How do I restore completely back to stock? I rooted a friend's Fire HD (Playstore, Nova Launcher, etc), but they've had a couple issues and I just want to put it back to stock. I searched, but couldn't find an exact answer. Thanks.

SeanPlunk,
Very good question, how to restore the Kindle to it's original Factory State:
Option A: Factory Reset
1. Leave the /system/app/ folder in tact, so most of the Root work remains although the device does not have Root anymore due to the missing su binary which is located in /system/xbin/.
2. Resets most apps since the /data/app/ folder is returned to Factory State
3. Unusual Bugs are usually not resolved since the main /system/app/ folder remains
4. This is a good method when you have several Application problems but not General Device Troubles
Option B: Full Wipe and Restore Using Kindle Fire First Aide
1. Device is returned to it's original Factory State
2. The image includes ChainsDD Superuser professionally installed
3. Eliminates all issues around the Kindle since everything is wiped clean and then restored
You will need a Factory USB Cable to restore the Kindle Fire 2 and HD 7", you can obtain one by sending us a PM with your email address, they cost us $12.00, that is what we sell them to you for $12.00.

What is different about the Factory USB cable vs. any normal Micro-USB cable?
Okay, so I read up on the factory cable. Even if the device is fine, this is the only way to get it back to completely stock? I'm used to phones and my Nexus 7 were I could just wipe everything from recovery and flash a stock rom if I had to. Is that not possible on the HD?

SeanPlunk,
You name reminds me of my favorite band Daft Punk! Anyway, the big difference with the Factory USB Cable is the short between PINS 1 and 4. You have to be really careful with the Factory USB Cable, I have heard a number of people that have accidently plugged in the Factory USB Cable to a phone not designed to accept the cable and smoke, the phone is gone. What we do is place a small band of Red Tape on the Micro side reminding us not to use the cable to change a Samsung or Nexus. So if you plan to buy one, store it away when you are done using the cable.
Yes, I with I could work some sort of Magic but Amazon has locked down the Boot-loader in such a fashion it is impossible to place the Kindle Fire 2 and HD 7" in Fastboot without the cable. You need Fastboot mode to Flash new Firmware.
Try a Factory Restore, what do you have to loose. The Factory Restore will disable almost all you work, then you will have just a small amount of cleanup after the Factory Restore.
Here is how you would perform a Factory Reset:
Step 1: First you need to De-register the Kindle by pulling down the Upper Status Bar, select More+, then select My Account and the click on De-register. The process can take up to 2 minutes and you need toi be connected to the Internet.
Step 2: Next we need to perform the Factory Restore by pulling down the Upper Status Bar, select More+, then select Device. Once you are in the Device options you will select "Reset to Factory Defaults". The process takes about 2 to 5 minutes.
Step 3. Be ready, you will need to Register the device, get back on WiFi, etc so have the owner's Amazon Login available.
That is it!

I have rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7" and wanted to do a factory reset. My kindle was cluttered and I was hoping to start fresh with a reset. I was in the middle of trying to install some google apps, and became stuck when ES file explorer stopped allowing me to paste certain files into system/app. I abandoned the project temporarily, and was going to resume after the reset. After that, every time I booted the kindle on I got error messages.
I assumed once I did a reset those messages would go away, but every time I start to register my kindle I get a message saying "(such and such) has stopped." and I get sent back to the "Welcome" screen. I have tried several times, including quite a few reboots, but to no avail.
Any ideas on how to get past this? Or maybe a way to completely reset everything on the kindle (including system files)? Thanks in advance!
What about...
Will re-downloading the kindle firmware reset the system/app files,so that the current error messages don't show up? If so, is there a way to download firmware without having to use the kindle itself, just from the computer while the kindle is connected through USB?
Edit: I'm going to try and use a factory cable and the "System.img Restore Tool" to see if that fixes the problem, I'll post back later...
I recently decided to restore my rooted Kindle Fire HD 7." The kindle starts just fine, and displays the normal kindle fire boot screen. However, instead of the usual Amazon start-up and device registration screen, it gave me the default Android startup. However, everytime I hit start, the setup wizard ends up crashing. I had the Google Play store installed before the unroot. I have not messed around with custom roms, or anything like that. Windows sees the Kindle just fine, however it doesn't register under ADB. Is there anything I can do? I do not have a factory cable, nor can I find where to get one.

Also, the device doesn't show up when I try fastboot.
I have a rooted kindle fire hd 7" that has TWRP 2.4.40 and Kinology 2.01 on it. Recently, I decided to re-install, doing this.
First:
Plugged in usb power cable (needed to charge)
Second:
Went into recovery mode via holding down the power button inside Kinology
Third:
Did a factory reset, wiped both cache and dalvic cahce
Fourth:
Flashed roms in this order;
Amazon OS 7.31 part 1
Amazon OS 7.31 part 2
Amazon OS 7.31 part 3
Kinology 2.01
Google Apps
Fith:
Cleared cache and dalvic cache again
Sixth:
hit "Reboot System"
Seventh:
Now I'm stuck at blue Kindle Fire logo, after the orange one first shows up. What should I do? I do not have a recovery cable, and the device is not detected. ADB drivers are fully installed.
Edit : Fixed
Had to boot into recovery by holding down volume up (the side closest to the mic jack) while booting!

You didn't flash part 0 of Kinology. Also, you didn't make a backup of Kinology before you did this in case of disaster, did you?
I made a backup
Don't start assuming things because I'm new! I've jailbroken two devices before the fire hd, and yes, I made a backup. My problem is getting to the recovery.
Edit:
If you are not currently running Kinology or Stock OS with TWRP 2.4.4.0, download Kinology-step0a-boot-7.3.0-twrp-2.4.4.0.zip. This will flash four items: stock 7.3.0 xloader, stock 7.2.3 bootloader, Freedom boot/kernel 7.3.0, and TWRP recovery 2.4.4.0.

I didn't assume anything. You've jailbroken, as in Apple devices? The KFHD is an Android device, if you didn't know. It doesn't matter if your ADB drivers are fully installed, ADB requires both devices to fully boot and then it starts communicating. My thread in my signature, #7.
Fixed!

I've jailbroken two different consoles, and rooted + CWM'd an android galaxy s2. But that's off topic! What is really awesome, and that nobody has been able to point out, is that you can restore perfectly fine as long as your first bootloader isn't broken, as I just found out. You just have to hold down volume up while booting, and it goes right into recovery! Happy to have device back! Flashed CM10.1 Tablet, works perfectly after multiple reboots. By the way, while you're here, as a senior member, where should I find more ROMs? I'm starting a list of kindle fire hd roms on reddit and looking for recomendations!

Consoles? I think we call those "devices" but whatever floats your boat. Take a look at the thread in my signature, Step 4.
Hello!! I am new to XDA!! I had rooted my Fire HD 7 and even installed a custom rom by following XDA methods and I was very happy and successful!!! I am not a full noob or beginner considering android. I know some stuff!! But I need help!!! Before I installed a Rom, I had backed up the stock Fire OS...... but the mistake I did was, I did not back up the Memory, Data and I backed up only the System folder!!! ( I came to know my mistake after I bricked my Fire). After using the Rom for quiet some time...... I decided to get back to the stock OS. So I did a factory reset and restored the back up (only the system folder). I got an error in restoring the back up. I tried many times again but I still got the error!!
Then I decided to reboot and see what happens........ I would get a normal blue kindle fire logo. Then........ I got a kindle fire blinking logo but not the orange one but a blue kindle fire blinking logo(It boots up forever, and does not boot up) !!! I was shocked!!! I don't think that's ever happened before with anyone!! I did not panic and I went to TWRP and mounted the SD card thinking that I will put a stock OS zip file and flash it, but even after mounting...... My PC did not recognize the Fire!! And then I messed up with my drivers ( I don't know what I did) and now not even the TWRP is showing up!!
Here is the condition of my Fire HD now :-
1) Get the kindle fire blue logo (custom bootloader) but TWRP is not showing up.
2) Then I get another Blue kindle fire logo, but the blinking one...... which should be orange.
3) That blinking blue logo goes on and on and my Fire never boots up!!
Pls Help!! I would appreciate a faster help!!! How do I fix this??
Thank You.
Well I was going to suggest making a backup of only the data partition from twrp then wiping system, cache, dalvik cache and factory reset then reflashing your os, but if you can't get into twrp I'd go with a fast boot cable and the system IMG restore utility in the android development section, assuming you don't have backups of all you partitions on your PC already.

Which software should I use?? KF First Aide or KFHD_SRT??
And one more question..... can't I get into fastboot mode without the factory cable??
Not without adb access though I haven't personally had to use fast boot before, but I thought I heard something around the lines of the 2nd boot loader having fast boot or something but I don't know if I'm imagining things or not. If you had full root access with adb you could reboot into fast boot, but since you have no os or a corrupt one you will probably need a fast boot cable I think. I am about to goto bed and don't want to have to get up and go search for my USB cable to have to kick my kindle in and out of fast boot. Oh and in this case I'd say use kfhd_srt

But it should be in fastboot mode right?? I managed to get into fastboot before the KFHD SRT. Now..... when I have boot loops.... PC is not recognizing my Fire HD!!! How do I get into fastboot?? (Without Factory cable)
You need a factory cable if its stuck in boot loops. Would love to know how the utility did this, it should have restored a fresh copy of all the stock partitions.

It was my mistake again!!!! I restored the Fire HD with option 2 on KFHD SRT and I then I went out of fast boot..... forgetting to clear Cache and user data!! Maybe that's the mistake I did!!
The problem with my kindle fire hd is that when I turn it on it first boots up normally but then it goes to a screen that says "Kindle Fire System Recovery. Your Kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot. Reseting your device to Factory defaults may help fix this issue." I have a factory cable and I have the driver set up on my computer. I just don't know what to download and what to do. Also I would like to know if I can recover the data that's on it because that's the reason why I'm trying make it work.
I'm sorry if there's already a thread about this. I'm new and I don't where it would be.

I didn't do anything to it. I just used it normally and it wouldn't start. I never tried to root it or anything before it acted up. Completely stock? What does that mean? How do I use Kindle Fire First Aid? I'm sorry I have no idea what I'm doing. XD I thought I was tech savvy but I feel like a baby trying to learn this.
