I have a Samsung Galaxy Pop with “com.android.phone” error each time the device restarts. The network goes down and comes back again. This happens twice.
I had upgraded my handset from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 using Kies in Sept 2012. I somehow got a chance to copy the I559DDEH31_HOME.tar.md5 file which Kies creates for upgrade. The contents of the file are amss, boot.img, cache.rfs, recovery.img & system.rfs.
I have tried Odin to flash but have been unsuccessful.
I would like to know if I can use “dd if=/dev/block/stl12 of=/sdcard/system.rfs bs=4096” command using adb shell to restore the handset to its original state?
I am not that good at Android so would like to know if somebody can help me.

Why don't u flash a new gingerbread 2.3.6 stock rom? Froyo is kind of outdated. Make sure to backup your contacts and everything if u decide to do so.

Hi Kirakun,
I would love to do that but unfortunately I am not able to find dedicated Gingerbread 2.3.6 stock rom for Samsung Galaxy Pop CDMA (India) SCH-I559.
I have searched a lot but found only for Samsung Galaxy mini or S5570 which are the GSM versions of the same model.
I have also found that some have already bricked their phones using the other versions.
So I have decided to stick to froyo.
I just wanted to make sure that if I restore the /system partition using system.rfs command (dd if=/dev/block/stl12 of=/sdcard/system.rfs bs=4096) shouldn't create any new problems.

My bad i was not aware of this different version. Yes do try what dheeraj has said.
I think that entering recovery should be same for u, just switch off phone, press home button and power button simultaneously and hopefully you will enter recovery.
Navigate using volume button and do a wipe data and cache. Doing so you will lose any app and everything from your phone, so do a backup before.

I have done the wipe data and cache. Below is the response:

But unfortunately same error.
I cannot flash firmware as I do not have one supported for this model of samsung (CDMA version). KIES says that the firmware is up to date so cannot flash from there as well.

In case if you don't mind I would like to know how my phone will get ruined if I use the system.rfs from the original firmware file downloaded by Kies?
Secondly, is there a particular version of ODIN I need to use for this handset? I have tried 1.85, 3.07 and 4.38 versions.
Actually I do not have any other files than the I559DDEH31_HOME.tar.md5 required by ODIN.
I would prefer to go to Samsung service centre only when I am left with no option or if the handset fails to do its regular tasks.
Anyways, thanks for your suggestion.

Alternatively I can also do when the phone is in download mode..
What do u think?
well you can't in download mode
but of you have cwm then it would be easy
open system.rfs with soft which can mount iso etc.
Copy the content of system to you sdcard
now flash aroma file manager and with the help of that copy all the files your your system.rfs to your system partition
and with dd it may copy files to /system/system or directly to /root

I used a linux machine to mount the system.rfs. Extracted phone.apk and installed the app using root explorer.
Finally the problem com.android.phone has been resolved..

Ok
Please forgive me I have spent up to 7 hours today searching and trying but to no luck.
So I didnt realise what i was doing and Semi Bricked my Phone. I edited build.prop and saved it in MyExplorer(name?) to try and turn off the camera sounds and when I rebooted, it just gets stuck on the galaxy S 2 screen, boot loop.
I'm on SGSII (Australia) Stock Vodafone's ICS 4.0.3 Rooted.
I have CWM installed but tried a few things:
- I can get into Download MOde (no idea what to do here)
- I can get into CWM mode 5.0.2.7 Recovery mode but cant do anything still.
- I tried various Edify script builders to try and put the original build.prop back in but get multiple Status 0 errors whenever I try update.zip from the SD card.
- I tried rebuilding the backup on there and changing the build.prop file on there and trying to restore but MD5 check fails. Even tried rebuilding the MD5 file with the modified files and still no luck. MD5 files fails.
Would anyone have any suggestions and how to resolve this without a flash or wipe? I didnt back recent backup and will lose everything.
I am coming to a point where I really am wanting to back to Apple
There are 2 build.props attached. One is the bad one that stopped me from booting up and I found another one that was named .bak (extension taken off) I found in the same directory (/SYSTEM)
If anyone can help me build an update.zip to push in via CVM I would greatly be in your debt (I tried for 4 hours with no luck)
If you have recovery and download mode yet nothing is lost.
In first, do saved your apps ?
If you had saved them or if it doesn't matter to you, reflash a rom via recovery
LINK HERE:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/2773/cm-9-20120615-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.zip
Flash it GoogleApps folder
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
The rom that I attached to the reply is a CM9 ICS version, it's quitly stable and we can have some settings on it.
If it doesn't work reflash with Odin (it's with software who use the Download Mode)
http://hotfile.com/dl/149514867/aea2f22/I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO.zip.html
Instructions
-Unzip the Rom Folder ( I9100XXLPQ..........)
-Open the included Odin
-Put your phone on Download Mode
-Click PDA and select I9100_CODE_I9100XXKP*_CL*_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
-Click PHONE and select MODEM_I9100XX*_REV_02_CL*.tar.md5
-Click CSC and GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXA*.tar.md5
-Click Start and don't touch anything still the colored case become green
-And now your phone resurrects
Reply me of results
thanks for your reply
unfortunately i didnt save my apps and havent got backups of my data either
i cant reach the file via ADB either, when i run ADB (have KIES installed and worked before) - adb devices.
nothing shows up when the phone is stuck on "Samsung GS2" screen.
do you have any recommendations around keeping my data there?
If you find the exact same software your on now to download you could try flashing that in cwm without wipes I think that would work i think it replaces all system stuff so it will work, worth a try

what if i just want to flash build.prop via update.zip?
i tried so many methods but it always fails. is anyone able to create a update.zip for me?
i used a GUI script creator to try and update it via CWM recovery mode but it doesnt seem to like it.
If i turn off signature verification, it gives me a (status 0) error saying : E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
and if i turn on verification toggle, it says E: signature verification failed
can anyone help?

Can you mount any sd on your pc, because you can the recovery mount trick to access to your data.
When you are in the recovery menu, go to mount and storage and click on "mount usb storage" and the internal and external sd will appear on your pc.
you are posting in galaxy s thread....repost in galaxy s2 thread
I don't think so but then again I don't own a s2 but you can select advanced restore: restore data then flash a compatible ROM, then restore the data if you worried but as I said before flashing the same ROM shouldn't remove user data

Have you tired using a pit file?
flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com with ODIN.(eg. jw5)
to extract the password is "samfirmware.com"
tick repartition and use 512 pit file(included in rom from samfirmware).
check youtube for "flash with odin" if u dont know how.
edit:u are trying to flash from from samsungs 3 recovery.u need cwm(clockworkmod) to flash.
go to CF-ROOT(for i-9000) thread and follow instructions and read all in the OP(1-2-3 posts)
again u need ODIN to flash it.
hey
there is the best wasy to do that...just go to sammobile.com
there sign up first and then download the firmware (in firmware tab) and flash-programs...
the make sure to use oidn3_v1.0 only...
you can also download the flash-guide if you need it...
its simple..

And then it keep showing me GT 9000 logo......
yes i used 512pit and using 1.82 odin
I know there is way to install in to external SDcard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdMhYYdMB08
I had such error and successfully installed rom in to sdcard but i had issue with phone signal, so tried to re install rom and now its keep teling me cant mount data..

Yep, keep shows only gt-9000 logo..
I had a very similar problem earlier this year.
From what I could see the partitions on the phone's internal storage weren't able to be accessed. In adb I tried using parted and rm but the partitions there (/dev/block/mmc/blk0) didn't ever change. I also tried various .pit files and Android versions through Odin but nothing worked.
I took my phone in for repairs after flashing a really old version; as close as possible to what it came with, and they fixed it. The repair was due to 'mechanical fatigue' according to them. I assumed the internal storage was some how broken or corrupted and couldn't be written to.
Not sure, if you manage to solve this.
From you screenshots I can see you are using 3e recovery. I would suggest you to flash a kernel which support cwm recovery mode.
I have heard peoples getting this error while using it on 3e.

Yes Captain_17, i have exactly same problem, cant give it to repair since purchased it from abroad.

3e recovery because i`ve flashed 2.2 and 2.2.1 or any other official roms, i can flash CWM easy but as Captain_17 said i can see but cant touch
files or partitions.
If flash CWM then phone will boot to CWM only, and i cant flash any rom from CWM because i cant copy files to internal storage and external (sdcard) cwm doesn't see it.
Sorry man, wish I could be of more help. I tried every available option I could find online but nothing worked.
Seems to be a hardware problem and replacing the damaged part is the only solution.
Silly question, but you ticked re-partition? try flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.3 with 512 pit and repartition
Also, you could try to flash Darky ressurection via odin, not completely stock rom. I know that this is just tweaked stock, but you could try do that.
And, you could try to use Heimdall instead of odin - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
I have read somewhere that heimdall is more preferable than odin in some cases.

Hy!
I have just soft-bricked my mobile (i9000) with the new JB.Miui rom, i fixed it.

How to fix it?
Please help me

i have the same error when i wipe the dalvik cache but i've never met errors to flash JB rom.
If somebody knows to what corresponds this error it would be cool.

I don't know what this error corresponds to but this does not affect the flashing process at all.. This error has started coming from ICS roms onwards. When you click on clear dalvik cache you'll get this error, after that confirm to clear the dalvik cache and it'll clear it.
So don't worry about that.

Error in archive means that the file you downloaded is not good.. you'll have to redownload the file.. I would suggest flashing CM based rom first i.e. either CM9 or CM10 then moving on to other ICS or JB roms...
About the other error, don't worry about it.. that won't affect any flashing though why it comes I don't know.. I think I got the same error too many times earlier but it doesn't affect the procedure.

I dont think you flashed it correctly in odin, you must flash both files,
Instructions. These are divided into two parts:
PART 1 (Flashing the base ROM):
1. Again, a reminder. Backup all your stuff before starting.
2. Wipe/Factory Reset phone. This is required. Turn off phone and then boot into
Recovery (Vol UP+Home Key+the Power Button.). Select the 'wipe data/factory reset'
option (using Power button if on custom ROM/custom kernel, or the Home key if on
stock I9000 firmware). Then select Yes to do it.
3. Now, turn off your phone by removing the battery and enter the Download mode by
pressing the Vol DOWN+Home Key+the Power Button together. (Will bring up a screen saying 'Downloading'.)
4. Now, run ODIN and connect phone to the computer. ODIN will say 'Added'.
5. Tick the 'Repartition' option, and then select the following files in ODIN (from the
folder you extracted the base package in):
● PDA: darky_odin.tar.md5
● PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
6.6. Press the Start button and wait for it to finish. Once it finishes,
Disconnect the phone from the computer after phone reboots.
7. After ODIN completes procedure and the phone reboots, a screen will come on the
phone with 'Android system recovery <2e>' written at the top, and the following text will
be written at the bottom:
"E:Invalid command argument
--Install from package--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Muti CSC...
Installing Muti CSC"
Don't panic. Just press the 'reboot system now' using the Home key and the phone will
restart and boot. Congratulations, you have the base Darky's ROM installed now. Now
for the next step.
8. Now, we will install Darky's ROM again, through Recovery, to add the things missing
in the base version.
PART 2 (Flashing the CWM zip package from Recovery to get the stuff missing in
the Base ROM)
1. Open the Market, and search for 'darky' and download the DarkyROM Configurator
app and install it.
2. After it is installed, open Darky ROM from the App Menu. Select all the options that
you want to install, and deselect the ones you don't want. DO NOT select Wipe as we
have already done that before using ODIN.
3. After selecting and deselecting the options according to your needs, press back to
save and exit Darky ROM app.
4. Copy the file resurrection.zip (extracted from the ROM’s ZIP file you
downloaded at the start) to your internal sd card.
5. Now shut down the phone, and boot into Recovery again. [Vol UP+Home+Power
key]
6. Now select "Install zip from SDCARD"
> [use volume keys/rocker to move up and down, and the POWER Button to select].
7. Select "Choose zip from SDCARD" and then select the ROM zip file
(resurrection.zip). Then choose "Yes."
8. After the process completes, press 'Go Back' and then 'Reboot system'.
9. Once the phone boots, you will have everything that you selected in the DarkyROM
Configurator.
10. That’s it. The procedure is complete. Enjoy the ROM.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S Plus | GT-I9001
Status: Rooted, and Working - Original OS.
Installed: ROM Manger.
Hardware: Internal SD Card - No external
Hi I'm new here, I have rooted my mobile about a year ago, but haven't done anything else to it, but now I want to install a custom ROM on it.
The ROM I want to to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251671
I have looked around for tutorials about installing a ROM, but every tutorial, says something different... I'm total noob to all this, and paranoid, I don't want to **** my mobile up.
I only have an internal SD card on my, read somewhere that it were possible to do it, if you had the latest version of Clock Work Mod.
Hope someone can guide me through wile doing this :/

N7100 is a Galaxy Note i think. The only thing you need to backup is a file explorer and root. Just backup your efs folder located in your main system directory. There should be a folder called efs. You can use ES File Explorer for that or nitrality.

Seems like something is messed up
Try this:
1. Flash a stock rom with Odin
2. Flash a root kernel for the stock rom
Now you should have everything working.
have you tried to flash cwm via Odin?
Re-Download the file it may have been corrupted
Then follow the guide again.. remember to follow word by word
