Hello Guys,
I Have a Little Problem and A Question..
As You Know the Polaris Office 3.0.3258.1 is Coming as Pre-Installed with the LG O4X..
Yesterday I Saw the New Polaris Office 4.0 On My Friend's Galaxy SII.. I Got the .apk via Bluetooth and Tried to Install It But Everytime My Phone Said "Application is Not Installed".. Thats Why??
Here is A List What I Tried Before I Open This Thread On XDA Developers;
- Deleted the Original Polaris Office 3.0.3258.1 with Lidroid Toolbox And Tried to Install 4.0 (Didn't Worked)
- Deleted the Original Polaris Office 3.0.3258.1 with Titanium Backup Pro and Tried to Install 4.0 (Didn't Worked)
- Deleted the Original Polaris Office 3.0.3258.1 from system/app with Root Explorer and Tried to Install 4.0 (Didn't Worked)
- I Thought 'Maybe the .apk File That I Get From My Friend is Damaged" and Downloaded the Polaris Office From Blackmart and Tried to Install (Didn't Worked)
Now Please Can Someone Help Me About How Can I Install the Polaris Office 4.0 to My O4X?? ) Thank You So Much...
So what I did was just use lgs application manager app that comes with our O4X and uninstalled Polaris from there. Then I went here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940197 and downloaded the apk from the drop box link. It worked on the first try. Try downloading it from that link I posted.
What's the difference between the 2 versions?

I've recently moved over from Acer's Liquid E phone to the Samsung Captivate. Nice upgrade, however; the stock app News and Weather is not available on the stock Rogers Rom or the Cognition 4.3 Rom that I have now installed.
I have tried several different apk's, but to no avail. They install, but i get FC's as soon as i try to add the widget to my homescreen.
Does anyone have a solution to to this problem, such as a working apk?
Thanks
EDIT: News and Weather widget also known as Genie widget
Grab it from my phoenix Rom

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I 'grab' it? Do I need to extract it from the rom?

You can't install it, you have to place it in the /system/app folder in the new rom (on your phone, replacing the one that doesn't work)
Use root explorer to place it.
Then restart your phone.

Oh so nice! I used Super Manager from the market to move the file from my sd card to the /system/app folder. Super manager was a little quirky to get root permission, but it worked after force closing.
I didn't even have to reboot!
Thanks for your help everyone.
Now I can keep track of each little article about the playoffs -
Boo yaa!
Best news customizable news app that ive found.
Now, how do I mark the thread as solved?
I moved over from the Acer Liquid E as well. While the Captivate is faster, it runs out of RAM faster since the Acer had the full 512mb available to the user and the Captivate only allows about 340mb.
Otherwise the Captivate is an upgrade in every other aspects!

Pm'ed you. Can't figure out how to post it but I can email it to you.
Pm'ed you back .. Thanks a lot
Got your email thanks dude.
But it didn't work .. it says Application not installed.
I don't think it's from the file that you've sent but it may be the way that I have to install it.. Shall I install it normally like what I do with other apps or should I close or consider doing something before that??
Any Ideas
not really, sorry it didnt work. i have 3.1 wifi only version.
i just copied it out of system/app with root explorer.
i would think it would install like any other app. but obviously it doesn't.
maybe check and make sure there isnt a contacts.apk already in system/app?

Yes there is, it's installed in every stock rom and if you don't have it because you used a custom rom you can get it installed by installing touchwiz 3.0 from madteam.
http://www.madteam.co/forum/development/(port)-touchwiz-3-0-for-'cyanogenmod7'-port/
It contains a lot more than just AllShare so if you don't want the rest, just delete the apk's in app within the zip before you install it.
Just read the thread in that forum and you'll understand how that works.
thanks for answer

You can just choose the launcher on first reboot.
BTW, the launcher and other things in the zip are removable, just open it with your favourite archive program and remove what you don't want.
Glad i could help though.
I installed the new CM7 rom + Gapps.
Everything worked fine but the CM's calculator & calendar are far from what i was used on my stock 2.3.5 GB rom.
I've asked this same question on CM forum but no one replied so i'll try to ask here.
How can i replace my calculator with my old one?
I've successfully extracted the calculator apk from my old rom and have it on my sdcard ready to be installed.
But for some reason i cant get it to install and i even tried to put it on system/apps dir replacing the old one without success.
i know this is possible because i saw someone porting the same calculator to a nexus phone
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522009)
with the apk from that post i could run and install the calculator but the resolution would not fit my screen
any help?
thank you very much, mornaistar

the calendar.apk that you got from old rom, put it in /system/app, now change its permissions using root explorer as follows
Read permission to all i.e. owner, group and others
Write permission to owner
rest unchecked..
after this reboot your phone.. this should work.. if it doesn't that means the apk is not compatible with CM7 firmware and you can search for some other calendar app that suits your needs
i've tested this and it wont work.
can someone port the apps for CM firmware? i know it's possible since xda users made it for other phones
i was able to run one of those ported apps in my galaxy s but the resolution was all wrong
Hi, i messed up (i guess) a mod that installed the S3 task manager following a tutorial from an Spanish forum (btw i'm latin, so i did read well the steps). One of the steps was to delete the original task manager from the ROM, so i did it. In the end, i have the s3 widget, but when I tap it, the manager gets FC'd. Also, the manager isnt in the app drawer.
So please someone with the 4.0.4 RLG Rom with Root explorer, etc. could make a copy of the apk from system/app and pass me in PM or GDrive, Dropbox, etc.
Thanks in advance, cheers!
UPDATE: After 4 reboots, It works both the S3 task manager and the widget, but no luck appearing in the app drawer, which i didnt use it anyway xD but just in case case i need the stock apk.

Do you have the ROM file ? If you have you can do it yourself. Just Extract it and go to app and copy any apk which you require and push it to your phone under System>app
