[Q] Optimus 4X max data speed? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi guys, does ant one know what the 4X maximum possible data speeds are? Looking at the Optimus 4X phone over the Optimus G because it uses NVIDIA Tegra chip-set. From what I hear LTE is getting averages of 30-40mps and if the 4X can match that I see no reason not to get it. Does 4X support ATT or T-Mobile network?
Also how does the 4X compare to the G? Any one have any first hand experience with the two? Any recommendations between the two?

Well the 4X Hd supports HSPA+ 21, so theoretically, it can reach speeds of 21 mbps, it all depends on the carrier. If you decide to use a tmobile sim, you'll only get edge speed (which is slow) because tmobile doesn't support the 1900mhz frequency yet, they are just rolling it out. If u go with any AT&T sim cards though, you will be getting Hspa+ speeds. My carrier is straight talk with their at&t sim card and I'm pushing 3-5mbps where I live so that's good enough for me. The 4x looks like the OG, but their internals are different

here in Norway i have been able to get a speed of 29,7 mbit/s (on dual hspa+)
not as high as my carrier promises at 42...(dual hspa+)

If I`d still have that Netcom sim card - yes
Sadly I swapped my service provider a few weeks ago back to good ol` NO Telenor, where my speed with this subscribement is capped at 12 mbit/s

[Q] king_3D_ROM_V1.6 looks like working on LG thrill

Just installed king rom from following O3D post and it looks like it is working, not yet fully tested though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200111
very fast, smooth, no issues making and receiving calls, mounting and un-mounting SD etc
testing wifi and data connections now.
followed sames instructions as stated in king rom
rooted, with cwk recovery from LG thrill thread and loaded king rom and WOW
but being a new bee, need some one experienced to certify this.
thx.
Yup. I don't see any reason Optimus 3D roms wouldn't work seeing as this IS an Optimus 3D. You should be able to run Waterbear too lmao.

What an awesome name for a ROM
Only reason those roms wouldnt function correctly is the radios really.
Why wouldn't the radios work? GSM. Apns may not be be set up optimally in those roms but the radios should work fine I think.
Well the radio's in Europe use different Bands although these phones are technically world phones so I do see your point now that you mention it. Hmm that brings up another idea than, I wonder if the kernel's are the same. Also wonder if the Camera Mod they have over there would work.

Huh? Most carriers in Europe use the same bands as AT&T. I'm sure the camera mod would work, but in its current form it causes a few bugs. Force closes at the end of video recording sometimes and resolutions below 720p do not work with that mod I think. Maybe I'll attempt to make a similar mod but without the bugginess.
Well according to AT&T themselves.
GSM networks in North and South America operate at frequencies of 850 or 1900 MHz, while most networks in other countries operate at frequencies of 900 or 1800 MHz. AT&T also offers phones that operate on 3G technology at 2100 MHz to roam in Japan and South Korea. AT&T recommends quad band phones/devices for most international travelers. Since these wireless devices operate on all four of the international GSM frequencies, you ensure the broadest international coverage available.
So no not quite the same bands. But again considering our phones are world phones it's kinda a mute point I think.
I have tried King 3d and the the power froyo 1.5 everythign seems to work except I only get 3g speeds. So i bet once the radio is pulled form the thrill we will be in business. I will try some others and let you guys know what I find.

Yes but pretty much all modern GSM phones are quad band and support those same four frequencies. Just look up the specs for some European Android phones. Most support 850 and 1900 except for the few AWS carrier phones.

4G on RAZR i (XT890)

New to the XDA Forums... frequently use XDA for help on my previous phones.
I have the RAZR i (XT890) now unlocked for T-mobile and am trying to get my 4G to work
Is this possible?
I also got my wife the LG Optimus 4X HD and would like to do the same. I dont like having such powerful phones and no 4G
Er, no. Razr i is not 4G compatible as it says in the phone specs. It does work very well on 3g - way better than my previous HTC and Samsung phones.
Sent from my XT890 using xda premium
Remember that t-mobile has a tendency to label its 3g+ network as 4g so if you are getting real slow speeds chances are that you are on 2g. Though you still have the problem with the fact that most of t-mobiles 3g network is located on the 1700 AWS band that the razr i doesn't support.http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_i_xt890-4998.php
Tmo is in the process of changing some of its 1700 3g into 1900 3g which your phone does support, but until then you are basically stuck on 2g. Mattlgroff or some other Razr buff probably can tell you more, since i live in sweden

[Q] O4X on T-Mobile...?

So i just ordered a Optimus 4X HD off of amazon and it's going to ship in the next few days. I've looked into this phone and saw that it'll run on any gsm network but from what I've seen on a couple websites is that it won't accept/work with US T-Mobile sim cards... Is this true or what?
It could be possible that it only works on edge in t mobile. Most European phones do. Most have exactly the same bands then att has. T Mobile USA uses a funky gsm band.

Hey i'm using the optimus 4X on T-mobile and i live in Southern California. Most of the time i only get 2G/Edge but in certain areas i do get HSPA+/3G/4G. I live in the Riverside area...if you live in a high market like Los Angeles, Vegas etc...you might be able to pick up 3G/4G on the 1900 WCDMA band. For example, I was in LA this past weekend, and i had H+ the whole time.

Carrier Unlocked?

Hi is I just Carrier(Sim) unlocked the phone with HTCunlocker.com for $35. First try they didn't find it in the database the they searched in 2013 and I got it unlocked. I can use it on T-Mobile 4G. Getting very fast speeds.

Not by default, but you should be able to request AT&T to unlock the device while on contract with them like you would with any other device, at which point you could get a micro sim from T-Mobile instead. You would likely need to pay an ETF to AT&T though, if you want to terminate your service with them after buying the phone, assuming you bought the phone on subsidy/contract.
Well I just called At&t and HTC they are both not able to unlock.

Did you purchase it off-contract? If not, they definitely can't unlock it for you. However, if they did, I'd call back in a few weeks. IIRC it takes a bit before they get unlock codes.

This device is exclusive to AT&T for the first month of its life, later to be released to T-Mobile and Verizon I'd wager.
Until this exclusivity is up, the phone will remain carrier-unlockable.
(excluding those unlocking websites, not sure about them.)

Also hoping for clarification
Definitely wanting this phone but not trying to pay $80/mo. at AT&T when I can go prepaid at T-Mo. There's some confusing overlap between bands that I'm not entirely sure how to take apart. Here's from GSMarena's specs:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - for AT&T
4G Network LTE 700 / 1700 / 2100
Is there a band-limited version specifically for AT&T? And does the lack of 1700/2100 in 3G networks on the First prevent that from working?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_USA#Radio_frequency_spectrum_chart
For those wondering - AT&T is selling this guy for $350 in store, no contract right now. If you bring in an older working smartphone (I have one or two lying around) they'll give you $100 off - so that's $250. Sign up for their cheapest talk-only plan, $25/mo, then cancel right away and take it on over to T-Mobile, you got yourself a nice $50-$60 plan, and according to the T-mo guy, LTE and everything. I'm about to pull the trigger this weekend.

Paired with their $30 100 minute /unlimited everything plan, this is looking to be a real solid setup.

When you say "it works fine," do you mean "I can make/receive calls/messages" or "I get 3G+ speeds, plus all the other stuff". ANY phone that takes a sim card will "work just fine" with T-mobile, but that's not the point of having a smartphone.
I'm guessing the only way to get "4G" is if you live in the refarmed areas.

How is it Sprint can be using so many bands together to get more speed and yet it's still slower than Tmo's single band? Oh right, it's Sprint...
I miss the old Sprint. I was their biggest fanboy for a good long while there before their 3g became unusable and their only 4g was wimax which didn't make it past trees or a window at anything more than a single bar. I understand the high frequency attenuation, but the lack of 3g backhaul is ridiculous and so is their piecemeal 4g network. I feel sorry for anyone still using them during this "transition". If this was a store under construction, they'd be better off closing for until they're complete, because the customer experience is so bad... I hope they make good use of their prime Nextel 800mhz spectrum, they could make a great network with it, it's totally possible. But I'll believe it when I see it.

yep, I can attest to that. Orlando was launched about a month ago, and voice and data coverage couldn't be better. Before I could barely get WiMax, but I get good LTE speeds at my residence and most of my commute through the city. CDMA 800 has already started rolling out in my area, as well as Spark
I just got the official text message from Sprint a few days ago announcing the new spark network here in Minneapolis. Now the wait for Google to update and enable the radios needed to receive the new LTE bands.
Sprint network has improved quite a bit in the last 6 months. I an get LTE pretty much everywhere in the metro and suburbs now. I will admit i was almost ready to pay the ETF and jump ship 6 months ago...

Cause its not currently using all three at once... Enabling all three bands is great but until we get a radio that can negotiate and use all 3 at once your speeds won't be that awesome. I get band 26 here in Houston sometimes and its certainly better than b25 cause of congestion and I have gotten band 41 here too where I got speeds of 70+Mbps (much faster than tmo) but the problem is I until the update we only get one band at once hence the odd speed results.
I'll edit later once I find my spark Houston speed thread I started months ago.
Cheers
When sprint updates so our n5s can use the spark network would it just be in a prl/profile update or an OTA type thing? Will I be on board if I'm running a custom ROM, or will I have to go back to stock for it?

Spark doesn't allow you to receive all 3 bands at once. The technology will automatically switch between the 3 bands, selecting the fastest band and strongest signal available for where you are.

good info thanks
even if you use the .15 modem and are lucky enough to find a 41b tower like i did until we get the updated modem and corresponding software the handoffs between the two will be awful like they are now, and even if you change band priority b25 always seems to take over eventually regardless of the other bands strength.

Expect a new radio.. This will be the brains behind the band switching but I wouldn't be surprised if there are also elements within the rom that will help with spark too.
So yes at least flash the new radio with your custom ROM and see if there is any changes if not wait till your custom ROM of choice updates to 4.4.3 which won't take long lol
A prl and profile can only really enable the bands but a new radio needs to be in place to help with the handoffs

A prl and profile can only really enable the bands but a new radio needs to be in place to help with the handoffs

MrObvious, where about are you getting Band 26 in Wichita? I'll be there this weekend and want to track some GCI/PCI
Wish the n5 supported 2600mhz LTE

Primarily over the east side but I went all down 96 and 135 from Rock and it held band 26.

It does. Some people have reported band 41. The towers love to put out 26 (probably because it's lower frequency) and man is it strong! I haven't seen band 41 yet but would love to see a Speedtest on it. Some have reported on s4gru and I think HoFo.
I've gotten plenty of Band41 LTE on my Nexus 5 on the .15 radio. Here is my best speedtest so far:
