Please help - t-mo g1 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I had dug out my old HTC G1 and was trying out the new roms. I was running on 2.3.4 I believe and before flashing anything I had made a Nandroid backup. After flashing couple of Roms i didn't like them and I tried to flash a specific one recommended by someone and after flashing my phone was stuck on the G1 screen and nothing after that.
So I went back into recovery and tried to flash the rom again and it didn't work, then I tried another rom which had previously worked and that one didn't boot up either and finally I tried to restore from Nandroid and that didn't work either, phone is still stuck on G1 screen as of right now.
I am attaching a picture of the Hboot and SPL etc if thats any help, but if someone could help me out it would be great I would hate to have this phone just be a paper weight.
Thanks again!
EDIT*
Guys the two posts that are in reply to this thread by me are from a different thread where I had originally reported my concerns, I have included them in this thread so in case anyone else is running into similar issues they can possibly obtain something useful from them.

Re: [ROM][4.0.4][29.01.13] BananaSandwich v0.2 - first smooth & fast ICS ROM (CM9 bas
If you were following the full directions in the banana bread thread then you would be at least attempting to use cmtd, but not a requirement. Yes you should update radio and SPL, as well as flash amonra recovery, no need to unroot. Just search out ezterrys thread in the developers section titled 2708+ update, and follow all steps there, even will find a link for amonra.
Search out cmtd if you want to learn more, not required hardly ever but can be nice. Also you can repartition SD when ever you want, no unroot needed for that, if you have further questions I suggest not leaving them in this unrelated thread as respect to developer
Edit, I see you already have another thread in the works, post any question there and someone will help, chances are the cmtd did work when flashing bannanabread which would make sense if you cant restore nandroid as partitions changed. Also note you need to do a full wipe, preferably a super wipe or fast boot -w in between ROM flashes, and yes even when restoring a nandroid

1. Flash this: http://www.mediafire.com/?upf6u8m0zb70ag5 then full wipe and reboot
http://www.mediafire.com/?a3ay0gxvfj9y8
2. flash radio 2.22.27.08, reboot
3. flash hboot0013d, reboot
4. flash recovery-ra-dream-v1.7.0-automtd.zip reboot
make sure you have partitioned sdcard (swap, sd-ext - I recommend ext4)
then follow instructions from ROM topic
I'm sure it will work

Yea the links are down in that thread and banana gave me the links for specifically running bananabread rom, but im a bit confused that if i do use the automtd is that going to cause problems if I decide to change the rom from bananabread?
also there is another link that someone posted above (rooting guide in sense) and I was wondering if i followed that would that resolve anything...
going from having too little information now i have too much information and am confused as to which path to choose, right about right now I wish i was just prescribing a patient some medicine lol
thanks for your continuous help and i hope you can help me figure this out!

If youre around in a couple hours (3hrs?) Ill be at a computer and can get you the images needed and walk you through it, other wise just make sure you read before flashing firmwafre.

Need help for MT3G

Hey all, I need some serious help for my Mytouch3G. My MT3G just stays at boot screen all the time now every time I flash a custom rom. The last rom that worked for me was Super D 1.6 blk and other roms before that. I don't know what's wrong now, I tried using my Nandroid restore, wiped everything, other roms. I even tried re-rooting, so I had to go back to stock (which worked so I know it's not bricked).
I know this is the G1 Q&A but I since MT3G is compatible with most roms I posted here.
Also, I can boot into recovery and fastboot. Please help? All I want now is to go back to Super D 1.6 .
Try re-rooting the phone.
you probably dont have the latest radio ,and (or) spl, also make sure you wipe before flashing.
Do you have apps on sd card? If you do - you may need to reformat your EXT, regular wipe doesnt to it. And yes, you do need correct SPL and radio.
Good luck.
I would also try posting in the correct forum next time. This is the Dream forum, I don't care how close they are in specs and such, this is the dream forum. There is a magic forum for you to try out next time

You should wipe via Amon_Ra when going rom to rom and wipe before using your backups.
There is no reason for foul language either

Lets do this! Gloves are off and I am going to 2.2.... help! Rogers

So, the only thing holding me back was voiding the warranty and the fact I have a rogers phone (build EPE54B).... so I think I have to flash the build to the one that matches the update?
Sooooo if anyone wants to point me in the safest, easiest direction... I would appreciate it... and dos and don't would be appreciated as well. I am new to the phone an android, so feel free to dumb it down.
Does the build actually mean anything? What happens once I change it... and official updates come out? I am going to cut the grass... and then root, so help me out (preferably someone that is on rogers and has done this)
thx in advance! Froyo or Brick, here I come!
had a long day with chores and family day.... but I am back at it, first tutorial down and it seems solid...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
onward!
Let me know how you make out. I'm on Rogers as well and am debating rooting.
Just looking at the stickies in General section would save you from opening yet another thread on the subject
Follow this until rooted:

Follow the guide for rooted N1s from here:

Let me know how it goes for you.
I am on Rogers and experienced EXTREME instability the moment I flashed the Froyo radio. My phone would crash randomly and frequently.
I suspect it was a problem with my hardware and have returned the phone and am waiting for a new one.

thx jack, I appreciate it.... sorry for the thread... but in my experience... it is easier having your hand held by someone experienced.... then assuming I am following the right one, lol.... so I follow that entire thread to go from rogers to whatever build I need? heh
I will try this in approx 2 hours.... when the yard work is done!
early quick question, when I go to "CyanogenMod"
it takes me to a thread, but I do not see the download, what am I not seeing? heh
I am at this part
Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img
it says cannot load image recovery? thx
well everything was working great up until this point, tried it 100 times, heh... so now I sit and wait for guidance? thx
Mr.Kakarot, have you put the .img in the same folder as fastboot? Or, alternatively, if fastboot is in your PATH, you won't have this problem.
i renamed the image to recovery.img and that seemed to work? I will continue after supper!

followed that first thread to a T and it worked out... had 2 minor stalls but I got through it... I am doing this stuff off and on, thx for that thread... this is going to be a STUPID question I am sure... but following that first thread, what have I done? unlocked, rooted and installed google add ons? phone looks awesome, I will do the rest after supper!
hmmm, got it, lol
done, running 2.2.... so tomorrow at work, i guess I will see if I have any issues....
now that this is done, can I re install that sense ui? What should I do or try now that I have done those 2 tutorials? thx
first off there are no 2.2 froyo/sense roms available as of yet.. so if you want to use a desire rom youre more than likely going to want to downgrade to the latest 2.1 radio that works well with your carrier/area, as froyo has its own radio and needs it to run properly.. once you downgrade.. nandroid>wipe>flash
yea, I did not know it would put me back to 2.1, lol.... went back and then back again to 2.2, lol... sense sure looked good!
Any ideas, suggestions, tips for 2.2? I installed flash! thx
How stable is your phone with the Froyo radio? Any unexplained reboots yet?
well it was quite late by the time I did it, I was playing with it, went to a few flash websites.... and no reboots or shutdowns, I also just woke up.... so I will know today after a full day work/playing, thx
one of the bugs is my camera does not work for video... so I have to update the radio, any suggestions! thx
Nope thats pretty much what you need to do is update the radio
thanks, but I am not gonna lie... still not sure which are radios, roms, senses, lol.... could you point me to the one I need.... or does it matter? thx, I just do not want to brick, obviously!
Also, I did not do this step.... is this what I need to do, or is it unrelated?
11) You should still have root, but if you want BusyBox (or lost root somehow), Cyanogen has done it again! Go back into Recovery and flash froyo-rooter-signed.zip. Then Titanium Backup will work once again.
does not sound like something I need or use, so I did not do it....
as far as stability... my 3g signal looked low all day... but I never had a dropped call, instability or any reboots/crashes.... all is well! thx
go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6734240&postcount=9532
havent had problems with the older one, but am going to try the new one just to see.
anyone around?
I tried these 3 things
Step_One_Froyo_Radio_Update.zip
step-two-RoDrIgUeZsTyLe-FroYo-MCR-R16-MOD-V1.8-FIX.zip
and then i ran
2.6.34_AVS-925mV_CFS_1113Mhz_061210.zip
anytime I run setcpu, I get this error
the application process com.mhuang.overclocking has stopped unexpectedly, please try again?
"uninstalled and reinstalled, worked. thx"

[Q] New to all of this

Let me say I had an EVO and used Unrevoked to root it and all I did was use that for wifi.
So now I have an unrooted Nexus. I am in a position that I want some of the custom things but have not rooted and a lot of this technical stuff floors me at this point and I do not want to brick my phone.
Can anyone tell me what it means to install via recovery, how to do a backup and what deoxxed (I know it is spelled wrong) is?
I want to put a custom home screen, I like the blue market I see and I like the clear MMS that is posted, but the install instructions just confuses me.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really am wanting to customize my Nexus 4G.

Check out the One Click Root thread in the Nexus S 4G Development section. See if that helps a little more. Your probably going to get flamed for posting this in this section, but oh well. Read that and try to get rooted first. Then if you need more help after that feel free to shoot me a PM and ill try to help you more. Read different threads as well, just search XDA for root NS4G. Hit me up if you need some help with anything.

I went through the exact same thing. If you start reading more threads it will start coming to you. When you root, you need the drivers (adb and fastboot) installed on your computer, they come with either pdanet or sdk which you can find the download links to with a quick search of the forums. Find the stickied section of NS4G dev section and those should have all the files you need. Cwm is Clockwork Mod Recovery. It is flashed after unlocking the bootloader using a command prompt. After rooting and flashing cwm, you boot into recovery(cwm) and follow the instructions from a root guide to flash your new rom. I think BuglessPete has a great tutorial on root and flashing a rom. Find that and you're good to go. Don't get discouraged. It is NOT as hard or complicated as it seems. You will be surprised at how simple these guys have made it for us newcomers. Make sure you give them a thanks.

So it was a day from you know what. I got rooted first this morning, I did the first update that I wanted which was the blue market, epic fail. I spent the whole day trying to get my market to work again, no go. I had not backed up (stupid me) and when put that new market in it was a FC galore. I tried downloading other market apk's including the market that is due to be released and none would install. I ended up flashing the phone with Oxygen ROM. Now I have to get the phone back to the way I like it, lots of apps to download (not sure why they did not restore since I am set to back up/restore from google servers) and go from there.
I will be doing more I am sure, lots of reading to do. Thanks to the two of you.

[Q] Stuck At HTC Logo

I am running the latest herodeck rom and was wanting to try a few of the new roms out, TeamHeroC-2.3.5-01SEP-V2.zip and the newest WildHeroC rom. I do a wipe and load the roms and I never get past the HTC logo. I have waited for about 8 minutes and nothing, still stuck at the logo screen. Both roms do the same thing. Luckily I did a nandroid and was able to restore back to Herodeck. I will appreciate any help or ideas. And I am using Darch's recovery.
Hi,
U need to read the opening posts of each ROMs discussion. They each have their own ways to prepare for the ROM.
But most of them you'll need to wipe more than just factory reset.
So all I can say is take the time to read at least the first few pages of each ROM.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I always wipe everything before flashing a rom or doing a restore so I don't think that is it and I always read the post so that's probably not the problem either. But hey thanks

Dont hate me... noob rom help

I have a verizon wireless droid 3..
I think the verizon part matters right? lol anyways, i just rooted m phone tonight and ive downloaded root explorer, root uninstaller, rom manager, and ti backup. id really like to "flash"(is that proper?) a new rom onto my phone. I understand one of the major options is steeldroid. /what else do i need to download to my pohne to get this rom? Im a complete noob when it comes to android. Period. I came from the sheltered world of blackberries.
I read a thread on another site which was a walkthrough and gave links, but the bootstrap link asks me question i dont have answers to. Help? :/ i download stuff to my computer?
a lot of explanations and links are in the 1st post from this link

bootloader? Is our bootloader unlocked?? we have a hijack bootstrap and 2nd-init but yes I would suggest grabbing hashcodes modified version of koush's clockworkmod and installing flashing from there.
how do i openn the .rar file that rsdlite is in?
Do i have to do the beginning steps if my phone is already rooted?
I know u just wanna flash it, but u should def do some reading. Using rsd u can really mess ur phone up! Make sure ur settings/about/system are 5.6.890 and install clockwork first. Then boot into clockwork and u can flash. Only use rsd if ur bricked and its last resort!
Edit: after re-reading, I highly suggest u read the original posts in the rom u want to flash. Make sure its in the droid 3 forum. No offense, but if ur unfamiliar with rar and zip, this may b a little too much

i agree w/ ya......with some roms they suggest using safestrap instead of just koushs modded bootstrap which may/may-not be the same as safestrap and if you use the wrong thing, you may chance bootlooping your phone or worse, so yeah......if he gave specific instructions, your best bet is to follow those for simplicity so that if you have issues you can just confirm using all the steps he listed unless you're an advanced modder and you know what you're doing
and to extract rar files, http://www.rarlab.com is the app you need
thanks for the help guys seriously.
i AM on 5.6.890, and im very familiar with .zip files just not .rar. didnt realize you had to use an outside program to open .rar
isnt clockworkmod the rom manager i downloaded?
i guess im looking for a "How to for dummies" of sorts. i know that i will be able to do this, i just want to do it right. Id hate to brick a phone I just got.
Clockwork is different from rom manager. I think steel droid just released a version u can use with safestrap, but read up on the safestrap and SD threads first! I jacked around with safestrap and bootlooped and rsd'd and bootlooped and now im back. Once u install clockwork mod, create a backup! Then, put the rom on ur sd card and select install zip from sd card. Don't use rsd unless ur really really messed up
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Okay so I download clockwork and safestrap(install to phone or computer? Links?) And after I do that create a backup, install the new ROM on my sd and open clockwork. And select install from sd...?
Droooooiiid.. the sound forever in our hearts and nightmares <3
Alright, call me mean, but if u can't figure out these next instructions, I can't help u. What's going to happen is ull screw up and then fret because u don't know how to rsd. Its very easy to bootloop!
search the forum for hashcodes tweaked bootstrapper (which is clockwork). I would stay away from the safestrap if I were u. U download this to ur phone, and install it like an .exe. once installed, hit bootstrap recovery, then when u hit reboot recovery, it will reboot into clockwork. Once in clockwork select backup and it will make a nandroid (exact copy). After that u can choose to install the roms zip from sd card. Once its finished, I highly suggest u use the wipe data/cache in clockwork. That will reset all ur data and become a new-out-of-box phone. If u bootloop, then u use rsd.
Be aware that u can brick ur phone. I've saw a few with low batteries get stuck! We all try to help here, but I think the best for u is to read instead of doing. We will try to help if u bootloop, but sometimes there is no fixing.

yeah, safestrap isn't compatable w/ all roms at the moment, and like mrjudy said, low battery can affect rom flashing...suggested is >75% battery life
To add to MrJudylicious post...
I came from a blackberry too, before I got my first Android 2 years ago.
Here's what you should do. First, Familiarize yourself with the Android ecosystem. Flashing ROMs on a brand new phone is tempting, but at the same time, you have no mental reference of how Android was before you flashed that ROM, so it's hard for you to compare and see what's best for you, and what's not. What new feature you was added, what has been improved over your last ROM, etc...
I used Android for 6 months before rooting for the first time, just to give myself some time to learn what's nice about it, and also what I would like for it to achieve, that it can't do without root.
I flashed my first ROM 1 year after that, and this was a great time. Why ? Because I saw how cool things became, I was able to compare the ROM with my "stock android" experience.
I read all your posts in this thread, and you make me feel like you might not be ready to jump in feet first in this. All the ROMS for the Droid3 are in very early stage of development and, if I would be you, would wait for them to become more stable and reliable. I'm not saying that they should not be used at all, just saying that it might not be the best idea for you yo do this RIGHT NOW.
Please do yourself a favor, and keep your phone as it is right now. Root is OK, but be careful.

What new feature you was added, what has been improved over your last ROM, etc...

perfection if i've ever seen it i was in a similar situation, i had a rooted phone and there were next to no roms for the first android phone i got, so when i got my incredible 2 the first thing i did was root it since it was essentially the same exact FW and layout, and i've been mod-happy ever since lol
thanks guys, you've been a massive help forreal. Maybe an idea for you guys to make the learning process better for n00bs such as myself, is to make a thread and discuss some of the terms, acronyms, file names exes apks bak and such. And sticky that thread so when you do your best to try and help someone they can better understand you guys.
Just an idea though. I think ill just wait to flash ROMs and whatnot.
Droooooiiid.. the sound forever in our hearts and nightmares <3
Sorry I used the wrong term. I meant bootstrap not bootloader.
