[Q] [Beginner] Flash other region rom to my i9305 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi there,
I have a HK version I9305 (ZHBLL3) and want to flash Pandoriam or Supreme ROM (XXBLL3).
Will I brick my phone? What function will I lost if I use this ROM (Stock or custom) from other region?
Please advise, thanks
by816

you'll be fine, the region doesn't really matter

I doubt your region is any further away than mine. I have the HK one too, and am using it in Canada. If you're looking for a stock ROM to be safe before flashing a custom one, I'd suggest the Nordic unbranded one (no carrier branding or bloatware), which you can get directly from samfirmware.com or there are two rooted versions posted elsewhere on this site. Also, I highly recommend Mobile Odin from Chainfire, as you can inject root into any stock (not zipped) ROM, so you never have to re-root your phone.
Even if the new ROM doesn't have APN settings for your carrier, you can get those all over the web, and it'll usually pick the settings up from your SIM card. The CSC file contains most of your regional stuff, and as Glebun says, it won't affect the phone's ability to work at all.

Thank you Glebun and ultyrunner
The only thing I concern is the difference between regional version will remove something like localization and input methods.
Although I am comfortable with English but I am also heavily using chinese scripts. So if the custom rom is base on non-localized
version and localization is missing, then I need to know how to add back these functions before using custom rom.
Thanks for valuable information

You will be able to download dictionary (ex.) And if you have a recent sim card all settings will be auto.(I say new because at least in Portugal older ones work but not 100%)

It should not be a issue as u can install a separate apk for keybd, sms ... such as GO that comes with multi languages plug in. I use both english, and chinese often too, no prob.

My i9305 came with German vodafone firmware (VD2) which includes some bloatware apps that i do not want and im about to flash the Greek one from Cosmote carrier. Will i get rid of the vod's bloatware by wiping data/cache and flashing Cosmote's firmware or i will still have them plus the ones from Cosmote's rom ?

Hi, you have to do a Wipe data in recovery mode after flashing ( or enter *2767*3855# on your dialer..)
It will erase the bloatware of VD2 ROMs and keep Cosmote ones

[Q] How to add Chinese language display in Galaxy note

I have recently purchase the Galaxy Note N7000 in the UK, but unfortunately the handset did not come in chinese display, what can I do to make my device to be able to display and type in chinese? Is it possible to flashing the ROM with the Hong Kong stock ROM ? Or any other alternative ways to do it ?
My device version
PDA: N7000XXKKA
PHONE:N7000XXKK5
CSC:N7000XEUKK3
if u want chinese in your menus then u need to flash a rom with chinese support.
However if you jusut want to write chinese you can just install a keyboard (ie. touchpal) from the market and you should be able to after downloading the chinese plugins.
hope this helped
Do u mean I can flash the ROM with the Hong Kong Official ROMS then I will be able to make all the menu and interfaces into chinese?
So I can flash the UK Rom to hk official Rom with no problem ?( as long as i follow the steps ?)
Is it I should use odin to do it?
Thanks so much for advice
you can also transport the chinese input apk and library files to any custom rom. just copy these files over from any stock Hong Kong
/system/app/diopenchineseIME.apk
/system/lib/libdhwrcn.so
/system/lib/libdwpcn.so
/system/lib/libhangulcore.so
/system/lib/libkeyboardcn.so
I think flashing the ROM witb PC Odin is much faster. If you want simplified Chinese flash the PRC ROM.
Of you like Traditional Chinese flash the HK ROM.
Let us confuse the carriers and Samsung!

The simplest thing I recommend the Go keyboard as I'm using the Go launcher. I don't speak or read Chinese, but wife kids and friends all are OK with Go...including using fingers to draw characters onsceen. I don't want to futz with APK's every time I do a new ROM...too invasive from my POV.
I'm not sure flashing any HK/Chinese rom would be wise as the official Chinese roms will be built for the Chinese version of the Note, the i9228, not the European/International i7000 Note that you own.
I've read about people soft bricking their i9228's by flashing an i7000 rom so I guess the other way round would do the same.
I think hocgwai's solution would be the safest.
flash with the chinese rom
Go ahead and flash it baby!!
If whatever you try it doesn't work.
flash back original rom if it doesn't work.
if it still doesn't work, send it back to Samsung dealer for servicing!!
no big deal! samsung servicing is not as crappy as HTC, i hope!
just wondering did you get it working?
i also want to install Chinese on the galaxy note...
also anyone got the files or rom that i need to make this work?
thanks
Singapore and Malaysia firmware support Chinese display and input on the Samsung Galaxy Note.
Yours Sincerely

Can I flash a different region firmware on my international note?

I have a galaxy note with italian baseband. My question is can I flash it with another region's firmware (asian firmware)?
Yes you can!
Yes.You can always flash any region firmwares on your phone. But the firmware should belong to your phone model.i.e N-7000 firmwares on N-7000,and I-917 firmwares on I-917.Which means firmwares are devices specific and not region specific
If you cant understand any of the above, the exact answer for your question is yes you can
would this affect my warranty? & flash count? and another question could i directly flash with an older firmware, im currently on 2.3.6 i was wondering if i could flash 2.3.5?

1.It wont affect warrant as long as you are in stock firmware. But if you have a network locked device I'm not sure because I have no network locked device in my region. If you have international unlocked note, you are 100% covered by warranty as long as its stock
2.Stock roms dont increase counter.Only custom roms do
3.You can flash any GB rom when you are in GB(to make it simple IMO)
Does this also apply to other devices?
That it is possible to use different firmwares.
(in this particular case LG optimus black p970)
Yup

firmware backup

Hi,
First of all here are my specs...
S5830
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: S5830XWKPA
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL561786
[email protected]#1
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKPY
I want to flash this rom from sammobile which I beleive should work with my phone
Model Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC
GT-S5830 United Kingdom / Ireland 2011 September Android 2.3.6 S5830XWKPY S5830XEUKP1
but before I do I would like to backup my existing rom in the same format as this rom so I can flash through odin.
I found this page on the wiki for backing up your rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/How_to_backup_Original_ROM but its not in the same format as the downloadable roms. Can I flash this through odin? or how can I backup my rom like the downloads from sammobile?
I just want a backup so I have something to fall back on should I need to.
Thanks
First of all. The rom you are trying flash is very old. New firmwares are more stable. Try a rom which was released this year. I wonder why you want to backup the original rom, its old. Anyway, just backup stuff using cwm, search for your current firmware of sammobile and download it. If you want to return back to original firmware, flash the firmware via odin and restorethe cwm backup.

There is no official rom higher than 2.3.6 for this phone, I'm guna flash cyanogenmod at some point when I get a bit more time but for the time being I just wanted to flash official 2.3.6. Am I wrong in thinking the CWM needs a rooted phone to work? or will this feature run on unrooted phones?

If your phone is operator specific then flashing rom from different countries might cause problems. If your phone is unlocked and you can use it with any operator then no problem. You can flash any rom.

ah ok, mine is on o2 uk but it was bought from phones4u so it should already be unlocked, so thats good to know. There doesnt seem to be any o2 branding on the phone so i'll have a play when I get sum spare.

But still, just try using a sim from some other operator and see if it works. If it doesnt, your phone is operator specific.
yeah, will do,
thanks

(Q) Very quick question on returning to stock...

I have a GT-I9305T (Telstra Version) currently running CM10.1, I would like to unroot the phone and return it to factory original stock...
1) can I flash a stock i9305 or does it have to be a i9305T based ROM? - where can I get these?
2) should I run triangle away in CM10.1 then flash the stock ROM, and run SU to unroot?
3) after all that is done I still have CWM right? how do I return that to stock?
THANKS IN ADVANCE...

1) Yes you'll need a I9305T based rom, it's to do with basebands and 4G (e.g. i9305 can't do 4G in Australia while i9305T can...)
2) I forget how it is with triangle away, but that's up to you. Whether or not that red exclamation mark bothers you or not. Also it'll automatically unroot when you flash the stock rom via Odin. So no worries about that!
3) CWM will be removed (stock recovery restored/added) and any custom kernels will be gone too.
Good luck, but becareful with Odin. If you don't feel certain about something, look it up on YouTube (as their explanations will be better as you'll be able to view it).
Hope this helped

"The I9305 is the European version and the difference is:
The I9305 operates on the LTE800 & LTE2600MHz bands
The I9305T operates on the LTE1800 & LTE2600MHz bands

The thing is, you're stating that Telstra themselves lied when they said using an i9305 Rom/firmware package is not something that is recommended and hasn't been tested.
They also said that there is a difference...
Also, they way you came and said that was 'bull' was childish and plain rude.
I answered the question correctly and showed facts.
You've done nothing but call part of my explanation 'bull' and nag about how there is then no difference when clearly there is.
Next time I recommend you be more friendly when claiming someone is wrong.
I recommend you leave it at that, cause I am.

Hi, the DBT version (for Germany) is 100% unbranded and works fine. Other is NEE (Finland). Those two are tested myself and no branding or bloatware present. No issues with OTA or Kies (well, if you're in Europe).

Yes, I have used this ROM on all my S3's and no issues at all. (Voda,Virgin,Orange).
Use Odin and do hard reset before and after flashing!
If you want a ROM which is pretty much close to stock, you could have a look at "The Galaxy Project": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125984
It's based on the official Samsung ROMs (not AOSP/CM etc), it looks like the stock ROM, and the only difference is some minor tweaking, completely unbranded, and bloat removal. It's completely international (Europe, Oceania etc) and uses the most current Firmware (4.1.2 XXBMR8).
By the way, here's another location for untouched Firmwares:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9305
No login needed which is helpful.
