Hi people, please share your experience with JB, what's good and not so good
Thanks,
Sent from my LT29i using xda premium

I have been using it for a week or so now.
Pros:
Smoother
Google Now
Feels a lot more friendly compared to ICS (Maybe cause its slightly faster)
Cons:
Battery life is slightly slower, maybe its not optimized yet or whatever I keep reading
I dont like the new phone and sms apps.

Camera is big improvement.
However, do you guys feel it is lag?
Especially when flipping launcher(sslauncher for me).
Other cons:
Volume wake and smaller navigation bar in "Lt30p themes and apps"is not supported JB version.

XV stock launcher is also a little bit lag
There is a great problem in clear audio+, the volume is not stable, the volume may drop and up suddenly

On Xperia T with JB.
Pros::
Its ****ing awesome. Its like upgrading from froyo to gingerbread. Theres so many new things.
Its much smoother.
I LOVE the locksceen.
Battery life seems to be better for me although I didnt use it for too long with ICS
Cons:
The camera zooming seems to be really bad, dont know if its just me.

jb for me
Jb on my xperia tl
pros: Google now
smoother
better camera
screen navigation when long press(miui like)
cool lock screen
better keyboard
Cons: Google now search bar is a widget and takes up space
battery life drains faster
when you move apps on the home screen they just auto create folders instead of moving around on the screen
it's 4.1.2. not 4.2.1.

Ive experienced a few lags when scrolling on home screen. And i want a black dialer and contacts back!

Pros:
- smooth and fast, no lag
- camera
- google now
- no need to install CM 10 anymore
- battery OK (one day for heavy usage with wifi and data always on)
Cons:
- locksceen easily unlock in the pocket if no PIN
- missing increasing ring
- phone app still loads slow (comparing with CM10)
Overall a very good experience and I advise the upgrade. until stable CM10.1 or official 4.2.1 I will stay on this ROM.
Mugur
http://mugur-ionescu.ro/tag/xperia

Pros:
- smooth and fast, no lag
- camera
Cons:
Battery drains much faster, with the same app config,3g, corp mail the battery reach 15% at 5pm, with ICS was reaching at 8 9PM.
A lot f BT issues with car audio.

Pros
- UI
- Camera
- Speed
- New Features
Cons
- Huge glitches with update
- Removal of seconds in Timer settings
- Occasionally glitchy on the Homescreen

you can get in the google now by long pressing home button

What's with those stupid lines when you swipe to unlock the lockscreen sorry but I fined that ugly the hole UI is a bit strange looks more like Motorola on Gingerbread not what I was expecting

Pros:
- speed
- smoothness
- more RAM an better multitasking
- slightly better UI (nice lockscreen but I wish it had swipeable notifications with missed calls, SMS, etc.)
- new beautiful themes
- amazingly fast camera
- I like new Dialer and SMS app even if it's white
Cons:
- loads of bugs, glitches and similar
- battery life much shorter than on ICS
- I have problems with radio and wakelocks caused by Keypad service and SMSDispatcher waking up my phone gazillion times whichever JB ROM I install (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138980). That's why I got back to ICS.
- not worth updating for now, we should wait for future releases and bugifixes. It's just a first release

Oh sweet!
Press and hold the Home button
It launches Google.
Very nice thing.
BTW Why this forum is displayed greyed out on Stock Browser?

I want to report I just moved apps to the sd card.
Than rebooted and boom! The phone works fine so no hard reset needed.
I am happy I was able to deal with it with my knowledge at least.

Yes, that works, as I found out lots of times whilst playing temple run...

I also noticed that the headphones output is not really good in quality.
Clear Audio is nice but it cuts the volume and is a bit unnatural.
This is to be fixed I guess.
All in all JB is sweet but Sony traditionally screwed it here and there.
I really wonder what's going on. This is a norm now and I don't really like the fact that
those updates are usually half baked.

I thought this at first with Claudio, but found disabling it, setting your eqs to your preference then enabling it again, it behaves better, and keeps the eq settings.

any new visible features? has the UI changed in some way? scroling the apps?

hmmm....
Exactly... more intrested in LG 2.3 changelog , rather then the google one...
- add widget media
- led buttons don't always light up anymore
- no more root
- very fast wifi connexion
- 7 home pages
2 new widgets: traffic and inTouch(is 1 is really cool)
blue overscroll effect
1 nexus LWP, buttons not always lighten up,polaris office is revamped,
overall speed increased...dats about all the changes i find'
the much missed "add to playlist" is there & tweaked music app
improved text selection
2 new widgets
little revamp...progress bar has corner edges instead of the froyo rounded edges
BTW,there are 4/5 wallpapers in /system/app (.odex) which is not showing up anywhere
Camera shutter sound can be deactivated... I Know some people wanted this, I don't really know if 2.2 had it in the latest versions...
@achyut: I had Traffic from the beginning, so it's not a new widget! Actually you could be right, the rom didn't had it but if you updated the apps it was there!

thats lg changelog...look at lgblog.de
my first impressions:
-the overall responsiveness is better than in stock froyo
-lg launcher is smoother than in froyo but not perfectly smooth
-camera shutter sound can be disable but I dont know if the AF sound can be disabled
-Battery life seems to be quite good, but using 3g web browsing it can be seen a big slope in the battery graph
-GTA3 runs laggy, more than in Nova 8
-Other average games like Fruit ninja which responsiveness and smothness was not good in stock froyo now it is
-I got a force close with the market
I couldn't mess with it too much but in overall I would say until CM7 is totally bugfree this firmware is the choice for me. If you need root then I would go with Nova 8. The last CM7 rom I tried was #34 and was quite stable but meh... still not perfect and I dont want to spend so much time messing with the phone, I did it enough until now. A phone should make our lifes easier not more complicated.

Google seems to have screwed it up with this one...

5.0 was something I really looked forward to...once I got around to flashing it however, man it's taking a huge decrease in the performance department compared to 4.4.4. Here are some of the things I noticed:
1. Laggy UI overall - opening apps, loading, caching is all much slower now - not the animations, just the time lag before the animation/after animation.
2. Bad battery life - is it me or has the battery really taken a hit? Today I got out of the house at 8AM and by 3PM I get the 15% battery saver notification. With about 2.5 hrs of SOT. Before I used to get at least 3+.
3. Unnecessary animations - I do not understand the whole "logical part" of L's animations. They claim apps now "open from somewhere". All I'm seeing is that they slide up now. IMO, it was more logical before, the app used to extend diagonally FROM its icon itself. On top of that, the animations are more laggy too.
4. Colours/Icons - what is with the colour choices of teal, etc. in the backgrounds and all over the UI? Starting to look like Touchwiz. And, the triangle/square/circle are totally random choices of shapes...the arrow, home, etc. were more logical.
5. Google Apps - Google apps are ever-more confusing to use now with a plethora of headings under the swipe menus (i.e. Gmail, Inbox, Photos, etc.). More importantly, the font is now super small...the nice big font in KitKat was way nicer and had easy-to-understand menus. Chrome is way worse - tabs have become "apps" and the only way to switch between them is to access recent apps. No more new tab button, no more swipe between tabs, and it crashes like no tomorrow. Calendar is so-so..it's harder to delete events now.
Overall KitKat was way smoother, cleaner UI, very accessible, but only lacked a couple key features. Looks like Project Butter is gone. An update is fast needed.
The Good:
Dialer and Messenger apps are far better than the stock on KitKat (UI/usability-wise). I really like lock-screen notifications.
(1) Wat? No lag here. (stock, no root)
Won't comment about (2) and above (yet).

Please tell us your method of installing 5.0?
Sent from my Android 5.0 Nexus 5
1. Not laggy for me too. It works smooth. Did a clean install.
2. Battery life seems to be fine.. Did not see any improvements yet..but definitely not a deterioration..
3. This may be a personal preference. I actually like the animations.
4. Again personal preference. I love the color scheme of lollipop. Bright colors and white just works.
5. I agree there is a confusion with Email app redirecting to gmail and Inbox which manages Gmail..haha what a mess. But I can get used to it. Agnostic about the font size change. I hated the chrome tabs which showed up in multi tasking, but I just turned the feature off. Now I have all the swipe to switch tabs, swipe down to see tabs etc.
Even though I like Lollipop overall, I agree with several of your points:
Battery life is much worse than the first DP released months ago. That was amazing. Now, I still have a better battery life while actually using the phone, compared to KitKat, but the standby power consumption is worrying: I get a 5% drop by just leaving my phone in airplane mode for one night, which would barely take 1% on android 4.4...
The UI doesn't look laggy at all to me, but I must admit that some animations are pointless; others are pleasant though.
I like the UI of some of the new Gapps instead: gmail is really well made, especially in the tablet version, calendar is ok and the changes in the other ones (maps, keep, newsstand) didn't affect usability.
At first I didn't like chrome either, but after you get used to the new way to use it, it's not that bad. Anyway, you can disable the new tab view and revert to the classical UI whenever you want
Sent from my Nexus 5
Lags what?? Come on. Mine is running butter smooth like never before. Much much fluid and consistent than Kitkat 4.4.4. And stop criticizing UI based on colors and all. These are subjective elements and opinions always vary greatly from person to person. Most of the people are liking this new UI. It does have a character and feel of liveliness unlike any previous android UI.
PS: And for once in a lifetime, do checkout settings under Chrome.
Odd
Got no lag issues
Battery is better for me
3 ~ 5 are taste choices not issues, i love the new ui and animation
Maybe its time to see if any oem offer better looks to your taste
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
People if you read all his comments, all items are so subjective. Colors can look ugly to you but not to everyone. Battery would be because of how you use it. Gapps, are made not your sake and fonts that are small for your is enough for someone. Again, post issues that are show stopper.
@OP: Damn right they have. The OTA updates have stopped as well. I think the rest of us (99%) should be receiving Android 5.0.1 or something next month. Till then... no updates.
In chrome you can change the tab style under settings
I sideloaded the OTA and my phone was laggy and had a few force closes so I flashed the factory image and it's fine. Fast, smooth and works.
This is the price you pay for being an early adopter. It has happened before on nexus devices in the past. It's going to take them at least one or even two more updates to polish it.
Concerning chrome tabs, go to settings in chrome and turn off "merge tabs and apps".
You can turn off system animations from developer options in settings, or make them a bit faster by setting the value to .5x
As for unnecessary apps, you can disable the apps you don't want to see, or if you're rooted, you can delete them for good.
I want to say that after week od testing Lollipop (AOSP version with Hybrid Kernel) I went back to Omni ROM based on KitKat. Why? Because for me Lollipop is not as smooth as KitKat. I mean especially animations that are often laggy. Check out for example Play Store. Search any app with huge description, click "More informations" and then click "x" button to close whole description. For me this animation was very laggy. It's only example but I just felt worse smoothness and responsive in compare to KitKat. Even recent apps panel opens slower than KitKats one. It should not supposed to be so. I feel on KitKat 100% comfortable in daily use, not on Lollipop. I like new look and features but KitKat is faster.
And I will not change my mind, I'm not a noob and I can see the difference. I will wait month or two for custom ROMs and I will check out Lollipop again.

I've been on the nexus line for 4 generations, but no one can answer your question with 100% certainty. It might take a x.x.1 or even x.x.2 update to iron things out.
I would say this transition is even bigger than gingerbread 2.3 -> 4.0 ICS was.
Choppy animations, FC's and inconsistencies in apps are normal at this stage. Apps will update in time. And i mean all apps in general, not just GApps.
1. No lag here.
2. Getting 4 hours + SoT, even on Developer Preview I was getting nearly 5.
3. Everything looks better in slow-mo.
4. Touchwiz is so much more random. Colors everywhere, heavy theming, where as Google has a constant flow. Maybe they just got tired if everything being black(might've been nice in the N6)
5. I always hated the Photos thing, but getting use to it quickly. I can see where Google is trying to go.
The font is beautiful to me. I love it.
Chrome, you can change it from recent apps back to normal in Chrome settings(I don't know if you read the instructions for that)
Calendar looks beautiful, but haven't used it yet.
Now. Remember that Lollipop was JUST released, therefore only the start of things to come. KitKat had many improvements done to it to become what it was.

Ohno, I meant the animations. You see it more in slow-mo. I'm not saying put your phone animations like 2x's slower.
In an Android Police post, they made GIFS of the animations. To the eye it looks like a slide, but in thebGIFS it was beautiful.
No lag here.
Battery is improved in my case ( on avg-extreme usage).
But apps takes longer time to install. But I know its due to the ART , but performance wise its a clear winner.
No force closes even on extreme multitasking.
My device is rooted just to install ViperFx everything else is completely stock.

Yes, I noticed this since first preview came out. I thought it would be fixed in final factory image, but it didn't.
I installed Lollipop with full wipe option (-w) and still laggy everywhere(Drawer, multi-tasking, even opening setting).
Third party apps which have services running in background are only Facebook Messenger and Yahoo!Weather, tried removing them but no help.
I am so jealous of you guys who didn't encounter this issue :crying:
BTW, I also noticed taking some HDR+ shots makes system holding more memory (and never release them).

Lollipop First Impressions

Since Lollipop is out and everyone is eager to know how it is well here is my quick review to Lollipop (Customised US version)
Well it feels great very great ! and very fast !
The animations are fluid
New Features such as Ultra Stamina Mode
Album art in lockscreen when playing music
Multi User
Move2Sd
Smart Unlock
Bravia Engine seems better
Smart notification (When Someone calls you the answer screen won't be full screen instead it is a notification at the top if you are using the phone )
Boot Animation sound
Powered by android line
Take Screenshot from power menu
Pause while recording video
Sound photo
Front Camera face recognition
But there are some minor annoyances
Such as
1- Icons are too big
2- Clock Widget is too small
3-Smart Unlock voice isn't working as it should
4-No X-Loud
5- Close all button is ugly
6-Notification bar looks ugly if the app wasn't designed to use the API
agree..its all good...an yea the icons are too big for our screen..at 1st wen it booted i tought wtf... bug or sometng..then tought mayb in settings the txt is very big lol... an yea close all looks crap n the notificaation panel to...hope in nxt bug fix update they give us a proper close all button.. n fix the icons looks wierd...its like usen z ultra launcher on zr

First impressions of LP
Last night I flashed US c5502 fw on my phone.
The first boot took longer than expected and phone got very hot. I could no hold it in hand.
So I kept it as it is without going through initial setup. Phone battery was 49%
Today morning when I checked the battery was at 49% ( surprised and shocked )
I did the setup and started discovering the LP.
The UI is butter smooth. actually its smoother than KK 4.4.4
All latest apps are there like home, keyboard, etc. US fw has lesser bloats than indian fw so I am thinking to use it for a while.
Disabled unwanted apps which can be disabled. I havent tried rooting yet. Wifi BT Data connection work flawlessly. there is no drop in 3G connectivity which I experienced a lot in 4.4.4
I hope sony will release the update for heating issue once they get all the feedbacks

This is because of the new feature present in every Lollipop ROM - Android Runtime (ART), a new method of building app cache. It takes a lot more space to compile, but the user apps are faster, and that's why you guys feel like the ROM is smooth and fast.
Every older version used Dalvik runtime - a slower version than the new one.

Poor battery is due to processor heating which is hardware issue. Software update would not make much difference.
Nougat is certified for Z3+ and Z5 http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/01/1...or-xperia-z5-and-z3-plus-series-32-3-a-0-372/

MinMinGuard/Greenify/XNotifications/Youtube AdAway etc useful stuffs. With Android N-ify the difference between M and N is practically indistinguishable.

Got the update, installing now!
EDIT:
- NFC Firmware update pop-up as soon as saw lock screen
- Faceook app crashed
- Crash and reboot when not now clicked for "Personalised app recommendations by Sony" (maybe coz I got to that pop-up before unlocking via MyXperia protection
After reboot:
Sleek smooth UI
Split screen working like charm
so far no other issues, everything working
Can only find for dual...

Can't say about battery, but used camera for some time and everything was normal, didn't notice any significant heating. For me looks like it's gonna be better than MM.
Happy so far!
P.S. There is advanced setting in Stamina mode, 3 levels of savings available now, and on second option no animation is disabled, but slight stutter is seen while scrolling here and there. I turned it on and battery feels like can last 2 days easy on this setting on moderate use. They consume power by unnoticeable degradation in scrolling / animation etc. SWEET!

ty
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. But in N the pics quality are not upto marks. I think thats all because of this focus thing. Now the phone focus the way it wants to).
9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.
If I missed anything than please guys you can add that on your comments.

Lag from home screen to app draw?

Hi all,
As title suggests really, I noticed on my Note 8 that swiping to the app draw and back produces bit of a delay/glitch when flicking between the two, even on high performance mode - Does anyone else have this?
Really annoying as the rest of the device is very smooth but at the minute, my old S6 Edge Plus on android 7 feels just as quick to use, which is disappointing.
The latest update to the launcher on the S8 got rid of that lag and added the ability to pull down notifications with the a swipe down motion anywhere on the home screens. It looks like the launcher on the Note 8 is a little behind so hopefully we'll get that update soon.
I use Nova with no lag.
I use stock and it's the fastest I have ever had on a Sammy between home and app drawer. I regularly swipe up down for fun as it's great to watch. Mybe you have an app slowing you down. Also get DEVELOPER rights in settings and turn off all those 1x speed settings on graphics.

Odd you mention that as mine is completely stock and I first noticed this when I first turned it on, so I hadn't even started installing my own apps yet.
Maybe I should re-flash it and see if that'll help.
