My phone just died last night...battery flat...so this morning i unplug and switch on....but it just gets stuck on the white writing galaxy note boot screen.
i'm runnning 4.0.3 and is rooted. I've wiped and factory reset but still no luck.
I've tried to flash the 4.0.3 again but it gives me a little dead android with a red triangle...
any ideas? getting worried here!!
Were you on any safe kernel bef4 u have factory reset it???
Try to get in download mode(vol down+home key+power key) and open pc odin in laptop.put the tar file of pre rooted gb rom in pda tab.and then connect your phone to pc and flash dat rom.
And if you have nandroid backup of your current rom.then restore it using recovery.

Hello I am new here ;P
Yesterday my phone won't boot anymore so I kinda had a problem. The software I had installed was:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-4-ics-for-galaxy-s-i9000/
I was trying to get my phone back working and looked up some guides online. I tried to use the same guide I used before ( up here) but that won't work. So I kept looking to get my phone back working and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
I picked this one:
I897UCKJ3 Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread
And just put my phone in download mode and installed it.
My phone booted again and I was able to use it but now I have some major issues..
- My home button is not working anymore.
- My back button works like a home button and closes all my apps
- The volume buttons don't work anymore
- When i plug it in my computer or the outlet to power it, it turns off. So I can't take things of it to my computer
Also my 3G isn't working anymore. I can't use it anymore now and I have no idea how to fix this :S IF anyone has a solution that would be great.
Otherwise I will try to bring it to the store..
Use this Odin or Heimdall i897ucKK4 One Click. It will do a full wipe and will get u back to Stock GB 2.3.5

(Your capacitive buttons are messed up because u flashed i9000 firmware on ur i897 Captivate.)

But I can't get into download anymore since my buttons aren't working properly :S
Also I can't seem to charge my phone anymore and the battery is low atm..
U got a Jig ? If not, see my signature link below for a link on where to buy or how to make one.
U could also try to clean out the micro usb port and try a different cable.

Have you tried only using the down volume for recovery?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yep. Good call ko. .... Since he flashed i9000 firmware and it may have included bootloaders (i didn't look at the link that close)...
Download = power button and volume down together.
Recovery = power button and volume up together.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
If I hold the power button + volume down it shows me the At&T logo and then just starts up my phone without getting into download mode! :S
Try the above download method with ur phone powered off if u didn't already. If a no go then try below...
Open Odin or Heimdall (whichever u decide to use), Pull battery, replace it and cover, connect usb end of ur cable to the pc (not in a hub, but preferably a port in the back of the pc), hold both volume up and down together and then insert micro usb into phone. Does ur phone go into Download mode ? If so, proceed.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
My model number is SGH-I897
I'm gonna try what you said now
EDIT:
Okay I did what u said and my phone got into download mode!
I downloaded this file :
I897UCKK4 Odin One Click - Stock, CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe
And Odin found my phone and I pressed Start
It now says SetupConnection.. for about 5 minutes
How long do I have to wait?
If still no progress...U can stop Odin and completely start over as i outlined. Try a different port and/or different cable.

Be sure to have a constant power source and a reliable cable when flashin bootloaders. During the few seconds it takes to flash the boot.bin and sbl.bin, u don't want to loose power or usb/micro usb connection.

Okay I did that and I manged to install that one click i897uckk4.
It installed the new software and all my apps are gone again but still the home button is not working and the back button still closes all my apps.
And for future reference, once u have these bootloaders flashed that r included with the kk4, there should be no need to flash back to stock with bootloaders again. If u ever need to flash stock i897 firmware again, just use one without bootloaders.

Yes. That was a full wipe firmware.
Not sure why ur home button is not working and back button acts like home button ??? May be capacitive hardware issue ??

I have no idea why these buttons are doing so weird but I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem because only when I installed this they stopped working. Are there any other versions I can try like the one I had before or would that totally destroy my phone?
I was trying to follow this tutorial to get it back running again but since I couldn't get into download mode I never did that:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-1-galaxy-s-i9000-install-remics-jb-rom/
Can I just follow that guide now or would that get into trouble with the stuff I just installed?
^
U don't need to flash that stuff in the guide u linked, because that is only for i9000.
There are other firmwares u can try to flash in that thread where the kk4 is located. Just use the ones without bootloaders.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
It now says:
"Firmware upgrade fail!
Try using recovery mode"
When I try to get it into download to install another version without bootloaders o;
Is there any way to just get it back to factory settings? I just want it to work that's all
Use that as a download mode screen.

I installed the one without bootloader but still same problem with the buttons. And what do you mean that I can't follow the tutorial because it's for the I9000. I have a I9000 right?
U said u have an i897. That is a Captivate. I9000 is not the Captivate.

It says i897 on my phone but maybe that's the software I installed because I looked up the Samsung captivate on google and that's not the phone I have. I have a I9000 ( samsung galaxy S )
Maybe that's why the buttons are not working?
Any idea what to install for the i9000?
Btw 6 months ago i installed this:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-4-ics-for-galaxy-s-i9000/
And that worked all the time and that's also for the i9000?
EDIT:
I manged to install Semaphore 2.7.4 for the Samsung Galaxy S and my buttons are working now!
Any idea what the best software is to install for the Galaxy S?
Thanks for all the help so far btw I didn't thought I was able to get it running again

There's isn't a ''Best'' Software per say. It goes to user preference but I highly recommend AOKP or AoCP (Both on Jelly Bean).
Things I did:
1. Want to try out the JellyBAM ROM
2. Installed CWM and rooted the phone
3. Wiped user's data
4. Began flashing the ROM
But then I remembered that I haven't clear the dalvik cache yet and when I look at the ROM installing progress, it wasn't moving so I think something really did went wrong. Then I tried to reboot it into recovery mode again but it won't switch on any longer. Plugged into the pc, nothing, no charging sign, nothing at all! I can't neither go into recovery mode nor the download mode as well...sigh......
Is there still hope for my phone?
how did you install CWM?
If nothing works, try to get it repaired under Warranty, else as a final resort try jig.

Well, the phone was bought some time in the second half of year 2011, so I'm not sure whether or not the warranty still valid though…sigh. As for the jig, I've read that it won't really work all the time?
Warranty normally covers one year, yet check with a samsung dealer.

You may also give more details, such as which rom and kernel you were using, which cwm version, what happened during flashing via Odin, so that experts suggest better.

Phone: GT-I9305 Optus
OS: Stock 4.1.2
Problem: I decided to root my phone, mainly to be able to use Titanium backup, and followed one of the guides here.
Odin did its thing nice and easy, phone rebooted and installed CF-Root just like it was supposed to.
However, on the reboot after install, it asked for my password (Device is encrypted). No big deal, enter password.....didn't work. I've tried multiple times, and it's not accepting my password at all.
Did I just brick my phone? Is there a way to fix this?
Edit: The phone now says I have seven more tries before it erases everything on it. Honestly, I'm not that fussed about having to re-install everything, I just want to be able to use my phone.
Edit 2: Tried going into the debug/reset menu (Vol Up+Home+Power) All I get is stuck at the S3 splash screen, with a VERY tiny red '!' at the top left corner.
Try the process again but don't let odin reboot your phone. After it flashes cf-root, make sure the reboot option is not thicked, press home button +Volume up +power at the same time. You should get straight in to recovery.

hello,
today i set a device unlock code on my phone and installed the new vanir aosp (over the last maclaw cm11 update, so a dirty flash)
now my phone boots, i can enter my sim pincode and then the screen for the device pin shows up but its like it is not registering any input, so i cant unlock my phone.
i tried to reflash maclaws rom with odin but the problem is still there.
i cant go into recovery with the 3 button combo(something i broke a while ago with a wrong flash) so i cant do a full wipe.
also a reboot to recovery with ADB wont work( it wont connect my device.... realy strange)
any help please? THX
Your best bet will be using Odin. You may even be able to get your three button combo working again if you flash novafusion's twrp.

Just as a follow-up:
I've also had this pin unlock issue on their carbon rom recently. It may be an upstream issue. I had to roll back to a previous release of the same rom to disable lockscreen pin before flashing. SIM pin screen works fine.
The only thing that leaves me scratching my head is why this bug only appears after reboot. Pin works fine if you enable it once booted and never switch off.
