Hi guys, I'm here to help those brothers and sisters who can't find the way to successfully install WhatsApp on there's Google nexus 7 because I by myself have found a way to simple install WhatsApp on mine.
Let's clarify that I'm not responsibly for any damage made to your device for following the instructions above (or more properly said for the wrong following of this instructions)
So said that let's start from the beginning
Are you rooted?
Yes: Start from step 2
No: Read above.
Here's the situation, I haven't try this in an unrooted device and I won't unroot my tablet to try it out, so I recommend, if you wanna make this to work fast and easy, then start the step 1. If you want to help another's users, answer the question and tell ours if it works in unrooted devices then try from step 2 and feedback with your experience.
STEP 1
The first is rooting your tablet, this can be easily get done following the tutorial in the next link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395
(This step is thanks to FadedLite for his thread [GUIDE] Unlock and Root a Nexus 7 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28061076 that make rooting possible for me and for many others)
STEP 2
Start for activating the unknown apps in Settings-Security-Unknown sources √
Do you have a number that you want to use with the WhatsApp in your nexus 7?
Yes: skip STEP 3
No: STEP 3 will fix that for you
STEP 3
download and install from the play store the app HeyWire for free text messages, then register yourself following the on screen instructions. When you finish registering press the menu in the down-right part of the screen and look for your number that must be something like this +1 214-997-7838. Copy this to somewhere you can easily access the number.
STEP 4
Download and install STR AppGuard: http://files.backes-srt.de/appguard-mobile.apk
(This step is thanks to AnonFBI for his own thread [HOWTO] Install Whatsapp working On Nexus 7! [1/03/13] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35778974 that give me the ideas for my method )
STEP 5
Download WhatsApp 2.8.8968 apk and install it (DO NOT OPEN IT AFTER THE INSTALL) you can download the apk f file from here http://iapknew.com/2012/12/whatsapp-messenger-2-8-8968-apk.html as I have done.
STEP 6
Secure WhatsApp with AppGuard, it should notify you in the status bar when WhatsApp finish the installation, if it doesn't go and open it, select to secure app and choose WhatsApp, it will scan and secure application, uninstall installed application and install the secured application. (This step is thanks to AnonFBI for his own thread [HOWTO] Install Whatsapp working On Nexus 7! [1/03/13] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35778974 that give me the ideas for my method )
STEP 7
After finishing the secure procedure you get into the AppGuard menu then go to "manage your secured apps" and select WhatsApp, then uncheck " PHONE CALLS read phone status and identity" and get out of there (I don't remember if it ask for saving changes, if doesn't then go to next step, if it does then save the changes and get out)
STEP 8
Open WhatsApp and register normally with the number you want (your own mobile number or your heywire number, if you use the heywire number put USA as your country and the rest of the number add your phone number) you should get the activation code by message in your mobile phone or in your tablet if you are using heywire.
Then enjoy because you are good to go chatting with your WhatsApp. If you use your heywire number you will need to save your contacts with the international code before of there's numbers add example I p put +58 for my Venezuelan contacts.
Thanks to FadedLite and AnonFBI, I hope this could help all nexus users who need it.

Because I can't post in development threats and this isn't for the WhatsApp version that he made his thread, not even for people who understand enough to be reading in development section, this is a step by step for new people searching how to do this without breaking the device or killing all his brain to understand the complex way to talk in that section, in less words, this is for noobs.

as far as it not being the same version. i doesnt matter because both threads do the same thing, you just have a different way of doing it.
I get 'SMS verification failed'
I followed the tutorial to the point, it didn't work.
I used my own mobile number.

good work with the method, but i've closed the thread as a duplicate. please post your method in the existing thread in themes

This is only working on a few select phones.. But i have it working with Typhoon Gingerbread. Just wanted to spread the word.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.netflix.mediaclient
Hm I'm on Typhoon and it says device not supported
**Nevermind, I was using an old pre-release apk. All good haha
Also confirmed working with hyperdroid gbx 2.3.3.......... awsomeawsome
Works on Crawling City Ultimate Droid perfectly!
Can't find it in the Android Market on my device and when I use the link above, it won't let me download it either saying it is not compatible with my device.
Edit: Running CMYLXGO's GingerSense v0.5
Saw a guy on the market with a HD2 and he claims its working fine for him even though the HD2 is not on the list of phones. I have a HD2 and I am not able to get it, how would he be able to do this?

I think the Mods should merge the two threads to one. Then perhaps eveyrone can list what Rom they are using and whether or not it works for them. The OP can update the first post with confirmed working builds (or perhaps a mod can?)

At first it wouldn't let me download from market, but used the one in link and works perfect!
I'm using magldr/cwm/typhoon CM7
Hey guys don't forget the app was only released for certain phone models so most of us will probably need to use some work arounds.
Its working great on Tytung Nexus 2.7. If its not working for you, try this...
- Replace drmprovider.apk in system/apps with this file ( http://www.htchd2forum.com/android-...odes-android-app/?action=dlattach;attach=1284 ). It is the drmprovider.apk from the LG Revolution, which has the required restrictions for Netflix. (Don't forget to back up the original first, just incase).
- Change model name in build.prop to Nexus One (model approved for Netflix service)
- Install Netflix.apk from market (Link in post 1, old Netflix apps that have been floating around didn't work for me, just this one).
Restart phone and try it out! That did it for me, hope it helps on other roms. Good luck!
Props to poster of LG Revolution drmprovide.apk to the guys at htchd2forum, OP of this thread for Netflix.apk, my idea on the build.prop model.

Can you provide a little more detailed instructions on how to complete this process please?
Download and extract the linked file drmprovider.apk. Use Root Explorer to open system/apps and copy the file to that folder, replacing the old one. Then, find build.prop file in the system folder, long hold and select open in text editor, change the product line to Nexus One (see the screen shot in my previous post) then save and exit. Download and install the Netflix app (from first post) then reboot your phone. See if it works

THANK YOU.....been dual booting wp7 for awhile and netflix was one of the only reasons why im even using WP7
work perfect after file change and Nexus One change
im on AmericanAndroid 5-10-11 and they released and update while i was getting this to work..............yeah
Thank you! I will give it a shot in about an hour when I am done with some school work.
It shouldn't effect my rom at all, right?
Has anyone tried this method with the Desire z Sense NAND Zip Rom?
Working on hyperdroid CM7 v2.0.1
I used the link in this thread to DL the apk. It installed and opened fine, movies running smooth. I didn't have to rename the phone in build.prop or change the drmprovider. It just worked. At least for now. And with the 4.3" big screen the movies look great. Eat your heart out 3.5" iPhone.
No it shouldn't effect anything else really. Your phone will just be recognized as a nexus one now.

Is there any other app I can use other then "Root Explorer" to do this on the phone?
Forget it, I found a good app that does the same thing.
Will changing the root name to Nexus S and Samsung prevent me from updating my HTC features or any other features? I am hesitant to make this change and have problems down the road. What does
You can always change it back the same way

all this is the work of the following member.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3083768
i just posted this as MANY ANDROID USERS AREN'T AWARE OF THIS GREAT FEATURE...
Tethering is the ability to surf on your PC using the 3g of your phone
Reverse tethering is the opposite : surf on your phone using the ADSL of your PC.
This work only for rooted users..!!! it works for ACE , MINI , GIO , FIT
Download the ZIP file from the following link to your PC.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0cz0vxv4qu34uv5
Installation :
Unpack the zip file on your PC. This zip files contains the windows part, ADB and the android APK.
Before starting the tool :
Ensure you have debugging enabled on your phone :
Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging > Turn On
Ensure you have root access AND Super-user application installed.
Change the superuser settings (Menu -> Preferences -> Notifications part) :
Uncheck "Notifications" label to display "Do not show notification when an app is granted Su Permissions"
AndroidTool
The AndroidTool.exe is the windows part
The low level communication tool (ADB) is included in the zip file.
AndroidTool will try to find ADB in c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb.exe
If not found he will use the provided one.
The first time you use the program :
If you want to use another version of ADB, clik "config" and in the first tab enter the path to the ADB
Select the DNS server to use in the right list. On complex system, some dns can be detected.
Start reverse tethering
Just click “Connect”.
If it's the first time you use the program, This will install the latest android package and the dependencies (busybox and redsocks).
The SuperUser process may ask you to allow “Usb tunnel”
If the android process crash after receiving superuser rights, close the windows program and start again.
The android interface (first tab) will show connections forwarded to windows.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Others tabs are just for debugging (give information about system route tables and connections). Not yet finished.
Start your browser
Google chrome will complain that no connection is available. Don’t care. JUST KEEP REFRESHING. and it will finally work.
Firefox , opera and dolphin don’t have problem with that !!!
Other apps :
The system detect automatically ports like http (80), https (443) , Market (5228),UDP ports like DNS, ...
You don't need to add static ports in the windows program (config / ports).
So unless the application is not well written, it must work.
I suppose more than 95% of the applications which require GPRS/ WIFI will work.
the apps which are not working are
MARKET (u can surf the market but you cant download it..)
SKYPE.
please post any other application which is not working.

make sure u install the phone drivers provided by micromax and also u need to be rooted.. then try.
also this version seems to be 2.24, so its very old. So make sure to check the original thread quoted in OP and use that version since it has many improvements and fixes.

Some custom roms dont have the live wallpaper function enabled....Actually the file to make it work is deleted along with other files to make roms bareboned.
This is a guide to enable live wallpapers on those roms....
NOTE: Its not a very complex thing, rather quite simple and easy and nothing new.....but i found so many noobs and beginners with this problem. So I decided to come up with a guide.
Steps:
1. Download the attachment (LiveWallpapersPicker.apk), Put it on your SD.
2. Use a root explorer and move the file to "system/apps"
3. After moving the file long press on the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and select permissions from the menu, then set permissions as rw-r-r- (see screenshot)
Download your favourite live wallpaper, apply it and enjoy

I'm really just trying to get bubbles running with no luck either. Any other possable sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Also do you happen to know what I can do to unblock bluetooth tether on my t889 note 2 . Thank you
hi. thanks for this tutorial. however when trying to apply a wallpaper the app crashes. ..
I'm running android 4.2.1
any help with this?
thanks!
nevermind , got the correct apk and now good to go, thanx!
same problem...
Any help with this again?
I was able to get it to work before, but now just fc.
Can't figure it out.
JB 4.2.1 (I think I have the right apk)
If anyone knows where to find the exact match, please post the link, as maybe this is the problem?
Pushed to system, changed perms etc.
I do notice that the LWP option under wallpapers is with "apps" not in a separate section as I remember it to be...
The only other thing I can figure is flashing a zip through recovery, but I don't see any zips for a LWP...
Doing this for my wife, as I got me a new device, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hello guys, I decided to post the an easy method to root your Optimus 4X HD! You don't even need to use any command prompt for this, or run any commands. The only problem is that this is chinese language, so you have to click the exact buttons I tell you. At the end of this tutorial, you will have a rooted phone. Until now, no bricked phones have come out of this process! It only takes 5 minutes!
ALL Firmwares are supported.
1. Download this file: MOD EDIT
2. Install the software, using the installation buttons as you would on any other windows installation.
3. When you have installed it, you will see a green button, press it. Then connect your phone on USB debugging mode.
4. When the phone is connected the software will recognise the phone and the green button will show "ROOT", click on it.
5. The phone is going to be rooted in some seconds and the process is finished when it will show a tick on the software.
6. The phone will reboot.
7. When it is rebooted, go to google play and download super su.
8. Open super su and it will ask you to update the binaries, and you must click on update, and then normal.
9. A window in chinese will pop up on the phone, this is the screen that allows you to give root permissions to any app. You must click the button on the right.
10. You are done! Root process is complete!
11. This is the most important step. Leave a thanks! If you liked the tutorial, please show it to me!

All the versions should work, not sure about the version on the P880. When I tried with my P760 it was on the V20 though.
Okey, so I tried this, and a can say that this is working.
I followed instructions, was a bit anxious at first about this, and according to my "Root checker", "Root access is granted"

And as the OP said; Takes no more than 5 minutes!

You're right, adf ly is not allowed, goo.gl however is allowed, as it's only a link shortener, not pay-per-click
However, all it does is making the impression there is something to hide, which means less users will click it

So this means this is untested?
Thread closed, as this is untested, as well an chinese-only, which can cause problems during the rooting process. Also the way it works is not really clear, as a virus scan should bring up something, but it doesn't... (yes, every rooting kit is some kind of a "virus")

Everyone loves to be negative about the idea of paying $20 for the semi root process but it's people like this that make it worth it. Regardless of the person it goes to it motives selfless people to come up with cool stuff I benefit from. I'm looking forward to flashing this img.. I miss gravitybox.. If you want I'll throw you some dollars cause you deserve it too..

I cant set the ownership correctly the owner is set to root but when I try to change the group to shell root browser spits back failed sometimes this isnt allowed on some file systems
is this a problem? other than the group security thing being able to get root that seems like a security issue? should I be worried?
Keep up the good work!
Has anyone had any problems while changing permissions? I keep getting "Changing permissions was not successful. Please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes."
Thanks
I'm definitely a lurker and don't post when I have nothing of value to add but I wanted to say thank you for your work. I'm running your build now and so far it's great.
I would like to see moaab ad blocking host files built in and couldn't you also build I'm the xposed jar file? I got it working with some effort but it did fight me a bit. Ending up having to clear the cache once I got it working to get it 100%.
Still though you should consider putting up a donation page. I don't have much money at all at the moment but would consider donating what I could.
Thanks!
Would you ever be able to do a version with secure settings installed?
I'm looking for information on getting busybox working on my phone. I have flashed a rooted image, installed ES File explorer as directed and intalled the xposed installer app, changed permissions and nothing has completed as stated.
One set of instructions explains how to setup a flash to get it working, but where and how exactly do I flash it and another set says to flash their img too. Thanks folks
Anyone have a camera crash while using HDR?
Google cam and stock crash if HDR is enabled.

Seems to be ok, I have the xposed module active too. Haven't setup anything with it but it has root access.

Sweet! Under the options tab, how many of the features are active? Is Pattern Lock under root actions checked?

Go to the link below it will give you a link to the video that shows how to obtain the flashing software, and how to flash the img.
https://mofo.disekt.org/
Instructions?
Do I need to pay for MofoRoot and gain root access successfully before I can flash this image? If not, how to I flash the image?
Thanks in advance.

I am also getting crashes in both of these apps.
I am using a different image (the first one to get xposed working), and I never used the device before rooting it so I can't say for sure what is going on. Annoying because cyanogenmod made the maxx camera about useless, so I was excited to have good hdr again on the turbo .
Any ideas as to why I only get half root? I can use SU in terminal emulator as well as achieve root in a few apps, but others like titanium backup, adaway, busybox just plain say the phone isn't rooted.
