Virtual Home Button - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I'm not sure if it is already discussed or not but I couldn't find it through the search function and some manual browsing through the forum. Are there any modification that can be made so I can have a virtual home button on my galaxy note n7000 like the one on Google Nexus. Thanks
My Device: Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
Rom: [AOSP][JB][4.2.2][JDQ39] SuperNexus 2.0 - N7000 - BUILD 3

While not free this looks like it should work (I have never used it though so no promises). It is called Virtual Button Bar and has good reviews on the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=opotech.virtualbuttonbartrial&hl=en
I thought there was a free one too but I don't remember what it is called.
*Edit: I found the other App, it is called Button Savior and requires 4.1 but not root. More information can be found here:

Try soft key enabler from app store. It's free and basically does adds the virtual home screen without any flashing.

Thanks man. This is exactly what I want. Cannot describe on how happy I am now. lol
btw, the Button Savior quite good option though.

If you want something like button savior and not pure virtual button experience like nexus try out LMT pie control. Just search xda. It's better and has more options than button savior.

This is only possible if you were to build stock rom from source.

Well, basically I need to edit the android-policy.jar, framework.jar and framework-res.apk, then add the CMscreenshot.apk in system/app and the screenshot file in system/bin.
But I personally lost a bit with the code to edit the files.
One example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692080 but only and option screenshot.
Two example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176927 but not as a port to s5830
three example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845603 but extras options and only power menu without screenshot
You mean you want to add screen shot option to power menu?
Insert witty sentence here
Yes, and add the submenu to reboot options
Not very easily. Just use power toggles from the play store. It uses the same method music players use for controlling music from the notification bar to allow you to toggle most power options.

Good idea!
But my biggest problem is the lack of this type of programming language.

Well we can easily port stuff from cm7
Look at the all in one mods by parasmi
He ported the toggles
And lockscreens from cm7

For somebody with experience guess it will be easy, I personally I have it harder.
But I will continue comparing code and learning.
Well I managed to use the code [MOD] ALL-in-1 Mod for Stock Firmwares (XWKT7 and DDKQ8) **LOCKSCREEN MUSIC CONTROL** to put in ktm, but still need to add the screenshot and return the data network option.
I have only compared code, then I have done a copy and paste
If someone wants to try here it is:
EPM_CM_KTM
Full credit for parasmi, Thanks

Then you didn't follow the instructions properly
You need the tablet ui trigger for xposed framework.
I guarantee you it works...his instructions aren't very good...but it works...
dotn use the 213mod in OP
There is one posted in the last few pages of thread

I don't think so. You need to have 4.0 and up, or you can install Cyanmobile(2.3.8), or use Button Savior or something similar.
EDIT: I forgot, some kind of soft keys can be activated in cm7 when selecting tablet mode(maybe the option has a little bit different name).

Alternative
I looked for the same thing but read many threads and it seams there is no way to bring ICS nav bar (or something similar) to a GB rom.
The easiest way is to flash at least an ICS rom on your HD2 (like the one from Tytung) and use one of those 3 methods :
1/ Soft buttons
Use the app "Soft buttons" CAUTION : it's permanent, the only way to remove the nav bar is to re-flash your rom link
2/ Ultimate Dynamic Navbar
Use the app "Ultimate Dynamic Navbar" (link)
3/ GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys
Use GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys (link)
In your particular case, since your are attached to MIUI, you should try MIHOME (MIUI based launcher) on your ICS rom or try to find an ICS based MIUI rom.
Good luck

if it is for stock ROM i will ask why you would need to do that?
I have the same question, is a bit tricky to press home and power button to take a Screenshot everytime, and im om Stockrom becuase i like it =P
i have a rooted SIII Mini, there is a way to add the Screenshot menu ?
Yes it is possible but no one's gonna bother with that cause most of us are using Vanilla version of Android.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=how to add screenshot to power menu 4.1.2
just used the search and this is what i found
i can help you to do it, but i won't be adding this feature to any of my work
It is hard to make flashable zip or addon to our device specially all stock rom base?,i think it is a good feature.

Unable to update gear

I rooted my gear and installed twrp. I am unable to check for updates via the gear manager. It says "Your Gear has been modified. Software updates are not available." How can I remove this status so I can update normally again while still keeping root?
I don’t think you can upgrade your gear ota if you already install twrp

Well that sucks. How can I update gear manager and the gear then? Copy the rom to the gear?
The null_ ROM always has the most up to date base. So, just install null_ and you're off and running. Opens up much more functionality as well. Current null_ version is 19.

I have a NULL backup but I found the screen too small to take any real advantage from it so I restored my stock backup. I know I can use the touchwiz launcher to go into stock with NULL but I didn't like that the button didn't bring me back to the home screen and all the extra applications it added that I couldn't uninstall because they were system apps. Maybe I should just flash back to pure stock and take twrp off or something although I would like twrp in case something gets messed up.

I think you can do some editing to remove the home button remap. I saw it somewhere in here in the forum but I was too lazy to do it and just restored stock.

Just reflash the rom and untick the home button remap mod in aroma.. its so easy.. less effort then flashing stock.

I would at this point if it took me out of custom status but from the research I have done it doesn't look like that's possible unless I unroot and install stock. I guess I will just wait until the next major update and then flash it back then.
Download stock rom from the dedicated thread for stock roms and flash it with odin. As long as you dont root it/flash custom recovery you should be able to updata via gear manager.
