Battery Life- An experiment

Anderson Did an experiment to see how far the battery life can last on normal usage.The battery power was monitored using the app "Battery Monitory Widget"
And he came to the conclusion that The battery life could well last more than 2 days if you use just the communication tools (whatsapp, Facebook, sms) on a 2G network. With heavy data usage, the battery power got zapped out rather quickly.

I'm kind of experimenting in this too..
Today i unplugged my phone this morning (6am) and its dropped to 97% now @ (3pm).
So thats only 3% in 9 hours..
I use Facebook widget which updates + Twitter widget same setting (both auto update every hour)
I sent about 10 text messages (also received about that amount) and made 1 phone call (about 3 minutes)
All this on 3G network, i dont save on 2G/3G setting

2G coverage is very suboptimal in Switzerland, especially if you are using a Sunrise.ch contract. Their 2G performance with Edge is about 100kbit/s for download. This is a joke. I am not able to use a phone with 2G and enjoy it. Therefore whenever possible I have to switch on 3G (which is of course also not great, but at least it is much faster).
Therefore, 2G is not an option at all for me.

I am running stock on mine and I seem to at least have found some form of "battery" drain. Trying to reproduce the usage.
But I charged my phone fully, and then restarted it and "at the moment" it is holding its power sorta alright. But when I use it normally it lasts like 7-8 hours before needing a recharge, even if its just laying on my desk and not being touched.
Ok testings done. These figures are after a reboot and where I have more or less left the phone laying on my table only having a short call, and otherwise reading a few emails and responding to a few texts. The entire time autosync was on, as well as 3G Data.

At which point I stopped the test and then put my phone in the charger. Tomorrow once it is done charging I will start up all the stuff I normally run on it, charge it to full and see how well it does there when I am not using the phone at all. Quite frankly I expect a large difference simply because that is what I have seen, but starting program and then exiting said programs and leaving the phone on standby "should" not impact consumption in my view at least.

I think there is something bad with my battery, because Battery Monitor Widget says that my battery is a 1200 not 1500, without doing nothing at all it lose 1% per hour and suddenly in 10mins drops like 6%, so in 8hs aprox from 86% goes to 68% (the phone doing nothing)
I have 3G always active, whatsapp and gmail, just that. Will try to do the test again with 2G, but what I don´t understand is why it says 1200 instead 1500.
Should I get a new battery? could be deffective this one?

You define your battery size in settings, 1200 mAh is default.

CM7 is the best for me

CM7 seems to be really good for me, i used 28% of it with medium-heavy use (no games, but wifi always on and a lot of playing about with) in 5 hours and at night i lost 3% in 7 hours sleep with 3G on. Not fully stable but seems better than sacrificing the smartness of my smartphone.

Lost 0% 2 days ago when sleeping for 9-10 hours i think
Today i lost 1% when sleeping for 9-10 hours
I am using 2g since i don't have 3g connection in my house.
It's a bit unstable but battery improvement is more important for me then some little bugs

The O2X does not have good battery management, so it will drain.. getting usable results with mcr r15

Battery use

Can somebody help me out here? My battery life is really bad, today I lost about 10% battery indicator 4 hours with the phone lying in my pocket! When I use the phone its even worse. I am on cm7 nightly 09302011, and it seems like everyone brags about the battery life, just not me. 3g always on, bluetooth off, background data on, autosync off, no live wallpaper and å clock widget. What could be wrong?

Are you using a custom Kernel? Since installing the NeoBlaze kernel my phone has started using power on idle.. last night it used 40% charge while completely idle and not in use..
I don't really care because I carry 2 batteries around with me at all times, but it does seem changing around roms/kernels messes with battery life. Perhaps you just need to hit up eBay, batteries can be had for $2.80 shipped.

Without Juicedefender, 10% in 4 hours with no use is actually pretty good for this phone.. I'm jealous. I get that kind of battery life with data OFF most of the time.

No custom kernel. Thought I read in the forum that ppl got like 3% loss overnight. Maybe thats without data...

get widgetsoid and turn your data on and off (and 2g/3g) on and off quick and easy.
who on earth needs data running over night anyway ?
same as watching full hd videos on 480x800 screen..... thats just dumb

I think this would explain why

I guess 3g is the sinner. Installed JUiceDefender and went from 11h to 32h battery life.

Not sure what happened to my phone, I'm getting 4 hours off a charge now with relatively light use.. just some web browsing and screen off idle half the time.. Going to try topogigi rom and see what happens.

Im on topogigi 2.0 sp1 and have the same problem ... I calibrated but.... the improvement was pretty low, I was thinking that my hardware was broke or some untill see your post and others arround the forum, seems to be a fu..$%#$ misterious this stuff!

hp extreme sr2 battery drain

Hi guys.
I have installed in my lgo2x the kernel hp sr2 and HP PerformancePack V8 Lite.
I realized that the battery consumption is very hight.
For example this night the percentage battery is passed from 100% to 94% with only 2g turned on.
My phone mount rom stock v20l and BB823.
it is normal?

If night you mean sleep for 8hrs and it drained from 100% to 94%... I think that is normal.

but before, with stock kernel, i did not have this consumpion, i found the battery to the 100% or 99%.
is the neoblaze kernel better than hp kernel regard battery drain?

1% per hour is a fact of life. The phone still has to communicate with cell towers to ensure it's on demand ready to accept a phone call/text message/email push.
Put the phone in an area with better reception and it wont have to try so hard to make a signal.

Can i place a replacement for the battery???

Draining 60% battery while surfing over 3g for 1 hour is a bit too much, are you streaming video? try to calibrate your battery.

That's not normal. If you believe your battery is faulty hit up eBay and get one of the $2.80 ones to test.
But try a calibration first.

You can clear battery stat from cwm or download app called battery calibration, charge your phone to 100% and press calibrate and use your phone till the battery is fully depleted, till it shuts down by itself. Then charge it up again and use it normally. Monitor is there is any difference after 2-3 cycles, if not, you have a bad battery.

Use [ROM] Rebuild of Leaked V20o Gingerbread Update , my battery take +24 hrs to get off.

Screen flickerig on low battery despite battery replacement

Hi,
Hey i am using my note for a year now, and my phones battery got swelled, with some discussion on xda i was adviced to replace my battery which i did with another original samsungs battery. Now this new battery is charging and discharging fine, and is giving me an on screen time of 5 hours with constant messaging and music and some browsing, the issue that i am having is of battery indication and screen flickering.
First the screen flickering issue, whenever i am below 20 % my screen starts to flicker and it keeps on flickering till the phone dies, sometimes even at 15%. Then when i tried to charge it, it charges from 0.
At times when i partially charge my phone, say i am on 50% and then when i unplug my phone at 60%, it then shows 75% indication but then the flickering starts at 30% and phone dies at 26%.
The battery is giving average time so i think its not a battery issue or maybe it is.
But then i mostly found it a battery indication issue, i read multiple threads and even wiped my battery status. but the issue is the same.

may be give it a few charging cycles.. charge it from 0 to 100 with phone off.. till it says completely charged.. then check the performance..

Maybe you bought a faulty battery!?! did you bought the orignal samsung battery?

Well yes its from samsungs outlet, dated and stamped.. otherwise the battery indicators and every other stat is good. On full charge it has 4.320 V. Discharging equally to 2.8 V. But indications is not going according to the drain and flickering at low %.

I am having a similar issue where my screen will flicker for a minute and then immediately turn off and charge from 0%. I was wondering if it could be a kernel issue as my battery is the stock battery and has never had problems before (I am on XXLSC). To me it looks like the battery is not getting enough power (hence the flickering) and then turns off. Sometimes if I turn off my phone as soon as it starts to flicker and I wait 10-15 minutes I can turn it back on no problem, other times it will just die. I have tried clearing battery stats, and was going to try my spare battery but apparently that swelled in storage.
Good luck in figuring it out! I will report back if I find anything new.

4320volt, interesting, I think its faulty, its off about 120 volts. If it depletes at a higher voltage, it looks like something is astray with the meter/level indication or battery

Sorry for the confusion it actually was 4320 mV or 4.320 v when full charged.
Let me post some screen shots. The overall on screen time is around 5 hours. So the battery is giving a good timming.

New Motorola RAZR i battery drains quickly

Hi
I bought the Motorola Razr I yesterday, I been using it all day today.
But the battery is abnormally short. It drops very fast min 10% per hour to 27% per hour. I don't think this is normal for a new phone. The battery temperature is 38°c on normal use.
Am I using the phone wrong or did I get a faulty phone?.
I have nfc on all the time until 23% but after that I turned off nfc to see if that was the problem but it didn't seem to be.
I can get screen captures if needed.

you need some circles from full to down then you will se the real power.
but the battery with stock rom is not so great as with the custom rom from omar or max.
i dont think your battery is faulty give it some tryes!
and at least you csn not easy change the battery by yourself

You might wanna figure out what is actually draining your battery. Search XDA for 'better battery stats' and install it. When your phone is not beeing used it should stay in deep sleep for most of the time, if not, check wakelocks to see whats keeping it from sleeping. For me it was mostly Google Now which caused the drain.

ok so the more i use the battery the better results i may get?
One of the reasons i bought this phone was because of the review on battery life e.g. http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/motorola-razr-i-1098183/review/9
Now i have done a wipe of cache and data, did a factory reset. Charged from 10% to 100%. Getting the last few % is hard, this morning i woke up and it was still 99%. Went back after 1 hour to check it was 99% and dropped to 98% while the phone is off and charging.
Once its 100% again i will install the better battery stats as 696 suggested and post my results.

In my pretty long android experience this happens all the time with new phones, after updates.. You can do anything you want (cleaning cache, restart, etc), but it gets finally better by itself after a couple of days.
Don't ask me why, but it works like that.
Battery life of Razr i is excellent, best of all phones (incl iphones) I ever had!
Good luck and have some patience - so simple is that!

Recommended is to charge the new Phone full, before you turn it on the first time. A lil bit patience is needed, but that should help to avoid stuff like this.
And as the Guy above already posted, the battery will calibrate during daily use. It's the same, when you flash or update an Rom. You'll see the "real battery drain" first after a couple of Charges. And don't wipe battery stats in CWM, that's useless.

I have the same problem phone never gets to 100% it was going to 98% but this morning it was at 97%, thinking of sending it back as it only three weeks old...it should have come right a this stage.

Did you manage to get to the bottom of the question?
I bought my Razr i 3 weeks ago, I had high expectations about the battery, but the battery only lasts about one day and half, is this normal? I am not a heavy user.
