the systemui constantly fc's making the phone unusable means you have more options and quicker ways to get your phone working then going back to scratch and flashing a rom through odin

Solution.
Basically I got stuck at the samsung boot logo for ages.
I am running CWM v5.5.0.4. I have done this before, sorry I wasn't specific, I was trying to multitask. I've attached a screenshot of my phone info for everyone to see.
1. I wiped data/factory reset.
2. Wiped cache partition.
3. Wiped Dalvik Cache
4. Battery Stats
Rebooted, still no luck.
I went into Download mode.
Opened Odin.
Downloaded " Param_Bin_I9305.zip - 612.14 KB" located in this post
Followed the instructions in that post.
rebooted.
Thought it didn't work but my capacitive buttons lit up. SUCCESS!
Saw my homescreen, I thought I would have needed to root again but I managed to get into CWM after rebooting.
I downloaded root checker....I saw that I still had root access.
Installed Pandoriam v6.
Now I am back to normal.
My CWM backup didn't save me, I don't really know why. Maybe I was using it wrong? The thing is It's worked with me in the past, but not on this device.
Is there anyone that could shed light on that issue? I'll try and back it up again. Do I need to repeat the backup more than a few times to register it to the device?

Not sure if this is the right place or not but seems to be a similar situation.
I have a month old S3 LTE that came with 4.1.2 . It has not been rooted or had anything done to it at all.
I found a thread that shows you how to unlock it but was not getting the final option . This I understood was because some of these phones needed to be downgraded .
I saw a procedure using odin and looked for a similar rom on Sammobile but could not see any for Orange UK so picked a random 4.1.1 Rom and flashed it.
This left me with a glowing Samsung boot screen so I tried another ROM and another ROM and finally when giving up choose a current 4.1.2 Rom for EE but that too is stuck at the same place.
Can you help me work out where I am or have been going wrong please?
The Phone is from Orange UK ( EE ) but there was no branding on it .
i also neglected to note the Rom that was on it

if you read the guides you will find out that you need to factory reset after flashing

Unfortunately as the phone is sitting at a glowing Samsung logo, I cannot factory reset. In fact I cannot do anything except keep throwing Roms at it, unless you have any other suggestions?

[Q] Phone won't startup - stuck on GalaxyS screen

Hey there,
I've got this SGS I9000 of a friend and tried to install a different ROM,
I already did it many times to other GS, though this one seems to be a tough one to crack.
For starters, He did not have the download mode, I've fixed it and placed the files on the SD of the phone.
Then I failed the root through Z4 and SOC, so I did it through Odin.
I got into the recovery (after made it 2e and not 3e), did the root and since then the phone won't got through the "Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung" screen.
Enters Download Mode, Enters Recovery, Nothing else.
I already did the factory and cache wipe, still nothing new.
I looked over through all the guides with nothing new, I let the phone "rest" on the screen I've mentioned above, not for 10 minutes, for 8 hours. Still, no cigar.
Any suggestions?
Just go to download mode connect it to pc and flash it via odin

Do you mean flash in the new rom?
Though after I rooted the device it still won't start up, and I havnt backed up the efs yet (through SGS TB).
Is it safe to skip that stage and flashing the rom directly?
I wanted to make sure after I did all the resets the phone still working and all the things I've placed on the SD are still there, and that the settings I've made were still the same.
If i was on your place i would flash it. It is not working so you don't have much to loose except apps, messages and contacts if they are on the phone.

Thats just it, I dont care of contacts messages etc. I already backed em up through KIES.
(Which is closed if I forgot to mention).
The problem is I don't want to lose any important information (thats why I'm eager to backup the efs and check if the root through the recovery worked.)
After I wiped to factory reset wasnt it supposed to start up? (Which I remember from other GS that happened?)
But if you have wiped your device all data is already lost.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
so how do I know if the root worked? The efs Data still supposed to be there (since I realized it's on the SD, and data on SD was not wiped after I saw all the files I placed there still there.)
Any more offers? Anyone?
Pretty Urgent..

[Q] Phone won't boot, simply vibrates.

Hey guys,
I tried to update my girlfriends Galaxy S today from Darky's rom to Miui, I tried to remove the lagfix by following the instructions through recovery.
However, after the phone rebooted it now displays the Galaxy S logo, then simply vibrates periodically (every 5 seconds, than every 12 - not that I think this matters).
Does anybody have a clue what I've inadvertently done and how to recover the device - preferable without wiping the data on-board.
Thanks in advance guys.
Just an update, it's clearly a soft brick. I can still get into download mode and recovery, it did a backup before it rebooted however I've tried to restore this backup and still no joy - although I do now get the old rom's boot animation back which is stuck on an endless loop with the phone vibrating in the background.
You probably won't be able to fix it without a wipe. You should still be able to get into download mode, so you can flash a full ROM with Odin. You need to use a .PIT file and make sure repartition is checked as the file system is probably broken.

Yeah miui uses a different file system so you have to undo that as described above. Then you may be able to restore the backup.

After you guys pointed me in the right direction and a little more digging I ended up stumbled across galnet's Miui thread and his instructions through there.
To cut a long story short the phone's now running Miui and I'm not in the dog house, thanks for the help guys.
Where would I get a JTAG repair?

[Q] Is my GT_i9000 dead?

Hi, I need some advice. I dropped my Galaxy S in a puddle. It was submerged for the just a second, but when I fished it out, the screen had gone 'weird', so I got the battery out as quickly as possible, then dried it out for a few days in the airing cupboard. I then tried it and it started up okay, then when I swiped to unlock the screen, it froze. since then I have been unable to boot the phone. It shows the Galaxy logo, then restarts and continues that loop.
I wondered if maybe the software has just been corrupted during its bath, so I thought i might try flashing a ROM onto it to see if that would recover. I found that I could not enter recovery mode but download mode opened okay. I have tried flashing a few ROMS using Odin. I am completely new to this and have never flashed my phone before, so steep learning curve. I have so far tried - I9000XWJW5 which I believe is normally used before installing Cyanogen mod. I also downloaded the T-Mobile Stock ROM and one with this filename - CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS. All of these successfully downloaded to the phone and I could see the progress bar on the phone. Unfortunately I still cannot get the phone into recovery mode.
So, whats your opinion? is my phone screwed? Is there anything else I can try which may help, like formatting or anything like that.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
try search for value pack 2.3.6 and flash it then root it after that I believe you should get the recovery option.

Can I do that without being able to get into recovery mode?
I've just been reading that I can use a PIT file to repartition during flashing. Is it worth trying? I noticed in the Value pack TAR file it does not have a PIT file. I got one downloaded from somewhere else called - s1_odin_20100512.pit worth a shot?
I tried including the pit file as well. Odin reported success but phone is still continuous boot loop and I cannot get recovery mode up. Do you think one of those USB things that get you into download mode would help? I'm beginning to think the internal SD is knackered, or something like that.
I think the memory is brocken but i don't realy know. Send it to Samsung for a check

[Q] HELP! i think i bricked my 5830D!

So I, (like apparently many other 5830D users) was having the bug where it would randomly restart for no apparent reason.
i read that froyo did not have this issue, and figured id give it a shot. i downloaded the ZSKC2 2.2.1 files and loaded them into odin with cooper_v1.0.ops, connected my phone and hit start.
it said it installed everything just fine, but when my phone went to reboot, it didnt.
it flashed a black, blank screen for maybe a second and that was it.
so i tried to go back into download mode on it so i could reinstall the firmware it had before, and i couldnt get it to work.
it would turn on the screen, flash the "downloading..." text for a second, and then turn off the screen. it was weird, because the text was white, not the yellow it always seemed to be. odin recognized my phone for that second, but that was it. once the display turned off, the connection went away. i've tried other usb ports, but no luck
is there any way i can fix this? or is my ace bricked for good? i have no warranty with it because i bought it used.
ive read about a USB jig, will that help?
please, any help at all would mean a lot!
1) You should have taken the bill & the warranty card from the owner you bought this phone.
Coming to the point, it appears to me that there might be a problem with your battery, but I ain't sure about this. Try using a different battery with your phone. Also, are you sure to have used the odin & stock rom for S5830D & not S5830 ? Check these aspects first. If you've got them right, then there'll be either a multi-package or a single package filed stock rom for your device. You can google for the exact odin flashing, try again to boot into download mode again & flash. If your phone fails again to go into the download mode, use the search option here on xda to find out the issue with your phone or the best thing to do would be go to the service centre & tell them that donno what went wrong & this happened.

okay, i tried the battery from my other phone and got it into download mode, i installed the stock rom and it is working again, but the reboot problem is still there!
is there any way to fix that? i have a feeling it might have something to do with the kernel, other roms still reboot and apparently froyo doesnt, the only thing common between all the gingerbread roms that i can think of is the kernel.
i have flashed S5830,T,L,B roms with no issues, but the reboot still occurs. cyanogen hasnt helped either, do you have any clues?

After flashing via odin, if you face a bootloop, reboot into stock recovery & do a factory reset & reboot now. It should work.

..but it is not tuck in a boot loop. its doing what the stock roms did; it'll boot into the rom fine, and you can use it, but once it goes to sleep the phone restarts itself.

If you are having this issue with the froyo, try it out with GB. If the issue prevails, go to service centre. Sorry for repeating the same thing again & again but that's the best I could say of it...

[Q] Return to Official Firmware

I rooted and installed CWM and Cyanogen 10.1.3 on by brothers Note, GT-N7000. He didnt enjoy it as some unexpected errors were coming up sometimes. Luckily i found the official Rom 4.1.2 N7000DDLSC_INU.zip through sammobile. Now My questions are:-
1. What must i do to completely remove cyanogenmod and clock work recovery.
2. Do i need some additional files like, kernel or bootloader or phone or csc (or will just all this zip to pda will install it)
3. What else should i take care of?
Please advice i want to completely return to official state
nothing much.. just the rom file you downloaded in tar.md5 format. Boot into recovery and factory reset the phone. then boot into download mode and flash the new rom..
But will that remove clock work mod.?
And will my device get recognised in kies?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
Yes
Now there's another panga. The phone received the files properly fine through doing but not installing after booting
Gets shut down at logo. This I tried it 2.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
Kindly elaborate... Did you factory reset prior to using Odin?
Ok.
I went into cwm.
1 I factory reset. Wiped the data
2 wiped catche
3 wiped dalvic catche
4 went into download mode
5 with Odin 1.85 recognised device installed official rom.
The progress was shown in both phone and Odin. Factoryfs, kernel, hidden and catche shown to be successfully copied.
Only the auto reboot was selected
After device restated it shouted the Samsung logo. Without triangle
I thought it was a success.
Then I saw green Android logo with install process which seemed to have successfully completed on the phone.
but then just as the Samsung and a ring revolving screen came up, insured of booting up the device got shut down.
I thought it will reboot ok but it didn't. I tried restating several times but it kept getting shutdown.
I then flashed the official firmware again but this time after Odin transferred all the files on the phone, the green android logo is not able to complete the installation in the middle of it the phone is restating showing the battery charging logo, then the green bot trying to install then again it restarts.
To sum up
I note

Not sure if you have any other strong reason to go back to pure stock. Otherwise the easiest way is to install a stock base custom rom using PhilZ kernel and rom.zip. Sweet rom 10.5 is very good. Fast and stable.
Install purestock rom via odin is a pain and can cause lots of problems due to poor cable connection.

Did you have enough battery before flashing? Power off the phone.. Then connect it to ac charger for couple of hours and then remove the charger and start the phone.
I do believe I had more than 80%on the 1st attempt but I can't say that about this morning.
Any ways I did put it on charge today. Nearly two hours. Since it was looping on the battery and installation thing I put it on download mode. But now after removing from download mode is not even starting on download mode. I feel is further damaged. Any other software to interact with the phone or any other options I might have left

If it is not the batery then software does not help. There is a tool name usb jig which can help put phone to DL mode.
