[Q] Bravia Engine and Unlocked BL - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi,
I'm new to this whole Android thing, recently bought an Xperia T and looking to have a fiddle about with it.
My question is, I've read on these forums that if I unlock the bootloader, Bravia Engine will no longer work because I lose DRM. But if I unlock it, mess about with some custom ROMs, then relock the BL and update via Sony PC Companion, will Bravia work again?
Also, can I just flash any stock .ftf to re-lock the bootloader or does it have to be one to specifically re-lock?
I guess what I want to know is aside from voiding the warranty, will unlocking the BL do anything permanent and non-reversible to my phone?
thanks

If you are lucky you will have BE in movies ONLY.

Hmm, so just unlocking the bootloader screws up Bravia and means I might never get it working properly again even if I re-lock and return to stock firmware?
Guess I'll keep it locked for now, thanks
Rooting has no effect on it though, right?

Yes, sweetie, yes. Root itself does NOT threat your Bravia Engine. Its all start when you unlock your bootloader.

It's all good now. If you backup your TA partition first before you unlock the BL you can flash the keys back and BE2 will work again. You can read the tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234627

rooting isn't the problem, but unlocking the bootloader. luckily there is a way to root your phone without unlocking the BL, but keep in mind: you can't install custom firmware with a locked bootloader (only sony based ROMs or ROM-modifications)

If you unlock your bootloader then you lose the Bravia Engine, however Track id isn't in the same category as that and will be unaffected.
There are much better replacements to Track ID anyway in the Play Store.

all of that doesn't matter anymore though. SInce you can get your DRM keys back and your XZ's BL will be locked again once you flash back your own TA image.
So for now i am going only for root without unlocking BL

You can do what you want. Unlock the BL or not. If you backup your TA partition first you can do anything. As long as you backup your TA partition first before you unlock the BL. But if you really don't want to unlock the BL that is your call too.

Yes, maybe that's all he wants for now. Just letting the OP know that losing your DRM keys and BE2 not working anymore is yesterdays news. So the OP can do what he wants without the fear of losing the DRM keys and BE2 not working.
Thanks for your suggestion guys, since I am new to Sony so Just want to root for now and play around with stock ui, until i get bored
P.S. - Got my xperia Z last saturday , before that had Galaxy S2, and i have flashed it more than a 100 or 200 times till it went dead, dont remember.
There is a root method without unlocking your BL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368
I've tested this method with my locked BL, that works like a charm.

[Q] Bravia Engine - Is it worth it?

Hi, my bootloader is suddenly unlockable since the .244 firmware update from Sony. So my question is this: is it worth losing the Bravia Engine by unlocking my bootloader? Is the Bravia Engine really a feature worth having on the XZ and are there any substitutes?

If your Phone came from a carrier then it isn't unlockable regardless of the change in status.

Sad news :crying: thanks. XperienceD what's your take on Bravia anyway? Is it worth keeping a locked bootloader for Bravia Engine?
I unlocked my bootloader as soon as I got my phone. I would rather have an unlocked bootloader so I have the ability to flash custom roms and kernels then seen the colours a little brighter when watching videos and viewing pictures.

Yeah well the biggest downside to locked bootloader is no chance of AOSP roms :crying: luckily most of the Xperia's UI is pretty cool, particularly the Honami email, messaging and contacts. So after XperienceD's news about bootloader being locked if the handset came from a carrier, I can live with it for now... gonna try unlock it anyway

I'd prefer to keep it but would happily sacrifice it for the ability to be able to unlock my BL. You can try for nothing but if it does come from a carrier then I've yet to see anyone who has reported this change in status then go on to unlock it. I'll never have another Phone from a carrier that's for sure.
Is it worth?
Simply. Yes. That's my opinion.
Btw, I unlocked bootloader and I still have BE2, all these DRM keys. Is it normal?
Seems http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ is intermittently down tonight loaded the web page earlier but can't load it now. Will check it out tomorrow, my phone is from Vodacom so it's a carrier phone.. this will be an interesting test. Is it normal for Sonymobile website to be down? "The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later." Poor show if it is..
Can anyone confirm if you're getting an error on this link: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

It worked, unlocked my bootloader with a carrier issued handset I bought my phone from a dude when it was three months old. It came from Vodacom. It had the Vodafone logo splash screen when booting from stock and he showed me a photo of the registration screen at Vodacom when he picked it up. So I assume it was a carrier issued handset. Anyway, seems all is well now :highfive:
Bootloop on Sony logo after unlocking bootloader. What am I missing? Do I need to flash new .244 firmware and then flash custom rom?

I flashed .244 stock firmware in Flashtools and now it's fine. But I can't flash custom kernel, so I suppose that means my bootloader is still locked? But when I unlocked it, it said successful

Type *#*#7378423#*#* (service) in dialer.
Then open Service info > Configuration
Check "Rooting status"
if it says "Bootloader unlocked: Yes" guess what
if it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes" or something like this, your bl isn't unlocked

When I unlock my bootloader, I know I'll lose my sdcard content but will I still be able to boot into the rom (I'm using monx for LB/UB) or do I need to re-flash?
Success!!

Hey XperienceD, dunno how this happened. My bootloader changed from a status of unlock not allowed to unlock allowed after I flashed .244. Now I managed to unlock the bootloader, and it's a carrier phone from Vodacom in South Africa. Strange but true :victory:

[Q] How to backup TA, MAC and IMEI with unlocked BL?

Greetings to everyone
I have already unlocked BL & rooted my 4.3 xperia Z1 with CWM recovery installed... the camera and everything works fine
So, how to backup TA, MAC and IMEI with unlocked BL? I want to avoid any furthur losing possibility of them
Sorry If this a repeated question but I have searched a lot before posting this
thank you
You can't Backup your TA if you Unlocked your Bootloader. You lost your DRM keys permanently. You will not be able to re-lock you bootloader and you are not covered by your warranty. Sorry but you should read carefully before do anything.
Yeah, too late, you should have done this before the unlock....

oh.. I hope everything will still fine .. but I saw option in flashtool to relock BL.. it won't relock my phone ?? ... and what is the safe way to update my device firmware when 4.4 kitkat arrives to xperia z1 ??? and what are the risks now ?? what I must avoid and never do ?? any advices for me ???... sure it's better to stay one 4.3 without root rather than breaking my phone
thank you

Should be all fine but the safest way was backup TA first because if one day happen something on your phone you can't go via warranty.

You still losing your DRM keys so even if he does it's compromise, no x-reality, bionz engine and bravia.

This is not a problem, the FTFs will be upload here on XDA like for .290 and Custom Roms as well.

This is what we said already, the risk is if you brick the phone and the warranty will not cover that.

You don't have to avoid anything just read carefully everything when you try to do something. My advice is now to wait for the confirmed and safe way to root or update. In your position you already lost the safest way so I will root, update or flash custom roms to enjoy the phone but remember, it's your own risk and responsability.
Ive done the same, came from HTC.....so I will still have all tge features unless I flash say cm11 and try to go back to a Sony based rom?

Some [Q] about Bootloader Unlock [Xperia T]

So I want to unlock my phone Bootloader and install a fresh AOSP 4.4
Mine current android version is 4.3 Jellybean ( 9.2.A.1.199) and on the sony bootloader unlock site when I insert the dial number it says "Root status ...... Allowed "
I rooted it today ( havent installed recovery buy I can do it later)
My questions :
Can my phone brick while trying to unlock the bootloader?
Do I need to download the latest version or the 4.1 version of android ?
All this I'm doing 'cus my 1 year warrantly has ended today so Why not ? :good:
Don't think the bootloader unlock procedure has much risk of bricking your phone... especially if you use the official Sony Bootloader Unlock method. But you may want to read up on backing up your TA before unlocking the bootloader.

I'd also suggest backing up your TA first. It's all in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
If you unlock your bootloader, you lose your Bravia Engine. You can get it back when you lock bootloader, but only if you restore your TA. If you don't have this backup, BE is most likely lost forever.

Thanks for the help !
And if I would like to restore to stock do I need to relock the bootloader ?

Nice!
If you want to get your phone back to stock, just flash a stock FTF. Flashtool does not require the bootloader to be relocked for that.
Unless you mean "stock" for warranty purposes, or selling the phone... then I guess I'd say yes to relocking the bootloader, after flashing a stock FTF (and also restoring the TA, of course)
Thanks 4 The Info )))

Why is gone ? I don't understand why Sony delete the Bravia Engine after unlocking of bootloader.
Unlocking your bootloader means removing your DRM security keys, which BE2 needs in order to work.
They don't remove your BE2 itself. It's still there but won't work...
The TA partition gets wiped and this contains the needed files and keys
There is not much you can do and the reason from Sony is unknown..
