So I was just kinda curious about this. Personally I use either handcent or chomp sms. But I want to know why no one has improved the lag issue on the stock messaging app. I personally get and receive about a thousand texts every other day. And deleting them can be difficult ex. I got invited to a wedding and deleted the info. I was wondering if anyone is working on it or if they just say use chomp and handcent.

So I just checked and it seems like the latest cyanogen nightly has fixed it. It loaded up over a thousand texts and opened the app in a blink of the eye. I'll see if performance continues

I'm only just beginning to test, but a new app seems to have been released:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.watto.program.android.sync.facebook&feature=search_result
Figured it might be useful to those that want to see contact details (not just the pictures).
So far the app seems to work perfectly with only one exception... it sync's the birthday info as "Event" in the contact account instead of "Birthday".
The issue with that is that apps/widgets that track/display birthdays don't pick it up properly.
I sent an email to the dev, new app so may be something he will quickly fix. If not, the source code is actually available on his site, which is nice.
Yeah, I'm using it now, it's working well the only thing is... to keep the pictures synced completely you need to "join" contacts with the Facebook contact being the primary contact. Which usually means that my contacts all have stupid names because I have stupid friends.
So I'm using Sync my pics as well.

Thanks will give this a try.

Dev has already uploaded a fixed version for the Events/Birthday issue and emailed me about it.
Super responsive and is still working perfectly.
Warning. This app eats battery life. It doesn't close. I'd much rather run syncmypix every couple days then have this running constantly, it was at 26%!

Hrm, sure you're talking about the right app? This sets up a sync service, there isn't a standalone app or anything. It syncs my data and then doesn't do anything for 24 hours (you can pick the frequency).
Anyway, no such issue on my device at least.
That hasn't been my experience. Set it to sync less often

First off, I love my Bionic. It's awesome. I'm having problems with the stock SMS app and contact photos. I haven't been able to find a resolution after searching on Google and perusing the forums. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Elaborate on your problem. What is not working properly? Explain your issue more please and I'll try to help.

Sorry. Facebook contact photos show up in the contact and dialer apps, but not in the stock sms app. They also show up in Handcent. I'm not sure what to do..
Weird.
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Text Messaging>Clear data
Try that and reboot.

I tried that, with no success.. Also I seem to hands been mistaken. Facebook contact photos only show up sporadically in contacts, and none show up in Text Messaging or in Go SMS Pro. I also have removed and added back my Facebook account. No solution as of yet.

UPDATE: It seems to be fixed after redoing the account setup. Facebook is slowly updating the photos. Thanks for your help!

Anyone have a way to sync Facebook contacts in JB 4.3 like the one in Sense? Is there a way to pull that file and install it?

HaxSync

Sorry should have been more clear... To import fb contacts like stock.
My understanding is all these apps can do is add photos to existing contacts.
Or does it pull all fb contacts and show them under people?
I know its just a buck, but I don't feel like paying for something that won't work....
Anyone confirm how haxsync work?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Well that was a waste of a buck. Haxsync was worthless. All it did was pull birthdays and events for fb contacts. Didn't do anything to pull contacts and their numbers to integrate with phone book.
Plenty of other free apps that could have done this without paying.

Contacts+ is free and syncs with Facebook and g+. I like it
I went back to Sync.me.
I thought maybe since HaxSync was paid might have Facebook contact number capability...
But I think no 3rd party app is capable of it.
Tried contacts+ its OK but nothing spectacular. Sync.me pulled contact information from people that were in my phone but not my Facebook friends off their public profiles.... So now I even have pictures to their names....Useful for like employees, where you don't necessarily want them as Facebook friends but need their number in your phone book.

I've been on Evolve since it came out (I still had my S4). It would crash constantly and I would never be able to send/receive pics and the Dev is a d!ck. Got my S5 and been on the stock messaging app and haven't looked back! Might try out Hoverchat (previously NinjaSMS).
I'm finding stock to be really sluggish with a lot Of lag. I uSe textra. It's very fast.

Actually since you mentioned hover chat. I tried it and loved it!!
Then like every single other app, something is missing.. can't send videos..
so it gets a big F
Only had the phone a weekend, so take this with a grain of salt. . .
Started stock obviously, but I got sick of Touchwiz on day 1 so switched to the Google Launcher.
When I did that, Google tries to take everything, (msg app included) so I started using Hangouts.
It is horrible. Really bad. The basic functionality is OK, but it is the other garbage that they stick in the way that annoys so much.
Sure- I could send this message using G+, but why would I, and now you've made me waste time telling you that.
Back to standard app, which seems better than previous Samsung versions. Open to suggestions though

I'm using Go sms pro. Found the stock app to be really laggy especially with large conversations. I think it was trying to load all the convos or something, as go sms only loads a handful at a time. Also has nice themes etc

I'm using Hover Chat since I used my S3. And now, I'm still using it on my S5.
I don't know, but I love the interface and all.

EvolveSMS: it's well designed, fast and has a clean and sharp ui.

I'm using Handcent as I like the level of customisation, the missed text reminder, different missed text tone options, plus able to give different contacts different LED colors, flash rates and vibration patterns. I've been using it for years and haven't come across anything better...
Hello. It's great, it works, it's light and clean. It fires up way faster than the stock app.

Hoverchat because I love the chat heads clone on it.
I used to use hangouts, but not being able to stack pictures into a single MMS (hoverchat doesn't either but whatever) led me to trying others.

I also use Textra. It's simple, light, and I love the quick reply window that pops up whenever I get a text.

Galaxy S does that by defaut (excepted led color + flash rates) since S3 i think (i was using Light Flow for that back then).
Yes, i'm using defaut app, best to keep things simple imo.
I only install google keyboard to get better recognition while swyping.
I wonder how some people could crash it as i had some history of several years of messages imported and never seen any messaging app crash on any of my Galaxy S.
