Microsoft Exchange with LG Stock 10h Email - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi All, Please if anyone else has problems adding an email account using the MS Exchange option in the stock Email app can you share a solution. I get prompted to add an Administrator access before the app searches for the server and it then always fails. The admin never shows up in settings security. I tried this for 3 Exchange servers, same issue.
Thanks...

I had the same problem, found it is due to it doesn`t prompt to set password. Go to setting and set the phone password before setup exchange account, then it will Work.

May be I have the same problem. If I want to setup an exchange account in Stock-Mail-App, there should be a dialog, in which I have to accept the creation of a "device admin" (i´m german, I hope thats the correct translation). But this dialog never appears anymore. At first time, the dialog was there and I could create my account. But later on, there is no entry visible in "Device Admins" for Stock-Mail and after a Restore of a Nandroid-Backup, I couldn´t create the exchange Account anymore, cause the dialog doesn´t appear.
So, may be ur solution could help me. But what do u mean with "phone password", where to set. Did u mean lock screen password or what else? Please give advice, where to set "phone password". Thanks in advance!

Yes, I mean the lock screen password.
On Samsung S2, after aceept the security setting of the Exchange server, it prompt to set the lock screen password, but doesn't seems to be happen on LG, so I go and set it manually and it works.

Besides, swipe or pattern may not work, need to be pin or password.

It depends on whether you've activated IMAP in your Gmail and you should not let the phone auto detect your email settings- do it manually.
One other cause may be a proxy on your connection. When I first ran the auto operator setup, my POP3 email didnt work until I removed the proxy (still don't understand why)

It's best if you delete the account and then create a new one. When you create a new account, the first screen asks for your email address and password and then the second screen asks you if it should try and detect the settings automatically. THAT's where you need to uncheck it so you can enter your settings in manually on the following page.

if your want to use gmail imap, you have to enter an incorrect email address first ([email protected]) and then edit it after, also I recommend using http://www.mobipush.com/ (push email) set to download your emails every 10-15 mins, you will get incredible battery life

Not true., it sets up as IMAP automatically.
And turn off vodafone proxy, and after setting up account, go to accountsettings again, and at last page under keyboard is 'advanced options', be sure it shows the right connection to be used !!
Downloading schedule can be set up in outlook mobile, and turn off push

Email Setup

Hello All,
I have installed Dutty's rom and I'm trying to setup some email accounts but I'm stuck with the customizing of email servers and ports. Mobile outlook tries to fetch automatically the settings but unfortunately it fails to do this. Is there a way to change the port from somewhere else?
Best Regards
how are you stuck? Does the phone freeze at that point or something or don't you know your settings?

OK, maybe I expressed myself wrong, my apologies.
When I try to setup a new email account into mobile outlook on the first screen the wizard asks me for the email and the password and in the second screen some auto setup starts (I thing outlook has some templates with the email settings). There is no screen where I can enter and write the pop/IMAP servers and ports, or to select the type if the account. My question was that is there a way to do all the above things?
Best Regards

Problems with MS Exchange in Magic

I am using the native MS Exchange in Magic. However, after keying in all my details, it says authentication failed, please check username and/or password.
I'm pretty I keyed in those details correctly (i re-keyed in many times), but I kept getting the same error message. I have also enabled SSL. Anyone know why?
I have no problems in sync-ing using Roadsync and Touchdown. But these are trial versions only, and will expire soon.
Anyone can help here? Thanks!!

Hi brian,
How do you tick the box? Its my company's exchange server, so I need to get my system administrator to do it at his end? Thanks.

You need to ask the IT guys to make the change in Exchange management, under Microsoft Exchange, Organisation Configuration, Client Access then go properties on the default policy. On the Default (Tab) tick to allow non-provisionable devices
This should now work
Thanks

Hi thanks for your help. Unfortunately, my IT guys do not want to check that box for security reasons.
I had the same problem and I performed a couple of factory resets trying different ways of configuring the exchange activesync before figuring out what is going on. What finally worked for me is the following.
When I was entering the necessary fields in the configuration screen (email, server address, user name, password etc.) using the onscreen keyboard, at the end I was pressing the little key at the bottom left of the virtual keyboard to remove it from the screen and then I was pressing the button “next” and I was always getting the message ”authentication failed please check username and/or password”.
When I tried the same thing (filling the fields in the configuration screen) without pressing this little key that removes the virtual keyboard, everything worked perfectly. I did not believe in my eyes and I decided to make again a factory reset and try it again. It worked again….
Hope that this helps

Just tried, but still doesn't work for me.
I had an issue setting up my exchange as well. I previously used a Self-Signed Certificate with my Tytn II but I found no ability to add root certificates to Android.
So first I had to switch my exchange 2007 server to a trusted 3rd party UC Certificate (DomainsforExchange was cheapest and worked). Other oversite on my part (I think I am getting old) was after entering the account info I missed having to tick on (make checkmark red) "This server requires encrypted SSL connection". It is off by default.
I am still not used to the android style of showing a checkbox with tickmark in grey as being disabled.
Thats about it.
Here is a sample of the account information (Fake).
Email Address
[email protected]
Server Address
mail.acme.com (DNS name of my mail server)
Domain
ACME
Username
bboysinbush
Password
%)Migopop
SSL question ticked in RED.
just to add, it won't work with norwegian characters "æøå",
might also apply to other special characters, no idea really...

Change Gmail Password?

Generally I change my passwords annually, but I'm wondering how this would affect the sync on my phone. Does this automatically "update" on your phone; i.e. do I even need to change anything on my phone to keep the sync going (along with the paid apps).
I'm probably over-worried about it, but i would like to change my PW but would hate to have to wipe my phone to do it.
Has anyone changed their Gmail password since setting up an Android phone?
If you change your Gmail account password your phone will eventually popup with a sync error message. You'll then be prompted to enter your new password at this point to sync. So, a wipe is not required.

I have exactly the same issue. Amazingly, It looks like google didn't implemented a easy feature to this scenario.
For several forums I searched in, I only could find that if I wait an unspecific number of days, eventually!, it will pop up a window to insert a password! Completely unacceptable. I'm very frustrated with this.

You can't remove your primary google account.
But, if you change your password, within an hour it should popup asking for your new one. It's relatively easy; I've done it a half-dozen times.
If it's rooted then I think wipe cache or davlik resets account.

If you try to log back into the Android market, it asks you for the new password, and resets this across your phone.
I'm on HTC desire.
I had the same issue with the endless Captcha. There is a solution though.
Go to www .google .com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha on a PC or a web-browser and unlock the Captcha for your account. You will then be able to login again with username and password on your device.
Hope this helps

pin/pass lock removal needed after Android 6 Marshmallow

After upgrading to Android 6 and doing a factory wipe on my Nexus 6 it now requires me to use pin or pass locks so that I can add my exchange email accounts. I never like this as I am always checking my phone so to keep entering a pin is a pain. If I go into Device Administrators I can disable email but it deleted the email accounts.
Is there anyway I can disable/remove the use of a pin to unlock the phone but still have my exchange email accounts? Why has this suddenly changed in Android 6, it wasn't a requirement when I was running Lollipop?
Turn on Smart Lock either with a bluetooth connection or a location.
I can't, smart lock is greyed out

It is a requirement set by who ever runs your Exchange system, that is what I do for a living. Why you didn't see in on lollipop I can't answer, perhaps they just turned it on in Exchange. But that seems like a heck of a coincidence that they did it at the same time you upgraded. Maybe you set it up before they added the requirement and your phone didn't see the change until you wiped it and reset it up. That would surprise me to. Dunno.
What I do is I use the Nine email app for my Exchange account, it allows you to set the Exchange pin requirement to just that app. It is also much better on battery than using the Gmail app.
I run the mail server so I can tell you that I know for sure I didn't change anything on it. The mail server is Kerio Connect not Exchange by Microsoft. That's really odd if you say it is the server which sets that security policy because as I said until I upgraded I didn't have to use a pin

Check the settings for the ActiveSync policy in Kerio and see if it is turned on. I just tested my Exchange server with 6. If I turn it off in Exchange the phone does not require a pin/password. As soon as I turn it back on it requires one.

I've checked the settings and there is nothing enabled. I tried installing Nine and it worked fine without a pin but my trial has now ended and I don't want to have to pay for an app that I didn't use to need
Set a simple pattern lock in Settings > Security. Then set the Automatically lock to 30 minutes and turn off Power button instantly locks. Go into Smartlock and add a trusted device, like bluetooth headset, smartwatch, or other bt device. And/or add one or more trusted places. If in a trusted place or using a trusted device, you won't have to unlock. Also, it won't lock for 30 minutes after you unlock it if you have had to. These steps have allowed me to almost never have to unlock with my pattern.
