[Q] CWM Recovery issues - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can install CWM to a microSD card and run it just fine, but when I go to select any of the options within recovery it flashes and resets itself even when trying to reboot from recovery I have issues.

Are you selecting with the n key? A previous use was trying to use the power key to activate a selection. Power is the back key.

No why would I do that? /joking
Having had so many Android devices and all of them using the "Power" button as select, I just assumed it wasn't working for me. Thanks for the tip. It makes perfect sense now. Just out of curiosity, was that ever mentioned in any of the dev guides and I just over looked it?

[Q] recovery menu not working

Hello there, i have A853 Milestone with Bootlaoder 90.78
i flashed the file vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78 throgh RSDLite. However when I tried to launch OpenRecovery from Recovery Mode I couldn't get in to the menu. I can get to recovery, the one with the exclamation mark etc but using Volume Up + Camera combination will not bring up a menu.
You must hold power and the "x" button at the same time. That will get you into recovery.
flash the 90.78 VA sbf using rsdlite
hold x during the auto reboot
press vol. up + camera
apply openrevery update zip
you are inside OA now
remember to remove the script if you run OTA before
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
You can load your ROM yeah?
If so, then you can load OR without pressing any buttons

but if i dont have OpenRecovery how would i install CM 6 or 7?
if there is a way that i can load a recovery menu without the need to press Vol up + Camera..
Are you kidding me
The first link in your post pretty much spells it out.
See the list?
It has numbers
Follow the numbers in order from 1, then 2, etc...
Yes you can load recovery without pressing vol up + camera.
Just repeat what you did in the video - after you actually put open recovery on your sd card.

maybe you dont understand my problem.. i can reach recovery mode.. i do that by pressing Power On + X and when im in the recovery i dont get the menu the one you get by pressing vol up + camera, cause if i press them nothing happen its the same exclamation markwith the phone..
the thing that i showed you in the video is what happen if i run the script in order to enter the OpenRecovery
Do you have titanium beckup ? maybe you have replace update.zip in you SD card.
replace again AOR in you SD folder an try again.

You only have to hold X.
I think you're shutting it off when hold power+x heh
If you ran the "Install Open Recovery at Boot" script, then you won't need to use the vol+camera button either.
you can power-on, hold x until the M shows up and recovery loads

ohh now i understand.. still i did it and it does the same thing like the video i uploaded.. it looks like it trying to install the AOR but in like 1 sec it crashes and reboot..
what the hell is wrong with this milestone?
last week i did it to another stone and no problem what so ever...
So AOR is installed on the sd card and update.zip is in the root of the sd card, right?
If that's the case, the SD card is probably fubarred and probably needs formatting.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace - Low internal memory root?

I have this common problem with the ace, low internal memory. Ive done all the system resets, app2sd, clear cache, uninstall stuff, move to sd etc Done it all and it won't sort out the problem. So after hours of googling, the solution appears to be rooting.
I have a 32gb sd card and want it filled with apps and games so im 90% sure on rooting. But how safe is it? how easy? does it work? someone said i can root my phone so my sd card can act as the internal memory. But if i do this, can i still eject my sd card, put it in my computer and take files off there? should i root? someone said there is a 1superclick to root and de root, anyone?
I know its a lot of questions but any help is great.
Thanks
For me rooting was easy, i used a different program, but the end result is the same. Yes there are scripts etc that will enable you to use a partition on the sd for apps. The main thing to remember is to back up your existing Rom just in case. If you look thru the forums here, there are tutorials on rooting and installing a custom recovery. Welcome to the forums

I rooted mine by flashing this file through the stock recovery.
I don't remember a lot about the stock recovery but if you can, before rooting, backup your ROM.
Download the above file and put it on the root of your SD card (ie. NOT in a folder)
Boot into recovery mode by powering off your device and then powering on holding power+home.
in recovery you can scroll through the options using your volume buttons and select an option by pressing the home button. pressing the power button will take you back a screen.
Choose apply update from sd card option
Scroll through until you find the AceGingerRoot.zip
Press the home button to apply the update.
Now when you reboot the system you should see an android pirate icon in your app drawer. This app should be called SuperUser.
From here on out, you can use app2sd scripts, unlock your phone if desired, change your recovery image (CWM 5 is recommended), play with custom ROMs, etc.
Be warned that your WARRANTY WILL BE VOIDED and that I TAKE ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE (though if you follow the directions, nothing bad should happen.)
STAY AWAY FROM ROM MANAGER. IT KILLS ACES.
If AceGingerRoot.zip does not work, try this file instead: upd_1.zip
if that one fails use root.zip

I cant put my phone into reovery mode, it keeps turning off instead
With your phone off, push and hold the home button ( square button @ bottom of screen ) then push the power button. This will take you into recovery. The volume button will scroll and the home button will allow you to chose your options.

Turn off your device and leave it for a few seconds.
Power on holding power and home buttons together.
When the Samsung logo appears, let go of power and continue holding home.
You should see a screen with blue text, touch will be disabled. That is recovery mode. When you see this, you can let go of home and scroll with volume up/down. Use there home button to select an option.

I keep trying, ive read the same instructions everywhere and seen videos but it wont do it. ive done it exactly the way its said and tried 20 times, no sucess
The program i used for root is called Unlock Root ( google it ). Its pretty simple to use. Just follow the instructions. It should work. Again its something you do at your own risk, i am not responsible if something goes wrong. Good luck.

HD+ EMMC reboot into recovery

I should know how to do this but I can't seem to get it to work.
I would like to reboot into recovery so I can flash updates.
I have CM 10.2 EMMC installed (with CWM) and it seems to be working fine.
However, when I try to reboot into recovery, it just does a normal reboot.
Even when I use the cwm auto update, it doesnt work.
I tried pressing the home and power button but that doesnt seem to work either.
Did I install it wrong?

Maybe.
How are you rebooting to recovery? With the power off menu?
What is CWM auto update?
And do you have the timing right on the power/n reboot?

The quickboot app does not work for booting to recovery. But "Reboot to recovery" by wikilabs in Play Store is sure fire. If that does not do it, you have installed recovery wrong.

Holding power + home doesn't bring up recovery either?
You'd then need to adb flash the recovery or make an sdcard bootable and put the sdcard recovery on there which would then be started by the device and then you can fix from there. Go with the one you have already available first.

no ive tried holding power + home but all it does is turn off the nook and i have tried using a bootable sd card but the nook doesnt seem to want to boot up on that either. As of using adb i have tried to use it but it will not connect to the device for me to flash anything to it. It may be to my lack of experience using adb or fastboot.

You are holding power too long. Hold power and n together for a few seconds releasing power first followed by releasing n. It should boot to recovery (either stock or CWM).

Your emmc is messed up. I suggest you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and make a new bootable CWM SD per item 1a and then use that to install a plain stock zip from item 6. That should repair the files on emmc and you can start over with CM11.
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using XDA Premium HD app
If you mess up the internal emmc recovery, your nook will behave exactly as described.
(trust me, I've been there).
The cure is to (re)flash a working recovery from a sdcard recovery.
Some people complain that it's hard to get their device to boot from sdcard.
Sometimes it helps to plug in your nook to entice it to boot from sd.

[Q] CM11 - never boots?

I've been using CM11 for quite some time now on my 16gb HD+. I've updated the nightly several times before. The other night I downloaded & installed the latest nightly. ( I think it was cm-11-20140512 from cyanogenmod )
Now I can't get past the loading. When I put in the SD card with the recovery on it, it sits there and hangs on "Cyanoboot universal bootloader". When I don't have the SD card in, it sits there and hangs saying "Nook".
Any suggestions on how to fix this? Is there a way to completely reset it or something?

I had trouble getting a couple of the recent nightly updates to boot, but the most recent nightly update works okay. I had to reinstall a good build from recovery mode, but I have recovery installed on my Nook instead of on the SD card.
Erm... that doesn't really help me since I can't get it to boot into recovery.

Yes, I have. It hangs at the screen that I mentioned before.
When I hold the power button down on the hang it turns the nook off, so I can't "hold the power button down + n, see the CM logo, release power, and hold it again" like it says on how-to guide.

It is sounding like you have a bricked emmc. A bricked emmc will boot neither emmc or an ordinary bootable SD since even that needs some of emmc working. Search for verygreen's noemmc posts and see if you can get it working with his modified files.
