[Q] Moving to Paranoid Android from Ultimate N7000 XXLSC JellyBean 4.1 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm finding Ultimate N7000 XXLSC slightly slow and buggish. I want to change to the ParanoidAndroid ROM, would this be a better move?
If so, what are the steps to changing to ParanoidAndroid from Ultimate N7000 XXLSC. I have the Philz Touch 4 kernel installed.
I have already downloaded: gapps-jb-20121011-signed and pa_n7000-2.21-13OCT2012-162120
Advice would be appreciated....

Backup the apps using titanium backup if you want them on pa too.. Go into recovery make a nandroid backup just in case no go into advance there is a option clean the phone for install new rom(i don't remember the exact name but by this you can address it correctly) now intall the paranoid and flash the gapps and you are done
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Just to add to abhi... Ultimate rom has an older version of Philz kernel which may cause problems while installing the PA rom.. so either update the kernel to 4.35 version or use a CM kernel..

I did just that last week. the steps i took were:
1- flash CM10 kernel (important. Philz can cause trouble)
2- reboot recovery, this will bring you right back to recovery. you won't have touch anymore (CM10 kernel comes with CWM 6 recovery)
3- factory restore
4- on mounts and storage, format /system /data and /preload
5- flash paranoidandroid
6- on advanced screen, wipe dalvik cache
7- reboot
8- restore user apps and data from titanium (you did a backup before starting, right ?)
9- DO NOT restore system apps or data, except call log, bookmarks and SMS messages, and this ones, restore from XML
10- DO NOT restore touchwiz apps, like SNote. Titanium will get stuck while doing it, and they won't work anyway.

Thanks, it worked. Now I'm having issues with the internet. It works via wifi but the modem (I think it is that) seems not to be working. The stock modem that came with Paranoid isn't working. I tried installing XXLSC and the XXLSO modens but none are connecting to the internet.
I make and recieve sms and calls? Is there something Im overlooking?

PA rom doesnot come with modem.. it used the modem already installed on the phone, check your APN settings,

New User, have some questions

Hi guys, just got a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 dirty cheap from Hong Kong, and using it now in the states. I am a huge fan of rooting/flashing and stuff, so I decided to give myself a little test and see how long I can keep this phone stock. I lasted two days...haha.
So, I set out to see how to root this thing. After reading thread after thread, I learned about the wipe brick bug on stock Samsung kernels.
Now here's my question:
I want to use method 1A (to be safe) using this guide here, and it led me to this thread. Now here's where I get confused. Which kernel am I supposed to download and flash?
My Stock ROM system info (remember, this is from Hong Kong)
Model Number:
GT-N7000
Android Version:
4.0.3
Baseband Version:
N7000XXLR1
Kernel Version:
3.0.15-N7000ZSLPF-CL558440
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Tue May 15 15:39:39 KST 2012
Build Number:

Any for of enlightenment is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
The easiest is flash a safe custom kernel that will be safe to wipe, provides root access, and has Clockworkmod Recovery. Below is how I setup my phone to flash Paranoidandroid. I started with a stock N7000XXLRT rom. I did install and run Triangle Away to later to remove the yellow triangle counter warning on boot. Largely cosmetic. Please check wikis of this speedmod kernel supports ICS 4.0.3.
If all you want is root and a safe kernel then you end with step 3 and apply Triangle Away.
1. Begin with a stock ICS rom on your Note.
2. Use Odin on the PC,select PDA, and flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar with usb cable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
3. After flashing speedmod kernel you will have root access, and a custom Clockworkmod Recovery in which to flash custom roms.
4. Get Paranoidandroid zip and Gapps zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713 . Copy the Paranoidandroid and Gapps zip files on your phone's internal sd card.
5. Backup efs folder just to be sure. Use kTool from Google Play or manually copy the EFS folder with Explorer+ also from Google Play. Copy the files to your pc.
6. Press power button, select reboot, reboot into recovery and go to backup and restore section and create a backup. Select go back and reboot.
6. Reboot into recovery (Clockworkmod Recovery) wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache (advanced).
7. From recovery, select install from zip from sd card. Select choose zip from internal sdcard. Select the Paranoid rom zip and flash. Do the same to flash Gapps zip. Go back and reboot.
*When flashing nightlies, no need to wipe cache, data, and dalvik. But install Gapps zip again in Recovery. You will need to set up your Google account again.

Thanks. So it doesn't matter that I am on Stock Samsung ICS ROM from Hong Kong?
And also, what version of Odin do I use, or does it not matter?
Yes. HK rom pretty much is the same kernel with local enhancements. The XXLR1 seems to be German or European. It should be ok. Again please verify if the speedmod kernel works with ICS 4.0.3. The site says ICS so I think it does.
I used Odin3-v1.85.zip. Make sure you have an excellent usb cable. Test the rig by copying large files between your pc and the Note internal sdcard.

[Q] i9000 update cm 10.1 to 10.2 - Prob. with Google account

Hallo,
i have a problem with updating cm 10.1 to 10.2 on my i9000. Like i say, i had allready cm 10.1 and prior to that 10.0 and helly bean. Till now everything was fine and every update was OK. I have allready root rights.
Now i tried to flash cm 10.2 like that;
1.
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvic cache
- flash cm-10.2-20130824-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip - 2 times
- flash gapps 10.2.x 20130813
- reboot system now
After reboot, i'm in the welcome modus - i choose German - then start - then i can choose the connection WLAN or skip with data. In this part i get allready an error massage "com.google.android.gsf.login" and "unfurnatly google account manager was shut down". After that i'm back again in the choose-connection area. After chosing WLAN or skip and use data, i always get the above mentioned message.
Restore 10.1 again
2.
like above, but extra mounts and storage - format /system
- Result like 1
3.
Just update from 10.1 to 10.2 with CWM, without wipe data/factory reset - wipe cache partition - wipe dalvic cache.
- Result 4.3 is on my mobile, but there ist still the error massage from above.
4.
like 3, but i deleted the Google account in 10.1. Just uodated to 10.2 without wiping.
- Result -> no error massages, but i can't add google account. I clik on add account - google -> but nothing happen.
I don't know what to do. Do somebody have any idea? Where is my oult?

Your foult is that you didn't read pawitp's opening post carefully. All steps untill gapps were fine, then after gapps you should have remained in CWM recovery and go to advanced restore and restore your /data from last nandroid backup from cm10.1, it works perfectly well.
I would advice you not to install 20130824 build anymore as it has some serious bugs (I run it in my i9000 and it works perfectly fine but some people had total re-formatting ofntheninternal SD card and data lost) but wait now for just short, any moment nightly 20130827 will be uploaded. The bugs are fixed there.
Then you can repeat proceeding once again as above and accomplish with /data restore. Then it should work fine again
Ok, i try it
Last question before i try, i have to restore just /data, wich backup do i have to do, full backup or just /data?
Thanx a lot

OK, now the new nightly build is there, CM10.2 20130827
Do all your steps as above (download zip, go to recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache under "advanced", install 20130827 zip, stop here) now new:
if your last installed build is 10.2 you have already installed gapps for CM10.2 so you can skip re-installing them again
now go to "advanced restore" and choose your last nandroid backup of the CM10.1, where your google account was still working fine
choose now from your last nandroid file the option: "restore /data"
after restore is finished go back to main menu and reboot the system
Unless if you have formatted your SD card meanwhile, all your data will be back like they were in the CM10.1 (also your google account) and your new CM10.2 will work fine.
For thanking, it is common in this forum to click on "thanks" button left beyond all the posts which you find to be helpful
Hy, i tried what you said. I restored 10.1 before it
*
wipe data / factory reset - wipe cache - advanced .. wipe dalvic cache*- install 10.2
then - flash gapps for 10.2
then - restore just data
reboot system
*
4.3 is on my mobile, google account seems to be OK. But then i recognized, that my Contacts, Keep, Google+ and some other points doesn't synchronize. I've tried flash gapps again, then restore data -> error massage "google account closed"
*
My next step was to do above mentioned again - same error massage
*
So, i do it again. After wipe data / factory reset - wipe cache a.s.o. i had a look in my storage/sdcard0. It was full of old data, so i extra formated /system and formated /storage/sdcard0. After that i flashed 10.2 and gapps again and restored data. I receive the same sh.. error again and google account doesn't work.
*
Now i restored 10.1 again completely
*
Any idea?

Did you enable contacts sync in your accounts? Other thing you can do is to export all your contacts (in "people" ) as vfc data and after the upgrade import it from your SD card. I did that as I don't like google sync functions (for having few accounts) so I only enabled sync for the apps.
Other great thing is to use free app "SMS backup&restore" and "Call logs backup&restore" (by the same developer) from play store. The apps work for any android version and backup data is compatible to restore as well
Try to post in the development thread of nightly cm10.2 for i9000 or read through, I think also somebody else reported problems with google account, maybe it is solved why it happened.
BTW: for next flashing don't use nightly 20130827 anymore as the new 20130828 is out and it has many bug fixes

Hy, i'm again. I try it with the newest cm, with the same result. I flashed exactly like the developer said. No error message, but play store, contacts and some other things don't work.
I would like to post in the development Center, but I am a to young forum member.
Maybe you could post for me my problem or the link to this posts?

Just one question: did you flash the gapps for 4.3 as well? Developer pawitp is a genious person and he doesn't mention it anymore in his first posts (he thinks that everybody knows it.....)
If you didn't, you can do it later as well, just download them and install zip in recovery mode..... Sorry if it doesn't work. Then would be better to wait untilmstable version is released. CM 10.2 works in my i9000 amazing, but another people report bugs.
Of course, i flashed gapps for 4.3. Some user posted in developement thread, that they solved the problem with the google account with Titanium Backup. They restored data with TB. Do you know what i have to backup / restore: user apps & data & system data?
*
Could you*post a question fpr me in the developement thread if this problem is known to the developers and if they have a resolution? Maybe they are allready working on it and solve the problem in next nightlys?

you have no idea how little free time I have. But you're already on 5 posts, just five more and you will be able to post the questions in development threads. It is anyway better that you describe what the problem is. I think I saw in CM10.2 thread yesterday that the developer pawitp works on that.
EDIT: BTW, restoring /data from nandroid backup made with CM10.1x under CWM recovery -->advanced restore is possible without problems. But I think we have mentioned that already in last posts...
OK, I can understand you.
What do I have to do first: flash gapps or restore /data?
have you checked that dataprotection for these apps is not enabled?

I've posted your question and left link to this thread in the CM10.2 development topic. Hope somebody will answer soon.
If your Google account worked well in CM10.1x, I would say you should try this way:
download the newest CM10.2 nightly zip (20130830) directly here: http://get.cm/get/amd
download Google Apps zip for Android 4.3
run CWM recovery mode
try option "install zip" and don't install yet, just check if your zip files are visible for the CWM recovery in the folder where you saved them
return to main menu and wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache under "advanced"
install zip CM10.2 nightly
install GApps for 4.3
go to "advanced restore" and choose your last nandroid backup file made by CM10.1 build where your Google account worked well
now choose (from that nandroid backup file) the option "restore /data"
after your data are restored, go back to the main menu and reboot the system
Let me know if it worked. Please quote at least little bit of my text (click "reply" beyond my post) so I will get the notification that you've quoted me, otherwise I don't see when you answer
p.s. good point by @Marvi70 just one post before (this one) mine

in settings -> apps, in the app property of those apps check if dataprotection is enabled (no access to private data). When yes disable it.

BTW, after your post about Titanium Backup I've tried indeed to restore data only from my old backup of Angry Birds app, it went perfectly well
Backup file was done with rooted Froyo 2.2 and restored in CyanogenMod 10.2
Before importing the data saved in different ROM, I used the settings exactly like described on the website of Titanium. I've checked again CM development posts about Titanium backup and they talk indeed about the one shouldn't restore whole apps.... but data only seems not to be a problem!
Big thanks, mate!

Instructions for those on ...94 or ...1 (should work for earlier builds too) who want to keep their data (apps) (beta, Works fine for Me)
1) Wipe dalvik cache, & cache
2) Reboot recovery
3) Mount system
4) Install Rom (from mhous33 above)
Option1) Flash My PP Mod NOTE: this one must come before the next option.
Option2) Flash sd swap update (attachments) & say no to "disable recovery flash"
5) reboot
Instructions for those coming from some other Rom OR do not want to keep their data (apps)

Option1) Flash My PP Mod NOTE: this one must come before the next option.
Option2) Flash sd swap update (attachments) & say no to "disable recovery flash"

Always use TWRP 2.6+ OR Philz v6.
Always choose any NO when rebooting from Philz.

Notification Toggles is a great substitute for an extended power menu.
I attached my backup to make setup easier. Goes in (with the sd swap working) storage0/android/data/de.j4velin.notificationToggle/files.
Set toggle per line to 6.

I am testing this perfomance mod & so far it is amazing. There is some lag on SD access right after bootup....
This Audio mod too.

NOTE: Not for cm based, multuser, or anything but 4.1.2 stock roms!
Be sure to try Xposed Framework http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 when done!
Note: the dst is recommeded over the bloated deodexed as now with odexed being xposed compatible & faster.
SafeStrap compatible rom Version 2 is in attachments. Full bloat versions sans the SD swap. Follow the instructions below & if you want the SD swap just flash the Unlocked version over it before you reboot- follow the same fundamental steps as in the previous post- rom slot OR stock slot.
Added a SS version of Mhous33's debloated odexed rom.
Has the same features as the unlocked version, but better because the cautions about killing the SD swap do not apply to the SS version.
You may have forced closes & wifi problems if you try either version without being on ...94 beforhand as the kernel is newer- beware.
See Attachments for Rom link
Here are instructions from the creator of SafeStrap. Please understand what you are doing before moving on.
Hashcode on SafeStrap :http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/how-to-safestrap/
Proceed if you are on stock 98.18.94 or 98.30.1 & have a current backup of your stock slot.
Obligatory warning: UpDating to 98.18.94 or 98.30.1 WILL PREVENT A BOOTLOADER UNLOCK IF YOU FLASH IT TO A LOCKED PHONE.
You can install to rom slots but not to the stock slot.
Here is where you venturesome people need to test if you do try flash 98.30.1, while you are on 98.16.1, that it does work ok. Try everything out before you try to put it on your stock slot. Be warned.
I have been on the ...78 kernel with mous33's DST & have no issues. I speculate that the slight change in kernel #s is for some bloat apps.
Update running on stock slot may cause lags. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50432621&postcount=57
Try on just a rom slot first but there will be no access to internal SD. So be sure to save what you want to the external SD first!
1) Create a ROM slot
2a) Mount system & install My ROM to the same ROM slot
2b) Optional: Restore current data (uncheck system) from your stock slot backup & wipe cache & dalvik cache
2c) Optional flash SD swap update here
3) Bootup the ROM
IF this works for you it is fine as you could delete all of the internal SD from your stock slot. This is the goal anyway & you have less confusion with only your external SD.
Take a more than a moment to read this unique thread on what it means to "write over your stock slot" & at the bottom of page 1 Rik Rong: "That should work," about getting your stock slot back again.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/11600-installing-custom-rom-to-stock-using-ss-312/
These steps will overwrite your stock slot and allow the full SD swap. BE SURE YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH IT BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Also note in this approach the data/apps you want to move to the NEW rom are to come from your stock slot. If you want the opposite WIP

3) Make a Backup of your ROM (save it to external storage)
4) Switch to Stock slot (you know you in stock when "install" and System" turn to red font)
5) Wipe cache & dalvik cache
6) Restore Backup with the data un-checked (if done right the only file available will be the Backup you just made)

Avi, you might want to add instructions in the OP for the SS people. Instructions about setting up a ROM slot, not flashing over the stock slot, etc.

No, your stickys are great and I am attempting to install on slot one. Clean rom and bare bones work, but the other deox roms fail at attempting to install.
Installed this today... so far so good!
Anyone using arrghhh's kernel, or keeping stock?
Should i be concerned about it NOT displaying the "Warning, boot loader unlocked" screen ?
That should be specific to whether or not you've changed your boot logo. What is appearing in place of the warning now?
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
just the regular moto logo after flashing this rom. I used TWRP 2.6 came from beanstalk followed directions to T.. root and everything seems to work fine.
So seems no issue. I can still get into recovery. Just worried me because I always saw that "Warning" logo no matter what rom i had on since unlock....
Works good for me. Love the sd swap part. No need to worry about space or hassle of moving apps.
But is there a way to enable tethering without the use of third party app ( i am not on verizon ) ?
Does this rom have the moto smart actions still in it?

[Solved] No sdcard after flash The_apes Flashable zip in clockwork

Hi !
I have a 32 Gb Touchpad on CM10.1 and i'd like to upgrade on CM11 with Milaq ROM.
So, i downloaded The_apes Flashable zip (this one : sys_512mb_data_plus_24576mb-signed.zip) and i flash it with ClockworkMod 5.x. I've got 2 errors like this.
After that, i flashed with the new ClockworkMod 6.x, but, now, when i want to flash ROM, i've got only 0/ and obb/ folders. I can't acces to sdcard/cminstall.
Boot on Android works fine, but, what i have to do to finish my upgrade on CM11 ?
Thanks a lot for your help !
Edit : on ES Explorer you have to activate root access to see /data/media/0

Welcome to the world of DataMedia.
In CM10.1 use a Root Browser app (e.g. ROM Toolbox lite) or a file manager app with root permissions (e.g. ES File Explorer or X-Plore) to move your CM11 ROM zip to a directory accessible to your new CWM recovery.
Myself I store all my ROM and recovery zips in the Download directory, where Chrome and Firefox also download files to.
e.g.
/storage/sdcard0/Download
/data/media/0/Download
Thanks woodytrain for your quick reply.
I tried to put my ROM /storage/sdcard0/Download but it's the same, i don't see this folder.
In /data, i've no folder
I tried to find obb/ with ES Explorer and it found it on /mnt/, is it normal ?
Last thing, i gone in WebOS in order to use Tailor and found this partition layout, i think it's not ok to flash KitKat :
USB (media) = 25.43 Gib
Android (system) = 408 Mib
Android (cache) = 200 Mib
Android (data) = 1.5 Gib
Unused Space = 8 Mib
I don't knom how to install KK on my touchpad. I don't understand because i don't thing to be a newbie, i flashed i9000 on CM 10.2, Touchpad on CM10.1, but KK made me crazy !
Thanks for your help !
You need to change your partition sizes. At the very least need to increase /system
And if you want to install a DataMedia (DM) ROM, you need to make additional adjustments.
Right now there are three (or four) KitKat (4.4.2) ROM's for the TouchPad (tenderloin) to choose from:
CM11 - 3.0 kernel (Milaq) - DM
CM11 - 3.4 kernel (invisiblek) - DM
Evervolv - AOSP - 3.4 kernel (flintman) - (two version:- one DM and one not)
If you want to install KitKat on your TouchPad will need to do some reading. Keep in mind all these KK 3.x kernel based ROMs are in development (experimental and/or for testing). Each has its own pros and cons, and various TouchPad features are not yet working, features you might have observed working in previous JB 2.6 kernel ROMs.
If you want to stay with JB, until KK is better baked for the TouchPad you may want to try out the new JB 3.x kernel ROM just released from jcscullins (01-25-14). It is NOT a DM ROM, whereas Milaq's CM10.2 (JB) is a DM ROM.

Suggestions:
1. For each ROM you are interested in thoroughly read the OP. And suggest reading, at the minimum the last five pages of each thread.
2. Then visit [ROM GUIDE] How to Update/Install Android 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 Builds on the HP TouchPad
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321397
3. Be sure to read the info on how to update your partition for DM support. If you decide to go with a DM ROM, I would suggest using Tailor to change your partitions since you have Tailor installed on your device already.
4. Backup your device before proceeding. Generate a nandroid backup in your recovery as well as back up your app/data with Titanium Backup
5. A "full wipe" in your recovery (factory reset, including clearing caches, formatting /system) is generally recommended when doing major upgrades (not just a nightly flash of the same ROM).
Once you have chosen a ROM to install, and have downloaded the zips for both the matching ROM and Recovery zips (note each ROM has it's own specific recovery version matched to the ROM), then you should be ready to upgrade.
If you have questions before upgrading post your SPECIFIC questions/issues, identifying the ROM version you are coming from and going to.
Thanks woodytrain for your help.
I understood what i missed : root explorer button on Es Explorer
So, now, i can see my files with clockwork Recovery, yes ! I put them in /data/media/0/Download.
After that, i'm gone on Tailor to resize my partitions.
Now, i have :
600 Mb for system
200 Mb for cache
15 Go for media
and ~ 6 Go for data, it's not enough but don't care now...
So, i flashed my rom (Milaq CM11) and gapps (after factory reset, format /system, clear /cache) but now, when i boot on cyanogen, i've cyanogen logo and that's all... only a blank screen, i think i'will made an other post except if you have an idea

Not sure what is meant by "15 Go for media". Recommend you follow the partition instructions as listed in the OP of Milaq's CM11 ROM thread. At any rate...
Before you started the process did you do a nandroid, and backup your apps and data with TiBu or helium?
Then when you did the wipe, did you clear Dalvick cache as well?
And then did you flash the CWM recovery version listed in the OP of Milaq's CM11 ROM thread (CWM 6.0.4.6)? You MUST use that version.
http://milaq.exnet.me/downloads/tenderloin/misc/recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.6-tenderloin.zip
You might want to redo the process and hold off installing gapps until you have booted into CM11. Then go back to recovery and install the gapps listed in the OP. Or install one of the PA-gapps packages.
With a few more posts you receive the right to post to the ROM dev thread. Joy!
I reply only to increase my posts and because i made a big big mistake after this post, i formated all partitions on clockworkmod (6.0.4.6 ). So i will create an other thread on forum...
Mad and Confused
I was duped into updating to 4.4 evervolv when i was on their 4.3.1 rom and im not understanding the layout of my sd-card now. i know all my info is still there but unsure how to reformat so i can use all my space. 32gb touchpad. i will use root explore app to get all my data but can i use onboard storage app to format? Really pissed im in this situation at all. Stupid to be on a 4.3.1 rom and update only to find out it's now a 4.4 rom and my sd-card is different. Thanks much
Nevermind, got it sorted. Good excuse to repartition and reformat everything. Still want nothing from evervolv but there 16mb Gapps package, mwahaha

Easy Flashing guide for CM or Aosp build and MIUI using TDB

Hi Guys,
Lot of peoples had experienced trouble while enabling TDB for flashing two separate ROMs in MI3 ( Even me too ). But this thread will explain as an easy way to flash both ROM's without having any trouble.
I hope everyone knows about the CWM recovery installation and how it can be used for backup and restore processes. And those who don't know these process, then i would request them to check the xiaomi mi3 Q&A thread. you will get
Just to add some note before going into the flashing process, There are two system partition in MI3, System 1 and System 2.By default, TDB( True dual boot) is disabled and one common data partition is available for both two's systems.
Once you enabled TDB( True dual boot ) then the common data partition will split into two data partitions such as data1 and data 2. System 1 will use data1 and system 2 will use data2 contents. The data is meant to be user data such as installed apps, contacts etc
Why MIUI have been using a common data partition for both two system's?:silly:
Because the developers or beta testers can use the stable MIUI as well as beta MIUI ROMs in a single device without any trouble. Also no need to install each app on both rom's while switching. Because stock recovery will share the user data since they have a common user data partition.
But TDB, it doesn't share the user data ( data partitions ). it will say like system1 must use data1 and system2 must use data2. Hence we can install Aosp, CM or other source build in system1 and MIUI on system2 without any trouble.
The below steps will explain how to do this,
1) Take a CWM backup of your current MIUI ROM and copied to somewhere else ( your pc or sd card etc )
2) Go to recovery , wipe data/factory reset
3) Wipe cache and Wipe dalvik cache
4) Format System1 and System 2
5) Format data
6) After that, Enable TDB from the advanced section inside the recovery (Select wipe when it asked)
7) Once it is finished, then Select the Reboot recovery option and wait for few seconds for the recovery area.
8) Choose install ZIP then select the CM package and flash it to the System1 when it asked ( IT IS IMPORTANT THAT AOSP OR CM BUILD MUST BE IN SYSTEM 1 AND MIUI ON SYSTEM2, else it will ended up with boot loop). Also flash Google apps into the same system
9) After that , reboot the recovery again
10) Go to restore -> select CWM backup of your previous MIUI ROM -> Restore to system 2
11) Once it is restored, select the active system which one you need to boot. you can choose either system1 or system2 from the advanced active system option.
12 ) Reboot the device and do fun with both builds without having any trouble or force closed. .:good:
ALSO NOTE THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKED DEVICE , TRY IT YOUR OWN RISK . I HAVE TESTED THIS WITH LATEST CM BUILD AND MIUI5..IT IS WORKING GREAT
Don't just go away after reading this and do click on thanks button If I helped you :laugh::fingers-crossed:

I haven't tested this with miui6 as I don't want to keep both beta ROM in a single device. Stable and beta that's a good choice for me.
According to the theory , it should work with Miui6. Remember to take a cwm backup first and try .

Hi guys, I found this guide on the MIUI thread. There are few differences as for when to enable TDB and whipes. Does it make any difference?
1. Take a CWM backup of your current MIUI V6 system.
2. Disable TrueDualBoot in CWM (choose wipe) and reboot recovery
3. Do a factory reset on both systems (system1 & system2)
4. Clear cache
5. Clear Dalvik Cache of both systems (system1 & system2)
6. Format both system partitions (system1 & system2)
7. Format both data partitions (data1 & data2)
8. Flash CM 11 zip in SYSTEM1
9. Flash GAPPS in system1 (optional)
10. Enable TrueDualBoot in CWM (choose wipe) and reboot recovery
11. Restore CWM backup of your previous system to SYSTEM2
12. Voila!! Now choose your default system. (System1 for CM & System2 for MIUI). Have fun with CM11 guys

Miui6 and AICP ROM working
Hi all.
I finally be able to enable TDB in MI3 with miui 6 and AICP ROM without any reboot so far (36 hours). Even when i wipe data, cache, system and Dalvik cache the phone experienced force closes on miui6 and reboots on CM11 and others.
But 2 days ago i discovered a folder on the SD partitation with the name 0 (zero) with all the information and packages of the CM11 ROM and erased it.
I did a clean install on both systems and put miui6 on system2 and AICP ROM on system1 and so far is working fine without FC in Miui and without reboots on AICP ROM.
Will installing cm 11 on mi 3 could void warranty??
when i go cwm recovery it shows system1 and system2
so my question is from should i start doing this method???

need expert advice
I may be asking vary basic or newbie question .. but looking for below solution and need someone advice..
I have MI3 with MIUI v34 STOCK ( I have not rooted or installed CWM).
What I want to achieve. I want to enable TrueDualBoot and once enable I want to install MIUI 6 developer rom on second partition (whichever partition is free for installation) and I will be using it as Primary ... and if anything goes wrong with MIUI6 I want to use the original/STOCK rom from 2nd partition.
How I can achieve ?
I have Question as below.
1. by default Stock rom is in which partition ?
2. Can I simply install CWM and install MIUI on other partition (i..e if Stock ROM is on partition then MIUI v6 on Parition 2 OR vice a varsa)
3. Or I must have to format system1 and system2 after enabling "TrueDualBoot" and must have to install STOCK ROM also ??
4. Also I should take Backup of Stock rom through CWM first OR should enable TrueDaulBoot and then should Take Backup ..?
Thanks in advance.

First you need to understand that MI3 can hold two Roms either Miui or CM based or Aosp using TDB. But the aosp and cm based ROM should be in system 1. Else you will end with bootloop. So, now going to your question,
once you installed CWM, you will be able to see which system is currently active ( for eg : it will show like system 1 (active) then it will be the running system )
So first take the backup of active system then keep it. Then, format data and system after enabling TDB. So, Now the current status is no Roms on 2 system partitions. At this time you can choose which one you need to install or not. And which backup you would like restore to system 1 or system 2 .But keep in mind that cm or aosp should be in system 1. Also you can keep two miui ROM on both these system like miui5 on system 1 and miui6 on system 2. The thing is MI3 can handle two Roms whatever it is but aosp or cm based ROM should be in system 1 if you trying to install it.
Hope it helps
Sent from my MI 3W using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks mate..Well explained.. i did TDB AOSP and MIUI..till now without any problem such as FC and lag..thanks again
Awesome guide...
When we Enable TDB in CWM doesn't it ask for an option to copy data 1 to data 2?
In that case can I just copy data1 to data2 and then flash MIUI ROM on system2?
Edit: Did exactly that and now I have Xenon HD lollipop on system1 and MIUI 6 on system2.
Thanks.
