[Q] Any way to speed up JB ROM with m2sd installed - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have VJ's CM 10 4.1.2 flashed on my Nexus and I've gotta say I am very happy with this ROM.
As soon as I flashed the ROM, I installed m2sd and currently, this is my storage state:
/data - 6 Mb used out of 166
/sd-ext - 585 Mb out of 1 GB
/sd-ext/cache - 585 Mb out of 1 GB
Now, App loading takes time initially. After awhile, the app functions normally. But if there is more than one app running in the background, then all hell breaks loose. I have to wait for awhile for things to settle down.
Is there any way I can speed things up? Any thing that others have tried as well? I haven't changed any performance options (except for 16 bit transparency)
Thanks in advance guys.

Very slow Galaxy S

I have galaxy s since last one year and i love it... However my phone has become very slow these days.. I tried several roms and kernels.. Formatted both internal and external SD cards... But still it is very slow... I remember that I dropped it 3-4 times... Is it because of it?
Can someone suggest me please... What should I do...
Sent from my Galaxy S using Tapatalk
Maybe over clock it ...? I thought the new ROMs would have helped. It could be the fact that your phone is older now and some internal hardware has been worn out
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CM9 Nightly Kang (Build 5 of 2.1)
Eugene's Kernel (Speedy-7)

Can I do anything related to the hardware? I mean how can i check if it is not giving 100%?

I'm no expert so I'm not sure. Best bet would be to replace the hardware which Costs a ton of money. Its better to just a get a new phone. Either that or maybe mess around with new ROMs some more. Maybe you are wiping your phone incorrectly or maybe you use it too much

my suggest...
1. update your firmware to last version (2.3.6).
2. try to change kernel and custom rom.
3. maybe, with some different kernel and custom rom, you can choice the better option for your device. for example, try using kernel semaphore (gingerbread) and custom rom F1 or other.
I would be very surprised if physical trauma has simply caused a slow-down in speed. It would more likely show itself as random reboots and other more obvious symptoms.
Much like Windows, after a lot of use, it slows down - you have said that you've flashed other roms, maybe you just haven't come across a good one; there are after all a lot of different ones...
I would suggest the deodex-ed / rooted stock rom from RAMAD Gingerbread JVT. As I remember it was always quite stable and fast.
The hardware components inside a modern phone will not wear-out after a year - they are not moving parts! - when ram or a processor wears out it usually results in total system crashing not just a slow down.
Thank you all for your feedbacks and suggestions. I use my phone a lot. Usually i use TV out a lot as i do not have a cable connection in my hostel room. I use my phone a lot. I flashed it atleast more than 100 times. I have not seen any reboots, crashed , soft reboots etc very often. When i use MIUI rom my phone is very fast indeed however , it does not have a TV Out and therefore i have to use a stock based rom.. i will try Rammad's GB Rom as per your suggestion and will report back. As i told you that i dropped it a couple of times, is it possible that any of the Internal components have become loose?
Have you ever tried Advanced task killer? Or even killed tasks?

Try ICSSGS RC 4.2. I had the same situation as you. It was fine for one year and I was using Darky rom by that time. Suddenly I started feeling that my phone is too slow. Lot of stuck. Sometimes I had to remove battery just to restart.
Now running above ICS rom with Devil 14.2 Kernel its rocking ...
yeah I'd suggest u the advanced taskkiller too
in options you can set the auto killlevel to safe, so that it kills smth like games in the background but not important apps
since then my phone is quite fast even with stockrom

Yeah, and you can just use the ATK widget when you close out of something press the icon and it kills all the background apps...
I will surely try ATK and ICS roms as per your suggestions...

keep us updated...
Just get stock jw1, flash with reparation to wipe everything, then do a factory reset via secret dial code. Now install semaphore 2.5.0 kernel. Dl superuser to get root. Now install thunderbolt tweaks the main package and the 60lmk other addon(read thread how to) . This is the best setup i can think of in terms of speed bat life and functionality. Next step look in pikachus Android optimization thread and remove the bloatware listed there, basically remove as much bloat as possible. Enjoy ur fast phone.

Perhaps you should try the ICSSGS RC4.2 with Devil 14.2 LED VC Kernel. I'm on it and its awesome, my phone lags no more and I'm using it for my primary phone.

[Q] Having issues. Make me not hate my phone please!

Boyfriend (more technically apt than I, however, currently unavailable) helped me root and install a new rom on this POS and am still having issues (running [ROM][JB][4.1.2]Slimbean 3.1.0 Unofficial Galaxy Exhibit 4G by camcory)
Issues I have are as follows:
- Constantly having to use a task manager to kill apps that constantly start and restart so nearly all my memory is being used and phone is laggy as all get out. (Consequently, anytime I try to open an app, it takes AGES before it starts..including my contacts or msging...any app in general)
- Randomly (and sadly, not consistently) when I plug in headphones, music player starts on its own. Have to kill multiple times as every time I kill it it starts again until I reboot phone out of frustration. Only solution at moment was to delete all mp3s I had on my phone and remove music player (which sucks, cause I would like to be able to listen to my music on my phone...).
- When I use Pandora, Google voice search starts on it's own. I have to kill it multiple times as it keeps restarting, before I have to reboot phone out of frustration and that tends to take care of the problem..again, temporary (and annoying) solution.
- Curious, when I bought phone, it was partitioned (or so it appeared) so there was USB storage, SD storage, and then external SD. Even after installing new ROM, a lot of files that were on the phones internal SD storage remained, wondering if there's a way to wipe that so there's not duplicate files laying around, or files that are no longer necessary as they were part of the original phone's system, or if these are files that should remain on the phone for some purpose.
Also, in general, not terribly pleased with the look of this ROM. I really enjoyed the look and some of the default apps that came on the phone (the msging and contacts especially) when I bought it. Any recommendations as to possible ROMs that would be similar to the stock, yet not as craptastic, would be much appreciated.
Any and all help is much appreciated!
ITry Linero either version with formula84 gapps and either PoweredbyEvil v1 or DemonsBlood v8 over clocked max 1612 smoothass gov SIO io and set oom and minfree to strict in ROM toolbox. Use pimp my ROM for additional tweaks such as entropy sdcard tweaks all and carefully read memory tweaks
This benches and runs smooth with zero lag for me.
No problems with music or headsets. I deleted Apollo with ROM toolbox and installed fusion.
Memory is 168 free on average without using task manager due to tweaks in pimp my ROM and ROM toolbox.
I don't use Pandora but have yet to have Google now open when opening other apps
If inserted sdcard then you have the proper storage. The partition is for boot and internal then sdcard is external
Note that I use swapsd included in linero so my internal is really now external as most all goes by default to internal when installed so with a 32gig card I don't worry
When flashing ROM wipe cache + dalvik cache + system + factory reset + internal storage and I also wipe android secure. Be sure files you want saved is on sdcard along with ROM + gapps to be flashed.

Do you have any recommendations for launchers/themes? I was really keen with the look of the stock theme that came on the phone. The hololauncher that came with slimbean and the default theme I was not terribly keen with.
Thanks again for your help. I will let you know how it all pans out!

So I've done all as you said except for the pimp my rom just yet (battery started dying and I couldn't bother to be tethered to the charger while I worked ). As it is, it seems a bit faster, and I've yet to run into the bugs that I had previously (but that's always how it is in the honeymoon stage). Am trying to stay optimistic.
I am dying for the old messaging, contact list, and alarm clock that stock had, but cest la vie I spose. I'll have to nose around in the future and see what's out there.
Thanks for all your help
So I installed and all seemed to be going well and then I started getting crashes and lockups. So I reverted back to Slimbean that I was running previously. Now most of the apps I had before (even on Slimbean) will not work; "aren't compatible."
I can't for the life of me remember how we bipassed this last time I dropped that ROM on here. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Do a factory reset 2 times , wipe ROM 2x and wipe internal SD 2x then flash the ROM again. I recommend causing team win recovery made for our galaxy exhibit. Since of what I read you want jelly bean but a stock feeling I recommend you using remics jbjob rom

You need to change your dpi to 240 and reboot. Then clear cache on Play Store and reboot again. It might take a few app cache wipe/ reboots before your apps come back.

what rom to install??

I am currently at 4.1.2 and i want to upgrade to 4.2 cause my phone has gone slow.I mostly use it for messaging ,calling and
browsing.I want a rom with big battery life fast responde and more free ram (i have about 80 mb and i used to have 170 ...).Any suggestions ?
Try slimbean RC2. It meets all your requirements and is easily the most reliable custom rom I ever had on my SGS.

if your phone gone slow from 4.1.2, flashing to 4.2 will NOT make it faster.... Samsugn didnt update i9000 for a reason, it doesnt have enough mem for JB! So my advice is go back to stock rom, or a moded JB!

[Q] Do I need BlackRose to Install VJ JellyBean ?

Hello to everybody
I have my Nexus One with AmonRA and CM 7.2.0 Passion (Android 2.3.7). Do I need to install BlackRose to install VJ JellyBean (CM10.1_VJ_4.2.2_V5.4) or could I install it with Amon_RA?

Yup, you will need it to repartition your system partition. The current stock partition that you have will not work with JB roms
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app

I am using Link2SD a year ago with my actual ROM, so I have two partitions in my SDCARD:
- 14,36 GB FAT

Is that enough for JB????

Its not about your SD card partitions. This is about your ROM and how it's partitioned. The stock partition that is currently present is :
145/90/Data - where 145 Mb is for your system, 90 for cache and the rest for your apps. This stock partition is enough for GB ROMs. However, for JB (esp . VJ's rom) you will need to alter your partition to : 260 for system, 10 for cache and the rest for data. That's where BlackRose comes in. It helps you reflash your partition.
Check out Black Rose here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270589
Sorry my ignorance. I didn't know what was "ROM stock" related to. Your explanation is perfect.
I'm having some problems of memory, despite my configuration with Link2SD and that I only have in memory applications like Google+, Link2SD, GoLauncher, ContacPlus and AlarmDroid. However is difficult to make updates without running out of memory.
I want to install JB ROM not only for his new features, I presume my problems of memory will dissapear too ... am I wrong about it?
Thank you

[Trouble] Galaxy S I9000 toooo slow on ICS/JB

Guys, A little Help!
I am currently using my old Galaxy S I9000, as my HTC has gone to Service Centre for a week.
Last time I left it with JB Custom Rom (C-Rom Bean v1.9.0 Final) which was working quite OK! Now its too much laggy and slow all over while on JB Rom. I have already tried CM11, CM10.2, Slimkat, SpiritRom and Dark Unicorn (all 4.x.x and above).
Currently I am on CM7.2, which is working quite fine, considering its based on GB 2.3.7. I was also looking for working Lewa OS link, as I liked the one that I installed on my HTC, but couldn't find one.
Can anyone help me to understand what has happed to make this phone go soooooooo slow. Even if I am unable to instal Android 4 and above, I would still need the link for Lewa OS. If anyone has it, that'd be most helpful.

Mainly, the problem is on the way the different roms use the dalvik vm and the way aforementioned roms are unable to leash cache used. So, my recomendation is a good rom which a good preset over dalvik used of memory and applications like App Cache Cleaner to erase the cache every now and them.
For me the perfect combination is:
1. Stable CM10.2.1 rom
2. Kernel Semaphore 3.3.0 (avoid version 3.3.0s because it gives problems with Netflix, besides version 3.3.0 is perfect and you can activate bigmem with Semaphore Manager App, so 3.3.0s is nonsense) (NOTE: You need odin for installing it, follow this instruction)
3. Gapps: gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
4. Semaphore manager app. Settings for Semaphore Manager:
- Smartassv2 Governor: Awake ideal freq 900000 / Up rate 10000 / Down rate 99000 / Max CPU 50 / Min CPU 20 / Ramp up 300000 / Ramp down 300000 / Sleep ideal freq 300000 / Sample rate jiffies 2.
- Deep Idle: Enable
- Lock min freq to 100Mhz: Disable
- Active Scheduler: CFQ
- Bigmem: Enable
5. My build.prop to be placed within /system/ (remember to set for this file rw-r--r-- permissions and change owner to root).
6. A launcher like Zeam Launcher or Lightning Launcher
7. And finally an installed App Cache Cleaner Pro to erase the cache every now and them.
Best.
I have flashed CM10.2.with minimal gapps, but now unable to connect to internet. Tried flashing many times after wiping data, clearing cache and clearing Dalvik cache, but still unable to connect to internet.
EDIT: That as a temp problem with my carrier network. So, I have installed CM10.2 with above details. Working fine so far. Will let you know if there is any problem with this setup.

Try to flash the final build 2.2 of SlimBean 4.3 with SlimGapps.
It is faster than CM10.2 and has much better battery life (especially if you use TRDS mode)

OK, I 've flashed it. Lollipop on the i9000. It took 19min until the process was finished.
I have also flashed PA Gapps pico by Tkruzz, all other are probably too big.
The Omni LP alone (just Omni 5.0) is extremely smooth, but quite slow.
After flashing of Gapps (which BTW work perfectly fine) my i9000 has turned into the slowest device I ever used. It is way slower than Eclair, actually just same slow like my S8000 running CM7 from externalSD card.
It takes 15sec to open PlayStore, up to 2min to download and install an app (even smaller apps), about 5-10 sec to react on pressing any button and the device is often running out of memory and soft reboots are the result. It takes up to 15sec until the keyboard appears etc.
Otherwise all important functions work fine, but Lollipop is too big a task for the i9000 and except that it just works, there is simply no many people who would like to use a device with auch slowdowns. Even biggest fans of the i9000 (I might be among them) will have to face the fact that Android 5.0 is actually out of the hardware capacity of the S1
tetakpatalked from Nexus 7 flo
I myself am using CM10.2. Which works fine, with just a bit of lag. Its either that or gingerbread. Anyways, omni 5.0 for i9000 is just experimental at this stage, with promise for a more stable build by @humberos. It may be light on the system, but who knows.
I'd say buy a newer model if we need new OS as software is as good as its hardware and vice versa.
Omni is excellent and very stable, although in Alpha stage. That isn't my point.
LP system cannot get smaller, the i9000 is simply too slow for Android 5.0
It was just an info for people who dream to use Lollipop on i9000. It is a huge slowdown.
I have much faster devices but I don't use LP even there.

Hey,
I suggest you guys to use SlimBean v2.9 with the latest Slim JB gapps. The phone will be quite fast, despite this device is very old... This version of SlimBean is not available on their site but is here:

I think further versions are significantly slower and this one offers quite a lot of customization as well. Good luck with the i9000 [emoji3]

I've tried today build 2.9
It worked fine but for some strange reason it didn't recognize my wifi router...all other networks just fine, but not the important one. I couldn't solve it, tried everything.
But I have feeling that SlimBean 4.3 is at least as good.
Hey, BTW I have filmed Omni 5.0.2, I will try to edit it and upload tomorrow

I don't think I ever got around to trying the 4.3 version, I remember the 4.2.2 version was a bit hit and miss when it came to battery (but then again, all 4.2.2 roms save Gamerzrom and a few others were). By the time the 4.4.x version came out I moved onto the S3 so I can't vouch for that, but Slim roms are pretty good
And you legend, thanks a lot
