Am considering purchasing a Motorola Razr i. I tend to text a lot and leave my phone on vibrate. So could someone who owns the phone please tell me what the vibrate alert pattern is like ( eg: my nokia => buzz-buzz-buzz (pause) buzz-buzz-buzz ) and/or whether you can change it to suit your preferences (a friend of mine claims he can use an app called chomp sms to do this on his S2. All help appreciated.
Hi there,
by default it´s a simple buzz-buzz. But there are al lot of apps to change that, e.g.:

Is it possible to assign a seperate ringtone for certain contacts? I have trawled through the user manual trying to find anything at on this but it shows nothing. I dont know whether this would require additional software to be installed or not so am looking for any pointers on this. I have tried to search on this subject but each time the results that come back are totally varied and dont mention this issue. Any help much appreciated

if you dont want extra software:
in the contact details, there is a field under mobile tel that says ringtone.
sadly you cant mute or set to vibrate only
but i think there is a prog (iirc phonealarm? someone verify on this please) that will do exactly that.
Yes. Phone alarm will do that. Doesn't do black list yet, but can also do separate tones for contacts SMS's..
Other alternatives....... Photo Contacts Pro (PocketX). Smartfilter Pro (Novosec),
But, as mentioned above, you can assign ringtones to specific contacts.
Hi Toufas, tha's exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks, if thats in the user guide, I must need better specs
i assigned specific ringtones to some of my contacts but its this morning did i realize that the default ringtone still applies whenever those people call.
i have a 6.1 rom. do you guys think this is the problem??
I can recommend Ringo. You can set ringtones to your categories if syncing with outlook, set up specific message tones and customise with your own mp3, wavs etc...
So does "Ringo" or any similar software allow us to create a category of contacts (personal, business) and assign each category a ringtone?
Also, I have recently switched to PocketPCs. I have a Tilt phone running 6.1 cooked ROM. I should say, Nokia phones give a much better profile and call management options than these phones, hands down! Nokia gave me a silent button I could use to mute the ringtone but let the call continue. This is very helpful in case you forgot to switch it to silent and the phone suddenly ring. You don't always have to ignore the call. Can HTC Tilt do something like this?
Also, one more thing I miss is the vibrate + distinct beep sound Nokia phones have. That beep is heard even when you are considerably away from the phone, very nice sound. So I want to create a vibrate profile on HTC Tilt with a sharp beep sound. Can this be done?
Sorry for so many questions in this thread, but simply did not want to create a new one.

My TyTN II used to have a Silence button when I was running Garmin's DK.3 rom... I do not know about his new roms, but since I've started running AthineOS, I have lost the silence button... dont know yet if I personally miss it, but it means that it does exist...
Hi all, I've been using my hero for a few months now and really loving it. Its a big big step up from my earlier nokia E51.
I had a constant complain with symbian, which I'm hoping can be solved on android. I want to be able to use my contacts nicknames. I should see the nickname when I get a call, I should be able to search contacts using just their nicks. But of course I'll have their full names entered in the DB.
Also, any way to give custom labels to multiple phone numbers, instead of the default work, mobile, home, etc? And any way to make these labels show up in the caller-id screen, instead of the actual phone number?
e.g. it should say " Dad - Delhi Office landline" instead of "John Doe - 123456789"
TIA
Happy new year to all
Doesn't anyone else care for nicknames?

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to change the defaut split pattern used for phone numbers in the Galaxy S (contacts, calls, etc).
Here in Brazil we use phone numbers just like in USA, following the pattern:
AAA XXXX-XXXX , or AA XXXX-XXXX or even only XXXX-XXXX
(AAA = Area code, and XXXX-XXXX = phone number).
But my phone automatically splits the numbers in a terrible way, like:
AAA-XXX-XXXXX, or AA-XXX-XXX-XX
Is that the default pattern for Europe? (I have the Euro I9000 unlocked model)
Does anyone know any means to change or even remove this split pattern?
Thank you sooo much!
Paulo
I would love to know this as well! Here in the Philippines we split cellphone numbers like this: 09XX-XXXX-XXX or 09XX-XXX-XXXX or something to that effect. The first 2 X digits are operator dependent. My friends who play with my phone always find it so odd and the obsessive compulsive in me doesn't like how it's displayed either!
Would love to find some sort of quick fix to this! Oddly enough, this only happens when I add contacts manually by typing in their numbers. The one's I added by just using the add to contacts option when they text me with a new number display as a single block of numbers instead! Not as bad as the odd splitting my phone does by default, but I'd still prefer splitting the numbers appropriately. It looks better that way in my humble opinion.
My Galaxy S is from Singapore.
Sorry for the bump.
But can anyone help us with this?
Is it CSC related?
Or maybe there is a secret code to set the pattern?
Thanks,
Paulo
Hello Everyone! I have the same problem of course, having bought a Brazilian unit GT-I9000B. On the Samsung Omnia, I managed to change that using SKTools. Is there a SKTools equivalent to fidle the SGS?
Thanks
Does anyone know of a good easily customisable widget that will show lost calls, recived emails/SMS`?
I have looked, but it takes time to try them all just to find out it was'nt what i wanted...
I need something that is easily skinable/or at least easy to change color/font etc
Do not need big icons, PLAIN text will suffice..
Have looked at executive assistant but it gets to... complicated..
Need it simple.. have also seen that some people use tasker to create such events/variables etc, but just seems to much of an hazzle, at least considering i flash my phone TO often
Anyone with got any tips... paid apps not a problem
eks:
Phone SMS Mail
1 3 6
See?.. just simple and plain
(Hmm.. seems the number did not correcly allign themselfs... you get the point )
I have also checked out the SMS unread count, but the icons are just to dull...
Anyone who can point me in the right direction regarding where i can find the icon.png's?
Big Dialer allows you to easily make phone calls with the big sleek looking dialpad buttons to dial phone numbers without having to squint!
Now you have the ability to Enable Voice Dialing! This feature allows you to check to enable/disable, so you can hear the buttons you're pressing as you dial, which is great if you have trouble seeing when you dial as it confirms what digit's you're really pressing.
Code:
windowsphone.com/s?appid=7cf0b981-2bac-e011-a53c-78e7d1fa76f8
good ,how can i Download it?
It's in the Marketplace.
A very good idea. Congratulations.
What i don't understand is why didn't you go for a metro look that would go well with the rest of the OS?
Wp7 has a very distinctive look, and when an app uses a different style it is immediately observable and very distracting.
First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who supported my program. I originally made this for my Mom and Grandma.
The reason I did not use metro styling, it was easier for my family to see the apps text big and bold. However, I do have another edition of big dialer coming that is completely free and for those without horrible vision, can use the metro styling which has been requested many times and really wanted to meet everyones wants/desires.
Which, if anyone has any questions, please let me know. Also, for WP7 users, if you can't wait for the new WP7 BIG Dialer and want it now but don't want to pay, ask me and I will send you the XAP for you to manually install and no payment required.
Remember to also look for I.T. Guy, a program to help service call tech's to perform repairs properly and SMS or Email invoices right from I.T. Guy to your customer immediately for payment (Payment modules on the way).
If you're a person that likes to BETA stuff, currently, Project: Job Track (not the final release name) lets you literally find jobs around you via GPS. All I can say for now...
Once again thank you everyone!!!

Thank you, I appreciate it. The free edition is almost out.
Add some exception handling it's closing a lot
First, thank you for your response and recommendations.
Second, unfortunately currently in the WP7 platform, it is EXTREMELY limited as to what you can do and actually out of our hands as we can't even create a cancel/dial button, only pre-set a name + number (to show who you're dialing) and make it Popup asking to dial but only cause the platform at this time does not allow it. It's extremely unfortunate as we can't even control the dial-pad size/look/feel except for 10 or so pre-set options using InputScope, which is the reason for the custom buttons but the whole reason for this specific App was to have huge buttons that were easily viewable for those who have issues seeing.
Third, as for the voice translation speaking, it may be sluggish as it currently grabs the voices via Internet and than streams it as output to your speaker phone. The previous version with the "English" speaking was very large as an App to have great quality audio that was embedded but too many complaints the app was too large, so we compromised and grab translations via the web.
Which the current method is getting updated as we are applying Speak Dial, where you literally speak and it dials what you said but also speaking (if enabled) out-loud the number prior to actually dialing and the keyboard does get a face-lift and I am sure many like yourself will be happy about .
Again thank you so much for your input, hopefully you'll like the update waiting to be accepted in the Marketplace .

notes:
the voice response is very sluggish and inconsistent.
I highly suggest using the default theme colors instead of images for the buttons.
The clear and dial buttons are too close together. I would suggest to have them separated on different corners, or use a swipe left action to clear.
I'm not sure if there is a limitation of the wp7 platform but if the call button could read out the full number and have a huge call/cancel button it would be very nice.
