Hi,
I am on Onecosmic 3.1, I tried flashing 4.2, after flashing 4.2 I lost phone signal, it is saying No Service. Again I went back to old 3.1 version, no problem with signal.
So, Please help what should I do to flash 4.2 version on my phone.
Edited: Thanks everyone, I made it work flashing different modem.
Thanks in Advance,
Ajay
Check imei number. Version 4.1 & 4.2 have been corrupting imei number which causes no network

Hmm, for me, in ICSSGS 4.2, I do have phone signal and full service, however, when I pull down my Notification bar, it displays "No service.", which, fortunately, is a lie
Thanks for reply,
So is there any solution for this?
Thanks,
Ajay
I'm a semi noob at the technical stuff, but I seem to remember that this issue can be solved by restoring the backup you have surely made of your EFS folder . This folder contains all the info about your carrier and such.
If you don't have a backup of your EFS folder, I cannot help you with my limited knowledge
Follow these at your own risk or search the forums for a more thorough explanation.
If you have made a backup use something like root explorer to look for the EFS folder in the backup & copy the two files nv_data.bin & nv_data.bin.md5. Now go to the EFS folder on the phone & paste over these to files replacing them with your backups. You can then delete nv.log, .nv_data.bak & nv_data.bak.md5. Or that is what I did and it worked.
If you did not make a backup then you would need to flash a stock rom which usually does the trick (all three files). As your IMEI appears to be fine in v3.1 I would make a backup of 3.1 & use those files. You could also copy the two files out of the efs folder and place them in your root directory then after installing 4.2 just replace the files with the ones you copied.

Many pepole who flashed RC4.1 experienced this problem, its due to the IMEI being changed to some default value. this can be fixed if you had backed up your efs folder, if not you have to reflash the official gingerbread then copy the efs folder using ROOT EXPLORER, this will fix the corrupted IMEI issue. This issue has been fixed in RC4.2 so after you get your IMEI fixed, flash RC4.2.

I seem to have the same problem, sometimes my phone reboots, and radio is gone. When I check, IMEI-N° isn't displayed, but after some reboots its back.
I did back up the EFS Folder, but how can I stop this from happening on a regular basis?

If you restored your EFS backup it should be ok...but since is happening many times...you can reflash a stock firmware and then flash again your current ROM.

By "backing up" you mean just copy/paste it to the respective folder?
Hello guys. This happened to me as well with onecosmic ICS RC4.2. Will be lashing back stock GB fw as I do not have an efs backup
Hi,
I have tried flashing 4.2 again and checked IEMI number, no change in IEMI number but no Network. It is saying Emergency Calls.
My phone works only in Rc1 or 3.1.
Please help me what should I do, I dont have efs backup.
Thanks,

Hi ajay_lanki
the latest Team ICSSGS Build has a script to fix efs folder permission, which should solve the problem. Threat:

First: RC4.2 doesn't solve IMEI issue, i had it with 4.1, resotred efs, it worked, flashed 4.2, and issue again.
Second: The best way to restore /efs backup is going into /efs BACKUP (not original), multiselect every file, copy, and paste in ACTUAL /efs folder. Then reboot and that's it. If no /efs backup was ever made, the only way to solve imei loss is to go back to a stock rom (wich makes your imei come back), backup /efs from there and go ahead with ICSSGS again.

I've had the same issue. No matter how many times you re-flash the ROM and do FULL wipe, I wont change anything, because FULL wipe is not really "FULL", neither is Factory reset etc. For some reason it needs a "real-FULL-wipe" (Just something I made lol). Anyway you can do it following these steps:
1. Flash an NONE ICS based ROM, say JVU stock ROM .(Download it from Sammobile.com, go into download mode, and flash it using Odin 1.85 with 512 pit file)
(You are on a Stock JVU ROM now)
2. ROOT you JVU ROM. (Any method is fine but I prefer flashing Semphore kernel using Odin, just download the kernel from here, go into download mode, and put the kernel in PDA section and flash, no pit files needed for this).
(You are on a ROOTed Stock JVU ROM now)
3. Flash CM7 stock ROM. (Download CM7 stable version not a nightly version from their website, copy it to your INTERNAL SD Card, go into CWM and flash. If you had issues there just re-flash).
(You are on a stable version of CM7 that is already Pre-rooted)
4. Flash Onecosmic 4.2. (Download it, copy it to INTERNAL SD Card, go into CWM and flash, sometimes it gets stuck on a boot loop or on logo screen, go into CWM using the three buttons combo :Volume up button + Power + Home key. Once you're in CWM re-flash it again.
Do this and I will guarantee that it will solve ANY problem you or anyone else have with Onecosmic ICS 4.2.
Only problem you may encounter with the ROM is External SD card issues, which is caused by either the ROM itself or your own SD card.
A >> "thank you" would be nice . Have a good one.
I'm on Captivate #4, which is replacement #3 because the geniuses at AT&T believe the last phone I had was the cause of poor signal. The others were replaced for different reasons and I'm not convinced a new phone will help the signal but it looks like I'll wind up re-flashing it and returning the one I'm sending back AT&T back to stock. I've noticed after flashing the last two phones that it breaks the IMEI so that it displays a generic one(004999010640000). What's the best ICS based ROM that I can flash that won't break it again this time? If I knew what to back up I could do that too and just back it up before flashing to SlimICS. I tried following some guides to restore it on the other phones, but it didn't work for whatever reason. I know the /efs folder gets backed up, but then what?

Hello,
I've had my cappy for almost 2 years now... I could be just lucky, but never had a problem and I flashed all sorts of Roms.
Anyway it wouldn't be a bad idea to backup your whole EFS folder and there is also a couple apps to backup and restore your IMEI.
I'm currently on Ics Remix and love it... No IMEI problem smooth as butter... No sleep of death and battery is really good. I'm using the Roms kernel devil.... Which is what you want anyway.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using Tapatalk 2
I'd always made a backup but always forget where I put it or what I called it.. I think my luck it was on the phone itself and got wiped out, go figure. Not too sure though.
I've been trying to Change the ROM in my phone all day and I've had no luck.
I first tried Slim Bean and that worked no problems BUT...
I had a blank IMEI which means I cannot make calls and I also learnt that you can't go from GB to JB, you need to go in steps of each ICS
I think If I go back to 2.3.3, copy or back up the /efs files or something then go back to Slim Bean then copy them that MIGHT work but I haven't tried it.
[Would be nice if SlimROMs just kept Play Store in the Rom, it would make things easier but they don't call it slim for no reason!]
So I went back to 2.3.3 using an Ezbase Recovery and I've been trying to Install ICS ROMs and they have ALL failed when installing causing a boot loop.
I've tried Cyanogen 9, 9.1.0, Slim ICS and a few other I cannot remember.
Is their something I am missing? a certain kernel? Need to upgrade to 2.3.6?
I really just want to get to Jelly Bean, I've tried it first hand Via SlimROM and it's like BUTTER but It's useless at the moment if I cannot get my IMEI or network provider showing up.
Thank you in advance.

ok, for upgrades from GB to ICS, you need a 2.3.6 bootloader, you can use Ezboot without changing ROM ( link in My Android collections) and a CWM by flashing a semaphore kernel. Here you backup your EFS.
In ICS ( follow guide by developer of your chosen ROM) , you may need to flash twice, as first flash may give you boot loops
Worked like a charm.
You've been so helpful since I joined XDA.
I wish I had money to spare for the help but I massive thanks is all I can give at the moment!
Hello, I'm using Semaphore + CM10 JB for few weeks (installed with your support).
However I have a problem. The stability. My phone likes to resets byself, even few times per day. It happens irregularly. What's interesting, sometimes phone resets to the CWM. Sometimes resets and backs to work, sometimes totally offs the phone (and i need to pull out the battery) or freeze on cyanogenmod start screen (but not on normal start, only when resets)
Sometimes it happens when i'm using the phone, sometimes not. He likes to do that when i'm sleeping (for example, goes to the CWM and discharge the battery by whole night on full bright).
And much smaller, but maybe important issue: when the phone starts, shows the message Warning! A problem was detected with your device. Your device IMEI number is invalid. And invalid IMEI number could cause network issues including the inability to call emergency numbers.
Firstly I installed CM10, i had the problems with the network, but after @xsenman's help (reinstall with older ROM before flashing CM10) everything works correctly and i can see IMEI too. I made an EFS backup in that old ROM, should i use that? This message doesn't intrude me, but i'm just thinking if this could be connected with reseting problems. My SGS works really nice, but that one issue is really annoying.
100 views and really no one can help?
Come on, i feel so lonely
I'd recommend flashing a clean GB stock, restoring your IMEI, flashing CM9 twice and then flashing CM10 ROMs (if you want them lol). Always be sure that you wipe your phone after installs.

thanks for your answer. However, maybe it's not a ROM problem? Maybe some application makes an issue. Is there any log where i can check that?
That IMEI stuff definitely isn't app-caused. I can only repeat my statement above. Don't worry about data, you can backup everything using Titanium Backup and SMS Backup+.
Btw: What ROM are you on?
Best regards
Sent from my Gameboy Color
True, IMEI not, but it's not a real issue for me. Actually, i'm absolutely satisfied of my i9000 (maybe flashlight absence, but it's hardware). Everything works fine, but reseting problem makes me nervous when I use the phone as car dvr or for endomondo ect.
I use Cyanogenmod 10, one of october's nightly versions.
So basically you don't want to change anything but you want us to help you? Sorry, that's not the way a community works.
You didn't understand me. My problem is phone reseting. I want to find the reason of the issue. Because without it, i can install new software and still have the same problem.

Since when has this problem occurred? I doubt an app makes a phone reset itself.
Edit: I looked around your post history and you seem to have posted in the semaphore thread. Maybe something is wrong with the kernel?

Thanks for your answer. It's hard to say because I've flash a ROM and out of hand I installed the applications. It's the worst type of problems, because it doesn't happen instantly or regularly. Actually since i wrote the topic, i didn't see the problem, however i saw two-three times the attention about IMEI, so i think, the phone resets, but not seen.
/// amerkiller: you are using i9000 too, could you recommend me any other ROM? Probably I will need to install a ROM and wait, two-three days and check if the ROM makes any issues.
/// maybe, but how can i check it? It looks like work nice, my question in Semaphore's thread was about the features
I use Remics-JB, you can try it out if you want a Samsung touchwiz feel, and apps from the S3.
Slimbean if you want a minimalist ROM.
Hopefully, the problem will disappear.

Edit: regarding the kernel, you can flash Devil and see if the problem persists.

Ok, so i want to reflash my i9000. So - i have JVU's gingerbread ROM, is that correct stock ROM? Should i make the WIPE here? I'm not sure about restoring IMEI. Should i do that in GB's temporary ROM or (as I think) later in JB's? Of course, earlier I need to backup the efs folder with IMEI so i think i should do that in GB's and restore it in CM10 (or in Slimbean which I want to test). And one more doubt. You said flashing CM9 twice. Why is that? And how can I do that if i'm installing the ROM in CWM?

You can find tutorials about flashing to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Flashing the stock ROM will recover your IMEI number if you currently don't have it and will wipe your personal files. Backup your IMEI while you're on GB and if you lose it, then restore it. Fyi I never lost my IMEI, it's not common. You should flash JB / cm10 twice, ICS/cm9 should be okay after one flash. Remember to wipe if the instructions say so.
When you'll attempt to flash cm10 in recovery, you'll get a warning about partition change. You'll have to chose to flash second time, this time it should work and the phone will reboot into a bootloop. Pull out the battery and enter recovery and flash cm10 again. This time it well install and reboot successfully.

Hi, thanks for your interest
Two days ago I made a re-flash Stock > CWM > CM9 (twice) > CM10
Attention about IMEI doesn't longer appear
I've installed apps. The phone has resets for a one time when I was using some app. It is not a big problem for me if SGS makes that from time to time (maybe some apps are not adapted to the JB very well). However today I used him to record my drive (dailyroads voyager) and when i tried to stop the recording, he doesn't backs to life (just I needed to pull the battery out) and video file was corrupted. But when I was getting back to home it worked correctly. I have no idea why that's happen.

Restarts shouldn't happen that was some unusual circumstance. The video problem is weird, post here if it happens again, lets hope its just bad luck.
Ok, I'll look on it.
I have one other question and maybe you will know.
Call recording. There are two options for use this feature. Simple MIC recording apps and 'two-way call recording' which is much better, however it needs kernel with handle of it. I didn't find anyone for SGS, so I want to use MIC recording. There are many apps in Google Play. However any of them makes 0kB files of record on JB's CM10. When I was using gingerbread it didn't worked too however files were good, but the second side of call didn't hear me.

Hi there,
First of all, yes, I did stalk these forums and many others exhaustively for days before starting a thread of my own
My GT-i9070 from Hong Kong loses its IMEI when installing CyanogenMod by Team Canjica. I've had this problem with all non-official ROMs i've tried to flash on this phone, even with official ROMs from a different region.
Methods I've tried several times already:
Backing up and restoring efs and modemfs folders with dd
nvbackup and nvrestore
SynergyROM
QPST
Replacing the /system/lib/tee folder in the ROM with my original prior to flashing
Nandroid backup
I followed several guides for every method to the letter, but to no avail. Now I switch back and forth between 2 nandroid backups, the stock Samsung 4.1.2 and CyanogenMod 10.1 and 10.2 for testing. I have efs, modemfs and tee folders backed up as well, so I seem to be in no danger of losing IMEI permanently. I'll admit i'm not too deep into Android yet, but I'm not new to this kind of stuff either, as I used to develop on Maemo and Meego a few years back.
It seems to me that the Hong Kong model GT-i9070 is different from others, as at least some of the above mentioned methods apparently work for most other users. I'm thinking the modem driver might be wrong, would that be it? As I understand so far, Samsung modems are different in some parts of the world.
I have been using these forums for a while, and I'd like to contribute when I get deeper into this. In the meantime, any help is much appreciated.
Hi - i had a very similar problem, but with different ROMs (both Sami and Harsh had the same problem) - i've not tried any CM ROM yet. I've got the same handset as you, HK version and does seem be problem for HK handsets. My problem was resolved by copying back the original tee folder, but i see you have tried that already. I was planning on trying CM10.2 out...i'll let you know if i have the same issue...if you manage to resolve it, please let us know how you did it ! Good luck

Thanks for your response, good to know I'm not the only one having this issue. I'll give the tee folder method yet another try. Which ROM did you solve your problem with?
Ok, this just worked for me:
Instead of replacing the /system/lib/tee folder in the ROM prior to installation, I replaced it post-installation, rebooted, factory reset and wiped dalvik cache.
I am not sure if this will work every time, but I'm making a nandroid backup of this now. I'll try with the 10.1 CM ROM as well, see if it works there as well.
It does. Marking as solved.

yes - post installation, sorry i thought you did it post installation - if you did it pre installation surely it would just get overwritten or am i missing something !? Anyway, glad you got it sorted - i know it was bugging me a lot. I have tried with two different ROMS (Harshjelly and Sami 1.1) and both had the same problem and both sorted out by the tee folder. Something funny about HK handsets for sure !

CM 11
Hi everybody.
The "tee file methode" was the only one that really work for me (while installing CM11, but the problems with other romes I tried were the same).
I live in Macau but my phone used the TYG Jelly Bean version of Hong Kong.
However, even without using the ART enviroment, I have had several issues using some of the most important apps: for starters, the nandroid backups done using the online nandroid backup app fail to do the boot and recovery backups...does anybody else have the same problem.
Since the problems reported apparently related to this region, does anybody want to start as I9070 Hong Kong Region specific thread where we can specifie this king of problems?
Thanks to all.
