How much do you want to spent? The XZ is a good phone, but if you're happy with your S3 there's no need to upgrade...
Also the XZ has become old.... if you're able to spend more, take the XZ2

The benchmarks say that Z is definetely faster and it is.

I had both
And personally i would say i like the XperiaZ a lot better than the SGS3.
The overall-look and feel is just amazing, the SGS3 in comparence felt cheap, and i really really hated the blue-ish screen of the SGS3,
although overall it had better viewing angles than the XperiaZ.
Camera: In dark conditions be it in video or picture-mode, the SGS3 surpasses the XperiaZ, in daylight the Camera of the Xperia-Z is better, except for Macro-Shots, those are better on the SGS3 too.
Sound: The sound that the microphone of the XperiaZ records (videos, telephone) is really crystal-clear compared to the SGS3 one.
The Headset/In-Ears are better on the Sony as usual, but even with other/better (Sennheiser/Audiotechnica/AKG)-Headphones the sound out of the Headphone-Jack of the XperiaZ is better than that of the SGS3
The Buildin-Speakers therefore are better/louder on the SGS3.
If you should purchase the XperiaZ is really up to you, in my location they are actually really cheap to get, so probably yea.
Although the Xperia Z1 Compact might be a better upgrade.
The Z1-Compact has a lot better Battery-Life a better processor and would be overall (in my opinion) the best upgrade, its not as expensive as the Z1/Z2 but on the other hand has superior hardware and battery-life compared to the XperiaZ.
But its really your decision, i can't make a decision for you
Hope it helped.

as a almost two month user of xperia z I can say one think: Buy it if you gonna use it as a nice looking phone(call, sms, social). For anything else forget about z, why? because of battery. so what if its fast? so what if it can run any game or app, battery on z is just most hilarious joke i've seen for past few years of my phones.
I love my xperia z, its look amazing, its durable, screen is very good and its fast but when you unplug it from charger at 7:00 you gonna need it after... 5h of typical use(LTE internet, NFC, camera). Better buy z1 compact or z2... sad but true, and looking at android 4.4 and how it thread batteries on others phones(not only sony) I think that 4.4 update for z gonna be major flop for battery...

Try Xperia z and other varians. Its best smartphone in the world (of course for me)
sorry for bad english. i hope you understand what i mean..

[Q] Xperia SP Users, please I need your suggestion on buying SP

Hello everybody,
Actually I was planning to purchase new xperia device... according to my budget, I thought of going for Xperia SP.
The reason for this thread is .. Can I go for SP as I am getting it in 19000 INR from ebay.in.. It is worth to buy or should i go for ZR which is 8000 INR more than SP price..
Will SP be future proof for atleast a year and will it Honami style 4.3 update. or just a common 4.3 update.
What do you think guys please.. suggest me!!!
and about considering the problems SP users are facing.
I don't Know how much is this in €. But SP is a really good choice! Buy the SP!
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Test the Camera before by XSP. Picture size and quality is no more up to date. Not poor, but other devices (XS or HTC one) make better pictures. All other works great.
Value for money phone
Since I own a Xperia SP for more than 2 months now, following are my impressions. Since I am being critical I'll list negatives first.
Negatives:
Xperia SP's biggest weakness is its camera. Pictures in low light are very bad for its price... pictures in day light are ok, but nothing too good. Pictures taken by SP have more noise in them. So over all SP's camera is very much worse as compared to, say, Galaxy S3's.
The screen is not as good as Super Amoled screens of Samsung's Galaxy series or HTC's & LG's IPS LCD. However, while indoors you will not have any issue. While outdoors, the screen is a bit reflective but is still manageable. I haven't faced any other display issue till now.
Wi-fi reception is truly a bit weaker than other phones, but the internet speed is not affected. Only range is lesser.
Some people have encountered the touch issue when the phone is kept on a table & not in your palm. Some people have also faced a bit of trouble while the phone is plugged in for charging via AC adapter. However, I haven't faced any of these issues.
Positives:
The best part about SP is its performance. Snapdragon S4 Pro is simply a beast and Adreno 320 GPU blows the competition out of water. Current flagships of various brands like Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro all have the same GPU.
SP has 1 GB RAM, which although is not equivalent to these flagships, is enough even for the heaviest of games/apps available in market. However, real racing 3 has some issues. Other games run very well.
Another plus point of SP is its build quality & design. It doesn't look cheap like Samsung GS3 or GS4. The illumination bar at the bottom is a very nice aspect of the design.
The battery performance of SP is one of the better ones.
When used with Bravia Engine 2, the display is awesome while indoors. It is sufficiently bright.
PRICE!!! A total value for money.
So, keeping all these in mind I would suggest:
If you are too much in cell phone photography, explore other mobiles. Galaxy S3 could be good choice in that case. Glaxy S4 mini and Nexus 4 are also there. However, all these cost slightly more than SP.
If 20K is your budget, then go for SP. You won't find a better phone at that price.
If you don't want even slightest of performance issue, surety of many more updates & have the extra budget then you can also give Xperia ZR a serious thought. It has a faster processor, more RAM & better camera in addition to being dust & waterproof. Battery life of ZR is even better than SP's.
Pretty much agree with the post from the_helix.
I think Sony have been clever with this device, they have taken away the things that average/practical users don't really care about.
Do you really need 400+ PPI, 1080p screen, a big internal memory if there's space for a memory card, more RAM etc? They have instead made sure that the processor is top notch, given it 4G and NFC - so you get almost flagship performance at half the price.
Yes some things could be better (there is always something to complain about - the S4 and HTC One are not immune from this either), but with a bigger screen and more robust build than the competition in this price range (the mini S4 and mini HTC One) I think this is the best mid-range phone on the market.
I think it's future proof - but within reason, some games developers always push the boundaries and make software that will only run really well on top devices. I think/hope it will see the next iteration of Android - is it really going to be called kit-kat?
hi,
purchased today my xperia sp in ebay.in. waiting for delivery. so now i being here for have a glance. iam biggest fan of sony till now i used four mobiles from sony, ( J230i, w810, x8, mini pro). and this is my fifth from sony. hope this mobile will meet my expectations. will join u later guys after getting my sp in hands. cheers!

should i get the Z or Z1?

im upgrading from the S3 to a Z1 this holiday season, mainly because of the water proofing. Before my S3 i had a SE Xperia Arc S and i miss the quality of Sony. My wife on the other hand has an Xperia U and she wants a bigger phone, her favourite colour is purple and the only phones Sony has in purple are the Z and Z1.
the Xperia Z is at a reasonable price right now and has just about all the great features as the Z1, but is there anything that im missing that are different with the two phones? I really dont want her to be disappointed with the Z when she see's my Z1 is better, she's not a very tech person, will she notice any differences compared to my soon to be Z1?
The Z1 is about 20% faster then the Z.
There is no flap to cover the headphone jack on the Z1, so if you like to listen a lot of music with headphones I would suggest you go for the Z1.
The water proofiness is also a tad better on the Z1

I found it pretty annoying, that is why I bought the Z1 when it came out and did my Z away.
And I love the magnetic charger, I never have to open any flap anymore
I had the Z, had to get it repaired twice and finally returned it because the back glass kept coming unglued. I may have been unfortunate and gotten a bad device (and then bad repairs I guess) but it is a widespread issue with that device (see here) so keep that in mind if you decide to get that one.
The Xperia Z1 feels much more sturdy than the Z and it features longer battery life even though it's faster.
The purple on the Xperia Z looks nicer than the purple on the Xperia Z1 though
well , the Z1 has much faster CPU , better Camera , louder speaker , better display , and the most important thing that u'll really miss it even if u compare with the S3 is the 3000mAh battery !
the Z has got a bad battery , however , its thinner and lighter .

I wouldn't necessarily say the Xperia Z has a bad battery, but the Xperia Z1 has certainly got a better one. The Xperia Z is fast enough for 90% of people, and while I notice the difference, it's not like I perceive it as some ridiculous speed boost. Same with the display, the Xperia Z is pretty much on par with the Xperia Z1 I think, perhaps the colours are a little clearer in the Z1, but the Xperia Z is by no means a bad device.
Loudspeaker and camera are much better on the Z1.
Both are good choices, providing you don't get any trouble with the back glass on the Xperia Z that is.

I was an Xperia Z owner yes, now I have the Xperia Z1, and I'm telling you that for the price difference currently between the two devices (presuming you get a good Z where the back glass doesn't fall off) it is a tough call if you're not a mobile phone enthusiast.
The Snapdragon S4 (APQ8064: Krait 200) is still a very good processor which is why they based the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974: Krait 400) on the same platform. They actually are very similar, the 800 is just clocked faster, has better power management, better WLAN, better graphics, USB3 and better image processing. Honestly both provide fluid UIs and a very good user experience.

hmm the only thing that i can agree with you is the price , the SD S4 CPU is an end of generation , the architecture are different bro ! you comparison is not fair because the S4 Pro cant even rich the Snapdragon 600 ! it only beat the Snapdragon 200 .

The S4 Pro (Cortex-A9 with Adreno 320) is better than 200 and 400 (as those are Cortex-A7 based and feature at best Adreno 305 graphics), not 600 or 800.
But that isn't my point. My point is that S4 Pro is good enough. We don't need anything faster.
Also the Snapdragon 600 and 800 do not feature true Cortex-A15 processors if that is what you were referring to when you said they are different architectures. They borrow some power saving innovations (by increasing efficiency) from A15 sure, but they are mostly A9's, not true A15.

Nexus 5 or Xperia Z

Hi
I've an opportunity to trade my Xperia Z for a Nexus 5. What do you guys think?
The only reason I'm even considering this is due to the fast updates of android from google. My carrier here in canada is way too slow.. We were on 4.1 all these days ..just released 4.3 today..
What are the pros and cons?
I really like the look of my Xperia Z though..

yes you should do this !
the n5 is great. However i personally will get the moto x as a seco dary device as i don't need that much power but rather a compact solid phone.
Gesendet von meinem C6603 mit Tapatalk
The Nexus 5 has a faster CPU/GPU indeed, but the Xperia Z has better cameras, an SD card slot, an FM radio and better build quality / premium materials. It also depends on how much you like the Sony experience, with exclusive Sony features (Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, WALKMAN, PlayStation Mobile, DUALSHOCK 3 support, Clear Phase and xLOUD audio, Smart Social Camera, My Xperia, etc.) and a more polished user interface.
I believe the Nexus has is and has always been a developer oriented device. While the Xperia Z is more consumer-media oriented.
Each has its pros and cons, but generally, they both are great devices and its just a matter of what ecosystem(Google - Sony) you prefer.
Xperia z1 or z2.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
Personally, I'd say go for Nexus 5. As mentioned earlier by other people nexus 5 is faster, the only thing nexus lost is on camera and build quality. X.Z is more towards premium side. Sony UI and so on is really my cup of tea. :good:
However, the reason why I propose you to go for nexus 5 is because of DEVELOPMENT. Not only it is faster there, there are tons of elite developer there. I'm not saying that XZ does not have elite developer, (we have alnikki, doomlord, niaboc and many many more). But, if you have noticed, development in XZ has noticeably gone slower and I believe at some time it will just die. In fact, the number of developer keep reducing over time. Just compare and you'll notice. Unless you are not into development, then go for Xperia Z. Otherwise Nexus 5 would be a better choice.
p/s: I own a nexus 4 (and assumed the development in N5 is the same), so I know the development progress in comparison to xperia Z very well.
Xperia Z without doubt.
Even the Nexus having a little bit better SoC, the building materials and quality of the Xperia Z are more important in my opinion.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
You're in luck... I own both a Xperia Z and a Nexus 5.
Performance
Firstly, the N5 is significantly faster. That thing is flipping quick.
The XZ isn't slow, but it isn't near the N5 in speed.
Sound
The sound quality on my XZ is bad. I'm not sure if mine is faulty, or it's just because of the waterproofing on the speaker.
The N5 speaker isn't brilliant, but it is better.
For headphone performance, the XZ is noticeably better, even without ClearAudio+ activated
The music playing application is the main issue with music on the N5. I hate Google music (Sure, I could simply use a different app, but still), it is frustrating to use and just plain annoying. Walkman, to me is the best music player by far, perhaps just my opinion, but you may value it anyway.
Screen
This is where it gets tricky.
I'm sure you've heard complaints about Sony's TFT displays, saying their viewing angles are bad, I however, very much like the XZ display.
To me, the display of the XZ is very realistic. The colours look real, the text looks sharp.
But the display of the N5 is also very nice. Better viewing angles (if you're into looking at your phone at weird angles.)
The colours don't look as real, but nowhere near as fake as that of Samsung. The screen is colourful, and definitely very good.
The ROMs of these two phones suit the screens very well. Sony's rom is largely black & white, with greyish gradients. The wallpapers are landscapes that really go well with the screen.
The N5 has an interface that is made up of 'synthetic' backgrounds - abstract, computer-made images that are colourful. The screen suits it very well.
I've tried swapping the wallpapers, and they don't work as well on each others screens.
Interface
Much like the screen, this is personal preference. I like the small app feature of the XZ, very useful.
I love the XZ interface in general, whenever I try to use AOSP, I just come back to the XZ.
The AOSP interface is good, but to me it just isn't as good.
Camera
I don't use the camera much, so I don't have much of an opinion. I just know that they are both good.
Build Quality
Don't assume that the N5 build quality is bad. I was actually very surprised by its build quality.
It feels solid, of an appropriate weight. Very impressive.
The N5 is shaped in a way that fits your hand better than the XZ - it feels smaller than what it actually is, which I like.
The build quality of the XZ is brilliant. Certainly something to boast about. Hell, the thing is water resistant. How many phones have that?
if I were you i would go for the n5. it has good build quality and better battery life than the z, it has a ridiculously accurate screen and is better in low light photography.
go and read anandtech's review on it and see if it is really for you
well i just went back from nexus 5 to Xperia Z, lack of micro sd slot killed it for me... i need the space...
n5 has its +'s but realised soon without microSD space runs out fast .... well at least for me.
I would choose Z just because I prefer Sony concept.
Stock Android is less interesting and less pretty.
I also prefer Sony's cameras
Plus the design, Nexus always looks like a tasteless brick.
Lol i own both now n5 and XZ
N5 is flying and has good speakers but i miss some features so the Z will be used too

[Q] Z Ultra or Z2 as an upgrade over the Z

You know how difficult it is to choose a phone nowadays. ZU for me was an easy choice after I decided to move in phablet territory. Currently I'm using a Z and thought a bigger phone screen is all I needed. But now Z2 looks so tempting to me for several reasons. Sony really stepped up their game and offered something much better in every aspect compared to the Z and seems much more natural upgrade to me. I will use it mainly for Web browsing, YouTube, watching movies. Taking pictures is NOT a priority by any means but well, it is always nice to know you have a quality phone camera when it's needed. That being said ZU looks like a better choice, but Z2's significantly improved display (no more washed out colours and bad viewing angles as in Z and ZU), the stereo speakers, a much better camera, the longer software support are making my decision very difficult.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
my advice is wait for sometime by the time developers get their hands on the Z2 , once they start making good roms , switch to Z2,
that way u will get it cheaper too as phones get a price reduction in a few months following their launch,
even i am a Z owner and this is what i was planning
either Z2 or the phone that will come later
To be fair, for the uses you stated, you have no need to upgrade at all yet! Wait it out!

[Q] Xperia Z or LG G2

Hi, I am thinking about buying a new phone and I can't decide between Xperia Z and LG G2. They are roughly the same price in my country. I don't care much about the software, since I am going to flash AOSP or CM anyway. Also I don't care about camera too much. I care about display and durability. I like Xperia Z, but the battery life is a huge dealbreaker for me. So I'd like to ask how is the performance and battery life on Lollipop..
Xperia Z
Pros
SD Card Slot
Waterproof
Great looks
Better manufacturer support IMO
LG G2
Pros
Battery life
Better performance

It's like choosing between apples and oranges. Both taste good, it depends on preferences.
Waterproof feature yes it's great, but if you listen to music on the phone you might want to look for Z1/Z2/Z3. Xperia Z has the headphone jack covered and it's very unconfortable listening to music on it. Also the cover caps are not exactly ment for intense usage, inserting and pulling the caps frequently might result in loss of waterproof. They have a tiny rubber on the cap that might come off. It happened to me once after 8 months.
Battery life isnt great but it lasts through the day with intense activity and bluetooth music.
It does look F***ing great and the SD card slot is a huge plus. I have 64 gb on it. Phone memory is for huge games and SD is for music, movies and pictures.
While regarding performance you can't really tell the difference. Xperia Z is also snappy and i didn't encounter any lag in menues or such. It's heavily moded so i expected to see poor performance but no.
Conclusion, buy the Z1 or Z2 or if your wallet is feeling fat, Z3. You'll get better battery life, brighter screen, better camera, and ease of acces to the headphone jack
it's z1 and LG G2 not XZ and G2

I second his opinion, XZ was more of a concept phone. Rather buy the Xperia Z1 or Xperia Z2.

If i had to decide, whether to buy a Z or G2, i would have chosen the G2! The only flaw i see is the lack of the possibility to expand the storage.
A few words to concerning your list:
- The offered waterressistance of the Z is a mere wish, so this part should not count!
- Design is so individually.....
- Battery as well as screen should be a clear pro for the g2
If you can afford a z3 compact - i would choose this!
But you asked for oppinions whether to buy a "Z" or a "G2".

I seriously have no idea why are you even comparing these two phones. you can blindly go for. LG g2. not that i am underestimating xperia z. they dont have anything in common to compare
LG g2
Snapdragon 800, 1080p 60 fps video recorder, optical image stabilisation, amazing display, IR port. though its limited by storage space, you can go for 32gb variant. which i would say more than enough.
Xperia z
water proof, almost outdated processor. camera is good but its not upto lg g2. ya thats it. if you are comparing as to money. i would rather suggest you to buy Xperia ZL which is exact xperia z without water proof and lesser price and IR port is a plus in Xperia ZL.
Thanks for your opinions.....I may get Z1
well being the xperia fanboy i love xperia phones
but on the logical side, my cousin has been though 3 LG G2's all returned because of horrible battery life. as soon as it updated to KK the battery performance dropped.
besides the issue of the battery's was not charging because of 3rd party charges.
moral of story LG does not play nice with 3rd party chargers..
