New Motorola RAZR i battery drains quickly - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I bought the Motorola Razr I yesterday, I been using it all day today.
But the battery is abnormally short. It drops very fast min 10% per hour to 27% per hour. I don't think this is normal for a new phone. The battery temperature is 38°c on normal use.
Am I using the phone wrong or did I get a faulty phone?.
I have nfc on all the time until 23% but after that I turned off nfc to see if that was the problem but it didn't seem to be.
I can get screen captures if needed.

you need some circles from full to down then you will se the real power.
but the battery with stock rom is not so great as with the custom rom from omar or max.
i dont think your battery is faulty give it some tryes!
and at least you csn not easy change the battery by yourself

You might wanna figure out what is actually draining your battery. Search XDA for 'better battery stats' and install it. When your phone is not beeing used it should stay in deep sleep for most of the time, if not, check wakelocks to see whats keeping it from sleeping. For me it was mostly Google Now which caused the drain.

ok so the more i use the battery the better results i may get?
One of the reasons i bought this phone was because of the review on battery life e.g. http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/motorola-razr-i-1098183/review/9
Now i have done a wipe of cache and data, did a factory reset. Charged from 10% to 100%. Getting the last few % is hard, this morning i woke up and it was still 99%. Went back after 1 hour to check it was 99% and dropped to 98% while the phone is off and charging.
Once its 100% again i will install the better battery stats as 696 suggested and post my results.

In my pretty long android experience this happens all the time with new phones, after updates.. You can do anything you want (cleaning cache, restart, etc), but it gets finally better by itself after a couple of days.
Don't ask me why, but it works like that.
Battery life of Razr i is excellent, best of all phones (incl iphones) I ever had!
Good luck and have some patience - so simple is that!

Recommended is to charge the new Phone full, before you turn it on the first time. A lil bit patience is needed, but that should help to avoid stuff like this.
And as the Guy above already posted, the battery will calibrate during daily use. It's the same, when you flash or update an Rom. You'll see the "real battery drain" first after a couple of Charges. And don't wipe battery stats in CWM, that's useless.

And also try disabling Google Now (search for that if you don't know how).

I have the same problem phone never gets to 100% it was going to 98% but this morning it was at 97%, thinking of sending it back as it only three weeks old...it should have come right a this stage.

Did you manage to get to the bottom of the question?
I bought my Razr i 3 weeks ago, I had high expectations about the battery, but the battery only lasts about one day and half, is this normal? I am not a heavy user.

standby battery drain?

Sooo. I have had my Optimus 2X for 2 days now. I charged the phone fullt before goint to bed and left wifi on. (should turn off when phone sleeps)
The first night i lost about 3% of the battery. Great....
But... The second night i lost 42%!!!
I have been trying to investigate the issue and after some digging with spare parts i found out the wifi was on all the time the second night... Also for some reason car home allways runs in the background (starts at boot and restarts if killed) and spare parts claims car home uses the phone sensors 100% of the time.
Anyone else having battery draining issues?
Im going to charge 100% again tonight and run with no installed user apps. If the problem persists i try and freez some of the loads of sys apps that run in the background all the time.
I also noticed some battery drain on mine but not over 40%... its more like 20%. The battery really disappoints me anyway. I have to recharge two or three times a day?l maybe thr battery needs to get trained over time, I hope...

My battery already holds up alot better now, then when i got the phone four days ago.
About 60-70% left after a 14 hour day with some surfing, benching and calling/texting. Much better then my Desire on stock ROM, but still nowhere near the Desire on custom ROM.
Looking forward to some community goodness
BTW, removing carhome.apk seems to make quite the difference.

Quick question about best used on the battery ...
Should we dry the battery to 0 for the first cycle ?
Or only to 20% ?
Is it bad if we start to charge the phone whent the battery is at 60% ?
On the contrary:
modern Li-Ion batteries don't like it if you discharge them to a minimum. Moreover they don't have the memory effect that you seem concerned about.
In a nutshell: Charge your phone whenever you can, at any charge level. Your battery will thank you.
On the first few charges though, you should always charge to 100% to help the battery gain her full efficiency
hey thx about those informations
but then i'm concerned about people saying stuff like "have been doing 3 life circle" for me it does mean they put the battery dry clean ...
Went to bed with 64% charge on the battery. When I woke up (8 hours later), still 64%.

What's your usage like?
Hmm... My phone last for 6 hours before drained... Had it for a week now... Takes about 2 hours to fully charge up again..
I even hardreset, turned of wifi etc... but alas, 6 hours and it was out of power again...
And that was just by being in standby.
If I actually use the phone, I can see the percentages going down from 100 - 0 in no time..

[Q] Battery Life

Last friday purchased HTC Incredible S, since I'm kinda hardcore user of phones (previously had old crap Samsung Tocco Lite - was surfing on internet + listening music, without problem could survive 10-12hrs nonstop use), now when I tried same with Incredible S, it end up that after 2-3 hrs of surfing + some app using for awhile, I ended up at 30-35% from 100%. I did turned all syncs off, brightness to minimums, turned of almost everything and all tasks, so it was just like test for how long surviving it with no internet(wifi/mobile),any sync, any sound/vibration and low brightness - it survived 1 hour longer then before. Like srsly 400£ worth phone with battery what can't hold even 6 hrs?
P.S. first try with apps and such was record for 4 hrs, next test without any apps etc etc survied 5 hrs...

I'm seeing this aswell. The more i use my phone the better the battery gets.
my battery does last 1day 12-15hr. All sync on, mobile networks on, background sync on. Normal use, that is incredible.
well when i first got my IS, the battery life is ridiculously short, from 100% -> 20% in 2 hrs of intense use!
But the battery life is getting better at day 3 (around 5x full charge cycle), do the calibration thing, use till 1%, but make sure phone is not dead, and recharge to 100%, redo for like 5 times.
If battery life still sucks, i think you get a bad battery
My battery lasts 9 hours of intense use (Wifi,3G,Games,Surf net,Listen to music)
Hello
I have installed Battery Monitor Widget Pro to check battery consumption. You can see so which are the applications that drain more your battery, tipically the display.
My battery runs one full day, even one and half with Wifi and BT always ON and normal telephone usage but if I switch on 3G it decrease rapidly and sometimes cannot reach one full day.
So in my case the 3G connection drains a lot.
Stefano
I've had mine since late april and I get a whole day, at least, out of it. Yesterday, I actually went 24 hours without charging it and I still had 30% left. The only "syncs" that are on, are my gmail, weather and Whatsapp. I can definitely confirm it gets better with time!
has anyone ordered from Amazon.Co.Uk, I was wondering if they can refund for phone, so I can take instead HTC Sensation :/
Anyways, I got this phone like 3-4 days ago, now I'm trying to maximally drain it with apps/games to get that battery life up
sense drains your battery...
and also 3g drains it if you have a unstable connection
what i allways do is out of the box, drain it 100%
charge it 100%
drain it 100%
charge it 100% and your done...
might be a ghost story, but surely seems to work for me, however 12hours and mine is empty as fk, with gaming, bad 3g connection, wifi, gtalk etc.etc. aka daily usage..
but thats cuz im running cyanogenmod, which isnt 100% stable yet
Do people not read anything these days? You're complaining about battery life of a smart phone... None of them last longer than a day or two max. Not to mention it's a new toy and you can find yourself on it more often. Checking the battery constantly kills your battery. Tones of widgets kill your battery.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
I do understand about 1-2 days of uptime for phone is ok, but mine doesn't survive even 6h +_+ , contacted HTC and they said that battery is fauly.
ANyways... I dont use widgets and actually turned of all sync and stuff like that to prevent battery drain, even in airplane mode, it drains from 40 to 5% (to complete dead) in about 1-2 hrs
I find battery life pretty poor. After charging to 100%, it can be down to 90% within half an hour - without really even using the phone. I can turn on the phone at 7am, and it will be down to between 50 and 40% by 11pm, never normally enough to get through the next day.
I'm going to try some overclocking to see if that helps.

Overclocking will drain even more battery, downgrade better speed of it and it should save battery
I've found that for the first few weeks of having the phone, the battery life will be crap... cause you're generally always messing around with it.
Lately I've been getting two work days out of a charge (6am to ~6pm the next day). I rooted the phone, uninstalled a bunch of bloatware, and set it to underclock when the screen is off (although I'm having issues with that one at the moment).
I'm thinking to buy other phone instead of this (amazon is accepting this for refund/replacement now), so I was thinking if it's worth take Sensation instead of Incredible S?

[Q] Nexus One Battery Life Problem

Hi, I've been reading through xda-developers forums for a long time now and i'm happy to say you all have helped me through all the problems i've ever face with my N1. This is my first thread here. Sadly, with a weird problem.
I've had the N1 since google first gave it to its employees till this January, then i got the Gnex. So, I gave my N1 to my mom cuz' she seemed to like it. Anyway, until the day i handed it over to her I used to get a solid 24 ~ 40 hours of battery life on normal day-to-day usage. I factory reset the phone and handed it over to her. Since she got it, she's been complaining that the battery doesn't last more than 3 or 4 hours and it gets ridiculously hot when charging (stock battery). So, I told her to get a new battery from amazon and she did. But, the problem still persists with this new battery too.
It's running on Stock rom.
So, any suggestions please?
You can benchmark you battery life time with this application :
Battery Drain
I was used to have 5% per hour with my stock rom. But When using it much a day, I could reach more than 25%/hour. Wich correspond to 4 hour of battery life

[Q] Bad Battery Life?

Is the O4X's battery life as bad as gsmarena is saying? Just a little over 4 hours of video playback and 4 hours of web browsing?
If you read the comments of the blog article on it, you will see that there is a lot of discussion over the brightness.
By comparison to the SGS3 and One X, the Optiums has a much brighter screen which will mean a lower battery life. Of course if they set all the phones to the same actual brightness (not percentage) the numbers would be different.
I am currently waiting delivery of my 4X, but after I have conditioned the battery (let the handset configure itself to the battery), I'll definitely be seeing what its capable of.
Alright thanks, I hope you'll be able to get back to this thread when you find out more.
I've had mine since friday and I think I've charged it about 3 or 4 times now and the battery life is getting better. It lasted only about 2 hours when I first charged it and started it for the first time. But I was using it constantly.
Today I started it in the morning (fully charged) before going to work and now, 10 pm, it's been on for about 16 hours and I have 40% left. Data have been on all day and I've been signed in to Google Talk all day, I've browsed the web for a total of aprox. 1 hour, used the camera, tested the GPS and been chatting with a friend on talk. So I'm pretty satisfied so far.
It's better than my O2X.

That's good to hear. How many hours was the screen on?
I'm not sure unfortunately. But i would say between 2-4 hours.
Edit: okay it was a little less than I thought. The. Battery usage in settings says the screen have been on for two and a half hours. And that's including the time I have used after 40%. I'm down to 25% now.
My Battery lasts after a few cycles all over two Days with medium Usage (No gaming - WA, FB, eMail)........
i ca go for 1 day, with a bit gaming and usual use.
I have slightly longer battery life on my 4X HD than on my Nexus S when using the phones in the same way (casual use). But I think there is room for improvment on the battery life with more optimized software either from LG or when we start seeing custom roms for this device.
I charged mine to 100% and just dropped 8% in 25 minutes, 20 minutes of that was driving and not using the phone, no Bluetooth or anything like that. The battery life is shocking and can't wait for extended ones to become available. Besides that I truly love this phone

How many complete charge cycles have you done?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
When I got my p880 I did 3 battery cycles, and I could only get about 8 hours of standby alone, no other use at all. I then did a factory reset and formatting of the memory card, which I hadn't done when I switched from my old SE X8. Now my p880 can easily go more than a day with some gaming, calls, browsing etc. My guess is that old android files on the memory card was the reason for the bad battery life. No expert though, maybe someone else has a better idea.
Today I tried the Chrome browser, and it really drained the battery. Something like 20% after browsing for 15 mins. Anybody else have experience with this?
Overall I'm really happy with this phone, great screen, fluid operation, good battery.
I've had battery drainage issues with the chrome browser as well. Even in stand-by the browser would drain the battery. It has only happened like two times for me in the four weeks i've had the phone, so not a biggy but still something you should be aware of, if you experience battery drainage issues

There's no need to cycle with li-ion or li-po batteries. In fact it's explicitly bad for your battery to run it down to 0.

Running your battery from 100% to 0% is useful in recalibrating the battery in the event of cell mismatches, which can happen over time.

Here's a very good post for information about li-ion / lithium polymer batteries:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40596097&postcount=3
You generally shouldn't need to recalibrate the battery on a new phone (since it's a new battery), but it doesn't hurt if you think your battery may be mis-calibrated. (for example, your phone sits at 0% battery for long amounts of time) Do you have any apps that monitor wakelocks on your phone?
i was complaining my battery was crap yesterday. iv gained 1 hour in battery since yesterday.
GSam reported 9hours 24mins avg battery yesterday. I cycled it once since then and today its showing 10 hours 38mins avg.
Hoping for further improvements.
The phone needs to know where empty and full battery is. I've always calibrated mine by fully charging and killing at least twice with every phone I've owned and had no il effects and got much better battery life afterwards.
So do I calibrate or cycle? If so, how do I do that? Im fully stock and the only battery app I have is the battery guru made for snapdragon devices. Idk if that's what's killing my battery.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
It does no harm to run the battery to 0% occasionally, but the advice i have seen is to try to not run li-ion / li-po batteries below 10% too often as that can shorten their life.
For a new device i would run it down to around 10% with normal use, then give it a real long charge till it indicates fully charged, then unplug it and wait a minute or so then plug it back in and leave it on charge another couple of hours to make sure it is fully 100% charged.
After you have done this whole procedure maybe 3 times, you should have a properley conditioned battery. My HTC One is usually at 50% or better after a 12 hour working day, so i am more than happy with the battery life.

You are totally wrong I am afraid. LiON and LiPO batteries do not have memories and neither like a complete discharge/recharge cycle. The rule is 'a little and often' as far as charging is concerned.

They do NOT have memory effect like nickel-based batteries, but they CAN suffer from cell mismatches which require re-calibration (aka fully charging, discharging, and recharging).

My experience and questions
Thanks for this excellent post! I got my new HTC One day before yesterday and like the Vincent's post says, the phone had about 40-50% of charge when it came in the box. I was very excited to see the phone that I totally forgot about recalibration of the battery
I used the phone out of the box, and I have charged from 2 nights (from about 15% to 100% charge) and haven't run the battery the battery down to 0% yet (when I say 0% what I mean is the level of charge when the phone automatically turns itself off to protect from complete discharge). My questions below:
1) What should I do now to accurately calibrate my battery life? When I called HTC customer service today they asked me to do battery reset (steps below).
- Untick the quick boot under settings -> power
- Turn off the phone
- Hold down the volume up, volume down and the power button continuously for 1 minute (the phone seem to boot up and shut down 3-4 times during this process)
- Run your battery all the way down to 0% and then charge it fully to 100%
This seems to be a fair procedure but since it was told by customer service, I'm a bit skeptical. So I would very much love to hear some opinion of battery gurus here
2) Does the 2 night charging that I did affect my battery capacity (has the dent been made already)?
Please let me know, and thanks in advance!
PS. The battery life in my experience in the past 2 days has been decent (I have about 20% from 7am - 9pm) and I'm a moderate-heavy user!
