[Q] Galaxy S I9000b Black Screen of the death! How to recovery? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I was installing the stock rom yesterday and the process failed when it was almost done at odin and now my SGS is death. I can't turn on downloading mode and the screen is dead. I can't see any logo, vib nor sound. Odin can't find it neither. It is so dead...
Did all I could (after a lot of reading!!) without success. Could anyone gimme a hint?
Galaxy GT-I9000B
I9000BGSMH
Dead as hell!
It was running with Cyanogen... let me know if I can provide more info.
Was trying this tuto and almost complete the quests when black screen of the death got me.

thanks in advance

Did you follow and use the Files in the download as it shows you its for a SCH-I500 Fascinate phone
Which section did you follow no.4?

use a JIG
1 300k resistor 1/4 watt
1 1k resistor 1/4 watt
a mini-USB Type B,
series resistance welded edges and mini usb connector on pins 4 and 5.
jig to connect the phone and presto, enters download mode and you can flash the stock rom.
sorry for my eng

Yeah! I just realized it when it was too late... too much information. easy to get lost.
Yes I went thru section 4.
Now I just tried the USB Jig.. got none response. It might be serious...

Just did it.. nothing happens.
also tried Remove battery, SIM and SD card, Hold Volume down + Power + Home button at the same time...

Oh wow! I don't think I can do it
I disassembled the SGS but the resistors are way too small. Incredible tiny little nothing!! lol
I may send the phone for professional assistance. I know someone that can make it for 50 bucks. I will give it a try.
Thanks everyone for the time and help. :good:
I will let you guys know what happened after get the phone back.

IT IS ALIVE! Jtag RiFFBox for the win!
The guy fixed my SGS with Jtag RIFFBox and he was able to recover the correct firmware for 50 bucks here in Brazil.
Thank you a lot EwOkie for all your attention and help. I will be more careful reading posts but I really can't complain cause I've learned a lot messing around with my SGS for 50 bucks (US). If it was the price that's not bad
Problem is solved! No panic when you can't boot your phone or even turn it on. There's always a helping hand here and Jtag Riffbox for the worse cases. :good::laugh::victory:

Just plug it into the wall outlet and call ATT and they will send the ROM over the air to your phone. They have a "push 1 for this rom" or "push 2 for that rom". It's a cakewalk and only takes seconds.
Read the wiki. It has all been written and outlined for you, my young padawan....
A Better Way
Put the phone in a tub of water. Reach in and turn it on. Make sure the water is plenty Hot. Your new rom will appear with the smoke jeannie.

[Help] Do I have a beautifull brick?

I have a HTC Tattoo,I flashed a SPL(seems SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip) which belongs to HTC Magic by mistake today,,(I just took a wrong sdcard, which I used in my Magic),then the Tattoo became a brick.
when i turned on the Tattoo by power button,it didn't respond any more ,the screen was not lightened too.
I have made a golcard before,Anyone could tell me how to fix it?
I could not open the Tattoo,
when I Pressed power+home buttons, no image comes up,no recovery mode shown;
when I Pressed power+return buttons, fastboot mode did not show too...
Thanks in advanced.
Removed on mod request...
BTW: Yes your phone is bricked, and i don't think it can be fixed :-(

Sorry, but a phone which is not reacting at all is really a bad starting point..
Press volume down (hold) and press the power button..if you have luck you'll come into HBOOT (or fastboot)...if it turns on, then thank the lord
anyways, connect it to usb and DON'T touch the phone!
then download the original click ROM (i assume your German according to your nickname): http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Click/RUU_Click_HTC_WWE_1.67.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
start it and then hope that it can flash your phone...
if the setup exits with error 131 (bad customer code) then try the following ROM: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Click/RUU_Click_Vodafone_UK_1.67.161.18_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
Good luck, that's all that can be done...you could send your phone back to HTC...since it doesn't even turn on I don't think they can determine that it is rooted
Just don't tell then the truth (say that your mother threw it accidentally from the kitchen table and that it doesn't turn on anymore).
Good luck

and can u put this explanation in ur Q & A so it would help any one else in the future with the same kinda problem
Honestly? I don't think this problem will occur so often
But I'll add it as soon as possible...
Did it work?
The only way I could advice you on getting it fixed is by contacting HTC and explaining the issue and then asking if their is anyway of them fixing it... they will have all the flashing tools that don't require the phone to be operational.
They might ask for a fee for it doing but really it's your only option right now
Good luck!
No, in Germany this operation would be covered by the warranty (if you tell them the "right" lie) Did this myself with a Tattoo of a friend of mine...

Not entirely sure but can you get into the 3 button download mode? (Guide in general section). Also posting in the dev section will not help as that section is for developers not for questions about phone problems.

I seem to be getting that impression too. on a worse case with any of my HTC phones i ever had i could do something to get it working. and i have had some **** ups happen. this was a stupid mistake and im sure on a forum where we have oms posted for both i cant be the first person to click the wrong one as im getting the idea they are simular but hey its a brick now. so carphonewarehouse i go. and just hope they cant switch it on and see the at&t screen lmao.
I had a similar result a couple of weeks back after trying to flash hardcore's speedmod kernel CWM version in Odin - not very sensible...
Couldn't get into download mode at all. After panicking for a couple of hours, I removed the battery for 2 hours, reinserted it and all was good - i.e., got download mode back.
Worth a try, you're not going to make it any worse. Hopefully... Good luck.

[Q] Note N7000 ultra-superbricked

Hello everybody. You're my last hope!
Here's my situation: I bought a second hand Note a year back, and it's suddenly done a hard brick on me. So hard my computer can't even see it when I use the USB data cable.
I'd rooted it with CWM, flashed a custom JB ROM, and had been using Link2SD to shift some non-essential apps to a secondary partition and free up some system space. Although all the above came with their hiccups, I'd been using the phone without a hitch for about a week when "it" happened.
Today I pick it up and it has the "Galaxy Note N7000" welcome screen, which disappears when I hold down the power button. After that, nothing. Nothing from the power button, nothing from the power button+menu button+volume up. Nothing when I replace the battery with my fully charged spare. Nothing when I plug it in to charge, nothing when I connect it to the PC. No warning, nothing. Out of the blue, just like that.
After a bit of online rummaging I think I need a JTAG fix, something like "Samsung Galaxy Note - JTAG Brick Repair Service (Debricking/Unbrick/Brick FIX)" by MobileTechVideos on Youtube (I'd paste a link, but this site). Problem is, I'm all the way out here in Turkey. What would you suggest?
Thank you in advance.
PS: I'm struck by how all this makes you appreciate the simpler things in life. Like your father-in-law's little old beat-up Nokia that never skipped a beat all these years and is now saving your life. Is it really so hard to make a phone that is guaranteed to boot no matter what?

I've tried vol down and I'm still getting nothing. I tried it with my USB cable plugged into my PC, and once I got a notification that it tried and failed to find a device driver for the "Unknown device".

Firstly, my PC only saw the device ONCE. I haven't been able to get it to happen again. Secondly, even if I do download a "Samsung N7000 driver" or whatnot, it's no good if the PC can't see that I've plugged in an N7000. "Unknown device"???
Reports of my stupidity have been greatly exaggerated.
Some maturity please
Goodness you guys are in a real snark aren't you?
Look, the whole point of this forum is that I don't know something that you do. I ask the question, and anybody who's feeling helpful today tells me what I need to know.
But when somebody, as in my case, clearly isn't aware of, say, a separate download mode that is accessed by pressing the vol down key, all they get is sarcasm and snobbery. The person asking for help gets treated like an idiot, and this gets "thanked" for "putting the noob in his place". Everybody's so busy giving themselves an ego massage they forget to come up with any actual solutions.
I didn't come here for that.

Who started the sarcasm? The person who wanted help switched to arrogancy when a really helping member showed the correct way.
And: you install custom roms on your device without even trying to read and learn as a necessary preparation. But demanding help without listening.
As you said: we didn't come here for that too.
You might reconsider and start reading the standard tutorials here how to root etc. Most members did this. The sort of "Noob" and "so I do not need to read myself" are luckily rare.
OK calling a truce here

I'm sorry if that came across as arrogant. Not being aware of a vol down download mode, I thought it was the other person who hadn't bothered to read up, and that was my way of keeping it light instead of flaming the person. Turned out the person who hadn't read carefully enough was me, and I apologised for it, if you remember.
Actually, I have read the standard tutorials about how to root and followed the instructions very closely. I also am not the kind of person who says "I do not need to read myself", I merely misread, as I said about ten times already. I simply never needed the download mode while rooting my phone, and missed the distinction between download mode and recovery mode. Strange, I know, but there it is.
I am not demanding help without listening. What I am demanding is a little patience and politeness. Can you say that you have added anything to the conversation except sarcasm and put-downs?

if you read so many tutorials and following them so closely but missed download mode: maybe better stop flashing.

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. "If you haven't worked that out by now you must be an idiot." I didn't come here for that.

You are insulting very valuable and esteemed members of this forum who are rendering selfless service with their immense knowledge.
Edit: It's a pity that you didn't understand their kindness and politeness.

So objecting to insults is... an insult?

I am very thankful of the assistance given, and I have apologised whenever I have been at fault. But ThaiDai basically called me an idiot (hence the double quotes), and all I am saying is that snide insults are never, ever justified. Or are you saying they are, and I have no right to object?
Sorry for poisoning this thread...
You know what, I've had enough of this argument. More fool me for trying to talk down noob haters when all I wanted was a solution to my problem.
Thank you to Spydertracks for being so patient with me to start with, and sorry for not reading more carefully. Thank you to rangercaptain for the recommendation. If anybody else has anything to add I'd be very grateful.

[Q] Captivate gone off , bricked , dead ?

Problem:
Captivate is bricked. It wont boot , it doesnt charge , except it gets heated thats all . Nothing works.
Since no boot , system / ODIN doesnt recognize
its just like a paper weight. I have tried in some shops here , no one knows what is the problem. !
any help will be lovely !
even the JIG doesnt work...

yes ...i have seen that ... The mod is kind of not available here ..and also i am not very good in electronic !
- thread is in wrong section, nothing to do with Android development
- no information on how this happened and I can't find my crystal ball
- the only option you have is to try blind flash, screen driver may be the problem
- if bootloaders are messed up, then you have no chance to fix the issue at home
if the jig doesn't work, i think it's only riffbox that can save your phone
