So everyday I get off work, I try to install cm10 on my wife's nook hd+ but I just can't seem to do it, I bought a class 4 32gb sandisk from staples since people had have success with it, but anyways I got windows 7 and did all the steps and got adb working with the nook and rooted it just fine got googleplay working and so forth, but now trying to install cm10...is mission impossible so i use win32diskmanager to write the image of cwm or to make my life simpler put the one by bokbokan that suppose to install automatic, none of them work for bokbokan it doesnt even boot on the sd card, for the other method by verygreen cwm starts when cold boot but it has a problem partition the sd card so it goes no further, and thats where i been stuck, i dont know what i am doing wrong, is it win32diskmanager? every time i install the image it shrinks my sd card size to 190ish mb is this correct? anyways any help would be great

How do you know the card has a problem partitioning the sd card. Does it give you an error message? You say it goes no further. What are you expecting it to do?
And the card being a small size is normal.
I guess I don't understand what you are asking.

got it working, followed the tips of another poster that you have to reinstall the drivers when you are in cmw to make adb work and then i used that to install cm10, but another question now that i have cm10 can i just sideload apps by copying and pasting to memory or do i have to flash install them? since i noticed not even gapps is installed

You go get gapps from goo.im using you cm10 browser and select jb-20121011 version and download to your sd . Then boot to cwm and flash it. Reboot to cm10 and register play store and all your apps are there.

As an original Nook Color owner from its first day availability, I am now ready to make the leap to the HD+. My primary reason for this is the 8.9 inch screen which emulates "trade paperback" size which has always been my reading goal along with enhanced video.
I have put my NC through numerous iterations over the last two years plus and finally did a full conversion to Android 4.1 a few months ago bidding a permanent farewell to any remaining vestige of the BN software. As the final remaining issue for me was "reading in store" which I no longer need, it was not a difficult decision.
In perusing this forum, I appear to have run afoul of trying to determine if there is a currently viable track for complete conversion of the HD+ eMMc as I simply do not need or want the BN interface. I know full well there are rooted, sdcard, and "hybrid" variations well explained in this forum but simply cannot find or continue to overlook any mention/instruction for full internal conversion as an option.
Am I simply overlooking that info or are we not yet there? If that goal has not yet been obtained, what would be my closest non sdcard option?
I have nothing but accolades and praise for those providing us with the fruits of their efforts. My multiple and varied experiences with my NC provided a truly fascinating experinece and learning curve starting with basic rooting up through several dual boot variations and now in eMMc Jelly Bean and all of its remarkably functional glory! It is clearly continuing with the HD and the "+" and I wish to express my deepest thanks for those continuing efforts in advance.
Any reasoned advice, suggestions, and/or direction would be appreciated.
As yet there is no full replacement of the emmc. The boot loader lock that even checks system makes it very hard.

I too came from the Nook Color and have enjoyed the versatility of that device. Unfortunately B&N has locked down this device to make it more difficult to modify it. Your only two choices now is to modify stock with my CWM zips or opt for running CM10/CM10.1 from SD. You can get my CWM zips from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.

Get the HD+ and put cm10 via sdcard on it. If you use the right sdcsard (class 4? someone will correct me if I'm wrong) and dont look back. I came from the nook color 10.1 emmc myself. I know how soul crushing it was on there. Lag, reboots, lag, poor display, lag. Did I mention lag? I'd like an emmc too, but seriously you won't notice any difference. Its an amazing tablet with cm10 on it.

I have also had the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet.. the Nook HD/HD+ are awesome. I have always choose to ditch the stock B&N expereince. Currently booting CM10.1 from mircoSD on my NookHD, thanks to some awesome work by others, and its honestly great! maybe a few tiny little lags every now and then, but nothing close to a deal breaker. And its still early... so it can only get better from here. Going HD or HD+, you won't be dissapointed.
Actually this is strange that we dont have still bootloader lock hack. All tech things that i seen on xda forum are ulocked. And now some BN can lock it
I want help but i dont have knowledge for this stage. And with other words i need it too (run custom rom from emmc)..

Thanks to all for your comments, updates, and suggestions. I opted to take the "easy way out" this time around and d/l n2a's $19.99 version for the HD+ and installed it on a 32 GB card. Oddly enough, could not get it to run on a new Sandisk Class 10 but it ran on an older class 4 or 6 card that I had used for converted film storage with my NC. Any idea why that happened?
BTW, when formatting a card for the HD+ should we use FAT32 or NTSC?
It is great to have a full JB interface back!
Not at all enamored of the current BN interface which I hope now to leave alone and eventually replace when full eMMc access is achieved. If JB could be made "ready for prime time" on the NC, then I am sure that it is just a matter of time until one of you has a full blown "Eureka" moment and shows the way to a full and total conversion of the HD+.
Will keep you all up-to-date regarding my experiences with the N2A setup.

Actually i need run it internally because i have 12 Nook HD+ and clients who use these just may pull out SD (maybe steal SD too). All restrictions which one i made on ROm for user side is not working anymore.
Seems i need directly constact with Verygreen.

Not sure what the above direction has to do with which format (FAT32/NTSC) is best for SDcard use in the HD+ for either simple storage or alternate OS.

This quote at this thread is about SD card formating:
For first time install only (you will need 4G or bigger sdcard, smaller ones are not supported and not tested):
gunzip cwm image and write it to your sdcard (entire sdcard not just one partition of it), use either dd on Linux/MacOS or Win32 Image Writer for those impaired by Windows.

And when you follow this guide step by step, you dont need worry about formating your SD to wrong format.

Not all cards are created equal. The recommended card for running a ROM is SanDisk class 4. Others may or may not work well.
And it does not matter what format you had on the card originally before you burned the image to the card. It gets overwritten.
But for using an SD with stock, the card should be formatted Fat32 or ExFat. NTSC does not work.

:crying: My brain hurts.
I'm trying to figure out how to install CM10 onto an SD card so I can dual boot my nook HD, but each time I read the instructions I get lost in more and more threads to the extent I'm totally and utterly confused.
In the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968 is
CM10 sdcard Installer (For CM10.1 installation additional step in the instructions should be followed)
Due to many problems/issues encountered by users with regards to adb and sdcard not working in Windows, I have combined the two files below and written a short script to automate the installation process. Just insert the sdcard to your device and it will be installed with CM10 automatically. No user intervention is needed.
Instructions
Download the compressed image file cm10-sdcard-installer.img. Posted: 12/28
Unpack and write the image to your sdcard. For more info on how to do it, see this post.
(optional) To install CM10.1 instead of CM10, replace 'CM-10-hummingbird.zip' of the SD card boot folder with any CM10.1 image file you can download here in this page (you need to rename the file exactly as above).
Insert into the device and boot (cold)/reboot (warm).
Wait for it to finish installation.
Enjoy your HD with CM10 (CM10.1)

The only advantage to registering a new nook is it starts your warranty. But since this is used from a pawn shop, it is probably registered to someone else and you can't register it anyway.

I have tried like 3 times and every time nothing happens. I put the gapps and a file named "cm-10-20130511-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-sdcard" onto and sd card. Reboot it into recovery, delete system files, install those two etc, and it always is still cyanogen 10.2 every single time. I want cyanogenmod 10 so that I will be able to play with wii remotes and bluetooth and stuff and yeah. That was one of the main reasons I wanted my nook. If there are any other ways to do that, that would be great as well. And then two more things, when I reinstall and delete system files, all the stuff ont he internal memory are still there and I don't know if it is supposed to be like that? And then another problem with my nook is that sometimes when I try to unlock it the screen just blinks and won't open no matter what and I just have to reboot. And lastly, when I am charging the nook it always jsut keeps blinking no matter what I try. If you could respond asap that would be great, I kinda need it for school and don't feel like installing everything if it won't be permanent. Thanks a lot!
TLDR; I have a lot of issues with my nook!
Yes, you have a lot of questions in that post. First, explain a little better what you are running. That CM10 zip is for an SD install and I am betting you are running CM10.2 on internal memory.
And wiping with CWM usually does not delete media files from internal memory.
And the unlock screen problem is probably the magnet in you cover. Open the cover twice to get around it.
Don't know the problem about charging/blinking.

All I remember is that what I installed the cm 10.2 with is 2 zip files from an sd card, and did the same as I did when I tried 10. However, when I did 10.1 (What i weas running before all of this) I installed through a bootable sd card with zip files. And how do I get rid of stuff on internal? Do i need to? Thanks for all the other answers too. And is the file name I even sent you cm 10? Just want to make sure so I am not being stupid. Also the stuff on my sd card is still all the same I just used a different external sd card for the install. (Which I would rather do if possible)
You probably installed CM10.1 and CM10.2 to internal memory. That is why that one marked sdcard will not work. I don't think there are any CM10 zips that will work on internal memory. They are all for SD. (You can tell because the say 'sdcard' in the name.) Why is it you think you need CM10? If you want it you must install it on SD. There is a thread for it in the dev section. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35087686
If you want to wipe the media files off of internal with CWM, go to mounts and storage and choose 'format data and datamedia'. That will clear the media files. But you do not need to do that unless you are worried others will see it. It makes no difference to installing things.

Ok, is the emmc one the one that I can install on the internal memory? And i dont get it because it says to use the same install method for the one that I did and you say that that install message is wrong. And then, can I still have stuff on my sd card while it has the install on it or does it have to just be for the install. And then for gapps and cwm do I have to install those again? sorry for my stupidity
Yes both the SD install and the emmc install use a bootable CWM SD to install them. But the CWM SDs are different. The CWM menu is the same, but one is coded to install the ROM on internal memory (emmc) and one is coded to put the ROM on the same SD that the CWM is on.
For a long time only SD installs were available, then the developer figured out how to install to emmc. Now almost all ROM zips are for emmc.
You did not answer my question about why you think you need CM10. You said something earlier about wii. I don't think CM10 on the HD supported wii.

Sorry I wrote this whole thing to you and then accidently deleted it, the only reason I actually need it is for wii remotes to work via bluetooth. The newer cyanogenmods and android builds broke it so it supposedly only works in cyanogenmod 10
And then in response to the last one, all i need to do is install the emmc? Do i need the newer gapps or cwm? And i just do it the same way as i did before?

Wow. Litterally almost nothing works in the cyanogenmod 10. haha. Thanks for your help anyway though man.
Hi newbie here please be patient,
I have just bought a couple of HD+'s for the kids (9 and 13) and I am trying to decide if I should just leave them on the stock firmware or update.
The guides for the process on the "Nook HD, HD+ General" sub forum look fantastic - thank you to all involved.
Anyway my questions.
My kids will want to play games, watch videos, browse the net (with restrictions), read books etc all pretty standard stuff - I have set one up including parental controls (kill joy here) looks pretty good, I can add the Play Store to his profile so he can add apps and then remove it etc.
I tried out YouTube and the picture was not the smoothest I have seen and also the sound on some HD trailers broke up (may have been nothing to do with the tablet).
I tried some games, seemed okay, tilt control worked for steering etc.
My reasons to upgrade would be: If videos/games were noticeably smoother / sound better and I like the idea that the build would be less customised, I assume if you want the Nook reading app you download and add rather than have a Nook that is also an Android.
However I want to update and forget, I can't afford the time to forever tweak, stability is critical. Battery life should not be compromised and Bluetooth/headphones needs to work.
Should I stay on stock and if not would 'cm-10.2.1-ovation.zip' be best for me as it is the last 10.2 version and marked as stable...
Sorry for all the questions - I though I was going to update but the stock rom does not seem bad enough to force me so I need advice.
Thanks in advance
Shaun
Update,
I have been using the stock interface for a couple of hours now - installing dropbox, wanting to browse files copy pictures / music etc onto the device. It looks like the stock interface is very restrictive and I would be forced to install several apps to do things that just come as standard on a vanilla android build? Most of my android experience comes from using a Samsung Galaxy S2 - which I had to root / and install a vanilla build when I changed networks - I assume (but may be wrong) that the 10.2.1 build would be very similar to the S2 build both Jelly Bean???
If this is the case should I go with the last 'Stable' version and is this a fairly safe.
Thanks again
Shaun
P.S. Please feel free to correct my assumptions,,,

You can try running CM off SD card to see if it suits your needs, before investing the time to install it internally on emmc. CM10.2.1 builds for SD can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389813. Sandisk class 4 is generally the preferred card for hosting a ROM. Running off SD would not have the same responsiveness as running on emmc, but it'd give you a fell for the ROM's features and stability.

You can't copy the apps from SD to EMMC, but if you enabled Google Backup service while running on SD, the Playtore apps that you install on SD would typically be automatically downloaded to your EMMC right after you sign in to Google account during initial setup phase, although the apps' personal setting will need to be re-entered.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2679899 for info/pointers on how to install CM11 on EMMC.
Make sure you back up your stock ROM (step #6) in case you want to go back.

Hi digixmax,
thanks! backed up and emmc install complete....
I had a problem with step 3 in your guide
>3. Use the archive file manager to extract the files from the .img file and copy them to the SD card
- 7-zip does not open the .img file
I ended up following this guide as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42406126&postcount=7
The emmc install used a less complete gapps file than the SD card install so I repeated the process (without backup as I already have one) after replacing the gapps file with:
pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20141008-signed.zip
When I tried installing this gapps file I got an error 'not enough memory?' odd as fine for SD install?
Anyway I switched to this gapps file:
pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.4-20141011-signed.zip
which worked fine and includes a few more apps by default.
One small niggle:
As I boot I briefly get some strange screen distortion between the Nook screen and the cyanoboot universal bootloader screen.
I don't get this during the SD boot?
My SD install uses these version:
CyanogenMod version
11-20140804-UNOFFICIAL-bok-ovation
Android Version
4.4.4
Kernel
3.0.31 5th August 2014
the current emmc install has these versions
CyanogenMod version
11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-m11-ovation
Android Version
4.4.4
Kernel
3.0.31-GREEN+ 8th Oct 2014
I did a 3rd install trying to match more closely the SD versions, this made no difference I still get the screen corruption between screens.
Do other people get this or have I ended with something wrong? I assume it must be the CWM that is causing the problem? (I did a 'wipe data/factory reset' between each install attempt)
I am keen to get this right if possible as I have 2 more HD+'s to do... There is a deal on refurbished HD+'s less than £75 each!!! and these don't look refurbished to me more like old stock?
Thanks again
Shaun

I have no problem unpacking verygreen's emmc-cwm-early3.1.img file using 7-zip (v9.25). For convenience, I have repackaged its content as verygreen_emmc-cwm-early3.1-boot.zip downloadable from http://www.mediafire.com/download/a3b6k2bo2erddjc/verygreen_emmc-cwm-early3.1-boot.zip

That also happens on my HD+ running CM11.

Thanks! I am still using 7-zip v9.20 from 2010, 9.25 is an alpha release, I am highlighting my tendency to stick to the tried and tested versions

I am much happier it is not just me... although it is odd that the SD card install does not share this 'feature'...
Thanks again

That is because that SD version is by bokbokan and he fixed it. All of the other ROMs (including the official) are derived from verygreen's version which has the glitch.
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using XDA Premium HD app

Hi Leapinlar,
is there not a bokbokan version for EMMC?
Thanks
