Hi all,
I'm using GT-I9000 n m running the gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVR, i guess its a samsung stock leaked rom. M having great deal of problems dealing with the bugs n there r lots of them. M in search of a good stable fast rom for my daily use. Your co-operation will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Usman Khan.
I am very happy with the ROM V3.5 Amestris [XXJVR], fast and more importantly stable
I suggest you to try Tornado ROM.. Simply the fastest, smoothest, the most stable and with good battery life. I know this sounds overrated, but if you try you won't regret
..
Try miui its a great rom, looks great, stable
Why exactly couldn't you have just read one of the six or so threads on the first couple pages alone of this forum that ask the exact same question? It is all just a game anyway, each person will tell you their rom is best.

Try Juwes Smart Edition or Tweaky Rom Hassle free fast stable and smooth roms.
Guys,
This question is purely subjective and has been asked MANY times before.
The only real way of knowing is to flash and try some roms out, isnt that why your here after all?
Have an adventure and try some stuff out

Cheers,
got my first android phone July of last year, a Galaxy S I9000, im very happy
with it except when it hangs or reboots by itself, not to mention the battery
drain. And since its my only phone then, I decided not to root and install any
custom firmware as Im afraid I might brick it. Anyways got my second phone
recently, a Galaxy Note N7000, now I think I am ready to root and install a
custom rom and play around with it more. Can someone here show me where I
can get a step-by-step guide on how to install a custom firmware? and which of
the firmwares would you suggest? heres the details of my phone:
Model : GT-I9000
Firmware : 2.3.3
Baseband : I9000DXJV9
Kernel : 2.6.35.7-I9000DXJV9-CL216763
[email protected] #2
Build No : GINGERBREAD.DXJV9
Please be gentle with me here, im a virgin at this and this will be my first try
ever on flashing a phone.
Thanks a lot in advanced.
First off most of the ROMS, Kernels or Modem threads all have fairly easy instructions in the first couple of thread posts so I have provided the links to those I like.
If you are looking for an ICS ROM try Team ICSSGS. It has been a while since they had any updates but the ROM is rock solid and the thread below should explain everything. There should be an immanent release of RC5 which I'm sure will be even better.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
Another great ROM is SlimICS. This has more regular updates if you check out the first post it has a link to everything you need to know to get it running. I am personally running this ROM at the moment but will move back to Team ICSSGS as for me this is the best ROM.
If you miss the toggles in the notification bar for Team ICSSGS then download widgetsoid from the Play Store - free app that can be set up to sit in notification bar.
If you want root but plan on keeping a Stock Rom then check out CF-Root. All instructions in the first couple of posts. Lots of info but if you read it, it is fairly easy to understand. CF-Root is basically stock kernel with root. No CF-Root for JV9 but people have reported using either JVO or JVP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
NB. Before starting make sure to back up your EFS folder & make a Nandroid backup after getting root.
Also make sure to get everything you need first so if you run into issues that can be resolved quicker.
So get the ICS Rom you want, download your stock rom & odin at Sam Mobile.
Another great resource is SamMobile which has all the stock roms, odin etc.
If you want to fiddle with kernels after flashing ROM then my favorite ICS kernel is Semaphore: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795
For modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
Thanks for the reply scubadude, I will read up on those links you provided and will take it from there.
update:
Just followed the instructions to the links you've provided and now im done. I used the Team ICSSGS rom and now my phone seems to have been reborn.
Performance is way better than it was, and looks good with ICS. Thanks a million for the help.
Pleasure... hope you enjoy it. For an even better experience try either Devil or Semaphore kernel. I'm using Semaphore.
scubadude, I've installed Semaphore... im still playing around with it, and
re-installing my apps and all... thanks a lot for the help, i really appreciate it.
Just a followup, I noticed that I "Sim Toolkit" is now missing is my apps list.
Any ideas how to get this back?
As far as i am aware sim toolkit does not work on any of the ics roms. Someone can correct this if i am wrong

@scubadude
Ah thats unfortunate, since my Paypal account is linked to my DebitCard managed
by my Telco... which I can only access via the Sim Toolkit. Its not a biggie tho.
Also I noticed that battery seems to drain quick... any suggestions?
Unfortunately battery drain is an issue with ICS although for my use battery has been similar to stock rom which has always been the best for me.
The way I use my phone I make sure gps, 3g, wifi & location stuff is all off - turn on when you need them. Also don't overclock.
Make sure you are logged out of latitude (was a massive battery drain in gingerbread for me). You can also try different modems (apparently better signal means less drain) Modem thread here. Try JW4 or one of these jvu, zsjpg, dxjv9, jvt, or you could try the nexus modems kf1, kb3, kj1 Nexus Modems (search in thread for link. )
With phone like this I get 2 to 4 days or about 3.5 to 4 hours of screen on.
You can also try Slim ICS as it has updated to ICS 4.0.4. although I am not noticing a big battery difference and plan to move back to Team ICSSGS as soon as RC5 comes out.
So far I have tried Teamhacksung build 17, CM9 latest nightly, AOKP, CNA, WeUI, Slim ICS & Team ICSSGS. I have tried the following kernels: icy glitch, devil & semaphore. Midnight kernel is supposed to give good battery life so you could try that.
My favourite has been Team ICSSGS with semaphore although currently on Slim ICS 3.3 only because it has ICS 4.0.4 & Team ICSSGS is still on ICS 4.0.3.
I'm running the ICSSGS Rom for a couple of days now and I have to agree, there's some battery drain.
Anyway, it's a good and stable rom and I did not have any problems since flashing it.
What you could also try is to switch off vibration if you not really need it.
What I did was disabeling the "Google location service" (not sure if this is the right translation as my phone is set to german language).
Anyway, even with a higher battery drain I wouldn't go back to Ginger.
There's always a jack around ... you just need to find it

thanks for the link.
Pleasure. Here is another i came across with instructions & download.
This thread is about the Sim Toolkit.

Thanks for the link again, i have seen that link before and tried it (the one from the first post works for me) However, it doesnt seem to connect to my telcos server. Same result also on the first link provided. At any case I've given up on that for the meantime since my S is only my secondary phone and im getting a new debit card for my paypal. Oh I've now installed SlimIcs on my S and im loving it... feels more snappier. I didnt know that flashing could be addictive.

Unfortunately it is... Slim ics is great defintely my favourite at the moment as it has received regular updates and is running android 4.0.4 vs team icssgs on android 4.0.3. I'm sure once team icssgs update they will be back on top though.
For something different. Not quite as fast but still awesome try WeUi. All the rest are pretty much the same in my opinion. In general forum (i think) there is also a thread with bench marks for most of the roms.

Try use ics elite, this what i use and work like a charm.

Thanks @luftys as much as I'd want to try that... wife is using the phone and shes very much happy with it that she wont even let me touch it anymore...
anyways I still have a Galaxy Y and Galaxy Note to play with....

My ROM is GSM oriented and I disabled 4g. If you want to use CDMA with 4g, you should return back build.prop file from eclipse (cdma edition) rom, as example.
As I have updated from a SSGS1 to a SXS, I have given my old SSGS1 to my sister.
It is currently running on Darky's ROM (GB).
I wish to upgrade it to ICS.
Basically, what is the most stable ICS custom ROM around?
I see that there are ALOT of ROM's and I do not know which one to pick.
And can you please send me the link to it and instructions to upgrading from my current ROM to that.
I really do apologize for my noobiness as I have not touched the forums in AGES and things have changed.
Thanks you!
i also used to be on darky rom (GB). I think you should just skip ICS all together and go straight for Jelly bean ROMS. I haven't heard much good news about ICS and there's so many beautifully stable and smooth roms for JB.

Ahhh okay. If that's the case thencan you link me to some stable JB ROM's?
Whats wrong with CyanogenMod? CM9.1 stable would be my advice. JB isn't much better at this point and there are still bugs and unimplemented features.
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/ select your device and look whats available
I'm using xbean for a couple of weeks on my old phone and it's all good. No crashes/restarts/etc you can give it a go.
Don't forget to say thanks if this post helped you.

Just registered today but been reading the threads, I managed to install [ROM][4.3][13/08] EternityProject's CyanogenMod 10.2 for LG Optimus 4X HD
I went from upgrading the stock ICS to stock jellybean, I wasnt happy with the battery performance, so I rooted the phone on jellybean, unlocked the bootloader and installed the mention custom rom. Been using it and it works pretty, there were some random crashes with the launcher b ut after using another launcher it is pretty solid rom. So thanks to the dev and the great testers for feedback here.
The only thing that does not seem to work is bluetooth, I cant seem to pair the phone with my LG soundbar at home.. Bluetooth on stock ics and jellybean both worked fine....Is there anything I can do to resolve this?
Cheers

Please post in the QandA thread next time you have any queries bro! It's annoying some of the users a little now.
However, the 4.3 Rom you have flashed is still in Alpha Stages, it will have many bugs and i do believe Bluetooth is one of them, you will need to flash a more stable rom such as magic rom which is stock based so you can be sure 100% stability, or you can flash a 4.2.2 Rom with a 4.2.2 Kernel which should straighten it out for you!
Should be posted here in Q&A in the future! http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1651

ok cheers pal, I didnt really want to ask any questions as everthing is answered, thats how I managed to install the rom in the first place, searching through the forum.I did see some people had BT issues with the rom,
Forgive my ignorance still kind of new to flashing roms although I do flash my advent vega with your friends in tabletroms. Some good devs there...which kernel would you choice to use with that rom?
Ignore, misread the question
