Hi there,
Longtime lurker and I wanted to post this in the development thread but the post counter wont let me but I am hoping someone might be able to help.
I am running Nik_Project_X and it seems I have developed a problem with my USB connection. Now, I have done a search and scoured the internet and the threads that sound similar don't seem to have a resolution.
When I plug in the USB cable, I get no promt on the phone to choose the connection, my (Win7 Home) PC pops up the unrecognized device message and in device manager the item is listed under USB as Unknown Device.
I have uninstalled all HTC Sync / Android SDK / Adobe Air and reinstalled the drivers a number of times and always the same result. I have made sure my Norton Antivirus / firewall is off. USB Debug is on and Fastboot is off. I've tried updating the drivers and pointing to the folder but I just get told that the drivers are the right ones and up to date?!
The phone wont mount in recovery either and I am basically at a loss... other than this issue the phone seems to work perfectly. Im thinking I should just change my ROM but thought I would ask here just in case anyone had the same problem or a simple fix?
Thanks guys! *crosses fingers*
I've had this issue, it was a hardware problem though. any chance your USB port is broken? try pulling the cable towards you with the screen facing you.
Try cleaning the USB port
Worked for me!

Ah-ha! Thanks both. This seems to have done the trick. I have been tearing my hair out so I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I've been having USB driver issues for a while now with my captivate (On serendipity 4.2 right now, finally decided to try to get to the root of this issue and update); I've used the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe (and I am on 32 bit Windows XP SP3), and have always received a "USB Device has malfunctioned" message whenever I have tried to plug my Captivate in.
My computer has 2 USB Ports; one of them has a USB 1.0 hub plugged in (which has a keyboard & Plantronics Microphone plugged in as well) and the other has a Logitech mouse. I've tried both of the main USB ports, as well as the hub. The hub's been plugged in when installing and uninstalling (I'm trying to give as many details as possible in the hopes that one of these might trigger a red flag).
Anybody know what the problem might be? Maybe I've been uninstalling the drivers incorrectly? (I've done it through device manager & restarting the computer before reinstalling)
EDIT: No Kies on this computer, has never been installed; I have been mounting the device via the notifications menu but it still gives me a malfunction error.
Hmmm.. You've done everything that I would try as well...
At this stage I can't really say it's anything specific... Have you tried it on any other computers by any chance? Or got it working before?

Should mention that I got it working by turning on USB Debugging mode on after installing the drivers, then plugging the device in, and after that it began to function as normally.
So is it working now or not? Sorry, the latest post is a bit confusing...
I think that's a known issue. I usually can not get my computer to recognize my captivate without enabling debugging

Yes, it is working 100% as it should be.
Hey guys today my second USB port stopped working for ODIN.
The front two on my PC don't work for it and I got 4 left on the back, is there any way to solve this issue?
uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers then rebooting has always fixed it for me. if that isn't working i've got no clue. sorry i couldn't be more helpful i guess.
Yea I know but same problem.
I'm anxiously saving money for a GS2 and Netbook.

also have the same problem with my old pc, two front usb don't work with odin, but work with anything else.
I've had this same problem, and I haven't been able to fix it. But now I've switched to Ubuntu and Heimdall.
I don't know if this will work for you, but this USBDeview looks like it might do the trick: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
I assume you are using Windows, and if you are, there is one trick that I have used in the past to fix other devices. This *might* work for you. Try removing the non present devices from device manager. In order to do this, you need to Google how to view Nonpresent devices in device manager. This trick will show you every device that has every been plugged into each USB port. You can then go in and remove the drivers that were previously installed for your phone on that port. Whenever you remove the nonpresent device, next time it is plugged in, the computer will think that it has never been plugged into that USB port before.
Hope that helps!
Im serious about the new cable. I had a problem with the default usb cable before until a friend gave me his mt4g usb and never had a problem again. I think its a data miscommunication with the t959 stock usb. I lost any ODIN connection on all ports until I switched. Try it. Youll see.

That's actually what USBDeview does.
Ok i have looked to find a resolution to this problem.. but have not found it anywhere.. I really apologize if this has been already asked and moderators be nice as I have seen how "firm" some ppl have been with posting in the wrong place.
My question is i cannot connect my Galaxyi896 phone to my computer because it states the multimedia controller and video controller is not there(Gives Code 28)... I am using windows 7 64 bit and i have downloaded the drivers but am still getting this message.. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated..
Again sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been asked already...

What's your computer recognizing your phone as in device manager? What do you have your USB settings set to in development?

To be honest i don't think its the phone... bcuz i am able to connect it to my labtop and it seems to work its just the computer does not pick this up.. Anything and everything else works on the computer other than my phone...
Have you tried to change USB cables? The one I got from ATT died fairly quickly, after I replaced it, my phone connected again to my computer.

The cable i have is the original samsung cable and as mentioned earlier when connecting it to my labtop it works... I have been reading up a bit on other forums and i think it has to do with my computer not being able to recognize the device.. hopefully i can find something useful and post it here to help anybody else. if anyone else got any ideas, please share...
I plugged my HTC One into my computer tonight in hope of transferring some songs across to it, but it comes up saying it is not recognized, i have tried uninstalling htc sync and the htc drivers, tried older versions of both, tried turning usb debugging on and off and also tried restoring my pc to an earlier point but none of this seems to work. Please if anyone can help i would be so grateful.
Check what it shows as in Device Manager. Also try downloading the driver installer from here: www.adbdriver.com
Managed to get it working, for some reason the usb cable will only charge the phone now, it wont transfer data. Thanks for the help though

This happened to 2 people I know and myself. My phone wouldn't charge when on, and would not connect to the computer at all. Not even charging. I tried new cables, different ports, but nothing worked. I sent it away for repair. I suspect it could be hardware failure somewhere as this is happening to a few people now. I would advise you to get it looked at. Still waiting on mine to be returned.
So I've run into a weird issue that was happening with my Atrix HD the last few days of its life too and now over to the note on my laptop.
I know this is probably a more computer specific problem, as it's recognized on my desktop but I'm running outta ideas here so maybe someone can help?
I've been flashing and rooting and all that jazz since android was released so I know how to work it and my thinkpad was accepting mtp/android connections as recently as september. I unlocked my Atrix HD bootloader and all that but couldn't get the phone to accept the twrp so eventually I just gave up because it was just a stop gap phone.
But now with my new Note 3, I can plug the phone to the laptop and it'll charge but it doesn't bring up the MTP notification (all my androids do this now)
I've checked device manager, it's not even an unknown device in the list..so weird.
Anyone run into this issue before? I know it's not really phone specific but yeah.
thanks in advance
Are you using it on a USB 3.0 port? My home pc only recognizes mine if it's plugged into USB 2.0. Fought this same fight last night myself. Good luck.

Do you guys have BC 1.1 enabled on your machines? If so that's why the 3.0 port doesn't work.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
to both of you, my thinkpad (for some awful reason) doesn't have usb 3.0, so no there isn't any USB 3.0 issues.
Literally plug it into my laptop, and nothing. no response from the computer at all not even in device manager, just starts charging as if the phone was plugged into a low voltage socket or something.
baffling.
works absolutely fine on my desktop, but I don't have all my adb and sdk tools set up the way I like them on there.
I have no idea.
ERR edit that it just started working :/ weirdd
Verizon note 3 here - same issue.
Do you guys have any programs that's suppose to charge devices faster with usb? It has to be software related on your laptop

To everyone with this problem, you have to specifically download the Note 3 drivers from Samsung
samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-N900VZWEVZW
I was having the same problem, but now both Kies and manual usb file transfer work perfectly on Windows 8
I have same problem here as well ?? its not reconizing my phone in usb 3.0 and i have the newest drives as well for note 3 gn 9005
got it working
Had the same problem after trading in handset, maybe there is some kind of hardware identifier messing things up for usb?
I removed (uninstalled and deleted) drivers for usb, including for hub then reinstall hub drivers followed by reinstall driver option in Kies3 to install samsung drivers. This got everything working.

NOOOO its easy! thats too much work. All you have to do is dial *#0808# and click mtb+adb and that should solve the problem for everyone. If that doesn't click on something else lol but thats what I did.
Hope this helps someone :good:

Your going to mess your phone up some kind of bad playing with those settings if you don't know what your doing. Also please don't recommend doing any of that without a trustworthy source because you can cause another person to mess up their phone as well.
The Note 3 does NOT support BC 1.1. That's what "Fast Charge" or whatever they call it is. Your phone will not use that connection so there is no workaround, just disable the BC 1.1 function.

Yes I stand corrected however I always mess with these settings in order to unlock 90% of the gsm galaxy lineup. This is just a different way of mounting your phone to the computer at least that is what I was told and have been doing for a while. I have tried all the methods on the note 3 and so far no problem. I have been using my phone like this for a while without any hiccups and I had this usb problem since day one on my SAMSUNG laptop so I tried this method which worked. You can easily switch back to the same setting but once again you might be right about the messing up your phone part. FYI MTP just stands for media trasnfer protocal I think so I went with it after a little research.
Just letting everyone know what worked for me no harm done

I tried installing the drivers from samsung with no luck and then tried this and no luck either. GOD DAMNIT! Why is google making it harder and harder to do this ****? Why can't it be as simple as moving files to another other usb drive like it used to be.
IT works!!it actually works..
what i did was,,download kies 3,supported kies for note 3, and go to Tools tab, and see the option "reinstall device driver" dont unplug your note 3,,and voila!!just wait a while, and see how the kies recognize ur note 3..
Android3220 method works for me using Note 3, Windows and Kies. Thank ypu.

Do you plug it in USB port 3.0 or in 2.0? Mine, either port are not working
Try using a USB hub,,, 2.0 or 3.0.... this will work......
Go to device manager then to USB find the Samsung driver uninstall. Plug your note 3 in then your system will see your note 3 and reinstall your drivers. Then your good to go.
