I rooted my gear and installed twrp. I am unable to check for updates via the gear manager. It says "Your Gear has been modified. Software updates are not available." How can I remove this status so I can update normally again while still keeping root?
I don’t think you can upgrade your gear ota if you already install twrp

Well that sucks. How can I update gear manager and the gear then? Copy the rom to the gear?
The null_ ROM always has the most up to date base. So, just install null_ and you're off and running. Opens up much more functionality as well. Current null_ version is 19.

I have a NULL backup but I found the screen too small to take any real advantage from it so I restored my stock backup. I know I can use the touchwiz launcher to go into stock with NULL but I didn't like that the button didn't bring me back to the home screen and all the extra applications it added that I couldn't uninstall because they were system apps. Maybe I should just flash back to pure stock and take twrp off or something although I would like twrp in case something gets messed up.
ya I have the same problem I dont like the fact that if u press the side button it doesn't go to the home screen do u know how u could fix that

I think you can do some editing to remove the home button remap. I saw it somewhere in here in the forum but I was too lazy to do it and just restored stock.

Just reflash the rom and untick the home button remap mod in aroma.. its so easy.. less effort then flashing stock.

I would at this point if it took me out of custom status but from the research I have done it doesn't look like that's possible unless I unroot and install stock. I guess I will just wait until the next major update and then flash it back then.
Download stock rom from the dedicated thread for stock roms and flash it with odin. As long as you dont root it/flash custom recovery you should be able to updata via gear manager.

thanks... i don't use sdcard so i tried the adb sideload and worked perfect and didn't lose root using voodoo ota root keeper
Any reason why this wouldn't work with rooted stock rom and stock recovery? All system apps in TB are unfrozen as well.
Also, what's the worst that could happen? It errors out?

Did the update, but can't update any existing apps through Play Store or download any new ones.
Get the error:

What did I do wrong? Anyone else getting this error? Easy fix?

Not sure, but try to remove your google account, and re-add it back. That MAY solve the issue

I am on MDL rooted with a bunch of mods/tweaks/custom kernel. How do I update to MF9? Also does this include the radio/modem or is this just the ROM?

When you Odin the file, everything gets updated - modem, kernel, and build. What I did was first Odin the MDL package, reboot into stock recovery and flash the MF9 update and reboot, and then perform factory data reset. Everything is working smoothly.
Thanks for this.
However, I personally, see no reason to update?
I have my phone ALMOST the way I want.
A huge feature for me, would be, to ENABLE apps/widgets on a passworded lockscreen.
This is a huge inconvenience as far as I am concerned.

Go to this post, download CF's auto root, that will both root your MF9 + revert your recovery to stock.
Hy everyone! I am very satisfied with my phone but I have one small problem.. When I download a new app the phone, or I am in the process of installing, the phone get very laggy for a couple of seconds and the apps on my home screen reload. They disappear and reappear in a second or two. Why is that happening? Also when I go into apps or widgets it gets a bit laggish when scrolling around.. Is that normaln for a stock ROM? I`m on stock JB,rooted.. And I did a factory reset after update to JB and manually installed all the apps..

Rolling back is not an option.. Do you have a ROM or kernel to recommend?
It's normal; the homescreen is just refreshing so it displays the shortcut for the app. (it auto-places one on install)
And about the lag, download "Advanced Task Killer" and kill the apps/processes, or use the stock one. ("Task Manager")

The task manager won't get you anywhere. Android handles processes not like crappy windows and the task manager thing is unnecessary as hell. Search for it.
For the rom/ kernel thing try it out yourself . There are many good and stable ROMs on here.

Ok so i just go the galaxy gear i have already been doing alot of research on the watch. I have been debating if i should root it or not cause NULL rom looks really good for what i want to do with it..
Can some one help me find a way to back up the gear if i decided down the road to go completely back to stock?
has any one had any problems running NULL?
would you recommend doing it?
And where is the best guide to follow?
Very easy, it does require you to root the device. Once rooted, download TWRP for Galaxy Gear and flash it using ODIN. There, you can create a backup of your rooted stock firmware.
Another thing you can do is download the official firmware from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463743), and then flash that using ODIN, that will return you to 100% stock without root.
Good luck, I'm having tons of fun modifying my Gear, been able to increase the volume on it during calls.

I'm still trying to decide myself. I don't wanna lose any of the watch functions though if I flash null
Update : I think I will try null when I get home. Seems there's some work around for missing function like double tap for setting. Can't wait.

I might create a thread later on today if my account allows me to. It's the same concept as the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 of modifying the Default_gain.config file in the root files. Found in "/system/etc/" folder.
I got root access but stopped there....all my devices bar my note 2(for G Gear reasons) are rooted with custom ROMs but I'm not sure if I should install Null or leave as is...I guess it is a question of opinions but is it worth doing? What are the top things you can now do that were not possible before, which are also worth doing/practical on a wearable? Thanks for any responses....I need reasons to go the next step!!!

I didn't like the rom personally. I couldn't use the Internet because my phone don't have bluetooth Internet or whatever that option is. The dial pad for Nova is all bunched together making the call button untouchable. So for me it's pretty much useless
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

I think the rom is like something you'd use on a phone. Gives you a notification bar. Internet (if have a way to use it) playstore. Both Nova and touchwiz launchers.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I was on the fence about rooting at first, but I jumped and flashed null. Let me tell you I am so glad I did. Battery life and more options is great! And knowing it is super easy to go back to stock is awesome. Although I don't see a reason to. Null with free fall theme is the way to go.

Edit when i click the widget it fc's touchwiz
I had trouble restoring some MI9 system backups to MJ5. When I tried to restore them via TB, the process would just hang or say "The app is from a different ROM version..." or something like that. Maybe the problem you are having is because the apk is from a different build then the one you are running.

I would if I could, but I'm back on MI9 (warrantied my first N3 and they shipped me one with MI9).
If your rooted, maybe you can flash an MJ5 Rom (that hasn't been debloated) w/SS and backup the apk from it. Flash back to your stock nandroid and install the backup apk.
im thinking i need the Odex file for both

OP have you solved the issue yet?
I am having the same problem
With the impending kitkat update I was wondering what steps I should take when it comes to updating my rooted and tweaked phone.
I've done the following:
- installed Odin
- backed up the original rom
- rooted the phone
- installed titan backup (and removed a ton of samsung applications, including knox - backing them up before removing)
- installed wanam xposed to make some tweaks to the samsung UI
- used wanam xposed to fake the system status to set it to official
The last point means that I should get the update when it comes. But since this is the first time i've bothered to root and tweak an android device (it's my first non-nexus device, had to remove a lot of the samsung bloat) I have no idea what will happen if I let the samsung update go through.
Will it screw up? Will it wipe out all my changes done through titan backup and wanam xposed? Will it wipe out odin?
Any information will be greatly appreciated
I'd say either wait until a developer brings a 4.4 ROM to our device or go completely stock when the update arrives if you really can't wait.
