Lagginess on 4.2.1 btu fault or normal ? - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Love my new galaxy camera however the camera ive got seems very laggy when in camera mode .
The camera I tried in the store was the same firmware and very smooth but my camera when panning before I take a pic seems to stick and then release itself again and that's before I take the pic ... also ive noticed the screen lighting goes dark and light when doing the same
If I take a picture then review it the camera sticks also for a couple of seconds before eventually bringing the menu up .
Is this lightly to be a fault or just the way the camera is ?
Im on btu uk version 4.2.1
It does same on memory card and also using the camera memory
Thanks
Chris

Pls need to decide whether to return or keep
48 views someone must be able to tell me if their camera is smooth or laggy when taking pics or reviewing pics

I noticed the lag too with the 4.1.2, there wasn't really any need to update other than the desire to be running the latest and greatest. It's the same with my Note II! the last update I installed seemed to bring more cons without the pros,. I'm planning on down grading both this weekend.

Got a new one from John lewis hopefully 4.1.1 if that's the case
Hopefully sammy will push another update out to get rid of the lag
I use remote view finder which I believe only works with 4.1.2
Thanks

[Q]camera lagging

I don't know how to fix this its a stock d3 phone but any time I open the camera or take a picture there's a huge lag =\ and thoughts on how to fix this?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Install the better blur camera if you are rooted.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App
Root your phone, install mav rom, ATRIX camera, and build prompt changes, then it will be faster than the RAZR's

Its my sisters phone I know nothing about the d3 or the brick chances so without knowing much about it I can't tell her to void her warranty if you see where I'm coming from

Okey dokey, then update to this leaked update, its leaked so its not supported but not rooted, this will make the cam twice as fast {in my opinion}

good suggestions. I also notice my camera is pretty laggy. Will try a new app as well.
It seems a lot of the time is spent focusing. I use Camera 360, which lets me select a spot on the preview to screen to focus beforehand, then it takes photos more quickly. (Not enabled by default.) Not a perfect solution, but it helps.

[Q] Pink spot on photos

With ICS my photos end up with a pink/redish sphere in the middle of the photo.
With GB no!
I have view same problem on others phones (Sansung Note, Galaxy II), all have ICS!!
I think the problem is in google camera's code
Does anyone else experience this?
I experienced that also in cm10 camera but mine is purple color even on focus/out-of-focus
I think it's in the flash because i tried to take photos with and without flash
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
I have downgrade my phone to GB and the photo back to normal, i try to install GB camera on ICS but it's fail.
Of course it will fail we need to wait someone to modified cm10/ics camera
I think it's over exposure because of the flash
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
It could be the heat from the CPU which is causing this.
No, i haven't any problems with gingerbread, it's a bug software!

I have the same issue, and I would agree with you, because the problem is evident with any of the 6 different camera apps I tried, not just a stock ICS camera. It looks like some OS component providing the sensor data to a camera app is buggy. I am not a developer, so I have no idea what part of code that would be, but to my understanding camera apps don't talk to hardware directly...
And, BTW, this issue has nothing to do with flash overexposure, as previously suggested, because it's clearly visible on photos taken without flash...
Edit: Forgot to add one thing that I find a bit weird... In my case, this "pink spot" is only visible on photos taken in average natural light (like on a cloudy day, i.e. not bright). However, if I take pictures in a bright sunlight, or under artificial lighting (incandescent or CFL), or with flash, they turn our great, with no such artefacts. Go figure...
I tried other phones with ics and seems to be a common problem in low light, does not happen with sunlight.
Should compare the code jni between gingerbread and ics, i think.
I'm a Java developer but i'm develop j2ee/flash web applications.

Camera App stops taking photos

If this has been posted already, my apologies! i've been reading in the forums for months now and haven't seen it posted yet unless it came and went down the list faster then i could see it.
so the main issue seems to be, after taking a few pictures over time the camera app just freezes with the LED on like a flashlight and won't take another picture. until i found this google code submission
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=40996
i've always had to reboot my phone just to take pics again. it's been embarassing when in public with friends i've bragged to about this phone... its a good laugh thats for sure, but not what i expect out of this phone. has any of you experienced this? do you guys on custom roms have this issue? is this a google code issue only or are all roms experiencing this issue? i haven't rooted yet as i always wanted to take updates automatically and stay up to date, but with this camera issue i'm in the process of rooting right this minute but want to make sure its worth my hassle.
discuss.
I've had this issue as well. It only seems to affect the stock app though as other camera apps continue to function. A reboot is the only way is been able to fix this bug.

It happened to me for the first time on New Year's Eve but happened three times. The app reset when I either closed it from the recent apps list or switched to video camera and then back to regular camera. Not sure what caused it and hasn't happened since.

So what you're trying to say is whenever you try to repetitively take photo, camera freezes with led light on? Never happened to me. Then again, I barely use my camera
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I've had this happen as well, although I don't think I needed to reboot, just closed the app and it stopped. But I've had this happen several times, not recently though. I'm very disappointed with the camera on this thing, it seems to take lack luster photos and the app is very fritzy and the rotation animation awful, as well as this occasional glitch.
It's a bug and has been reported. You can star it here:

that's exactly what I'm saying. I take a lot of pics especially when we go out. it does it all the time... it just freezes with the led stuck in. I can hit home but when I reopen it and take a pic it gets stuck in again. I just read I can switch to video and back and it should work, but that's annoying. my girlfriends gnex just works and she always laughs at me when it happens.
question, does this happen on anyone's rooted nexus with custom rom?

Happens to me all the time. The camera app on here is pretty disappointing. I don't get it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I just got it to produce that problem and I see what you mean by annoying. One easy solution that I heard people using is using a third party camera app. Try a free camera app and tell us how it goes. Tried to reproduce the problem with camera zoom fx and couldn't do it. Also I believe this is a problem with terrible auto focus of nexus 4. Because when this happens the focus ring looks like as if it's still trying to focus into a object. Hopefully this gets fixed with software update. Cheers
BTW, using a rooted stock nexus 4 with Franco kernel and camera mod that'll increase the quality of the image and video.

Me too and I've now "Starred" the bug.
Hopefully everyone here has too so it gets noticed by Google.
Same issue. Experienced it for the first time on New Year's Eve. Both my Nexus 4 and my wife's had the same thing happen. Only happened to mine once. Happened to hers about 3 or 4 times.
Used the camera the most on New Year's compared to any other time so that's possibly why I never experienced it until then.
Happened twice when asking strangers to take pics of us too, which was extremely annoying and embarrassing.
The LED flash stays on and you can't take any pics. Closing the app and swiping it from recents and reopening does nothing. The same thing will happen on the next try. Need to reboot the phone. It's the only fix.
My phone did this on new years eve too.

Happened the same to me more then once. I don't use the camera that much but when I really need it doesn't work.
This is embarrassing when everyone around you is taking pics with their iPhone.
Had numerous android phones before and never had one 100% reliable.

Had this issue also!
BTW while messing around just now, I got it to freeze , but noticed it was out if focus , so I moved it around and it eventually took!

Try the Camera Zoom FX app. When I say amazing control, I mean AMAZING control of the camera. ISO, tap to focus and shoot, programmable hardware buttons for shutter/gallery etc...
The ability to control ISO means you can get rid of noise for stills/landscapes in almost any light. It works great. Furthermore, the pictures appear to be better from this app. When I started the app, I played around with it and thought "hey this is great, I have control over each shot, but the quality of the picture in auto mode appears the same as stock." Then I found in somewhat hidden "All Settings" menu a SAVE menu which was defaulted to 85% for jpeg output. I put it on 100% output and the pics look very good if not better than stock. The hardware is decent in this thing so the pics should be good. Take a look at the app and try it out for a few minutes to test it.
Disclosure: I have NO financial or personal interest in the company or developer of this app. But I do have a personal interest in photography.

Need a detailed stock JB review

I am among those who waitrd and shouted so much about this upcoming JB.
I never tried a leak version and waited for the official release. Now that there are 3 baseband versions of official stock JB. I flashed it but didnt like it much. I like the older GB and ICS UI. The new UI is making my screen look small.
The only one thing i like in the new update is the multi window. I as told that spen will be better in this update but my spen is way better on ics. I can occassionally feel a lag and ram usage is always on the higher side, which makes me wonder if the new update is worth having.
Cant we just port the desired feature on our ics. Since the source code for the JB is out.
I want u people who are using stock JB to share their experience with the update

I love it, its amazing how battery life is saved with squeaky save clean install, butter not as nexus but still ok, phonecall/reception uncompromized for my unit. Exynos bug still there.
New features once used to it awesome. for the rest read entire thread above.

I think it's going to be a case of 'lets hope newer updates will help' mine is pretty sluggish too, but I've noticed a few new firmwares appear on Samsung-updates with big jumps in the change lists, so I'm gonna give one of them a go.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
Cool, would you let's know if any of them are good
So far so good.
Well one thing is fixed, for me at least, it doesn't change the storage location on boot up now!
Maybe a placebo, but the whole thing seems loads more responsive.
The camera firmware got updated too, not sure what difference the changes will have made, as I've not used it in anger since updating it.
BTW, The one I flashed was the Australian version.
