Is there any indicator of charging? When I plug in charging there are no indicator of charging once screen is off. Couple of times, while charging over USB, my phone didn't charge at all, and I didn't know because screen was off and there's no indicator of charging exceps icon on screen.
Anyone had problems with charging over USB?
Your usb ports may not provide enough power for charging. Often the case with laptops, sometimes only specific usb ports provide power.
My USB charger works fine but there is NOT an external indicator because there is NO LEDs

You do not want to keep the screen on while you are sleeping, for example!!!
Try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify&hl=en
Makes use of the LED backlit screen, VERY useful.
Not enough power over USB is not likely, because sometime it does charge, sometime it doesn't. On same USB, I charge HTC Desire without any problem.
And I also think that not having indicator of powering is wrong, because keeping screen on is bad solution. There should be a led light indicator or some other way without keeping screen on.
Sounds like a bad cable but if you can charge your desire then i'll guesss it's not.
Stupid question, but have you tried different cables? Different usb-sockets?
Only problem left I can think of is if your connector on the phone is bad.
Mine charges just fine through USB.
Tried different cables, different USB. But sometimes works, wometimes not, so it bugs me. I would hate if it's bad connection on the phone, but just can't find what it is, since sometimes it works, sometimes not.
It would have been nice, afaik the S III has one. But then that's a design decision by Samsung. If you decide you need that LED, you should have chosen another phone.
For me, it's not that that big an issue...

Using NoLED now and powering over charger, no problems so far

Title says it all...
When you plug in the nook color the screen wont turn off in Cyanogen Mod... This isn't good when you are using <2 amp charging (say 500 mA from standard usb) as the screen uses more power then the charge provides... so it actually drains the battery. Any ideas?
When you say it will not turn off, do you still have a display or just the backlight? When I am charging my nook in standby, I have noticed that the backlight will remain on until I tap the power button. That gives me a black screen

I noticed that recently with one of the later nightlies. I can still power off while charging though, can you?
I put it in sleep, I don't turn it off.
Same problem here. I just turn have to remind myself to manually turn it off whenever I plug it in. Probably some kernel bug or something?
Not a huge problem though. =)

Turn the screen off by hitting the power button.
This is not a bug but a workaround for a kernel bug. We fixed a bug that would cause kernel panic if you let the device sleep while plugged into USB. However, it would still eventually kill ADB so for now I start a partial wake lock when connected to USB.
Just wondering when this might be fixed? Having to worry about the screen being left on when plugged in is a problem for me. I normally charge my Nook from a standard usb. If the screen is on it drains the battery.

When what might be fixed? As Dal just said, this IS the fix for the time being. And it isn't a worry. Just plug it in, and hit the power button; your screen will turn off, and you will be good to go.

The fact it sounded like a temp fix "for the time being" is why I asked about timing. Turning the screen off is fine but I have had one case where the screen turned back on during the night and I woke to a nook that was almost dead even though it was plugged in all night. Even an answer like planned for next RC or for the final release of 7.1 would be helpful.
If there is not fix coming it would be nice to know that too.
I appreciate everything that has been done for the nook and enjoy using it as a tablet.
Using the high capacity cable is not an option. I have tried two in my nook and one would not charge it all and the second was very hard to plug and would sometimes charge it. A standard USB cable has always worked fine. I have read about bad high capacity cables taking out more than one nook so I won't even go there anymore.
Have this been solved somehow?
I have recently mounted my Nook Color on the kitchen wall and it is annoying to manually having to push the power button to turn off the screen, instead of having the screen turn off automatically after a specified time.
is it just my unit or anyone else have this issue? the battery indicator (lock screen and notification bar) shows 99% and just wont go up anymore.
UPDATE 2: Trick - when the phone stop at 99% while charging after a while, unplug the cable and immediately plug the cable back in. The battery indicator now should show "Charged".
UPDATE 1: Seem to be a safety mechanism to protect the battery from overcharged.
Also notice the following issues:
2) battery indicator may show as still charging when cable is already unplugged (only happened 2 times so far)
3) screen on by itself randomly while charging (not always but do happen some times)
4) battery discharging mechanism (to protect from over charge) may go haywire! It may go down from full/ 99% to 90% or less while still charging (may be related to (1) ).
Check your cable while charging. Also check to see if its charging as AC not USB. When it switches to USB, then screen will turn on.

Can't speak for the other 2 issues, but only charging to 99% isn't really a bug. This used to occur on the Galaxy Nexus. More reading here
Battery Charges Only to 99%
You can just ignore it, as it's apparently a way to safeguard the battery. Not sure the exact percentage point at which your battery stats reset, but it will have already occurred at 99%, for sure.

I was charging with AC, and I used a cable which is for charging only (can't transfer data). I tried it again today with the original cable from the Nexus 4 box, and have not noticed the screen turn on by itself again... Suppose it is the cable fault.
As for the stuck charging icon, it happened twice since I got the phone, but have not appeared again. Can't pinpoint the issue.

Ah... this is my first Nexus device. Surprised to find that it is actually a safeguard feature :silly: well as long as it is not faulty I guess I just have to get used to it. Thanks for sharing.
It has to be the dumb usb adaptor that comes with the phone. Mines charges perfectly fine to 100% using an LG AC wall charger I bought.. And even if I restart the phone it stays as charged at 100, USB would be at 99% when I rebooted..

yea my screen turns on randomly sometimes.
also, try this , when u plug in your charger to the wall but dont plug it into the phone , listen to it itll sound like its gonna explode.
Hello guys, sometimes I leave my phone fully discharged and when I connect it to my laptop to charge it, a small light appears next to the USB port, but I don't know the meaning of this light, because I try to turn on the phone but it doesn't, so I have to use a wall charger to charge the phone.
So, what's the meaning of this light ? do you think my phone is really charging when this small light is turned on ?
Thanks for your help guys.

A usb charger has a low charging rate and you would have to leave it on the usb charge for a while to get it charged up enough to boot. If the white light is on it is charging. My phone will act the same way if I plugged it into the usb on my computer and the phone is dead

The few times the light came on for me, it was when I let it go flat, then put it on a charger, but it didn't yet have enough juice to power back up. Once the battery had a few % back in it, the light went off. I think it's just there to let you know that even though it won't turn on yet, it's still charging.
yes, the white LED is there to say something like "hey, i'm not dead, i'm just really, really, really tired, so don't worry and don't send me to assistance!" more or less
Hi everybody...
I have an issue for you...
Yesterday I was using my phone and battery was aboout 40%.
I then took out it from my pocket to switch on the screed and it didn't switch on...it seems the screen was on but black...
- I tried to press the switch button, but nothing...I connected it to my portable battery and nothing too...
- I tried to switch on by press all three phisical buttons and I had a short vibration and nothing else, just another vibration after about 20sec...
That makes me feel that situation was possible to fix...
Of course the battery couldn't be removed and put on again...
Finally I arrived home and I connect to electricity and nothing, I connected to my PC and I reboot the phone by the utility: it works!!
I was worried and I would like to know what happened and if that's possible to repeat again...
Thanks!

This phone doesn't play nice with a lot of portable battery chargers. Try it with the charger that came with it?
A short while after you plug the charger in, it should appear to boot and display only a charging screen. Once it gets to 10% or 15% you can pull the charge cable out, power it on normally and then plug the charge cable back in.
Oddly, Nokia micro USB chargers seem to work well with this phone, if you have one of those spare.
Hi!
thanks for the answer, but you maybe misunderstood, I know about difference between charging from portable charger and normal...it happened with my backflip when it was completely empty...
Maybe I didn't explain well...the phone went "off" alone, but I was sure battery was about 30%...and it didn't work, just the screen on and black...
In my case even normal charger didn't work to reboot phone...
My solution was just to connect to computer and reboot with the tool...
but I don't know what happened, till now it didn't happen again...
p.s. I have a portable charger bought on groupon, that it works, but it's extremely slow...
bye!!

Hi, I bought an HTC One in July, and today, when I woke up, the phone was connected to the charger but it wasn't charging.
When the phone is connected to the charger or computer, it does nothing. When I turn off the phone, it charges but after a few seconds, the screen and led turn off and after another few seconds, it charges again.
And a little dude, where are the humidity sensors?
Thanks!
Up?
Maybe there was a surge (over voltage) and it destroyed the charging port or the charger. Try changing the charger and see where the problem lies.
No humidity sensor in htc one afaik.
check phonearena for sensor details.
Forgot to mention - The led switching off and temp power shows signs of drained out battery.

Could be a loose connection maybe? Try moving the USB plug around a little. It sounds like a hardware issue. Does it do the same with the phone completely off?

I tried changing the charger and moving it, but it doesn´t charge... Completely off it does, yes...
Do you recommend me to call HTC to repare the phone?
Thanks :good:

Yes as it doesn't seem like a software issue, it must be something to do with the phone, USB cable or charger. If you've confirmed the cable and charger work then the next step would be to contact HTC. They should be able to help you out.
