I just now did it this second. It's really easy, actually. The wire trick seems scary, but it was harmless. Just download the super all in one tool that says it's noob proof. Do exactly what that tells you to and you will get HTC dev unlock. Then go to the Index sticky in the development thread and do the s-off trick, it comes with step by step instructions. Don't be scurred.
It seems scary what do I use for wire trick

I personally used an old ethernet cable, which I cut the ends off of and once inside you get two different colored strands. Take one strand of one color on each side, and shave off the insulation until you get the copper metal pieces, twist them together and voila.

Hey guys,
I bought the phone today, used just for a week 4 $200,
At&t white version, and im loving it, guy included a hard case white snap on cover, green & black hard plastic one, and a blue otterbox defender series!
So any tip or trick or hack let me know!
Cheers!
I thought about getting the white one, good choice. Welcome!

The white version is pretty sharp, I wished I had the white version.
Tip 1
If you're planning on staying with S-On, just know you'll have to do things differently than those with S-Off.
Tip 2
Don't try and do S-Off until you've read how the procedure is done.
I kinda went at everything blind without reading, which caused me a few problems along the way. I was very fortunate to have the good people of this forum come to my rescue, I'm finally enjoying my HTC Vivid. Happy flashing!
yeah...read, read, and READ lol, but i suggest doing s off once youve read a lot about it and are comfortable...its a lot easier then it sounds-i finally got the guts to do it the other day...it was surprisingly easy and i got it first try...
i was so afraid of doing it cause you have to pretty much short out the phone...but i had already disassembled the phone to change the capacitive button colors to green so i figured if i could do that then i could do s-off
How can you get that price? I looked on ebay but only 250$++

Look on Craigslist.
There are several in my area Craigslist going for $175. I was able to trade my Evo Shift straight up for the HTC Vivid to someone from Craigslist, Good Luck!

OK... As much as I love my Vivid is going towards my wife as of today. I somehow ended up in a AT$T store today and used up my friend's upgrade that he didn't need, and now I'm rocking a brand new HTC one X, which I really love so far. I'm a little worried about the battery life, but so far isn't bad at all. As much as I wanted to go for the galaxy s3, just didn't cut it for me... To be honest I mostly fell for the one x's sexyness ...

If this is the "new" HTC, I'm thoroughly impressed so far. The phone itself is top notch, the unlock actually allows us to flash every part of the phone (unlike on the EVO 4G LTE), and now their follow through with source code has been timely. I for one am very happy of their change of direction.

That was fast! Maybe a new kernel will convince me to root now. The phone is so sweet stock, compared to my OG Evo. I just need to squeeze more battery life out of this thing. A new custom kernel will definitely help that. Things should get exciting soon!

Now if they'd release the kernel source for any one of the 1.29.xxx.12 OTA's I could figure out wtf they did to fix the damn home/back button sensitivity.
Now I can finally get to work!
So I just got my phone back from repair for a broken screen. The repair totaled 189.99. I was however quite surprised that they seemed to replace the entire outer body of the phone. The back was scratched and the speaker bezels had a few nicks in them. All was replaced and my phone now actually has the magical zero gap shiz they talk about. I know its still my phone cause the serial is the same and it came back with ViperRom still on it. Just wanted to share my experience.

Just wonder if they put a new shell on it because they messed it up taking the old one off? Good deal though, you got your screen fixed and new shell.

Besides aesthetics, are there any differences between the models?
Im coming from the original epic 4g so this is a super upgrade lol.
Ive seen some of the guides and am kinda confused....i want to root my phone and take stuff like facebook off, but i really dont understand how to go about it with the bootloader.
Never had to worry about that with my epic, so im pretty ignnorant. Do i HAVE to unlock bootloader? And if i do, are there
any drawbacks to using htcdev to do it?
Im still getting used to the forum layoit....not sure ive seen all relevant info because theres just so much with 2 development pages lol dont really know where i should be looking...

The two development sections are mainly for rom development, so you won't find what you need there. You should find the answers to most of your questions in Q&A or General

Woot! I came from the Epic as well. Welcome to the One. In about 2 weeks, if you still have the Epic, pick it up. I guarantee your first thought will be "how did I ever get by with such a small device?" Lol. I've been rooted since it was available and the only drawback to dev unlock is the wiping process.
This thing isn't quite as impossible to brick as the Epic but its close. RUU can save most anything but I wouldn't experiment with trying to brick it
I'd give Sense 5 ROMs a try first and see how you like it. If that's not for you then you've got similar ROMs the Epic had. And CM10.2 is extremely stable over here. We're hoping for a 4.3 Sense 5 leak/OTA soon as well. Otherwise follow the guides and you should be good.
And I don't believe there are differences besides appearance.

I'm a week out from my upgrade, and I was originally in the black camp. I'm definitely getting the blue. Its such a good looking phone. Also, I'm holding out hope that the blue might be a little tougher finish than the black, and I swear it feels different in the hand, a little more.. rough? but I could just be going crazy.

I ordered my Blue one from bestbuy.com on the 15th and it still hasn't shipped :\
Contacted customer support and they said its been backordered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Is it really that popular or am I getting screwed over somehow?

Its a small thing, but after having issues with 2 Evo 3D I swore off HTC. I've had 7 devices since then with no issues. Decided the M8 was great and gave HTC another try. Guess this is what I get.
I know other devices have issues as well. For $600+ I would figure that proper glue could be used.
Last HTC device.
