Keyboard with USB - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just another idea. Is there a keyboard (foldable) that can connect to the WP8 phone with the USB connection? Would be a work around.

USB OTG would allow this. Sadly WP8 does not include the feature.

any results for it??
OTG adapter fits, but the jump drive doesnt light up, indicating its not being powered, no recognition. but I am sure that there is an OTG chip on the device though. otherwise they would have a standard mini-a usb port.
where can i find an OTG adaptr??
Mine came with a set of usb adapters, for 20$ I can hook anything TO anything!!!
Although google is your best bet.
I also read that the chipset used in this PDA should have support for OTG USB, and that OTG is controlled by 1 pin on the USB connector, and that HTC might
have left it unconnected..
would be possible to connect it and have OTG functionalities?
Otherwise does it exist something like bluetooth hubs which transform usb devices into bluetooth?

USB Host

Coming to Leo from the Advantage I'm missing the USB host cable which allows me to conect USB devices like a standard keyboard, pen drive, etc. Does anyone knows if HTC have plans on this? Or if it will be possible to gat a cable like this for the Leo?
oficially, Leo doesn`t have USB host

[Q] So what can I do with USB support?

Forgive me if a stupid question but the new rage going on is the new USB support for our NCs, what exactly can I do with that functionality now? Examples would be nice. Is it just simple stuff like keyboards, etc?
All of this is unconfirmed, but what I've seen mentioned includes webcams and game controllers in addition to keyboards/mice.
mass storage devices will work as well if you have an external power source
Another stupid question from my side:
How WILL this USB connectivity work? Meaning we connect any USB enabled device to the micro-USB port of the nook from which the charger connects?
That would be cool since that would enable USB keyboards to work with the nook..

And many USB thumb drives work without any external power at all. Not all of them, but an older 2GB of mine works perfectly (especially with the vold file modified so that mass storage devices auto mount)

Would you mind sharing your vold line? Does it work regardless of the sdx partition actually mounted? (In other word, is it wildcarded for any type of flash, or just for your particular drive)

all of my micro usb cards work with a reader.
perhaps they need lesser power to run
So basically, I can plug up a webcam and video chat with a market app? Or am I being too wishful?
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.

Is there a Keyboard/Mouse that will work with the Nook that anyone is using today? Of course, I don't understand how a mouse would work because there is no pointer/cursor in Android is there?
I'd love to be able to have a mouse/keyboard and not have to lug my laptop around on business trips but just use the Nook instead. May be wishful thinking I suppose.
As soon as you connect a mouse, a pointer appears.

Cool, thanks. I have a few micro USB cables and a couple of female to female adapters on the way so I can hook a USB mouse and keyboard up to the cables.

Did you need a powered USB hub for this, or does the nook power the mouse?

Depends on the mouse. If the mouse can run on 100mA, it will work with no hub (personally tested with a Logitech wireless).
Just wondering if anyone knows whether they've gotten the usb headphones with mic to work. I've been following that usb thread in development pretty closely (although I can't post there; not enough general posts, so I guess I'll have to start spamming), and it appears as though they are close, but I haven't seen a post definitely stating that it works. Seems as though they were getting some noise through the mic, but the rate was off. Too fast or too slow or something. Maybe someone knows?
Which Female to Female adapter to get?
I found some Female to Female adapters on Amazon, but they had mixed reviews. If you are using one successfully , I would appreciate more information about where to get it.

Same here. I bought one from ebay for $1.98 but what they sent did not match the description or picture so I killed the charge with AmEx.
As for webcam support, not working as far as I have been able to test. I can get the nook to recognize the cam but the apps do not see it. Have tried yahoo msgr, tango, ooVoo,fring, ect...
As for uses, mouse, keyboard,sd card reader, direct connection to DSLR's for photo transfer, flash drives.
As for flash drives, I have about 20 here from various mfr and only 1 will worrk without a powered hub but using a powered hub, everything works.

[Q] 3G USB Dongle for the Touchpad?

any external 3g dongle on hp touchpad?
edit: sorry i meant 3g dongle not 3d lol
What's that mean?
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
I presume the OP is asking af anyone is aware of any 3G dongles working on the Touchpad. They may do, but as the USB port is unpowered, you will need some way of powering the dongle which is going to defeat the object of portability. You would be better of going for a tether to mobile phone, or using a MiFi.
I dont think webOS has USB networking support. Possibly with an Android port something would work, but for now no.
lol yup i meant 3g obviously and not 3d srry lol ... usb port on touchpad is underpowered? that means every device you connect to it must be self powered?? why such a poor design by hp?

They probably never intended for the touchpad to serve as a USB host. So its just powerful enough to be a client to something else.
On that note, is there any likely chance of using the usb slot for any third party devices?
There are videos around showing how to connect it up with an OTG cable and a Y-cable to run a keyboard. I am waiting for my OTG cable so I can try a powered hub, but it has been reported that this method allows keyboards, USB sticks and hard drives to work.
http://www.precentral.net/hp-touchpad-already-has-usb-host-support-webos-prepped-sd-cards
To the OP, if you edit the first post, you can change the title from there. (it still reads "3d")

[Q] USB keyboard recognized, but no input

I've tried this with three USB keyboard so far: I plug them in to my Note via the OTG cable, the notification bar identifies them as keyboards, but I can't get any application to accept text input from them.
My latest one is a folding Geyes keyboard which is too cool to sell, so I'd really like to get it working. Any ideas on what's going wrong?
Even am facing same problem here, able to connect mouse and USB Drives. but not able to use Keyboards.
Is the same when you unplug and plug again otg cable?

Yep, same.
(And I know my new keyboard works because I'm using it to type this answer on my PC...)
The same problem here, but it works with wireless USB keyboards.
Not Bluetooth, that ones with proprietary dongles. I thought it's some sort of a power problem and the wireless dongles need less power.
So i stripped a USB extension cable, cut the power lines and inserted another usb cable. Like an Y-Adapter used for 2.5" hard drives. This additional plug was put in the Charger and it powered the keyboard. Still no luck.
The cable itself works. Tested it with a mouse, a card-reader and even a 2.5" hard disk and the Note was happy with it.
/me:
Edit: Tried to change the keyboard layout. I need qwertz, not qwerty. Not possible at all. Seems that Android 2.3.6 has no option for that. Hope ICS will do better. Even other keyboard will work, it's absolutely useless for me.
So, no one figuret out why USB keyboards don't work?
My USB Keyboard can't work too
My keyboard is samsung AA-SK0TKBD
solution is easy
You have to restart mobile. Yes, really not practical but that works.
One more thing, the captcha verification during each post is really annoying. Last my answer here.
