So as I am don't know how to make a rom, and there are some decent roms for other devices.... i decided to port a rom to our SGSA!!
Before i start with porting this rom i have some queries:
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008 <---- using this guide can i port a rom for NEXUS S to SGSA?
2.do i have to take permissions from the people who made the original roms?
3.& as the guide says we need a base rom and a port rom, how do I extract a base rom as they are in md5 format!!
I would appreciate it if some one helped me out as I am keen on porting some roms to our devices

For 3. one way is to make backup with CWM and then use Android kitchen. On CWM you will get file system.ext4.tar.a, delete that ".a" and put it in kitchen folder. Just find tutorial how to use Kitchen. But I think it is not that simple as you might thing. BTW I never ported any ROM, so my help is not too relevant.
what if i use a existent custom rom?
Ports are generally to be done on cm. You cannot port roms from cm to stock
I do not respond to tech support via PM
I'm also making a ROM for SGSA and if I find it too difficult then porting one will be my second option....
Yes you need Permission from the original developer before porting....

No.. I'm waiting for 18 Feb... as Samsung Ukraine posted that a new firmware would be released..... then I will start my work... if I find it too difficult then I will go for plan B... that is "Porting a ROM"....
And I also have a doubt...
Custom ROMs are specifically made a for a particular phone right? So shouldn't the hardware and specs of that phone and our phone be similar? I mean will a port of S3 ROM work on SGSA??
PS: that guide you are follwing... I already bookmarked it 2 weeks back

I really wish you can, but (maybe I'm wrong, I'm not God) porting to SGSA right now without a clean ROM like CM is impossible. In other words, we do not have the base rom.

Yes I think you can open a new Thread on the Dev section.. but be sure to add the word "Port" on the title...
And as far as I know, getting a Bootloop should be a "common" or an obvious thing as the ROM you are porting isn't originally made for our device.. some app or some other ROM file(s) must be causing it...

At the moment I do not use a rom derived from CyanogenMod.
Now I use the Mushrom W4 based on 2.3.5.
I tried the 7.1-cooper-KANG CyanogenMod-2.3.7 RC1 Android by Grif but did not have the sim application toolkit.
I just wanted to know if there is a possibility of being able to implement the ROM or as a separate application or acting on the root.
If this possibility exists I wanted to have some instructions on how to do.
I would be happy even know where to find the necessary files.
I thank you for the reply and hope you can help me.

Download the ROM. Extract the zip file. The base, i guess is the indian gingerbread. Download it for galaxy mini. Extract that too. Or take a 2.3.6 based custom ROM (a stock based one, not cm7 or miui) replace the app, framework, and media folder with the ones in the ACE's ROM. Should boot.

But before starting with Kernel v3, I'd suggest be comfortable with those commands and compile existing 2.6.35 kernels without modifications and later with modifications. In that way, you could get more in touch with Kernel development.

This script comes with instructions for each step, It is the MIUI auto-porter modified for general use with CM10 based roms.
It will say a bunch of stuff about MIUI on the splash-screen at the start, Ignore it.
Any Rom that uses CM10 as a base can be ported to this device using this script.
Download: Auto-porter
I know It's not a new rom update but I figured you folks would like it better, to test it out go to AvatarRoms site or some other CM10 based rom and try your hand at porting!
Some roms will have TW framework or other things like this and that must be taken care of manually, so for more complex ports you will need a good understanding of how to port and diff and xml editing and so on; but for very basic things or to create a quick port to assess what kind of potential work would need to be done, how compatible your device is with a base; this is a good place to start.

Sometimes the foreign rom is just not compatible as a base, you will see results as you experiment and find which phones are most 'similar' to yours
If anyone has successfully ported a rom with auto-porter that boots and is somewhat functional or functional, then please post and share the details here. I personally do not know how to port a rom, or make a rom etc., But I am willing to learn how to use the auto-porter in this thread if someone is willing to point me in the right direction. Like which base to use, and what modifications need to be done and so on...

First of all, this is NOT a request to developers to leave everything and start making AOSP ROMs. I am just curious why we have almost none or at least not fully functioning AOSP ROMs. The ones I tried, SpaceCaker's AOSP GB and the 2 AOSP ROMs from Maclaw, were great. Don't get me wrong, I like the CyanogenMod ROMs, just curious why AOSP gets overlooked. Are they harder to build than other ROMs or are people really not into them? Appreciate any input.
Also, if anyone knows of any AOSP builds besides the three mentioned (SpaceCaker's AOSP Gingerbread, Maclaw's AOSP ICS and Jellybean), I would be grateful if you would share them. Cheers!
I agree with you...there aren't much aosp ROM for our Ace although there are the best ROM that works smoother...but on the other hand there has much less function compared to CMs ROM...so maybe people want CM more..
What do you want more? I mean we have one aosp for gb, ics and jb.
If a developer would make another aosp rom, it would be more or less the same rom.

It is not a matter of "want". As I stated in my thread, this is not a request. I was just being curious, to be honest. Maybe, I was not clear. I also meant that AOSP ROMs are not used as base ROMs. Maybe, CM is more favorable towards that. Anyway, thanks for the input, valid point you made,

when i click it in my pc idm opens and we can download it
i would upload it if olddroid allows me i will ask to tem about this matter
it is because aosp is based purely on armv7+ devices and not armv6
and cm is adapted to support ore types of sockets and such
wich is why its easier to build cm then aosp

Thanks a lot! That was the answer I was looking for. Makes sense why we have so little AOSP then. And btw, your GB AOSP is one
of my favorite ROMs. Cheers!
If someone needs OldDroid AOSP ICS RC1, PM me.
