PowerA MOGA problems - Galaxy Note II Accessories

Still beating my head against this one. Damn thing randomly disconnects from the phone during game play, and ONLY during gameplay. It sat connected on the home screen for about 45 minutes, even though it's supposed to "sleep" after about 10 minutes. I'm also seeing the control issues, with extra button presses, and overshooting analog sticks.
Is it the Pivot app? If I replace it with the Universal drivers, will it still work correctly with Wild Blood?

Did you give universal a shot? Did it work?

Car dock disables

Does anyone else have a problem with the car dock randomly disabling and playing on regular speaker mode? Almost every time I dock it the phone will stop and using the navigation on it I need the loud dock speaker not the regular phones speaker. The phone still shows the orange light so it seems to still be connected to the power. I thought bumps may cause the plug to get lose and disconnect but since the orange light is on I don't think its that plus reconnecting it sometimes doesn't help. Any ideas? I'm going to use it for a 8 hour drive so I hope someone helps!!

Mine seems to goof up if I leave wifi on. Try turning off wifi. That seems to work for me. Sometimes if I drive past a house or whatever that has wifi my phone picks it up and it seems to goon up my car dock connection. Hope this helps

my wifi automatic turns off when i leave my remembered locations so i know its not on. its so annoying to worry about the gps/phone/navigation when getting turn by turn directions. this is because even though the phone has been connected and the light stays on when returning from the long drive the and undocked the phone i found the phone very low on battery. i dont understand why if i always checked the light to make sure its not being disconnected since i thought that would mean its not using the battery to power it. this time i am going to try like 4 apps that say they will keep it in dock mode bluetooth on so we will see. i wish i didnt have to load all these apps and just knew which works but i cant risk this happening in a big busy city.

This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and repair the dock. Works after that.

will keep this in mind. i noticed another problem. i lowered the audio when playing pandora internet radio but i cannot put it back to loud! ive tried audiomanager and nothing. used navigation to turn it up but it says its maxed already yet both are very low. its so odd that i can lower the audio but not make it louder. ive now lowered it to like 1 bar and cant hear nothing unless totally silent in the car. ive even downloaded some apps to max the dock audio but i dont think they worked. time to reinstall cm i guess.

Did you try the volume buttons on the dock?

Oops, just noticed a typo. My sentence should read like this: "This happens to me too, every once in a while. What I do is unplug the dock from the power, plug it back in, insert my N1 into the dock, go into settings and re-pair the dock (via Bluetooth). Works after that.

yea thahts the problem i cant make the volume higher just lower and no way i can get to the phones buttons without undocking the phone. hmmm i wonder if the volume is in the actual dock and a unplug will restore it.
Have had this problem (random bluetooth disconnects) with the car dock since, I think, 2.2.1 came along. Reseting the car dock (power off and on) sometimes resolves the issue. Prior to 2.2.1 I don't think this problem existed. Anyone confirm that ?
*Update* Nexus One died totally today and is being collected by HTC UK tomorrow. That might explain some of the more bizarre behaviour I have been seeing.
ive had the problem on 2.1 but it wasnt a big deal for around town. found it a pain in unknown cities especially noisy highways using the stock speaker on the phone. i got home today from the trip i must take every 6 months and stayed parked trying to figure it out. 1st thing i had to do was up the volume. i found a nice app called a2dp volume that helped restore max volume on the actual car dock. at that exact moment it was docked but switched back to speaker kicking off all car dock apps like navigation and car mode. i just left it in the dock trying not to tiggle anything to reactate it and checked the settings-wireless and bluetooth. under bluetooth settings way at the bottom in paired devices i saw the car dock nexus one. it said it was paired but not connected. i held down the item and clicked connect (also if clicking the item gives you like 3 checkmarks 2 checked but 1st box is unchecked named Connect) and that is how i fix it now. really annoying to navigate through all that just to reconnect the bluetooth to the device. looking for a app that will help with this. if anyone finds it please reply!
When you say your wifi turns off, does it turn itself back on when you go back to you remembered networks? If so disable wifi completely.

i have a app called y5 that completely turns off the wifi when away from the remembered area. with that app, i cannot turn on/off the wifi because the app will not allow changes unless i turn off that app.

Netflix Chromecast annoyances

I have to say, Netflix has a pretty lousy interface for watching a series episode-after-episode. Here is how it usually goes:
- Watching an episode, and the end credits start to roll. I'd rather just advance now to the next episode. My tablet is what I originally casted from.
- Press the tablet power button and I get the Netflix lock screen but none of the buttons are what I want.
- Have to press back to get the real lock screen.
- Then unlock.
- Then pull down the notification shade, and wait 10 or more seconds for the app to load.
- Then have to tap the little "i" where the show is named in order to get the episode list.
- If I fat-fingered it, I might have just pressed the "play" button for what may not be the next episode depending on whether Netflix is in the right headspace or not.
- If I accidentally tap that play button twice it might in fact advance one more episode further and start showing me spoilers in the opener of a new episode!
- Also usually by the time I accomplish all of this, the end credits have finished rolling.
The biggest annoyance is, the main Netflix app screen has no pause or stop controls. They are present in the notification shade but that often does not happen until *after* I switch out of the app. And pressing the blue bar takes 5-10 seconds to load the controls. So when Netflix bungles up and starts showing me something I don't want to watch because of spoilers, I have to resort to turning off the TV to prevent myself from seeing what I'm not supposed to see yet.
Another related annoyance - about 10-30% of the time, when I press any of the controls in the notification shade (back 10 seconds, pause, stop), Netflix does not obey but instead it goes to the red splash screen and makes me wait 10+ seconds to get the main Netflix screen which still does not have pause controls. So if I miss an important line and want to go back sometimes I spend a full minute fighting with the damn thing and then pressing the rewind button multiple times to go back to the scene I really wanted. And when it misbehaves when I'm trying to, say, answer the door or the phone, again I sometimes just have to resort to shutting off the TV which means I lose my proper position in the episode.
I suppose I should get in the habit of pressing pause from the lock screen, even if what I am planning to do next is advance to the next episode, as that seems to be less failure-prone than the notification shade.

I think it is the Netflix Android app which has been very poorly designed, and has nothing to do with casting... the web interface seems to be smoother... I haven't ever seen it being used on an iOS device so can't talk about the UX on that platform... all said and done, yes it is a bit painful to use the app, but not impossible...
my biggest annoyance with the desktop/laptop cast is that it will always play to your computer first, then you have to click the cast button for it to play on your TV.

I'm always surprised at how people on the XDA forums spend much more time crafting complaints than solving problems. This is supposed to be the place where the creative solution producers hang out.
I noticed some of the same things that you did about Netflix and Chromecast. Instead of whining about it I solved it. Here's what I did...
First: "Ten seconds to load the app." Dude, you seriously need a new device. On my Note 2 Netflix loads in 3 seconds from a cold start and almost instantaneously thereafter.
Solutions:
1. Lock Screen: I use a pattern lock but find no reason to have a lock screen in my home. Use an app called Delayed Lock to solve that. Tell Delayed Lock not to use the pattern lock when at home. This avoids the lock screen. when you're at home, or in your car, etc. When you turn the phone on it just goes to the last screen with no lock screen at all.
2. Turning on the phone: When watching Netflix I use the "KeepScreen" app to keep my phone's screen on whenever the Netflix app is running. The phone just sits there on my couch's armrest powered on with Netflix up. I can easily pause or jump back. What's more, when the credits start to roll I just slide the scrubber all the way to the right and the episode ends. Done. (You may want to plug your phone in if you keep the screen powered on. I don't normally need plug my phone in as I have a Note 2.)
3. Netflix does have a pause button. Tap in the middle of the screen and the pause button appears. I've used it many times.
Should the Netflix app be better designed? Yes. Will it be? Who knows. But it's infinitely better to present solutions instead of gripes.
So sue me, I needed to vent.

Well good for you. I'm running a 2012 Nexus 7. There is really no reason why a freaking quad core processor should be taking 10 seconds to load Netflix after it drops out of memory while Chromecasting, but it does. It seems to take longer to come back if it's been casting.

Agreed. Something's definitely amiss there. Try a different ROM.

Well hey, the XDA powers that be only set up one forum for all things Chromecast. So that means all general discussions, Q&A and development go into the same forum. If you don't like seeing people vent in the forum then convince the moderators to open up a development subforum

[Q] Screen On or Off when HDMI Mirroring?

I'm planning to buy a AppRadio 3 headunit for my Jeep, and use the ARLiberator app to unlock it so it mirrors my Z1 on the in-dash screen (I'll provide a link to a YouTube video below for clarification). It mirrors it using an HDMI cable into the back of the headunit (full size HDMI).
This Sony HDMI Cable is what I plan to buy, and do what was stated above, however I've seen mixed reviews on something. The Phone is cradled directly beside the headunit. Does HDMI Mirroring (the basic function, not the ARLibereator app) keep the screen on at all times? Or if I hit the power button on my phone, will it keep mirroring to the "TV"?
The ARLiberator app downscales everything, and transfers touchscreen actions and what not via Bluetooth, and then uses the HDMI Mirroring to show me the screen, as well as charge the phone.
AppRadio 2 Demo (AppRadio 3 released after, more features, etc.)
@Wiltron That's a cool idea man.
From my experience if you turn the screen off than you will see a black screen on your receiving device.
Note that this is my experience with miracast but I'm sure that hdmi will work the same way.
Hi,
With my experience with Nexus 10 and Xoom HDMI, the screen will be on until the screen timeout reaches, if you turn off the screen, HDMI will be black too. But there are some apps that can turn the screen black, but still on, like Screen Standby . That's a good idea man.

Interception of Home Button

When I am using Android Auto I noticed it intercepts the home launcher, and prevents me from navigating away (unless I try and go through notifications, but that adds a separate step). Anyone got a fix for that? Xposed module or the like?
It does that because you're not supposed to use your phone while driving. So, basically done by design.
It doesn't take into account the possibility that a passenger might want to use the phone.

Press the task button, the left one on samsungs for instance, and then the home button.
I am wondering if this same trick will be possible on soft button phones like the s8 or Nexus line?
For me, I was going to use Tasker and various plugins to bypass this. I downloaded AutoInput and Secure Settings, and ran them. Didn't actually make any modifications. Then the next time I was in Android Auto and I hit the home button on my s7e, I was asked to pick an app to complete the action. I was given Tasker and Android Auto to choose from. Clicked Tasker and bam! Now it works just like normal. I can have Spotify on my phone and navigation on the dash. It's also handy for illegal-while-driving tasks. However I still say that a little sense goes a long way. Knock on wood but I've never even come close to a fender bender from tech in the car. I've had full blown windows PCs installed with touch screen dash boards... I've had laptop mounts like the cops have. I've got a Nexus u mounted in one car. Hundreds of thousands of miles of 'distracted' driving, and not even a close call.
There's a slider between Attention vs Distraction. You should obviously lean towards giving attention to the driving task when conditions call for it. Same goes for eating a burger, chatting on the phone, smacking your kids around, or checking out the hottie wearing a belt as a skirt walking down the road.
Tech while driving shouldn't be illegal...Being a **** driver should be.
So the s8 soft buttons remove the recents key. Neato. You have to use a Bixby app to remap and do the aforementioned trick.
Hi;
since i have moved from android 4.12 to android 5.1.1 i have the "frozen Home Button" problem, too.
Is there meanwhile a solution for this isse? Is there a patch available to solve this problem?
In my case i don't use AnroidAuto, and i don't want to install it !!!
But when i want to use my own choice of driving apps ... i can't because when i plug my Samsung S2 into the car dock, the home Button freezes, and most times when i push it, the phone system freezes on a black site.
This is very annoying and surely not a save system behaviour while driving.
It seems like Google wants to force me to use AndroidAuto. BUT I DON'T WANT !!!
What can i do to bring back the normal HomeButton functionallity when my phone is plugged into the car dock??
Thanx for infos ...

screen attention

Hi. Was just wondering what other users experiences were with the screen attention function.
I have nothing but praise for the pixel 4xl. Everything works perfectly and even the battery is fine for my use.
The only thing is the screen attention feature. I have it switched to "on" but no matter how long I stare directly at the screen, it will go into standby as if I'd just left it sitting on it's own.
Just curious how others have found this function.
Thanks.
Same here.

It does not seem to work for me if the phone is lying flat on a surface. It seems to work only if I'm holding the phone up.

It seems to work fine for me, though it does work differently than Samsung's implementation. Or it feels that way.
Anyways, I have an Xposed module that monitors camera usage and makes it very easy to see what it is doing. For instance, if my timeout is 15 seconds, it opens the camera every 10-11 seconds for less than a second if it sees me looking at it. A couple seconds more if I'm not visible, then the camera closes and the screen dims before turning off. By the time the screen dims, the camera is already off and only touching the screen will prevent it locking. In my hand or on a surface doesn't seem to change anything for me.
Doesn't work very well at all.
for me it often even works really good in my car at the magnetic car mount, even though I'm not really looking on at my phone. also works fine when I use it normally. I set the screen timeout to 2 mins, don't know if that makes a big difference
Screen Attention not working
Restart the phone. It will work fine untill you use camera or any calling app that is using camera. After that Screen Attention feature will not work though the screen attention is on. This seems a bug. Dont know how to report to google.

I don't think this is a widespread problem as I cannot reproduce it. If an app is currently using the camera, Screen Attention cannot and the phone might sleep. As long as the camera is properly not-in-use, Screen Attention works.
