[Q] Do I need BlackRose to Install VJ JellyBean ? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everybody
I have my Nexus One with AmonRA and CM 7.2.0 Passion (Android 2.3.7). Do I need to install BlackRose to install VJ JellyBean (CM10.1_VJ_4.2.2_V5.4) or could I install it with Amon_RA?
Thank you

Yup, you will need it to repartition your system partition. The current stock partition that you have will not work with JB roms
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app

I have some partitions yet ...
I am using Link2SD a year ago with my actual ROM, so I have two partitions in my SDCARD:
- 14,36 GB FAT
- 487,84 MB Ext4
Is that enough for JB????
Thank youuu

Its not about your SD card partitions. This is about your ROM and how it's partitioned. The stock partition that is currently present is :
145/90/Data - where 145 Mb is for your system, 90 for cache and the rest for your apps. This stock partition is enough for GB ROMs. However, for JB (esp . VJ's rom) you will need to alter your partition to : 260 for system, 10 for cache and the rest for data. That's where BlackRose comes in. It helps you reflash your partition.
Check out Black Rose here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270589

Sorry my ignorance. I didn't know what was "ROM stock" related to. Your explanation is perfect.
I'm having some problems of memory, despite my configuration with Link2SD and that I only have in memory applications like Google+, Link2SD, GoLauncher, ContacPlus and AlarmDroid. However is difficult to make updates without running out of memory.
I want to install JB ROM not only for his new features, I presume my problems of memory will dissapear too ... am I wrong about it?
Thank you

FANTASTIC
Mount2SD worked really well. I uninstalled Link2SD.
Now I have no problems with memory and my Nexus One runs smoothly.
I'll wait some months for a stable JB.
THANK YOU A LOT

[Q] Add more RAM to SGS ? Is it possible?

Hi everyone,
I have this phone SGS i9000 but i am constantly running out of memory. Now i got the new Sims game which uses so much ram... Many times the device just starves for ram and reboots itself...
Is it possible to add more HARDWARE ram to this device?
I use Darky roms on my device and checked if i can enable some sort of swap but it is not possible or reasonable...

it's almost impossible without soldering knowledge and a LOT of investigation
just forget a bout it
How would you add this to the PCB? I don't think there is any space left. This is not plug and play, more an embedded device. And how about the other hardware? You also need additional controllers and such things.
--> Impossible.
If you want extra ram you have to buy a new phone
What about swap memory?
hm.. i9000 is realy a low ram device.. i sell my sgs and buy a sgs2 .. a great device
my girlfrend have also 500mb ram device, she use "rammanager root" (search @play-store) it have nice settings and work realy good..
try the demo/trail.. use hardcore game mode for the sims maybe it helps a little bit

Nope, 329MB is user accessable, 128MB is reserved for the graphics card. 55MB is inaccessible because it prevents the device from freezing up when ram is near full.
I will never buy device with less then 2GB of RAM anymore then!
Give the poor device a break, its old already.
Mate I'm running a tsunami ROM in my sgs and it has an 392mb of ROM. And this solved all my ram problems
Tried zRam?
I have an S plus (nearly the same) and i have 358mb of RAM..
Wtf guys this was posted in March, why did you revive this thread?

Hi,
Replying really late , but there is a possible way >> check below -
What advantages of increasing ram on Galaxy S
Running multiple number of application at background.
Games will run smooth without any lagging.
Clear the ram memory to make your device faster.
How to Get More Ram on Galaxy S Cyanogenmod CM10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and CM 9 ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM.
Make sure that your custom rom is loaded with devil kernel or not. For that you can check Go to Settings->About Phone. Scroll down there you can see kernel version of present rom.
Note: So if your custom rom is loaded with different kernel then you need to change it into devil kernel version.
1. Download below zip files based on your Android OS.
For ICS get here.(file name Devil3_1.0.3-ICS_i9000_CFS_BLN_CMC_20120724.zip and you can also check latest kernel version and download it)
For JB get here. ( file version 1.0.4)
2. Copy the zip file into phone sd card.
3. Turn off the device and boot into recovery mode. For that you need to press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power button together.
4. When you enter into clockworkmod recovery mode. Select the “install zip from sd card” choose the kernel zip file which you copied earlier in your phone sd card storage.
5. The kernel flashing process will take 1 min. After that reboot the device. That’s it done now your device is fully working with devil kernel.
Note: The Above process is only for who don’t have devil kernel in their Custom Rom. If you’re custom rom is already loaded with devil kernel that you can avoid above process.
Follow below steps:
1. Download devil kernel config app from Google Play here or you can get apk from here.
2. After installing the app on Galaxy S device. Go to app list section there you can see an icon with devil logo and of that app is devil kernel configure.
2. Open the application there you can get Ram Settings Option.
3. Click on it and it will show you three options of ram CM9 368 MB, XL 391 MB and last one big mem 403 Mb. Select Big mem 403 MB to make it done.
4. On the top right side. Click on setup and it will ask you to save the ram settings.
5. When you finalized the settings it indicates to restart the phone in order to make the changes.
6. After rebooting the device. Open the task manager there you will get 403 MB of Ram.
Finally you unlocked more ram on Galaxy S Device running Cyanogenmod 10 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM.
Rgds,
Kaustav.
You can use swapper from the Google play.
Swapper create a file .swap on your sdcard and this is the RAM :fingers-crossed:
I have samsung galaxy s plus, cyanogenmod 10-20121226-ivendor-alpha6-ariesve, android version 4.1.2, kernel version [email protected] #112...how can i install this devil kernel to increase memory ram to 403? Forgot to mention that i have JellyBean

This is not really a viable option...
The flash drive is infinitely slower compared to RAM.
Any game demanding more RAM than can be accessed without writing to/from swap would be unplayable.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Rom: Mackay rom 4.9.14 (4.4.4 kitkat)
Kernel: 3.0.101-KK44-x-aries-cma
Ram: 415MB
Lack of RAM is what made me upgrade from this glorious phone to the S4.
As time went by, Android apps got bigger and heavier, making the Galaxy S unusuable alas.

[Q] ICS on P1000 with HumberOS and AOKP

Dear Mates,
I have been using Roto rom and started using Overcome for almost a year now. Now I'm all excited again with AOKP for P1000 but after installing I do not see standard apps like Gmail and market. Please help coz new to honeycomb.
You need to flash gapps. Get it from HERE, copy it to your internal sdcard and flash it from cwm.
thanks saav it works.
i have another issue with SD card, found out can install multi mount SD card. so followed instruction and install the multi mount(did not run) and install lucky patcher restarted the tab. But still can't access SD card via tab pr PC if I can using usb cable. Pls help
I'm using build #31. Is this Ice cream sandwich or honeycomb? I just followed others on the naming of the thread but the interface seems like honeycomb.Pls enlighten me. thx
Build 31 is based on android 4.0.4 so it's ice cream sandwich not honeycomb. As for the sd card issue, install root explorer or root browser lite (free from the market) and you'll find the contents of your external sdcard under /emmc or /mnt/emmc.

I suggest you flash using overcome gb-stock safe V5 before flashing to AOKP ICS because stock gb using rfs so by using overcome gb-stock safe v5 it will convert the file system ext4

[Q] How to increase internal storage on Galaxy Mini with CM10.1

Hi
I'm really trying to increase the Internal storage of a Galaxy mini phone but I can't.
My specs are:
- Galaxy Mini GT-S5570
- Recovery: Clockworks Recovery 5.0.2.8
- CM 10.1 ROM
- Baseband: S5570XWKQ5
- 4GB SD Card
What is the best way to increase the internal storage of the phone with the SD Card?
I want to increase it to 1GB. I had tried Link2SD, it cam move some apps to the SD Card, but I really want to increase the internal storage, since it remain as 178MB and no matter how many apps I move it always consumes the internal storage.
I had following some tutorials, but are more focused on gingerbread roms or non rooted phones, and I didn't get any good results. Can you suggest me the best way to accomplish this?
I had partitioned the SD-Card, mounted /data and /system on the Clockworks recovery, but I still can not increase the internal storage size.
Any links and recommendations are welcome
Thanks in Advance.
Search all threads before posting dude.... Go to themes and apps section and see the thread named.... INT2EXT+... It's my thread only... Works for CM10.1.

[Q] INT2EXT on JellyBean

Hello guys,
First of all, I've been using XDA for quite some time as a resource to Rooting and findind great ROMs and Such, but I've never contributed, so please be patient.
My current problem is, I love my Galaxy Ace. But it doesn't run many apps and is knida slow etc. So I was using the Ultimatum, and it was awesome, but it started getting too slow, plus it doesn't run many Apps because it's an older Android Version.
So I decided to get me a JB ROM. A nice one. And started looking. Then I tried INT2EXT and.... Nothing happened. I started going through the ROMs I liked the most, but I can't get INT2EXT working.
Now before you think I don't know what I'm doing, at the same time I flashed JB to a Xperia X10Mini and used INT2EXT, and it's working perfectly.
So, is there any JB ROM that works with INT2EXT? Is there a better/faster option, that will work with any JB ROM? Or which other solution do you guys suggest?
Also, I think it would be great to have a Pinned post on General or Apps or whatever with a list of solutions like INT2EXT and ROMs that work with it etc. What do you guys think?
Thanks a lot.

brother first see the steps that i am listing
1. Boot into recovery
2. Backup your current rom
3. Flashing the script:
>>> mount data
>>> mount system
>>> mount sd-ext
>>> format SD-EXT (YOUR EXTERNAL PARTITION, NOT YOUR SD!)
4. Flash the script
5 Done, Reboot!
if you dont wanna use intext try link2sd and also remember for ace use int2ext+ and not anything else for better results and about jb roms i have also tried many of them and both link2sd and int2ext+ works perfectly in most of them
also try cm9 by tomorrow land ace it is very smooth and stable
best of luck
Which rom are you using?

[Q] Lightest ROMs available?

Hi,
My s5570 came with Froyo which I upgraded to Gingerbread stock. Unfortunately it only has enough space to install Whatsapp and another app.
Can you recommend a stripped out ROM that will run recent apps?
Thanks,
Joe
