I've got the message that there was a firmware upgrade so i've started kies and proceeded.
Then at +/- 80% through the upgrade process it said it failed.
I've tried the recovery procedure that samsung proposes but i keep getting "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery in Kies & try again" message on my phone. So 'im stuck...
Help!
While downloading the firmware from sammobile i've tried again to fix it through Kies... this time it seems to have worked!! :victory:
At the moment it's booting up nicely... and... IT'S ALIVE!!
I switched USB ports the last time i've tried the upgrade, pc started installing the drivers (which it didn't do before) and started Kies.
Anyways, it works again

It was the official 4.1.2. No more ripple effect on the lockscreen but i don't miss it. Everything else seems the same.

Hi,
I am trying to update my Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.3 through Kies... Everything goes on smoothly but when the phone enters the download mode (Download Mode, Do not turn off the target), it hangs over there. And moreover, Kies shows that Phone is not responding try rebooting.
once i remove the battery and restart the phone, it works normally.
Any ideas on how should i proceed? The phone is not rooted and its OTA update.
Also, would like to mention that Kies is not able to take the backup of contacts. It says exception occurred and continues with download of the firmware.
Please help... Thanks
Guru
Just forget Kies.
Kill all Kies-tasks and use Odin for flashing. But don't forget to backup your data first!

As Lunchbox115 said, update your OS through Odin or Heimdall and just backup your contacts with export option (it creates .vcf file on your sd card).
You can also sync your contacts worh Google.

Hi everyone, can somebody help me.
I received an update to 4.0.4 via OTA for the last 3 weeks, i ve been trying to update it and even thru kies but always saying "Failed to Update Firmware."
In OTA, the firmware finished downloading and when it reboot, the green robot's blue meter only ends up at around 10% and will reboot again normally and a pop up will appear saying failed to update.
Im so tired of this, and when i tried kies, when it finished downloading the firmware for almost an hour, and after my phone reboot, it stucked on the Green Robot logo, saying "Downloading.... Don't disconnect..." and its just there for an hour. Nothing's happening. and i'll just restart my phone and still on 4.0.3...
guys, please help me... you can email me...
im really desperate to update my firmware because my battery sucks in 4.0.3...
thanks in advance guys...

You got 2 options I can suggest bud.
1st one.
First of all, have you already tried unintalling kies and all the Samsung usb/adb drivers off your computer? If not, do try to uninstall all of them (that includes removing all 'samsung' folders in your pc (program files/program filesx86 and in your system registries). Then try to reinstall them again.
Second. When connecting your phone to your PC. Make sure your connected to a strong usb port signal. Some Usb ports(on older pcs) have weak usb signals making your connection weak. I suggest you plug your usb cable preferably at the back of your PC (where the usb port/s have fairly good signal connections). If your using a laptop, try to unplug and plug it back on different usb ports to have better usb connection.
That's it. see if Kies will detect your phone already.
2nd option.
Instead of using KIES (Samsung's proprietary sync s/w sometimes sucks big time you know... ), how bout you just try using PC ODIN to flash 4.0.4 ICS stock? You can try to download your specific 4.0.4. stock ICS from your region from here - www.samfirmware.com.
You can try either one of the 2 options above.
Hope it helps a bit. :good:
Cheers.
Don't forget to hit me up a 'Thanks' button if I've helped you some way or the other.

This Thread might help to learn the step to use PC Odin and Selection Firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Use Odin to flash the rom you want, it's more safe and fast.
Is your Device Rooted ? If yes then it is the reason. Un root it and it will be fine.
not rooted

So I just updated the kies windows app and it notified me about the firmware upgrade for my note. After starting the process it properly downloaded the update to the pc and like the normal process, it automatically restarted the phone and started downloading data onto the phone with the 'Downloading..' screen on the phone. The problem is it is stuck at 13% fr the last 1 hour. What to do now?
is it still stuck?
what upgrade was it? do you know the name of the new firmware?

Did just that, it gave me a recovery code and I followed the steps for emergency recovery. The recovery started properly but now the recovery itself is stuck at 6% for the last 15 mins ;( I am the unluckiest guy in the world. What to do now?
the process has been running in the background the whole time and I did not interfere in any way, didnt remove the usb or put anything else.
Download it from samfirmware. Com and install it via pc odin. better for now.
Ics ota updates or through Kies are notorious for failing half way. Stock with pc Odin as nokiamodeln91 says.

Problem Solved
thanks guys for all the replies but I just solved the problem by basically connecting the phone to another pc.
I installed kies on another pc, and connected the device. On this kies emergency firmware recovery dialog box I entered the recovery code that the earlier pc had shown. The second kies then downloaded a recovery firmware and was successfully able to fully restore the device without any loss of config or data.

Hi folks,
this evening i connected my S4A to my Mac and Kies told me there was an update and i decided to let Kies do what Kies can do (what seemed to be a _big_ failure). Kies messed up while uploading the new firmware to the device after just a couple of percent. After a reboot I now see a screen telling me: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I tried an 'recovery mode' with the recovery-code Kies provided. But this gets also stuck at just a few percent.
My next try was to use Odin with the approriate firmware i managed to download after somer hours (man - some servers are really slow theses days) but then i got the message about a missing PIT. =/
Does anyone have an idea of how i should continue from here on?

Skavaer

Can you get into download mode at all? And why Kies? Is that all you have is Mac? I would say if you can get into download at all and have access to a windows device to Odin back to stock MF1. Sorry about your luck though

I can get into download mode and I already tried with Odin in a VirtualBoxed Win7 with the current FW .. (Odin in a VirtualBoxed Win7 to me usually works fine) .. but Odin wanted a PIT.
Why Kies? In my naivity I didn't even in my dreams thought Kies could mess up this bad =/.
Now my dumb question: where can I get a (3-part) stock MF1? Aunt Google was not helpfull.
EDIT: It finally worked - I just had to use the original USB-Cable ..
Good news there! Its amazing how much the cable can make a difference

Exactly the same happened to me. I managed to return to previous state by flashing stock ROM i9295XXUBMK3.

However my issues with no sound and random reboots remain. How annoying it is to reboot phone once or twice everytime you want to make a phone call. And byebye receiving phonecalls.. If anyone knows solution to this, I'd be glad to try it.
