Have you tried other VPNs on the market? I don't know why Hotspot shield supposed to be the best but what I do know is that it is add supported if free and otherwise is payed application. On the payed side you've got strong competition with various options. You may try TigerVPN which is really cheap. If you want the free one, go for Fearless VPN or Libre VPN.
RAZRI supports at least PPTP VPN and OPEN VPN (tested and confirmed), very likely LPTP VPN as well. I don't know what mode uses Hotspot shield, certanly none of technologies above. Why don't you go for your own VPN server? Its fast, limitless and free. Routers in last years supports at least PPTP and LPTP. And configuration is really simple. Besides you can configure it on the Windows or Linux machine.

So, first I have a license that I purchased back in my iOS days (and the support don't saw any problem to transfer it to my Android, a really good support, I need to say) and it worked very well in iOS (I know it can be totally other experience and since I get the Razr i, my first Android, I can't use the service), and so I have that feeling that is the best also from it being an desktop service "before apps was cool", hehe, and the scores in play agree...
Missing the service, I'm using the Tiger and I just don't like the on demand payment, also because the price for an 1 year plan is out from the app normal price...

Also, I don't know, but can I connect from my own server including in cellphone networks? I really don't know how this service works out of the specifics application, in the mobile or desktop, if it's paid or you just need to configure and go on... Would be great if you get me a link to a tutorial. Thanks...

I don't fell that TigerVPN is expensive. I have per use account and for a couple of dollars it last months Though you still have free solution as for example FearlessVPN (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mZWFybGVzc21vYmlsaXR5Il0.)or LibreVPN (http://www.rl-tech.info/showthread.php?12680-Le-nouveau-LibreVPN!).
But the best solution is to establishing your own VPN. It's free, safe, reliable, fast (as fast as your network is). The easiest way is that you already have a router which supports PPTP/LPTP VPN - new routers mostly do). If you don't have such router, you can still buy it for about $30 and it compensates costs you'd have with commercial VPN insted. Just choose the router which supports VPN as an additional function. The instruction is router dedicated, configuration is easy and it is similar as: http://www.hideipvpn.com/2011/10/pptpl2tp-vpn-setup-for-dd-wrt/.
Establishing your own OpenVPN server is more demanding, you must be familiar with linux/Windows server and network configuration. The instructions could be found here: http://openvpn.net/
Configurate client is easy and it works. You can download the client here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImRlLmJsaW5rdC5vcGVudnBuIl0.
Hope I helped.

My use for vpn is mainly for Pandora and Spotify and only on the go. $ 25.00 per year is my last option, and now seems to be the only one. I will try the apps that you said... Tks again.

i am in china and i use www.137vpn.com
it used to be called greenvpn but they changed the name since china government shuts them down frequently. this vpn will update your sign in automatically when they change addresses.
it is free for three months then you have to pay a small price. it has ok speed and offers a lot of connection choices. i recommend it. i am glad that xda is not blocked in china. however, sometimes china telcom blocks xda clickable threads. i dont know why. this vpn seems to work really well with xda and lets you access the normally blocked xda threads. maybe this vpn likes xda or something.
the above mentioned vpn also lets you toggle your phone from regular to vpn connection.
Why dont you look for an affordable VPN service instead??

Firewall

My school has a firewall I connect to there wifi with my phone is there an app where I can get past the firewall
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
No, but you should be able to set up a vpn to your house, and use that to browse the net.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using Tapatalk.
I don't know how to do that
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
Yea that'd be nice to know, I hate trying to use the crappy 4g 1 bar reception at my school when there's a perfectly good wifi network there.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
It isn't a quick reply kinda thing. Google is your friend.
Basically, you set up a VPN server on your home machine, leave it on, and configure your phone to connect to it via your school internet connection. You are tunneling past their connection and firewall. All they see is the connection to home.
I've looked but can't seem to find something maybe I could have Comcast do it
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
No, Comcast can't do it. If you can't set up a VPN, you really don't have the ability to go after firewalls.
Look up open source Virtual Private Network, read, learn, implement, grow.
Or, just deal with the restrictions or your cellular data connection.

Tethering methods

Has anyone found a functional wireless tethering method? Or do any of the roms listed in the development section have tethering enabeled? Ive tried wifi tether several different versions with every setting combination and cant get it to work. Shows devices connected but no internet connection

Google's WiFi Tether app is a must-get:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Set the Device Profile in settings to LG Optimus S
I leave my Setup Method as 'Auto' and have no problems tethering a number of devices. Many people choose to set theirs to Softap. IMO I've seen no difference between the two so try both and choose which one you think works best for you.
Thanks joey but ive tried that setup and it will show connected but no actual internet. The main device im trying to connect is a wii.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
I don't have a wii to test, but I've used the tether for rooted users to connect my computer and Kindle Fire with no issues whatsoever.

My Wireless Tether app was doing that same thing. I think Verizon does something on their end to block it.
You can use "Open Garden" from the Play store. It works. Used it this weekend.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda premium
Open garden works well. The only problem i could see was if the Wii doesn't like ad-hoc networks as tje tether apps I have seen are all Ad-hoc

Ill give open garden a try tonight and see if its wii friendly

How to set Nexus 7 as a hotspot?

Hello everyone,
I've searched tons of different places looking for an answer but I couldn't get one...
My question is really simple (the answer however..), can I set my nexus 7 as a hotspot? My nexus is the 16GB version without 3G, so basically I want to:
1 - connect the nexus to a wifi network (done);
2 - share that network to other devices through nexus 7 (pending);
I've even looked at play store but the apps I've found aren't compatible with nexus 7.
TIA.
If you have your nexus connected to WiFi... Y not just connect the other device to the same WiFi....

because some of my devices are away from the router and can't get a proper signal.
I don't think that's possible.. As the wifi connection stops as soon as you turn on wifi hotspot

Bingo. Wi-Fi their was never designed to act as a range extender. It is for using a cellular connection to act as a hotspot to provide a Wi-Fi for devices that could not otherwise connect. As such, any time tethering is activated, it will, by necessity, disconnect the device from Wi-Fi.

Buy a range extender, as what you're looking to do is contradictory to the functional design of hotspot apps.

I was looking for a similar option, but to use the n7 as a wifi router. The purpose this would serve varies between users. My use, would be so me and my kids could all connect together in games while going down the road with no internet. Hard to play multiplayer while having no connection. So, being able to use the n7 as a router would serve more uses than just extending range. Those answering should see the benefit of such an ability in a larger scope, and not just the reason the op needs.

one way that i know off is getting Wifi Tether Router, i haven't use it for about 2 or 3 months but when i was using it, work like a charm .
I once saw Legere's comment about T-Mobile is cracking down hardcore tethering users with "non-usual" ways. Not sure what the penalties are but i would be really carefull if I were you.
1. Use a VPN on the tethered device.
2. Use a tethering app, like WiFi Tether Router.
3. Never ever use the built in tethering method if you're on a stock or stock-based ROM.
4. Simple.
Using a VPN hides your data packets and prevents T-Mobile from inspecting your data packets to find out where the data is coming from. It is none of their business in the first place. I suggest doing this no matter what if you care about privacy.
What VPN service do you recommend and how do I go about setting it up.

I don't recommend one. Google it to find a list. Decide which you prefer. Most VPNs will provide an app or instructions on how to set up in Android.
