Hello,
So after getting some knowledge of the things (thanks Shut_Down :good, I was wondering which is the best combination for this phone?
Right now I am running the stock ROM and kernel.
Will the new official JB upgrade also change kernel or just ROM?
Since people here have already tried different combinations, which combinations have you found that give good, consistent and fast running?
Thanks!

Funny thing is that each of you have a different combination.
Any one actually did testing which combo is better? Or maybe i sould ask, why are you using he combinations you wrote?

Same here. Stock JB LQ4 + ThunderZap 3.5.
So I am guessing I will upgrade to the stock JB ROM (till there will be a JetMod version of JB).
1) Which would be a better kernel set CoCore or ThunderZap?
2) I am right now still running the stock GB ROM.
What would be the right upgrade process kernel update then rom, or rom and then kernel?
The reason I am thinking kernel first is because I still don't have a custom recovery (using the stock brand) so i can't backup or load new roms.
What do you think?
Thanks!

Try both and see what firs you better. And about order, you can install ROM with temp. CWM, but I suggest you use permanent, with custom kernel. So first kernel, than ROM.

Thanks mate! Again you helped.
If I install the stock ROM will I be able to get it in my local language (Hebrew), or do I need to download a specific ROM that is already in my language?

Hm, on this Russian JB there is no Hebrew as I see. So if you want it you should wait for release for your country or any with your language.

OK, Thanks.
Last question, when just changing kernel, do I need to do any wipes / resets (I have read about dalvik cache, factory wipes etc.) ? Or is that just for when installing new ROM's?

Hello,
I am new to the XDAdevelopers forum and don't have much knowledge of rooting or installing customs roms to Android phones.
I currently own the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and just looking around some videos I would love to have some customs rom installed on my phone, such as the new Jelly Bean roms that are out now.
I would love to know on how to root my Galaxy Note if there is a Noob Tutorial for rooting the galaxy note and maybe a Noob Tutorial on how to install Jelly Bean rom that is currently out (any suggestion on which rom would be great)
As I said I am a noob and don't have much knowledge on how to mod your android phones and any help would be greatly appreciated
FYI: Looked around the forums for the while, I couldn't find anything simple enough, I bet there is somewhere in the forum, not sure if I was looking correctly >.<

As long as you are on any safe kernel you can flash any JB rom, no matter if you are on any TW ICS, GB or CM9/10 roms. I am on CM10 right now and flashed it directly on stock LRQ ICS with Speedmod kernel.

Hi cistamlaka, be aware that it is your uncle's phone, not yours. So I would be very careful on rooting and upgrading to a different rom. If he is on a stock 2.3.3, I think (because I had it) there is an update to 2.3.6. It fixes a couple of lags.
If you root him the phone and push some new rom onto it, he might be confused because he will lose the TouchWiz and some applications. Check first with him, what applications (and if some Samsung-made) he uses and if he is okay to change the looks of the phone.
Isnt it right that he has only to download a file and change it to "update.zip" to flash it via stock recovery? A friend of me needs that file, is it the same to use as on sgs plus (i9001)?

You should first install a hydracore kernel on your actual ics (but maybe it is no need), then flash the new jb rom lsz (the one you said) and after you can choose to flash or philz kernel (v 4.88.2) or speedmod kernel (k5-1). Both are goods! To flash all this, you just need a simple program called Odin
If you go in original android development section, you will find all that you need! Just read carefully the main threads, and all will go fine. There are also screenshots attached to the posts, so it will be more clear. Btw if you have some doubts, post here or pm me (sono italiano anche io )

Nice dude
Glad it worked! If I can give you a personal advice:
Install speedmod kernel (actual is k5-1) using odin, download triangle away (actual should be 2.75.. Search it here on xda, by chainfire) install it and use it to remove the yellow alert triangle at the boot time (please read carefully how to use that apk). Now you got a safe kernel, root permissions and very good performance / stability. Ofc if you do that, you "temporarily" will lose the warranty (cuz of the root and the custom kernel). If you don't want, just keep your note as it is now
Regards!

You can't use philz kernel (I'm talking about our galaxy note at least) on any other rom than a Touchwiz based. So unfortunately you can't use it on cm10.1 :/
When I used a cm based, usually I kept the original cm kernel, Btw some of new kernels on xda are interesting! So maybe just try them
For now I'm on ultimate rom, and I'm planning to switch to another one soon (I'm flasholic...)

But dude, that topic is about the galaxy s3 (i9300) and talking about a custom recovery (with few words, the menu from where you install new roms or wipe your note) and not about a kernel. Plus, Dev Crash left our note community some months ago, and his last rom is a jb leak rom Samsung, so I don't recommend you to install it. It's too much old now. Btw, if you wanna some advice about all this story (kernel recovery and other maybe) I advice you to:
First search for some already opened thread, and if you will not any answer to your questions, open a new thread

I've lately upgraded my Samsung S advance with GB 2.3.6 to the JB 4.1.2. I used the stock rom available for India (I9070DDULP8).
all the features are great.... But my phone seems to get stuck every time and stops functioning..I don't even have many applications installed in it that might slow it down... It gets stuck so bad that I have to remove the battery to turn it off and then reboot... I heard the JB ROM available for Russia and Poland would be better.
Would flashing my phone with the Russian or Poland's Stock ROM resolve the issues??? Would it remove the issues with the phone getting stuck and lagging?? And if it might help...then which one is more preferable?? Russian or Poland's??
please help me out..
Actually, the Indian FW is supposed to be the best. Yes, I know what you're thinking, if this is the best, what would the worst be like.

brazilian rom
i use 4.1.2 brazilian carrier TIM + cocore 6, and work fine.
Rom Stock
apparently most stable are those of Germany and Serbia. But more importantly in the kernel. I think the cocore 6.0 with CWM is best for now.

I flashed it via Odin flasher. Well if i install the Kernel and the ROM being used by you... would it remove those irritating lags and would it stop from getting stuck every time?
And please tell me how to install the Kernel and ROM... and where would I find them???
Thanx a lot

Hi, i am noob i need a help for upgrade and root my phone.
I am from Serbia and I have this phone I9070, Gingerbread 2.3.6 I9070XXLK2 and Kernel is 2.6.35.7-1211579
I want o backup my original kernel.
And how to upgrade on JB 4.1.2 + root + custom kernel, I heard that the i9070 works poorly on JB and has bugs and custom kernel can fix that i think
Which is the best version of JB for stability and performance without lag and bugs? Stock or custom?
Which is the best kernel for my I9070?
And how to root my phone?
Thanks

Hello. I am from Serbia too, and there is another user with same name as you. I will send you on private message what to do. Tomorow evening. Just remind me. And you can ask me whatever you want. We have official JB firmware. With CoCore kernel it is good. And i will suggest you to use CM10.1 or Omni ROM.

Yes.. PM system works in this forum..
- You can send it again for confirmation, I'm sure shut_down won't mind
- There is an option to either save or not save your sent messages.. so maybe its set to "don't save"

When I upgrade my android, did I need to calibrate battery, compass, or something? I read somewhere, some user have bad GPS signal in JB. My GPS signal on GB 2.3.6 is excellent. I dont want to lose my perfect GPS
Thanks
