I have a Nexus 7 and I am very happy with it. Currently running CM10.1 nightlies.
A few days ago a friend of mine wanted me to root his kindle fire (first generation) and install a custom Android 4.2.1 build. After doing that, I played around with it for a while (the Kindle Fire, no dirty thoughts!) and realised even the slightest movement of fingers resulted in more "estate" covered on the screen. In the standard Webkit browser, when scrolling down on a webpage, the experience was much better than on my much more powerful Nexus 7.
I wonder:
- Can I adjust how my Nexus 7 respons to my fingers movement - kinda like mouse sensitivity?
- Perhaps this has something to do with the lower resolution on the Kindle?
Its most likely a hardware thing.
I don't notice the difference between my kindle and my nexus

Sorry for being daft: you say it is most likely a hardware thing, yet your experience on these devices is similar? I reckon you mean a software thing, from the custom ROM i am trying out?
FYI this is the ROM I installed. I don't see any mentions of customised sensitivity.
Anyone got any input on my other Q regarding ability to adjust sensitivity? I'd like to make my Nexus 7's react with bigger movement when i scroll in the browser etc.

Just noted that I have maybe a defective screen (or GPU?).
Sometimes when using apps like XDA, browsing or apps with a lot of white background I noticed black lines (1pixel width).
When you holding in portrait mode their appear on the bottom side of he screen, and are horizontal. Always very fast, they appear and then go very fast. Sometimes its only one horizontal line, sometimes two.
When you hold in landscape mode they appear on the whole screen (vertical lines). It happened to me know two times while typing this post.
I'm full stock, not rooted. I have the power plug on and charging, maybe some power oscillation? Will see if happens without charger.

I thought I was going crazy when I noticed this! I legitimately see black lines down the screen for about a second just slightly out of my peripheral, and then they're gone.
Happens on xda and chrome, it's a known problem. Some people say other kernels help get rid of it. I think it's just a software bug.

Same issue here.

Haven't noticed that issue on my side

OK good I Thought I was going crazy. Other then that perfect nexus

I also noticed these kind of lines. It happened while watching some videos on YouTube. Also on XDA, portrait mode, on the upper side of the screen. Anyone has a software solution for this? I am just afraid not to get some permanent lines like this.

So... seems like that the problem appears for me only when I'm charging.
Anyone can confirm that the lines appears without charger plugged in?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Yes, the lines appear without charging.

Happens to my Nexus 7 also. They appear very briefly, like for half a second. Usually in the bottom half of the screen (I can't even tell if it appears at the same spot - it appears so briefly, but I do think I have seen it once or twice in the upper half). I have seen it on xda app, Tapatalk app, and Chrome blank page. I think I may have seen it on the home screen also.
On my Tapatalk app I turned the background to dark gray and font to white, but I have still seen it 1-2 times, so it doesn't just happen with white backgrounds.
Don't know if its a software issue and can be fixed with updates or should I get it exchanged? It will be hard to make the store understand what the problem is since it is quite rare, happens to me only a couple of times a day or so (although I have been playing Angry Birds extensively recently to see if it app specific or not, and I have yet to see on Angry Birds - I actually have not seen it anywhere for the last couple of days since I started playing AB).
I only get them in the Tapatalk app. And it doesn't happen often enough to be annoying so I don't really care.
Here here!!
Had them on Tapatalk, dolphin browser and on Plume to name a few. Like others said though, they ain't frequent tto become a PITA but are still noticeable.

I swear these threads are going to appear every week talking about the same problems that have already been discussed many times over.
As said many times before, this is a common issue with tegra 3. The one x line flickering was fixed with an update.
Or you can download a custom kernel with an increased panel clock rate and be happy.
So anybody else have screen raise on the left or is it just me???? just messing.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Saw it on Angry Birds too. So its just not on xda or Tapatalk apps.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
A custom kernel does fix it. I had this problem until I flashed the motley kernel and it went away. Then I when I went to the paranoid android ROM I didn't know at the time but it changed my kernel back to stock... I didn't realize it had changed until I noticed the lines again. So far I have used the Trinity kernel and motely's and both have solved the screen tearing problem. If you don't want to flash a custom kernel I'm sure google will fix it in a future update. Thankfully its not a hardware problem.

Really happy that the problem can be fixed with a software update.

Screen tearing
Different from the backlight flicker, known issue, please vote :good:
I have this as well well as screen moving issue I'm going to buy a 16 gb version and send this back for refund. Hope they will do that I really don't need two Nexus 7 tablets

Yep, I've seen it happen with the xda app, and it looks like it flickers a line for a second and goes away.
i have this as well, a dark horizontal line appears in a flash of second at random time and place, i thot it is the flicker issue ppl talked about?
but i dont have the whole screen flicker tho i have tried google map zooming or panning with gps on and weak wifi signal and auto brightness off and 15%

Rumor has it that the lower your IQ, the more laggy the N7 is. It's called "User IQ AI," and is a new feature of 4.2 and up.

Hi,i have this issue with my N7, whenever i swipe left on my home screen screen goes right for 3-5 times then it goes left again. Same with opposite movement. This happens on all custom roms cm10.1, pa 2.99, stock, smoothrom.

I,ve tried few launchers and it didn't help

Same problem with my n7 pure stock and default launcher.

Its a software problem. A launcher won't do much if anything. There is a rumoured 4.2.2 update being pushed in the U.S. fingers crossed it will fix the. Problem. You can star the issue on Google but I'm sure I saw a thread opened for it already with looooooads of complaints...so Google is aware of it.

Apex !
Hi everyone,
It's the famous bounce back issue that kills everybody's touch experience. There is a google issue thread about it. I Tried several launchers but only Apex Launcher Fixed it.
Install Apex Launcher and get relax. I hope they fix it with 4.2.2
Well guys, it seems like 4.2.2 has fixed the swiping bounceback issue for me. I've been plagued by it in the past but ever since flashing the OTA this morning I can't replicate a single instance of it no matter how hard I try.
Thanks Google!

Unfortunately, 4.2.2 did not fix it for me, I can still reproduce it with the launcher, settings pull down and browser and see it with "Pointer Location" turned on in the developer options. It still makes an L gesture at the end of quick swipes.

And, here's the change of interest in 4.2.2. I don't have the update yet, so can't confirm if it fixes both the homescreen swiping and the notification pull-down bounceback...

Reduce false swipe-closed gestures in status bar panels.
VelocityTracker is a powerful tool---too powerful, in this
case, because many devices (I'm looking at you, Nexus 7)
have touchscreens that report total garbage on takeoff and
landing.
PanelView now uses its own incredibly crude velocity tracker
called FlingTracker, which implements a short sliding window
of the last 8 motion events (7 intervals) over which touch
velocity is averaged. There's also a little bias toward more
recent touch events so that the overall velocity of small
circular gestures will tend to favor the exit tangent.
The end result is a primitive low-pass filter on touch
velocity that should help us avoid situations where one (or
even two!) stray MotionEvents at the end of a gesture won't
invalidate the overall thrust.
Hi guys,
I've been reading up on some nexus 7 stuff but I'm pretty new to it and was running 4.1.2 until recently, I see 4.2.2 was released but couldn't see any concrete feedback on how it compares to say custom roms like smoothrom based on 4.2.1. Do you guys find it better than say smooth rom in UI performance and battery? I'm not sure if I should change to 4.2.2 or stick with 4.2.1 custom roms with performance/smoothness tweaks for now.
Thanks
Smoother here.
I found my N7 sped up with 4.2.1 anyway when I cleared up some space. Havn't loaded it down since, so that may be the reason.
The main reason I want back to 4.1, was the broken Bluetooth Audio, but that also seems to be much improved in 4.2.
Will give rooted 4.2.2 stock a shot then, thanks
I've been on 4.2.2 for a few hours and I must say the wireless appears to be erratic! I'm sitting between 2 APs with same SSID so I don't know if the roaming settings are too aggresive...but seems worse than 4.2 was
I'm hoping Bluetooth is better than it was as my creative headset would constantly go out of sync on 4.2!

I'm running the latest Paranoid Android 4.2.2 nightly and it's running perfect. The Bluetooth works with the flashable zip fix just fine. I use my sixaxis controller with it and it's flawless. Benchmarks are about the same as before, but I don't really pay attention to them. I would recommend updating, I regret not doing it sooner.

I am actually noticing better WiFi performance with 4.2.2. I don't have to use better WiFi anymore, it switches seamlessly between my 2 routers with the same ssid. 4.2.2 made my nexus 7 run a lot smoother and faster, all around it was a good decision to upgrade.

Bluetooth was pretty much screwed on all devices by 4.2.x. I have a Nexus 7 and a HTC One XL, which I used to tether via bluetooth. This worked perfectly when both devices were on 4.1.2. Now the devices pair and the Nexus 7 claims to be using the One XL for internet connectivity, but it doesn't work and says network unreachable when I ping from terminal.
I never use bluetooth audio on my Nexus, but I do use it on my One XL. That's pretty much screwed since 4.2.x as well, with poor quality and crackling. There's a massive google bug report thread on it, which actually looks like I've not got it as bad as a lot of people!
Where do you find the flashable bluetooth fix? Is it just for Nexus 7?
cyanogenmod 10.1/ 4.2.2 my nexus 7 is now a lot smoother than on 4.2.1!

Hi there,
I use stock 4.2.2 with apex launcher and its the most fluent and rapid thing. Scrolling feels so good. I am new to nexus 7 and JB, but from what i have seen so far im loving it.
In terms of web browsing and performance in general its quite good. I had galaxy tab 2 7" before nexus and it just not match the smotherness and performance of the N7. Its impressive.

Aside from almost having a stroke every time I rotate the screen, specifically on the lockscreen, mine is doing just fine.

Funny, i never use landscape. Only for media play, or some games that come landed by default.
Apart of that, i always use it 'phone-wise'.

My wife often complains that her stock HD+ isn't as responsive as she'd like. Will either of the stable builds (10.1.3 or 10.2.1) be better or is this a hardware issue? I'm wondering if the BN software slows things down.

I'd say if a little bit can't be dealt with then get a different tablet - I can deal with it cause of the screen size for the price and other roms... but, not everyone will.
[Adding also, cm11 is actually quite good - smoothest cm to me. But with switching apps, keyboard popup, typing in the brower, and more there tends to be waiting at various times or various lengths. How much of that is the device, the apps, or android is unknown to me.]
