Will any Mini HDMI to HDMI cable work for the Nexus 10? What I mean is, are there different ones, the part you plug into the Nexus, I know there are like tons of different usb connections.
I want to play content on a TV. I found a nice cheap $7.99 cable from Walmart, but don't know if it will do what I want?

It is microHDMI. I bought this one from Monoprice for $7.50 and it outputs both audio and video just fine.
So Mini would be a different one then?
Alright, are there USB to HDMI cables available? Does that do everything, any benefits?
You need a micro hdmi cable for your nexus 10... There are micro Usb to hdmi cables but they are for phones/tabs that use MHL... The nexus 10 has a dedicated hdmi port
The the micro hdmi port type D?

Hey guys.
So I bought one of these, only a 3 foot one, and it's absolutely wonderful.
Two questions though....
How long of a cable can I have before there becomes a streaming issue?
Also, how can I blank the tablet's screen while having it still continue to stream video content?
My device is rooted and I have Xposed framework installed.
Cheers.

WTF! This g-d [email protected] thing ruined my tablet. I installed it, then it went to screen off mode, which disabled my HDMI out too. So I couldn't see anything, so I turned it off and back on, and when it came back ... it was all reset to factory! everything is gone! Piece of crap

I have a micro HDMI I got from amazon and I use this app and works well after you learn how to set it up. Once you install you need to set your screen on regular settings to stay awake, I usually set it to 30 min, so the tablet won't turn the screen of while watching video, then I set the app in the settings to turn off screen with HDMI cable detection, then if you need to wake the screen after is off and you're watching something, it has a shake to wake feature, just shake the tab and will wake the screen up.
I have had it wake the screen up before while watching a vid but not often.

As far as I know it does. I tested it with Netflix, Emulators, Youtube videos, Android games, and internet browsing, and it mirrored everything pretty smoothly.
Oh and to watcher64, I guess it's just personal preference. I feel like a normal HDMI cable is much more accessible. There have been times when I wanted to connect to a TV at a friend's house and pretty much every TV these days has something which uses an HDMI cable. It's much easier to carry the adapter wit you and just swap wires than to carry a whole cable with you.

Well, it's from eBay.
To echo what has been said, I would definitely recommend a small HDMI to MicroHDMI adapter/dongle rather than getting a long MicroHDMI cable. HDMI cables are fairly ubiquitous and it is nice being able to use any cable available as long as you have the adapter with you.
I also recommend getting this rather than a straight adapter. The previously linked adapter will cause a little less strain on the port than this adapter because there would be less leverage.

I can echo what's been said before about ebay cables. I have one that works well with my XOOM and has been quite reliable (the official Motorola one I picked up off Amazon for 15 bucks or so) and a cheap one that is VERY flaky. It was okay the first few times, but after a few times in and out I think the solder connections inside got flaky. I've sold my XOOM to my mother (I'm very hesitant to sell my devices, but if they stay in the family I might get to see them again from time to time ) and I was going to give her the Motorola HDMI cable for her to use so I'm going to order one of those HDMI dongles right now and we'll see if it treats me well too.
I've been using an inexpensive cable from monoprice and it works great. I think I'm going to pick up one of those short mini-HDMI to HDMI dongles as I always seem to forget to bring the cable with me.

HDMI threw USB
Finally ordered a 1$ adapter (straight , no cable) and a micro usb to OTG wire !
I went with a 90 degree adapter from eBay, as the 90 OTG cable I have works so much better then a straight one ergonomically.
Just tried the adapter i picked up at monoprice and holy crap this thing is incredible on a 55 inch screen (UN55D7050). Played the Timescape clip and the results were jaw dropping. Also text was clear and crisp just like everything else. Love this tablet more everyday.

Sorry to be dim - can I just clarify that if I have Netflix on my tablet and a simple adapter, I can watch through my TV?
I was looking for a cheap 11 pin since the genuine one wasnt worth for how little I plan to use it and I took a shot at this one after seeing some good reviews with s3 users.
since i am new user I cant post links. goto amazon and search for "Skque Micro USB to HDMI 11-Pin MHL Adapter for Samsung Galaxy S3 SIII i9300 i9308 i939". it should be $5 with $4 shipping
It arrived today and worked right out of the box with my note 2. no jiggling cables and no interference. Who know how it work in the long run but i doubt i will use this more then a few times so, its def worth my $10.
good luck

Will this charge my note 2 while using it?
it need to be plugged in to power supply to be usable so yes. theres a plug on the side of the adapter to connect it to the power

wow!
Just got mine in the mail little over an hour ago. Took 1 week to arrive via USPS. Works fine, lags? or refreshes? every now and then. But for $30+ cheaper than the one I was going to order from Samsung, who cares. Netflix, Youtube, and browser work fine. Time Warner app and HBOGO don't support HDMI yet. Video games work great with minimal lag. NFS Most Wanted is AWSOME!!!, as good as any console. Next I'm getting the HDMI to VGA for my monitor, a bluetooth keyboard/touchpad combo and this: http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-Sona...54979999&sr=8-2&keywords=tablet+charging+dock
Maybe I'll post pics or video once everything is set up. I think my lonely laptop is getting jealous.
How well does this one charge when you plug it into the stock charger?
I ordered the one on amazon labeled "Skiva MHL Micro USB to male HDMI cable (6.5 feet) for Samsung Galaxy S3 (SIII LTE i9300 i535) and Samsung Note 2 Smarphones (HD-X3)". It's complete junk. Even when I connected it to the stock charger it would still slowly lose charge with the screen on the lowest setting. I guess the way that cable is setup it limits it to 500ma. It also randomly disconnects every minute or so I'm going to send it back on Monday.
I'm tempted to just suck it up and just buy the OEM cable from Samsung.

Which Monoprice one did you get? They seem to have 2 of the MHL items (and I can't find their 11 to 5 pin adapter at all).
Their MHL Item Numbers are 8675 and 9291.
EDIT: There is a link to the 11 to 5 pin adapter on the page for one of the MHL items, but it takes you to the home page. The item ID embedded in the web link appears to be 9716. Searching for that Item ID doesn't work either.

Yes/no. On one television my hdmi has no sound and on another it does. If I use my son's cable the sound work on both set's but not on his. I've read it is the combination. It's hit and miss with particular cables. But I have been sending the sound to the stereo with blue tooth, so I don't use it anyhow.
I read the original post and was going to recommend purchasing locally so it could be exchanged if you ran into this situation.
I also like the idea of purchasing a short conversion cable to attach any hdmi! Great idea!

This is a panasonic issue. Not a cable issue from what I can tell. I have 2 cables (Dynex and Motorola) Both work the exact same. Fine on my Sony, no sound on Panny.
when you buy a regular hdmi cable you need to look for the version of the protocol that the cable supports (for features) and for gold connectors, with this small connector cables are there other considerations?
Just got a Fosmon Micro HDMI to HDMI (M/M) High-Speed Cable with Ethernet and Gold-Plated Connectors for Asus Transformer TF300 Prime - (6FT)
Video works, but audio doesn't work on my TV (some older VIERA TV). Judging by that Panasonic note mentioned earlier in the thread, that might explain the lack of audio :/
In any case, it's a very nice cable It's out of stock on Newegg currently though, but I paid like $3 for it.
I got a 5m on eBay in the end. It only came to £6.50 and video and audio work great!

Our phones are pretty picky when it comes to which adapter they work with. I've tested a couple actually and I can vouch for the one made by analogix. I would post a direct link to the amazon listing, but as a new user I need to rack up 10 posts...
But if you search "SlimPort HDMI Adapter - Connect MyDP enabled mobile devices to any TV" it'll come up as $29 Prime.
This adapter, while expensive, works very well and has not cut out on me during hours of straight use. It has a charging port to provide power to the phone while in use, but i should tell you that while i had this connected my phone still discharged very slowly. Maybe 1% every 5-10 minutes. But that's with wi-fi, blutooth connected to a keyboard and mouse, and an aux cable hooked up to my speakers. So... not bad.
I got this one:
http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/161112913690?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Works great. With Wifi & BT on, battery got discharged about 4%. Not too bad considering that even the screen remains on.
The "slow charging" message is always there.
Anyone knows how to turn the screen off while connected to a big screen?
EDIT:
Oh cool.. found an app which does that!
http://www.screenstandby.com/
I've yet to see if it works on Slimport, but I don't think it'll be a problem..

I've tried this trick before on an official Samsung dock and official Samsung MHL adapter on an S4.
Didn't work.
MHL/Slimport utilizes alot more pins for it to work and I strongly doubt the charging dock will carry all the signals. Most probably it just carries the 2 power lines over.

I tested the slimport; worked with a few HDTVs but there is a 1080p Samsung TV made a few years ago that doesn't work with it. Could be HDMI port compatibility problem. I was able to get the same TV display the screen of a moto photon phone just using a microHDMI to HDMI cable.

I'm using the Cable Matters slimport adapter. It's a little glitchy.
It needs to be disconnected and re-connected once in a while, but more importantly you cannot connect the power or it cuts out completely. The G2 battery holds out ok and charges quickly so I'm just rolling with it but you may want to try another one before going to this.
My adapter only displays the camera in portrait mode. Is that a problem for anyone else or just my adapter?

I had all kinds of trouble getting either my 710 or 810 to connect. If I fiddled with it enough, pluging/unplugging, turning the TV off/on while plugged in, switch apps etc. it would finally connect but the resolution was lousy. Broke down and bought a Chromecast dongle. Even with that, the Screen Mirror res was bad but apps with built in Chromecast connectivity like Netflix were OK.
Sorry for the bad news but Samsung really dropped the ball on this issue.

Yeah, I think you'll have better luck with an 11-pin adapter. I don't think a 5-pin one will work on the S6.

The best will be universal - 5 & 11 pins in one.

Define "fine". What resolution are you getting? 460P , 720p or 1080p? And what aspect ratio? IOW, does the picture fill the screen or do you have wide black bands or each side?
