Battery problem on JellyBean - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm using a Galaxy S Advance with 4.1.2 XXLPZ + ThunderZap Reloaded 3.5, and i have a big problem with my battery.
Battery in my i9070 sometimes dropping for example from 50% to 45% in a few seconds. This happens several times on a single charge..
I think it isn't normal.

Sometimes I get 100% to 96% drop...

I also have this on Gingerbread, but on JB it happens more often.

You can remove apps that work in background... FB, chat apps. Turn off WIFI or 3G. Turn only 2G network.
You do not want to? Then live with it.

i have the same config and the same problem on battery ... i have dezactivated GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Auto rotation, Network, Sincronization and i have the luminosity on very low... i don't have any chat apps .. only stock ChatON
my CPU config is Max 1GHZ min 200MHz on guvernator : conservative and I/O set on sio
And with all of these my battery life is about 1 day without playing a small game more than 30 min/day

I think the battery is undersized.
If we turn off all features why do we need smart phone?

When i was on gingerbread my battery would last about two days if phone was not used much.If i left fone overnight and wake up in the morning, the battery drop would b 1% or sometimes same as i left b4!!
But since i upgraded to jellybean,my battery dsnt even last a day.Overnight drop is about 25-30%(huge from before).
Do u guys also hv the same prob?
I am rooted and using tz 3.5(same prob was there on stock jb also,so i dont think its the kernel).
I am a hardcore battery saver(haha,i use total black wallpaper as i heard amoled screen dsnt consume power to show black, lowest brightness, swtich off wifi/gps/bluetotth etc when not in use)but still my battery dsnt last long enuf as it did in gb.
So is there a solution to this,or its the way jb is and nothing can be done
PS:- I read about battery calibration in the forums, and did it but it dint change nything.

Another thing I have found to help save battery with JB:
Enable JIT: echo "dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit" >>/system/build.prop
Also: remove Samsung bloatware - some of them get started in the background and consume power.
Here is the list of things I remove:

Tom, sorry I don't know scripts so could you be so kind and explain what these commands means or do?

Battery Issues & Testing
Till now jellybean for me on this device has been great.... works like a charm... first thing go to developers mode enable it and set background apps to 1 , 2, 3 or 4 which ever pleases you it clears all background apps which you dont wana use! next thing clear out all samsung bloatware junk if your rooted thats goana help alot, also the final thing if your not a big fan of high colours so lower your brightness level... follow these points and everything is perfect and dandy

i found some apps that work for me and made my phone smother and faster but needs root acces and 10 minutes time for configurate them, the apps are :
Pimp my ROM (Alpha) this need to be configurated as you like
SGS Touchscreen Booster set preset "super optimized" and check "start service at boot"
Memory Optimizer(Root) set as fast mode and then appy
After all setting restart the phone
Here you have my build.prop is from XXLPZ version with Thunderzap 3.5 kernel and Pimp My Rom installed so if you have these you can use it but i recomand to back up your own build.prop
P.S. I'm not responsable if will not work for you... you will need to install after that Sony BRAVIA Engine 2 and xLoud & ClearAudio+ for these only go to APPS & MODS then to each app after only click on each install but dont restart after that enter recovery mod and you will have in the sdcard a folder named pymp my rom there you'll find the zip packages install them after that reboot

Just kitchen tricks ... only intention here was to get rid of lg apps that run in background even though they arent being used ... other apps n widgets remain untouched cos they cause no harm unless being used .... so this is pretty close to stock, only optimised ...

thanks, i will try it soon..
could you provide any screenshot?
You will have to do lot more than kitchen tricks so that people use and appreciate ur work. Removing stock app is easy buddy any one who is flashing roms will know how to do it with rooted uninstaller.
If u want ur rom to go places than put in a kickass ui, put latest wpa_supplicant (to start with), put all media codecs in the world made for armv6, improve speed, may be find all the lib .so made for our device put it in, may be adobe flash (to much to ask) etc etc than ur talking.
Ofcourse others rom has bugs they are compiling 4GB of code if not more.
Start with putting screenshots.
Its nice that ur sharing ur work.

Thats quite a nice performance.(Although I got confused at first with your description. Maybe you wanna indent everything under Battery life just to make it clear.) Was the tests done with only the ROM, or did you use another kernel with it?

[Q] Huge Ram Problem on SlimBean Build 5

Hi everybody
Since I've installed SlimBean Build 5 my Galaxy S crashes about 5 times a day. This means suddendly it freezes and you can just power it off.
Also it's sometimes very laggy und sometimes the keyboard don't work because it have to reset it.
Active Apps are:
-Whatsapp
-Voodoo Sound
-Virtual Button Bar
-3G Watchdog Pro
-Facebook (don't know how to disable it, I don't need photo upload etc.)
-BetterBatteryStats
-DashClock Widget
-Google Services
-DSP Manager (don't need this one)
-Keyboard
What's your experience with Build 5. And are there any solutiones or tricks to get it better?
I would recommend you to use greenify to hibernate apps like facebook that the constant background processes stop spawning then use slimizer to remove the unwanted apks like dsp manager from /system/app. Oh, and i hope you did a flash with full wipe cause beside some sad memory leaks that let me reboot nearly every day because the ram is getting full :/ it should be pretty stable.
Freezes...did you live oc or undervolt? Maybe your voltages are too high/low
And update to build 5.7 they fixed some memory leaks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
thank you very muuch
I always flash with full wipe and befor Build 5 I had always 115% Live OC but since Build 5 I think it isn't stable anymore.
Edit:
So I'm now on 5.7 with 115% Live OC
But now I have the following Problem: Sometimes it freezes for like 1 sec and then reboots to the recovery.
Is this related to the live OC or is it still a Ram Problem?
OC problem, do u really need OC?
Yes it was defenitly an OC Problem, set it to 0% yesterday and since then no freeze
No I think I don't need it, I just did automatically ^^
if problem solved, then enjoy android, but really, read my second signature when u feel like experimenting something.

Check this thread ...Live OC for 115% is buggy while 114% and 116% percent are not....
Try 114 or 116 percent.
If it is still not working you have to set the voltages manually.
When you live oc' custom voltages are increased automatically a bit....it can be that the automatic voltage increase is not enough, then you have to set custom voltages manually....
I use it since 5-6 days without OC and it works fine
But thank you anyway

as far as I know changing the VM heap size causes the battery drain.
higher VM heap means better performance and more battery use I recommend setting it to 32..
also there has been some controversies over battery drain by seeder..

Solve 51mhz Deep Sleep Bug on Stock Rom

Hey guys, a lot of you have problems with Battery Life right ? One Problem is, that your phone cant go into deep sleep right ? Its because of some bloatwares
My phone was always in 51mhz ... so i decided to freeze Google Maps, Email, Emailwidget and Disables MLT and remove MLT apk, After that I had tons of deepsleep !
You can freeze it during Titanium Backup or Link2sd (both free on Google Play)

Its a big no for that..The " baseband_xmm_wakelock " is from the kernel itself, i mean stock kernel...Ive been playing around to solve it but apparently it still there unless using custom kernel, which im using roight now iodak kernel, that doesnt have that baseband wakelock...
I found a way to reduce battery consumption with stock...In stock V20a, the LGMLT.apk doesnt exists (in my case)...So i just frozen almost all unused system apps, enable EcoMode within hidden function...And by altering the fast dormancy table databases...Im able to get almost a day with battery from 100% - 5%....

Some user on v20a reports that it does gives extra battery juice and some not..But the thing is, it it function to be like that, no matter

For your information, that version in Play Store doesnt work with Jellybean...As the last time it was updated is mid 2012...Now mid 2013...
I'll post the command to get it running later on...
Anyway you could obtain the same effect using ds battery saver, this block the connection request from the phone and starts it only when you decide it
It saves a lot of battery.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.batrsaverpro
I guess an app of this should be included in the phone since the O4X is programmed to drain a lot of battery if you don't stop connection attempts.

What's the most stable non-TouchWiz rom ?

Hello,
I generally don't like these kind of the questions as I always prefer to explore the Development section to try out the roms myself but I'm currently on vacation and a relative asked me to help her speed up her Galaxy S Advance. I just don't have time to spend a day flashing roms.
So, what I'm looking for is a fast and stable rom. Don't care if it's not KitKat and "only" JellyBean or if it ain't the fastest either. I suppose it's going to be AOSP/CM based as I doubt any TouchWiz Rom will do.
Any suggestion ?
Thank you !
Also, it needs to be fully functional...

This kind of question is not allowed, but in this special case only...
Search for CM 10.1 build 20131117 if you want something really stable, incredibly fast and with awesome battery life.
Or search for CM 10.2, use latest build available. Less battery life but nothing big.
Stay away from KitKat ROMs if she needs long battery life.
You can find ROMs on our Dev-Host, under janice folder
For that CM 10.1 build search in its thread.
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505
Thank you very much, I'll look into the 10.1 build!
May be I am late. But one should check out carbon Rom kitkat 4.4.4 by Flo0008 if they want a fast and battery friendly and bugless and most stable Rom. It gives me 7+ hours of continuous web browsing in 3g for a 2 year old battery. (nearly 8 hours off total screen on before getting low battery warning). Awesome.

7~8 (and less than seven) hours of screen on are totally impossible on this device, unless you install CM10.1 and heavy modify some things. Even less if a kitkat ROM, even less if your battery is 2 years old, even less if you count that other kitkat ROMs don't last more than 3/3.30 hours screen on and all these ROMs come from one only device tree, the Team Canjica one!
I think that here in this forum I'm the only one (or almost) that reached more than 7 hours of screen on time with original battery and using CM10.1 with a lot of mods. And trust me, it's impossible in any other way

@AntaresOne I am not always getting 7+ hours (may be once or twice) But definitely getting 6+ hours of web browsing (with a white browser background). I have achieved it even today. For me kitkat is always more battery friendly when compared to stock jellybean. I will post my screen time screenshots when I get time. I particularly want to mention that with abyssplug governor, most of the time cpu frequency idles at 100mhz. I am motoring it with cooltools module. May be that's a reason.
BTW, I have never flashed cm 10.x. All I have tried was, Jetmod, Resurrection remix, liquid smooth, slimkat and dirty unicorns. But I am settling with Carbon kitkat.
Additional info: sync off, wifi off, google backup off, freezed launcher 3, Google contacts sync, Auto brightness off, screen set to bare minimum brightness, Google play auto update and update notifications off, zram off, ksm off, empty_apps minfree set to 150.
All animation scales set to 0.15x, lcd_density set to 182.
xposed running, seeder running, using adaway.
No live wallpaper, using a pitch black wallpaper sized just 256.00 bytes and apex launcher.
50+ user apps installed. Most resource intensive processes running most of the time are com.andrioid.systemui and ds.cpuoverlay(cooltools module).

Right now my battery is almost full. I will post my screenshots after using for a while normally with screen on browsing and when my battery is low.
By the way, I am not using the carbon final build. Because, hover is removed from that build. I am using the pre final build 19. Carbon is rock solid for me. The only thing that was not working was magnetic sensor. But after calibration using advanced tools pro magnetic sensor working fine.
In the past I did used a lot of init.d scripts, mods, supercharger script and whatever that can be found in the internet. The only thing that gave me some performance boost was crossbreeder. But I am tired of them all and now using no mods or scripts.

I think that it would be good to other users to share all those scripts that gave you 7 hours of screen on. BTW I never had more than 2:30 screen on since I was on JB.

This means that your device is fkin'...something.
My battery lasted 7 hours on CM10.1 without disabling these things and with wifi on all the day. Somewhere in this forum there's the screenshot:
V6 supercharger, entropy at 4096, pegasusq+sio, disable unneeded system apps, auto brightness on, trebuchet, nice colored wallpaper, something else that I don't remember now.
90+ user apps (6.44GB /data partition and 32GB /sdcard swapped)
Just in case

@AntaresOne it is always helpful to have someone like you in the forum. Being a linux user for a long time I know how to partion /data using gparted. But if somehow I manage to resize to say 3gb instead of default 2gb, then in case of emergency I am in need to flash stock JB, will it conflict?

Right now, I mean for almost 1 month am not using any script or mod. But crossbreeder helped a bit in performance and battery saving in the past, because I could often notice the second core goes offline most of the time when not needed while using crossbreeder script and abyssplug governor.

Yes, but you are not getting 7 hours screen on anymore? How much is it now?

I got 7+ hrs once or twice yes. But I am getting 6+ hrs for the last 20 days frequently without any script or mod. So, I am happy with what I am getting now.
I am not saying heavy mutitasking or watching YouTube gives me this battery life. But I am getting this is with very moderate multitasking and mostly browsing.

Ok, please leave screenshot when you can. I want to know if I need to change my battery. I am not getting more than 2:30. Thanks.

I am not stressing you but you may try crossbreeder script latest from here:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150 (If you already know about it, then ignore). Also download his entropy app and turn on all three switches and reboot once. Do note that it will disable other entropy related apps automatically(seeder will not run - as it is not required).

Here you can find the secret about repartition [emoji57]
And yes, if something goes wrong just reflash stock JB, using correct PIT file for your model, enabling "Repartition" in Odin

Sorry for disturbing you, but my question is will any conflict occur in flashing stock JB, because of the partition sizes differing from stock rom. (If I understand correctly, enabling repartition will automatically reformat the disk sizes and the modified partition table will get reset- RIGHT?)

Repartition is not intended to be used on any stock-based ROM, but only on custom ROMs (4.2-4.3-4.4), read OP in that thread for better infos. Enabling repartition will restore stock EMMC's GPT resetting any kind of modification. Using Odin's repartition option along with correct PIT file (in that thread there are PITs for i9070/i9070p 8/16GB models) it's safe, don't worry
