Hello folks,
As a part of idiotic ""data security"" my organization decided to block all USB connection from and to mobile devices.
Till recently, usb PTP mode (camera) connection worked and now they've blocked it as well.
The question is, whether there is a way to change the GS3 ports which it uses for usb connection so the computer will recognize it as something different then media device or camera but still will let me move photos and files from and to the computer ?
Thank you so much in advance.
YA.
Sorry but you're posting on the wrong section. You should post your questions at the q&a section but I think I can solve your problem. Just use airdroid from play store or use Kies air. But for me the best and safest way is to use Dropbox. Even though I'm not a pro experienced hacker but I know there is no way to change the function of the USB cable. Try Google it and there's no other answer

Hi,
Using a self-powered USB hub, is there a way to make the XDA to read/write to a USB flash-disk ? (without using a PC).
Thx in advance
Dont think so, usb uses a master/slave type of protocol, both the hub and the xda are seen as slaves and cannot talk to one another as far as I know.
yep thats true when it comes to usb
there is 1 master and all other devices is seen as
peripheral devices and cant access anybody but the master
which is pretty much always the pc
suppose that the xda could be changed so it could act as master
but it would require mayor changed to it's usb interface
and would require that it only tried to be master when no other master was present on the chain
more about usb read here

Thx mates,
the idea came to my mind after seeing how easy to use flash disks and the silly need to get a PC or laptop to move its data to the XDA. May be in future some one will come up with a "22pin-female USB" cable to access flash disks .... I understand of course there will be special s/w on the XDA side to manage this operation
or even better ... a USB port in XDA III
yes sooner or later it's bound to become std that the pda can be master i seem to recall that some brand of pda's can but i forget which ones it is
also a possible way to do it would be a backpack
or even a odd SDIO card (odd because it would have to be a bit thick if it had to have a std usb connector )
Hey guys today my second USB port stopped working for ODIN.
The front two on my PC don't work for it and I got 4 left on the back, is there any way to solve this issue?
uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers then rebooting has always fixed it for me. if that isn't working i've got no clue. sorry i couldn't be more helpful i guess.
Yea I know but same problem.
I'm anxiously saving money for a GS2 and Netbook.

also have the same problem with my old pc, two front usb don't work with odin, but work with anything else.
I've had this same problem, and I haven't been able to fix it. But now I've switched to Ubuntu and Heimdall.
I don't know if this will work for you, but this USBDeview looks like it might do the trick: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
I assume you are using Windows, and if you are, there is one trick that I have used in the past to fix other devices. This *might* work for you. Try removing the non present devices from device manager. In order to do this, you need to Google how to view Nonpresent devices in device manager. This trick will show you every device that has every been plugged into each USB port. You can then go in and remove the drivers that were previously installed for your phone on that port. Whenever you remove the nonpresent device, next time it is plugged in, the computer will think that it has never been plugged into that USB port before.
Hope that helps!
Im serious about the new cable. I had a problem with the default usb cable before until a friend gave me his mt4g usb and never had a problem again. I think its a data miscommunication with the t959 stock usb. I lost any ODIN connection on all ports until I switched. Try it. Youll see.

That's actually what USBDeview does.
Id love to post this in the development forum but not enuf posts so... I flashed steeldroid the other day and I love it, especialy with the GB launcher I added. Problem is, I can't get it to come out of charge only mode when hooking to the computer. It never gives me the option in the notification bar. Is there any other way to change it? Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help

Try a different cord, usb port, or computer. It sounds like it's not establishing a connection

Tried 3 cables. Charges fine. I have all the current drivers and everything on the computer.

I had a similar problem. My phone would not show it is charging past 95% but it would still increase the charge. I am waiting for the newest update before i dig into it myself.

I've got a similar issue on SD3 v3. I get the connect choices (PC, mass media, media sync, charge only) but i can't get mass media mode to connect on my windows 7 x64 machine. I get the bonk when the computer detects its connected, but don't see anything in device manager. Found a work around at least for the moment, put it in PC mode, and used the moto software, I can get into my internal card.
right, see i dont even get the connect options when i plug in. i am thinking it is something in the rom because it worked fine with the first cable i tried just before i flashed it. i know i could just restore to the nandroid backup of stock and do what i need to do but i dont wanna do that if i dont have to id rather make it work. is there a specific service or apk that controls the usb connect options that i can check?
Are you guys using the cord that came with the phone?
Yes all of my cables are motorola cables. The one i use for the computer is the cable that csme with the D3

Hi All,
I've recently bought a dock with power and usb port, but unfortunately and for some reason, my USB OTG cable doesn't work. Anyway since my dock will be connected to the PC, OTG might not be needed.
I need a program for windows to control my galaxy note through USB. I don't want to see the phone display on my computer, I want to use the laptop's mouse and keyboard to control the phone as if am connect through OTG. Ideas?
refer HERE
I have already searched the forum for a solution and I couldn't find one. VNC or screen cast are not what I am looking for. The idea here is to transfer control as if you're connected through OTG, without the need to stream the display to the PC...

dude, no offense, there are better ways and apps for the same thing, there's too much effort to go through with what you've posted.
but actually, I'm also curious as to the OP's question
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
Airdroid is pretty good for this over wifi... Just allocates a port under your ip address and you connect through browser.

Sorry, just read your post properly, this ain't what you're after at all I should probably go back to bed.

Hi there,
Longtime lurker and I wanted to post this in the development thread but the post counter wont let me but I am hoping someone might be able to help.
I am running Nik_Project_X and it seems I have developed a problem with my USB connection. Now, I have done a search and scoured the internet and the threads that sound similar don't seem to have a resolution.
When I plug in the USB cable, I get no promt on the phone to choose the connection, my (Win7 Home) PC pops up the unrecognized device message and in device manager the item is listed under USB as Unknown Device.
I have uninstalled all HTC Sync / Android SDK / Adobe Air and reinstalled the drivers a number of times and always the same result. I have made sure my Norton Antivirus / firewall is off. USB Debug is on and Fastboot is off. I've tried updating the drivers and pointing to the folder but I just get told that the drivers are the right ones and up to date?!
The phone wont mount in recovery either and I am basically at a loss... other than this issue the phone seems to work perfectly. Im thinking I should just change my ROM but thought I would ask here just in case anyone had the same problem or a simple fix?
Thanks guys! *crosses fingers*
I've had this issue, it was a hardware problem though. any chance your USB port is broken? try pulling the cable towards you with the screen facing you.
Try cleaning the USB port
Worked for me!
