Hello everybody. You're my last hope!
Here's my situation: I bought a second hand Note a year back, and it's suddenly done a hard brick on me. So hard my computer can't even see it when I use the USB data cable.
I'd rooted it with CWM, flashed a custom JB ROM, and had been using Link2SD to shift some non-essential apps to a secondary partition and free up some system space. Although all the above came with their hiccups, I'd been using the phone without a hitch for about a week when "it" happened.
Today I pick it up and it has the "Galaxy Note N7000" welcome screen, which disappears when I hold down the power button. After that, nothing. Nothing from the power button, nothing from the power button+menu button+volume up. Nothing when I replace the battery with my fully charged spare. Nothing when I plug it in to charge, nothing when I connect it to the PC. No warning, nothing. Out of the blue, just like that.
After a bit of online rummaging I think I need a JTAG fix, something like "Samsung Galaxy Note - JTAG Brick Repair Service (Debricking/Unbrick/Brick FIX)" by MobileTechVideos on Youtube (I'd paste a link, but this site). Problem is, I'm all the way out here in Turkey. What would you suggest?
Thank you in advance.
PS: I'm struck by how all this makes you appreciate the simpler things in life. Like your father-in-law's little old beat-up Nokia that never skipped a beat all these years and is now saving your life. Is it really so hard to make a phone that is guaranteed to boot no matter what?

When I plug my USB cable into the device, LITERALLY nothing happens. No sound, no vibration, nothing on the screen nothing. My computer doesn't know I've plugged anything in, not even on Device Manager.
Forget about connecting to the PC, can you enter download mode (Vol down, home and power)?

The link you listed is very reliable JTAG service and costs $50 US. I would use DHL to ship it.
If thats not an option, you can buy a replacement mainboard. I would use www.tvc-mall.com in Hong Kong.

Sorry for not reading more carefully, and for not realising the difference between recovery and download mode.
I've tried vol down and I'm still getting nothing. I tried it with my USB cable plugged into my PC, and once I got a notification that it tried and failed to find a device driver for the "Unknown device".

Firstly, my PC only saw the device ONCE. I haven't been able to get it to happen again. Secondly, even if I do download a "Samsung N7000 driver" or whatnot, it's no good if the PC can't see that I've plugged in an N7000. "Unknown device"???
Reports of my stupidity have been greatly exaggerated.
Some maturity please
Goodness you guys are in a real snark aren't you?
Look, the whole point of this forum is that I don't know something that you do. I ask the question, and anybody who's feeling helpful today tells me what I need to know.
But when somebody, as in my case, clearly isn't aware of, say, a separate download mode that is accessed by pressing the vol down key, all they get is sarcasm and snobbery. The person asking for help gets treated like an idiot, and this gets "thanked" for "putting the noob in his place". Everybody's so busy giving themselves an ego massage they forget to come up with any actual solutions.
I didn't come here for that.

Who started the sarcasm? The person who wanted help switched to arrogancy when a really helping member showed the correct way.
And: you install custom roms on your device without even trying to read and learn as a necessary preparation. But demanding help without listening.
As you said: we didn't come here for that too.
You might reconsider and start reading the standard tutorials here how to root etc. Most members did this. The sort of "Noob" and "so I do not need to read myself" are luckily rare.
OK calling a truce here

I'm sorry if that came across as arrogant. Not being aware of a vol down download mode, I thought it was the other person who hadn't bothered to read up, and that was my way of keeping it light instead of flaming the person. Turned out the person who hadn't read carefully enough was me, and I apologised for it, if you remember.
Actually, I have read the standard tutorials about how to root and followed the instructions very closely. I also am not the kind of person who says "I do not need to read myself", I merely misread, as I said about ten times already. I simply never needed the download mode while rooting my phone, and missed the distinction between download mode and recovery mode. Strange, I know, but there it is.
I am not demanding help without listening. What I am demanding is a little patience and politeness. Can you say that you have added anything to the conversation except sarcasm and put-downs?

if you read so many tutorials and following them so closely but missed download mode: maybe better stop flashing.

Here's a good list for you:
1. Find out how to connect and explore your device's file structure.
2. Find out what a "cab" file is.
3. Learn to install/uninstall cab files.
4. Browse phone settings.
5. Read FAQ sections and understand what is a ROM, what are the dangers associated with "flashing". Decide if you're ready for it or not.
6. Drop in the "development and hacking" forum, see if there are any programs you find useful. Try them out, you'll learn a lot by installing/using/uninstalling stuff.
Thanks all of you, I was really few guides but im still confused. Im currently using t-mobile with its Total Internet. And everything is working. Wow! What a noob. (and I'm not saying that to insult). You have a long way to go before you ask those kinds of questions. It's like my 8 year old asking about the big bang theroy. I can answer, but he won't understand.
I'm gonna say the same thing as eveybody else, READ as much as you can before asking a bunch of questions. You won't understand the answers you get untill you do.
One more tip. Part of my job is training people how to use diagnostic equipment. I always leave them with a 4 word rule to continue learning the equipment after the training. And that is..... Push The Damn Buttons.

This subject is all covered extremely thoroughly. Do yourself a favor man and go to the Kaiser WIKI here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser . If you dont find an answer there, then there is NO fix for you. We call this error the ID-10T error and its unfortunately unrecoverable, and thusly, causes irreversible damage....... especially to your reputation here at XDA-Developers
P.S.
Research the HARDSPL issue first You cant flash roms without first modding your bootloader as it prevents you from installing non-official ROMS........
hye,im just flashing my tab yesterday with overcome rom.then i started with odin after it finished odin shows FAILED! then my phone turned off automatically leave the screen blanked.now i can't do anything to the phone even if want to enter the downloading mode.there is nothing i can do and just leave the screen blank.is there any help for me?i'm seriously pissed off.please help me.
sorry but 50 viewers and still no help?
Did you do a backup beforehand? If so, restore it. If not, i would get another Rom and try again.
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA Premium App
no i didnt have any backup.what do u mean by getting another rom?im stuck with the blank screen and can't do nothing now.
Try shuttig it off, charging the battery, put in download mode (even if you only see a black screen some people have reported they can flash) and install your stock or another rom. If this doesn't work, you're screwed...
If you didn't check and see if you had locked bootloaders then this may have caused the fail in ODIN...

There is plenty of help if you look for it. People tend to get sick of repeating themselves so its best to read the topics that have already been created on this exact issue.
Using search function and searching topic titles for "bricked" will give you plenty of help.

listen postfatal I don't know what kind of help have you offered. Since the only thing you did is to mock. If you think I should've done a search first then just tell me. There's no need to write a whole godamn essay. Use that kind of attitude and see how fast you can last in a job.
Btw, thanks to all those who did suggest something and refrained from sarcasm. I've figured out what happened and the phone is back up and running.

So how was it fixed? I am sure it would be useful to someone else.

The phone was just acting weird. I had to press the power button + volume down for 20 seconds to get back into recovery. It has never happened before.

Was your home and back button flashing when you tried to do power and volume down at first? First time I saw that I thought something was def broke and maybe getting a phone with a non removable battery was a bad idea but than read on here just keep pressing and it will go to bootloader. Catastrophe avoided!

Thanks for nothing but I don't think anything you said or I said was helpful

That is the problem. You want to do things that you don't fully understand. Anytime you try to flash something there is a chance it will brick a device, no matter how many others haven't had that problem.
Read up on it and if you feel comfortable then do it.
And it is "know not no"

That's what i meant. Several experienced users hard bricked their phones. You no what I mean?
know verb (used with object), knew, known, know·ing.
1. to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty: I know the situation fully.
2. to have established or fixed in the mind or memory: to know a poem by heart; Do you know the way to the park from here?
3. to be cognizant or aware of: I know it.
4. be acquainted with (a thing, place, person, etc.), as by sight, experience, or report: to know the mayor.
5. to understand from experience or attainment (usually followed by how before an infinitive): to know how to make gingerbread.
no
1. (a negative used to express dissent, denial, or refusal, as in response to a question or request)
2. (used to emphasize or introduce a negative statement): Not a single person came to the party, no, not a one.
3. not in any degree or manner; not at all (used with a comparative): He is no better.
4. not a (used before an adjective to convey the opposite of the adjective's meaning): His recovery was no small miracle.

First go here http://www.grammar-monster.com/easily_confused/than_then.htm THEN go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2740247
and read the entire thread for your own sake. Open the app then click install CWM. If it was successful then you should have a custom recovery.

How about this... since you seem to be unable to read and search and learn for yourself, just box up your phone, send it to someone like Gotroot, Koush, or any of the other devs and ask them to do it for you...
OR.... you could bop over to the development section and freaking READ FOR YOURSELF and find out what is available.....

Well I hit my 8 thanks for the day, but thank you. I couldn't remember that name for the life of me...guess it's time to watch it on my free netflix. Just another reason the Flex was a great buy.
