I currently own a Galaxy Nexus, and I'm thinking about upgrading to the Xperia T (or TX rather, cheaper and available now in NY). I'm just trying to get some opinions on if this is a smart upgrade.
Biggest problem with my Nexus is the screen... its not great. I can deal with the lack of development on the Xperia T.... (more time for life without flashing roms)
Love the camera on the T... Galaxy Nexus not so much.. Xperia should also be better to hold in my hand...
Any opinions, thoughts? Should I stick with my Nexus?
I suggest upgrading!
Xperia T is incomparable faster phone, with great stability and very nice display (in sunlight readable).
And I know what I am saying, after one month of GN usage.
I actually like the Sony skin and it doesn't change too much so I don't care much about custom roms at this point.
I like the T a lot more, but that's up to you if you wanna upgrade
Sent from my Xperia T
I just bought my Xperia T tonight and already I like it way more than my HTC One X. I had the GN before the HOX and loved the GN for it's ease of flashing and modding. It was also comfortable in the hand but the screen and camera really let it down.
I think the XpT will be a great upgrade.
My vote? Go for it!
Can one of you guys please tell me if you can disable the battery percentage? It might be a dealbreaker for me, believe it or not.
The Xperia T has an LCD screen and the text on it are crisp and clear. It could stand to be a bit brighter but for battery conservation purposes I like to keep mine on 50% brightness so that really doesn't affect me all too much.
I think development on the Xperia T could rival that of the SIII but since the T's just come out and the SIII has been out for months now it's just going to take a little bit of time. The same can be said on the accessory front too!
As for OS Sony has promised Jelly Bean soon after launch but who knows when that will be, only that it will come eventually.
As for handling, the Xperia T feels very well made but if you are at all familiar with Sony products then you won't need any explanation. But the rubber matte back cover is indeed a nice touch. I was at first put off by the fake in store models since they felt way more rubbery but the real phone feels way more smooth. Like an expensive screwdriver's handle. Coming from a Nexus you probably prefer stock Android but Sony's skin is very light and non-intrusive, unlike Touchwiz, and the abundance of black makes it look much more elegant and mature. Rather suited towards a businessman than compared to say Sense or Touchwiz.
And if all that hasn't convinced you of the T then maybe James Bond will in the upcoming film, Skyfall. Who could argue with a secret agent with a license to kill?
Thank you for that detailed reply, I really do appreciate it! I love the look of this device, love the fact that it is a bit smaller (will feel better in my hands), and I've never had a Sony phone, so I'm looking forward to a change.
Can you tell me if you can disable the battery percentage in the status bar please?
Thanks

I looked everywhere but I cannot find an option to remove it.
I didn't see a way to remove the percentage on the stock ROM. CM10 has the option though I'm sure.

Just thought I'd start this thread as I think the Xperia Z may be being discontinued, at least for the time being.
I bought a new Xperia Z handset in May. I made a clear choice between this and the Samsung S4, mainly for two reasons. The first being the overall design. It looks a much nicer/sexier phone. The second being the water resistance. I use the phone in the bath and I go fishing a lot. Seemed an obvious choice really.
When I first started using the phone, everything worked perfectly fine and I was very happy with my purchase. Except for one thing. I was experiencing the WiFi drop out problem. If I was in my living room (where my WiFi router is) it connected without issue. If I tried in other rooms, I would get a low connection and it would drop in and out. This bug has been well documented over several forums (without any response from Sony unsurprisingly), so I was a little reassured that it was not my phone specific issue, and a lot of people stating that it will likely be resolved with firmware updated. Two updates later and I was still having the issue.
I decided to take the phone back to Argos (where I purchased it) to see if I could get a replacement and hope that it would not have the issue. They were quite happy to replace it on the grounds that it is a faulty phone, however they didn't have any in at this particular store. The guy done a search and found one (and only one) in a store some 50 miles away. I asked if they could order one in for me, so he had a look and he said they can no longer get any. I thought this was very odd. A store chain the size of Argos and they can no longer get a top of the range phone only released 6 months or so ago? I asked if they knew a reason why, he said he didn't but if the error I'm experiencing is common and they have had a load returned then Argos may have chosen to no longer stock them.
This does not bode well for Sony at all. If Argos are taking this stance then I would not be surprised to see other outlets do the same.
I was left with a choice to either carry on with the phone and hope that at some point in the future the bug will be resolved, downgrade to another model, get my money back or pay the extra and get an S4. I decided to go with the S4, a decision I was not entirely happy with as, other than the WiFi bug, I was very happy with the Xperia Z, but I could not continue getting frustrated with the WiFi dropping out.
For those interested in the differences between the two phones, from an end users perspective and not a techno guru reviewer, there are a lot of similarities between the two. There are obviously pros and cons for each. The S4 is a lot lighter, and the external speaker is fantastic. It's design is a little uglier and the rear case is very slippery. The Xperia Z just looks nicer, looks less like a toy. They're just as responsive as each other, both take great photos/videos. The Xperia Z keyboard is much better than the S4, but that may be me needing to get used to it.
Given the choice, if the WiFi problem wasn't prevalent, I would definitely have the Xperia Z back. Hopefully Sony will pull there socks up.
maybe the rumor about a refresh with S800 processor and triluminos screen is true then.
Congrats on your new S4...

xperia z is not discontinued (confirmed with sony executive), funny you judged that. though x-reality for mobile is coming for xperia z

i think this SteveJustice is probably a samsung bot desperately to attract sales as clearly sony is dominating and samsung s4 having a hard time getting sales now.

What? I gave pros and cons for both devices, and clearly stated that had I not had the problems with my Xperia Z then I would still have it. Not to mention I went to the store to get a replacement, not a different phone.
Even if the phone isn't being discontinued, it still begs the question as to why Argos are not getting any more in.
And where did you speak to this Sony executive by the way? Just happened to be passing in the street?
I have both the S4 and Xperia Z and your right they are very similar to each other and both have their pros and cons and let me just give a short of what I think are cons of the xperia Z compared to the S4 and funnily enough they are mostly to do with volume.
The Z speaker is lower in volume than s4, headphone volume is slightly lower and so is earpiece volume, S4 is a bit clearer aswell in earpiece, Z wifi is weaker and obviously due to a smaller battery, battery doesn't last as long. Camera/video I would say the S4 edges it but not by much
The Z is better to look at and and im sorry all those saying the screen on the Z is rubbish need to go to their opticians as the screen on the Z looks much sharper and better looking than the S4, not as good as the one on the HTC One but not far off, also the Z looks better than the S4 not that the S4 is ugly as I love the look of the S4 too, the Zs UI and keyboard etc are all better, the Z is just as smooth as the s4 if not smoother. TBH if the speaker was louder, earpiece was louder and audio volume was louder and wifi signal strength was stronger I would say the Z is the best phone on the market atm. The Z has restored my faith in sony as when I had the xperia S and T last year I wasn't happy atall.

I have a XZ and the wife a S4 and tbh there isn't much between the two.
Screen: Alot of song and dance is made about the samoled 1080p panel, and its obvious why the blacks are amazing but that's at the cost of the whites which are quite common on webpages (xz wins in whites). The viewing angles are better on the S4 although not as much as the reviews seemed to make out, one area where the XZ is better is the visibility in sunlight.
Winner: Close call id give it to the S4 sometimes colours seem a bit too saturated with XZ but not much in it overall.
Sound: The loudspeaker on the S4 rapes the XZ due to the XZ's waterproof ability. In call is slightly louder on the S4 but not by much, the S3 was amazing for in call volume.
Winner: S4 by a mile
Camera: Both use the same chip but different software is implemented and some hardware is different I believe (im no expert so could be wrong).
Anyway the XZ originally was a bit slow but with the latest update is on par with the S4 if not better, just took two pictures (night here in England) and the XZ was clearly better (both on auto, flash off). (uploaded both pics to pc for analysis)
Winner: Close call was about to say the XZ due to my rather short samples but im not a expert and reviewers praise the S4 so Id say a draw.
Battery: Both phones used differently so hard to compare. Depends on alot of variables such as area used, syncs, etc. I can't do a proper review of it but my amateur opinion says the S4 is better, more screen time but that could be because the wife is mostly on wifi at home. Anyway there's not a great deal if the S4 is better its not by more then 10%,
Winner: S4
Design: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so not much too say there, material wise though the XZ is better and it feels more solid. The S4 has the advantage of removable battery and is more comfortable to use in the hand. Then again the XZ is dust and water proof and has soft keys.
Winner: XZ
Software: Id say stock xperia is definitely better then stock touchwiz based on design but then again that's user preference. I love the smart stay feature in touchwiz though and the vibrate when you pick up for messages/put phone to head to call from messages.
Xperia has the Bravia Engine though and as we mostly view photos on our phone these days that's a neat trick. Overall both are running 4.22 and rock solid so not much in it.
Winner: Draw.
Overall score: S4 wins 3. XZ 1. And 2 draws.
Conclusion: Both great phones and not much too seperate them, go check them out in store before you buy either and see which one you prefer. At the same time check out the HTC One...

Great honest comparison mate
You forgot performance , s4 wins here thx to s600 ( specifically gaming )
Battery is much better since s4 gets average 4:30/5 hrs screen time. While xz barely makes it 3:30.
Anyway these 2 vs one are pretty much weaker in every aspect.
Speakers ate better and louder then on both
Headphones are also better with more quality then on both , also louder.
Screen is better by much then on both. ( tho amoled has better blacks ) also better viewing angle , brighter , and better sunlight visibility.
System speed is much better then on both. ( even faster then n4 on 4.3 )
Design .. I'd say only xz and one are pretty , I'd call this one personal preference.
Build quality .. I guess we agree aluminum is more premium ( + serves as a heat sink so one is much cooler then both )
Camera is actually better then on xz after the recent updates both in day light and dark , also the camera is much snappier then both , as for video neither comes close to one thx to the ois and hdr mics
Speaker for calls is also better , again stereo and it's very loud and clear.
Front camera is also better then on both + wide angle
Battery is on par with s4 if not better , at least in my case I perform much better then the cousins s4. , the other cousin with xz usually gets around 2:50/ 3:20 screen time. outside. While my average is 6 hrs screen time with heavier usage .
I guess this would be my 2 cents.
Btw my cousins have s4 and xz while my friend has n4 , pretty much surrounded with mobile geeks lol. So this comes from the tests I made with them , if you guys need some screen shots , or pic samples lemme know.

Having had the HTC one earlier in the year, three things i disagree on are
1) audio is actually better on the s4, but the HTC one is louder
2) battery life on HTC is not better than S4 and i certianly wouldnt call it close either especially if we include standby time though it is better than the xperia z.
3) as for looks i really do not like the fact that the One has the htc sign inbetween the buttons i think thats ugly, i think all three phones look good, if i was to choose an order it would be XZ, S4 then One.
The main reasons for getting the s4 and selling the one was better battery and memory card slot as i ran out of memory on the one and i seriously hope htc change this as 25gb isnt enough. Also while the one is loud i feel it lacks the bass of the s4 and XZ, also i find the custom eqaulizers better than simply beats on or off
OK, so at my work we get a new phone every 18 months. I got the HTC One X last year, it got stolen 3 months ago and I got the newer HTC One on insurance. I now get a new free phone and can choose between all the new models, but I've narrowed it down to another One or the Z1 (my partner gets the old One I currently have).
My questions to Z1 owners:
*It's big. I can use the One comfortably with one hand, is this possible with the Z1?
*The camera on the One is decent, but not brilliant, are you happy with the Z1 camera?
*I LOVE the screen on my One, is the Z1 screen good enough in sunlight, black levels etc.? Some of the reviews remark it's not that great.
*Is the battery very good? I'm happy with the One battery, but wouldn't mind even better battery.
So, basically I'm very happy with my HTC One, which is by far the best phone I've owned, and feel bad not rewarding HTC by showing brand loyalty, but the upgraded chip and camera on the Z1 and the waterproof body are enticing, but the size seems daunting.
Any thoughts?

As a previous owner of the HTC One and current owner of the Z1...
It's manageble with one hand, and I don;t have large hands, but not always very comfortable (hard to hold a decent grip when reaching for certain parts).
Overall pretty happy with the camera, but it has way more potential. But for the the HTC One camera was just too limited, 4MP was small... but only 3MP with certain settings was too small. The Z1 camera is fast, handles lower light well, etc. Just make sure to use manual mode for now.
Z1 Screen is not as nice as the One screen (as far as I'm concerned). The One screen is colder, which I like more, and more bright/speaking. The Z1 screen is warmer, perhaps more realistic. Then again, after only using the Z1 for a while I'm not bothered with it anymore... I just notice it right away in a direct comparison.
Define good battery, I can easily manage 2 days with moderate use. Dunno if it's as good as the HTC one (been a while) but not much worse anyway. ANd that also can improve with future updates.
All in all... Main reason for me to move away from the HTC one:
* Screen Size
* Camera
What I miss most about the One:
* Speakers
* Screen at times/formfactor/build... More a combination of these.
But no regrets at all switching to the Z1!
One was my previous phone and now I'm happy about my z1. In almost every aspect Sony is better, but HTC ONE has brilliant, absolutely brilliant audio output on headphones comparing to s4 or z1

Are you talking about Beats audio, or just the general sound quality?
No, beats audio it's just a compressor and some EQ preset. I was talking about pure audio output spec., its power and clarity.
I currently have both phones but the HTC One is up on Ebay ready to sell.
Size: The HTC One is comfortable to use with one hand, the Z1 is possible but it really isn't comfortable. I do use it one handed just fine so it isn't so much a hindrance but it really isnt comfortable in my average sized hands.
Camera: Mixed bag. If I use manual mode tweak the settings and get things just right, I get a better picture from the Z1. But it does take a bit of setup, the beauty of the One is that you can just launch the camera, click the photo and you have a great looking picture. So personally I prefer the HTC One camera (simply because most of the shots I want to take have passed by the time I have set the Z1 up, so I either have to put up with a crappy superior auto shot, or miss the chance to take the picture entirely!). However, I would hope the superior auto on the Z1 will get better with updates and eventually (because the hardware is superior on the Z1) the auto shots will be better than the One's auto shots. The Zoe and video highlight functionality is unrivaled imo though. Can't find anything that does what that can do as easily and as well.
Personally, I prefer the screen on the HTC One though I can't really pinpoint why. But the Z1 screen is good enough that I don't really care.
The battery is far better on the Z1. I've recently been doing battery tests on them both and after a day of web browsing, 3g movie streaming, music listening and plenty of messaging, the One will die when the Z1 is at about 35%. Bear in mind this was not done in any sort of scientific way. I was using each phone on consecutive days and trying to do the same sort of stuff with them both (using GSAM battery monitor to compare that id had the screen and the various apps on for roughly the same amount of time).
In response to drakexpl, I've found the Z1 to have slightly better sound quality (through headphones) than the One. I use just bass boost eq on both (beats always off on the One), with a decent set of iems and I just find the Z1 to be more vibrant and punchy. I'm no audiophile though.
Anyway that's my input. The HTC One is a fantastic phone and I will miss the external speaker goodness, blinkfeed and especially the Zoe/Highlight functionality, but overall I feel the Z1 is a better phone (but it was a close call as to which one I would sell).
I've owned (short time) Htc one and now have z1, was a good phone but didn't do anything for me. Battery life was not good. But the sound quality was the best of any phone I've had. Thought the speakers would be louder though. But prefer z1.

Not sure of your battery life reference if that was the HTC or Z1, because the battery life on mine is pretty great.
Sound quality with walkman app blows any phone I have previously had out of the water Including the HTC Sensation XE (first beats audio).
The Z1 is soooooo fast and smooth.
I really like the size and shape of it, had the Z and that phone always felt like it was going to fall out of my hand due to the square shape.
Camera is very good for a point and shoot in terms of quality of photos, and higher ISO (say 800) is much better than most point and shoots.
Micro SD Slot, was the reason I jumped ship from HTC to Sony.
My only comment is you may be disappointed with the screen coming from what I would classify as one of the best screens out there. The Sony screen is very good, but I feel the HTC One screens are superb.

I was talking about the HTC One battery, I just go off work use, was nearly flat and needing charger by home time coming home having to put it straight on charge, If I was going out after work not much time to charge it, After using Note 2 and S4 the Z1 battery life is great yes I use stamina mode (and Greenify) and did on the HTC One, (not Greenify)
HTC one was a good phone just not for me, but it did convert me to prefer glass touch buttons from Samsung plastic ones!

I'm a bit worried when I read this. Was this just a bad pre-production model they got, or is that representative?

Don't worry too much about this, I've been streaming podcasts all day at work, bit of youtube at breaks few texts, couple of calls, just got in and have about 50% battery left.
well i lost my xperia zl and need a new primary phone quite urgently...cant decide between xperia t and sp (yes in a bit of tight budget)
what am basically after right now is the display and battery life...also how does the xperia t perform as compared to sp ..is it very noticable? (tbh i would prefer a little low graphic detail than overheating and throttling)
my pros for t :
Roms i like are available
way better deign
cheaper
worries about t:
performance
battery
any suggestion is appreciated
If I were you I would take a look at the Motorola moto g. It has a nice screen in my opinion and battery life is great. It performs better than my T and it has android 4.4. The only con is the camera which is kind of bad. I don't know about rom development for the moto g but I assume there's quite a lot. And best of all, it's cheap!

Well moto g has no sd slot
and am getting the t at almost same price How is the speaker performance in t?
In my opinion the speaker in the xperia t is amazing. I had a HTC HD 7 and compared to the the speaker was crap...

Talking about battery life on screen time is about 4-4:30 hours with normal behaviour I'm getting through the day but struggle in the evening when battery is low
If I were you I would wait a bit and see what is coming in the next months in the middle price segment because T is would not be my first choice ( bought it because of the price as well and the bad camera in the moto g and missing sd slot) BTW what bugs me most is this unbelievably tiny notification led... Had an XPERIA S and that one you could actually see from all perspectives, the one from XT I'd hardly to notice when looking at it directly... :'( why the hell Sony

Talking about battery life on screen time is about 4-4:30 hours with normal behaviour I'm getting through the day but struggle in the evening when battery is low
If I were you I would wait a bit and see what is coming in the next months in the middle price segment because T is would not be my first choice ( bought it because of the price as well and the bad camera in the moto g and missing sd slot) BTW what bugs me most is this unbelievably tiny notification led... about the notifications..well one can always use a active display app (dynamic notifications is pretty good) or well omni rom

well i lost my xperia zl and need a new primary phone quite urgently...cant decide between xperia t and sp (yes in a bit of tight budget)
what am basically after right now is the display and battery life...also how does the xperia t perform as compared to sp ..is it very noticable? (tbh i would prefer a little low graphic detail than overheating and throttling)
my pros for t :
Roms i like are available
way better deign
cheaper
worries about t:
performance
battery
any suggestion is appreciated

My opinion is that T is a better phone than SP even though SP has a higher battery and slightly higher processor.
The T has a much better build quality than the SP and the design of T makes it easier to hold and use than SP.
SP does have the nice illumination bar but then it could be too bright at night or even stand out too much in a office environment, where the subtle notification led of T is better. I also hated the size at first but when you get used to the phone, you know which spot you need to focus on to see if it is blinking.
Performance might differ to individuals as it is dependant on how many apps you have.
Battery wise, I've gone from 100% to 0% in just over 4 hours with constant screen on usage on varying phone signals (being on train...).
One issue with my T is that others do not hear me well on the other end if I speak softly and I've narrowed it down to the actual microphone on phone.
Thanks Guys
ive placed my order for the T ...should get my device in a week
Good choice going for T. It's a well rounded device. I have it for over an year now and had no major problems with it.

How much do you want to spent? The XZ is a good phone, but if you're happy with your S3 there's no need to upgrade...
Also the XZ has become old.... if you're able to spend more, take the XZ2
The benchmarks say that Z is definetely faster and it is.
I had both
And personally i would say i like the XperiaZ a lot better than the SGS3.
The overall-look and feel is just amazing, the SGS3 in comparence felt cheap, and i really really hated the blue-ish screen of the SGS3,
although overall it had better viewing angles than the XperiaZ.
Camera: In dark conditions be it in video or picture-mode, the SGS3 surpasses the XperiaZ, in daylight the Camera of the Xperia-Z is better, except for Macro-Shots, those are better on the SGS3 too.
Sound: The sound that the microphone of the XperiaZ records (videos, telephone) is really crystal-clear compared to the SGS3 one.
The Headset/In-Ears are better on the Sony as usual, but even with other/better (Sennheiser/Audiotechnica/AKG)-Headphones the sound out of the Headphone-Jack of the XperiaZ is better than that of the SGS3
The Buildin-Speakers therefore are better/louder on the SGS3.
If you should purchase the XperiaZ is really up to you, in my location they are actually really cheap to get, so probably yea.
Although the Xperia Z1 Compact might be a better upgrade.
The Z1-Compact has a lot better Battery-Life a better processor and would be overall (in my opinion) the best upgrade, its not as expensive as the Z1/Z2 but on the other hand has superior hardware and battery-life compared to the XperiaZ.
But its really your decision, i can't make a decision for you
Hope it helped.
as a almost two month user of xperia z I can say one think: Buy it if you gonna use it as a nice looking phone(call, sms, social). For anything else forget about z, why? because of battery. so what if its fast? so what if it can run any game or app, battery on z is just most hilarious joke i've seen for past few years of my phones.
I love my xperia z, its look amazing, its durable, screen is very good and its fast but when you unplug it from charger at 7:00 you gonna need it after... 5h of typical use(LTE internet, NFC, camera). Better buy z1 compact or z2... sad but true, and looking at android 4.4 and how it thread batteries on others phones(not only sony) I think that 4.4 update for z gonna be major flop for battery...
Try Xperia z and other varians. Its best smartphone in the world (of course for me)
sorry for bad english. i hope you understand what i mean..
